My personal experiences going there twice are really amazing. The first time was with my School Watchdog (Press Club) in 2007, and second time was with my students from Salem Oxford Int'l School. The third would be with my wife and children, this year or early next. There is a Five Star Hotel at the site. Well organised with other side attractions. You pay little token to get in there to see the Warm and Cool Water coming from the same ground, and they are as well separated down to where they flow outside the site. Its use have Lion and other animals but since the lion killed one of the Zoo officials they have stopped keeping animals. The Government has done well to make the place quite attractive for Tourist. |

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Kwara State on Friday revealed why the card readers malfunctioned in the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections across the country. Punch reports that the electoral commission in a memo sent to the supervisory and presiding polling officers by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Emmanuel Onucheyo, identified non-removal of (nylon) films on the finger capture region of card readers as one of the causes of the problems experienced with the device in the March 28 polls. The electoral umpire also identified the non-removal of the card reader’s battery as part of the problem, explaining that for the device to work properly, it required that it must be reconfigured before it could be used. Onucheyo, therefore gave directives to all the electoral officers to prevent a repeat of the aforementioned challenges. “Ensure the card readers are properly charged before handing them to supervisory/presiding officers. Ensure that the batteries are not removed for any reason whatsoever. If in any case, the batteries are removed, contact the administrators for reconfiguration. Ensure all the nylon film, covering the finger capture area, is removed before use. The SPOs should be re-educated about the card readers and their importance,” the memo read. Meanwhile, the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Ayanda Jacob, assured that the earlier technical hitch could be avoided if the electoral officers adhere to the directives given them. “The essence of passing the memo is to avoid the challenges we faced in the last elections. It is faster for card readers to identify registered voters if the nylon on the finger capture area is removed. Some presiding officers did not do so. Some officers also removed the devices’ batteries and by so doing, they stopped working properly until they were reconfigured. Generators have been provided to fully charge the batteries and each battery lasts for about 12 hours,” he said. Jacob also used the medium to announce that both sensitive and non- sensitive election materials have been moved to the 16 local government areas of the state in readiness for tomorrow’s polls. The commission’s spokesman said INEC had made proper arrangements to ensure that the Saturday’s election was more effective than the previous one. During the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections, there were several cases of malfunctioning of card readers as it fails to read voters finger prints. The case was a bit worse in the south- south geopolitical zone where President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife could not be accredited on time in a polling unit at his home town in Otuoke, Ogbia local government area of Bayelsa State. Meanwhile, the INEC in Plateau state has issued a stern warning to anyone attempting to be around polling units during tomorrow’s elections without Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs). |

First and foremost, what do I mean by 21st century Nigeria? The word 21st century is now ubiquitous and superfluous in any political and economic dialogue but its significance have not diminished nor become pliable. 21st century has been called the century of possibilities and at one point it has been called the African century. The 21st century is anticipated to be a century that Africa will put her house in order and take her place under the sun. Nigeria being the largest economy and most populous in Africa is expected to be in the vanguard. The antecedent century was marked with African humiliation of conquest by European invaders, swiveled around slavery and colonialism. Therefore with the emerging 21st century, Africans in general and Nigeria in particular must assert themselves with innovative breakthroughs and scientific ideas in high technology, modern education and high standard of living to achieve sustainable freedom and true independent. All things being equal, it is necessary, if not indispensable that the 21st century Nigeria must be a century of possibilities and political rebirth consolidated with enlightenment and optimum economic development. Buhari and Jonathan So, whatever happens in Nigeria politically could determine the sustainability of the country’s progress in 21st century, Nigeria is gearing and getting ready for an important 2015 election in February. The two rivalry parties, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its major opposition, All Progressives Congress (APC) have finally produced their presidential candidates. The incumbent Nigerian President Jonathan of PDP will be challenged by retired General Buhari of APC. This is a serious election due to the circumstances that Nigeria found herself. Nigeria has surprise both her friends and foes on her economic and political sustainability especially on her continue existence as a corporate entity. Contrary to the proposition forwarded and propounded by naysayers Nigeria must continue to exist as a united country beyond their 2015 prediction of disillusion and meltdown. That is where the question of leadership comes in; Nigeria needs an intelligent, prudent, reliable, patriot, peaceful and unity conscious leader. President Jonathan or General Buhari: who is the best candidate suited to be called the leader of 21st century Nigeria and who can lead Nigeria to the promise land. As I have aforementioned Nigeria is in a unique position. Economically speaking and despite the falling oil price, Nigeria has achieved an affirmative and quantifiable macroeconomics stability. Nigeria at the moment is the largest economy in Africa, no matter how you look at it, it is a great achievement. The economy is projected to grow at above 5 percent and inflation rate is below 9 percent and attraction of foreign investments continues. Although, the nosedive of oil price is nibbling on the strength and value of naira due to overvalue US dollar and fervent aggressive currency speculators, the streams of foreign investments have not waned. Nigeria continues to have its low debt ratios which make it attractive to investors and inducement to leverage capital. On the other side, Nigeria has some traceable and intractable problems with poverty and unemployment. The huge issue of Boko Haram and its destructive tendencies are threat to political stability especially in the north east of Nigeria in particular and the entire northern Nigeria in general. The triumph over corruption must be comprehensive and long term. The defeat of corruption becomes sustainable when the political and social infrastructures are set up and effectively managed. The civic institutions including the security apparatus, courts and media must be independent and incorruptible. The citizens must be empowered to participate in creating a corrupt free society. The clergy, schools and moral leaders must be employed in the eradicating corruption. Our children and next generation of Nigerian leaders must be taught in schools on how corruption annihilates and minimize the wealth and wellbeing of a nation. Nigeria needs a leader that understands and formulates economic policy that can be effectively communicate to investors and can be able to speak the language of economics to capitalists and potential investors. Nigeria needs a leader of purpose that can unite the country’s diverse population for the greater good of our country. Nigeria needs a visionary leader that comprehends how the 21st century world works and understands that a local action and decision have an international implication. |

As against the news that rocked the media few days back, immediate former Head Coach of the Super Eagles, Mr. Stephen Keshi, has said he was not sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation. Keshi who spoke with newsmen while at the Kwara State stadium yesterday during the final of the 28th edition of the All Financial Institutions Football competition explained that his contract with the NFF ended with the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, making it inappropriate for anyone to say he was sacked. Keshi being an optimistic leader made it known that the Super Eagles could still qualify for the African Cup of Nations if the team really work hard at it. According to Punch, he said: “I was never sacked by the NFF. It’s if you have an existing contract that you would be sacked. Super Eagles can still qualify for the 2015 AFCON. They have the chance, because the group is still open. They only need to work harder. “We need a lot of encouragement from Nigerians for the players to go ahead and qualify. I think we can qualify for the 2015 AFCON,” he said. Nigeria is currently occupying the third position of Group A with four points, trailing Congo with seven points and South Africa leading the group with eight points while Sudan places last with three points. |
Several weeks after the collapse of a guest house in The Synagogue Church Of All Nations, more shocking stories are still unveiling. The latest report divulged by the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and translated by WhatDoesItMean circulating in the Kremlin on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, has it that the administration of the American President Barack Obama was the brain behind the terrible incident that occurred on Friday, September 12, 2014. It was revealed that the attack on the Synagogue Church Of All Nations guest house was carried out with the dreaded “Jericho Weapon” leaving hundreds of people dead. The report stated that Nigerian authorities have become “greatly alarmed” over the unprecedented rise of the Ebola virus in West African and have “strongly advised” all Christian churches to stop their communion rites over fears this practice will spread the disease. The SCOAN, however, not only refused to stop their communion rites but also began operations to help the victims of Ebola in other neighboring countries, which the joint US-Nigerian Army Special Operations Command (NASOC) saw as a “national security threat”. However, due to the SCOAN’s non-compliance with the directives of the government officials on Ebola, the Russian military intelligence analysts discovered a “highly secretly armed” US Navy Lockheed C-130 Hercules airplane Fleet Logistics Support Squadron SIX TWO (VR-62), also known as the “Nomads” as it left a Naval Air Station Jacksonville in Florida and landed at the US Naval Expeditionary Base Camp Lemonnier at Djibouti’s Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport, which is the primary base of operations for the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) in the Horn of Africa. The report further disclosed that the in the early hours of Friday, September 12, 2014, the US Navy C-130 left Lemonnier and flew to Lagos, Nigeria where from 11:30-11:54 (Central European Time Zone (UTC+01:00) it hovered above the building which later collapsed at about12:44 in what was said to be an “implosion-type”. |

Nearly seven months after the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment stampede which killed 20 applicants and injured hundred others, the Federal Government is yet to fulfill its promise of automatic jobs to the families of the deceased. The recruitment exercise held on March 15, across the various centres in the country was marred by poor crowd control and organization. |
