Culture / Thunder Stroke: Killed Nursing Mother by OJtOp2(m): 12:51pm On Jul 19, 2015
Saturday evening, It was like a normal rain and thunder storms, but unknown to people of Mopo Isanlu in Kogi State that havoc has occurred to a women who backed her baby to buy 'eko'. on her way home thunder stroke her dead but safely kept the child's life unhurt.
As at 10am on Sunday her body was still lieing on the ground, with fear of reprisal attack if necessary appeasing were not done.
Are these things still happening everywhere?

Religion / 10 Reasons Why The Church Should Not Abandon Politics by OJtOp2(m): 11:04pm On Jul 11, 2015
Recent events have raised the issue, Should the
pulpit always avoid politics? It depends on what
we mean by "politics;" it demeans the pulpit to
use it for partisan politics. But here are ten
reasons why I don't think politics and religion
should (or even can) be completely separate:

1) The Word of God has something to say about
all of life, beyond just the spiritual.
My long-time pastor, Dr. D. James Kennedy, once
noted that the Church of Jesus Christ has always
been opposed to abortion---from the very
beginning. It still is.
In the last generation, abortion has become a
"political" issue. Does that mean, asked Dr.
Kennedy, we should now ignore it in the pulpit?
No, because the Bible is pro-life.

2) The Bible itself addresses the issue of
governing in different texts.
There are biblical books dealing with political
rulers---1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, Judges.
In Genesis and in Daniel, we see godly men
serving well in pagan courts, for the good of all.
In Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2, we hear that God
has established the civil magistrate, and we are
to obey the government. In Exodus, we see Moses
rebuking Pharaoh for mistreating the Hebrews.

3) The Scriptures also teach that on occasion,
there may be a need for civil disobedience.
When the apostles were commanded to no longer
preach the gospel, Peter said that we must obey
God rather than man. If there is an either/or, then
civil disobedience can be the right path. Many
early Christians died for Christ rather than
worship the emperor, clearly a false god.

4) Jesus said, "Render to Caesar the things that
are Caesar's, and to God the things that are
God's."
Nature abhors a vacuum. Someone will be
involved in politics. Why should we abandon our
role as citizens? According to Jesus, we have a
positive duty to render certain obligation to the
state.

5) When the Church does not speak out, evil can
fill that void.
Silence in the face of evil can signal assent. We
hold up those Christians who went against Hitler
and the Nazis as heroes---not the millions who
acquiesced to them.

5) When the Church does not speak out, evil can
fill that void.
Silence in the face of evil can signal assent. We
hold up those Christians who went against Hitler
and the Nazis as heroes---not the millions who
acquiesced to them

6) The Church is called to be salt and light. Salt
preserves and prevents decay.
Christians in society should help prevent
corruption. As goes the pulpit, so goes the nation.

7) We pray, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven."
That doesn't mean we should try and force the
kingdom of God by use of the sword. When
"Christians" did that in times past, we are still
apologizing for it, as in the Crusades, the
Inquisition, the Salem Witchcraft trials. But it
does mean that Christians can apply biblical
principles to government that result in good for
all of us. And to be sure, someone's morality is
always being legislated. It is not a question of
"if," but of "what" and of "whose."

cool Christians bless everybody when we properly
apply our faith to politics.
Our Constitution was an outgrowth of the biblical
concept of covenant. University of Houston
Professor Dr. Donald S. Lutz, author of The
Origins of American Constitutionalism , said that
Americans "invented modern Constitutionalism
and bequeathed it to the world." And where did
we get it? Says Lutz: "The American
constitutional tradition derives in much of its form
and content from the Judeo-Christian tradition as
interpreted by the radical Protestant sects to
which belonged so many of the original European
settlers in British North America."

9) Politics may be the calling of some in the
congregation. Therefore, ministers should
encourage political involvement that is motivated
by the desire to serve.
When the Member of Parliament William
Wilberforce was converted in the 1780s, he
sought counsel from Rev. John Newton, an ex-
slave-trader. Should he leave politics and pursue
the ministry? Newton advised him to stay
because maybe God could use him where he was.
Wilberforce's crusade to free the slaves in the
British Empire took him 50 years and was a direct
outgrowth of his faith in Christ. I shudder to think
if one of today's "no politics" ministers had
counseled the young reborn Wilberforce. We might
still have legal slavery in the Western world.

10) Religion and morality are "indispensable
supports to our political prosperity."
So said Washington in his Farewell Address. John
Adams said, "Our Constitution was made only for
a moral and religious people. It is wholly
inadequate to the government of any other." This
was in a day when about 99% of the Americans
were professing Christians.

Politics / I Was Betrayed By Tinubu And Buhari - Ex-gov Amechi by OJtOp2(m): 11:31pm On Jul 07, 2015
“Let it be known, that I didn’t just join the APC, I was wooed by the legacy parties and four other PDP governors then. Naturally in every bargain, interests must be spelt out. Of course they did promise me the Vice Presidential ticket in the forth coming election with a condition to sell the party and make President Jonathan unpopular. The initial arrangement was to pair me with Hon. Tambuwal (Speaker of House of Representatives) .

But when other entrants like Atiku and others entered the party, everything changed. It was Gov. Nyako that opened up to me on the recent changes, and pleaded with me to take the position of the National chairman of party, that it will be zoned to the South-South. And I grudgingly accepted. Now, in every political convention, consensus building is needed to harmonize all interests.

So I initiated a platform for the 16 APC governors to talk in Port-Harcourt last week. And in that meeting, the 13 governors and their deputies that were in attendance reassured me that I will be given the national chairmanship slot. But when I asked Gov. Adams to ask Chief Ikimi and John Oyegun to step down for my candidate, Adam’s quietly told me “My brother, I know the bad name they have called you in the South-South and Rivers in particular. Again, I sympathize with you because I know how much you have put-in in APC, this Yoruba and Hausa people can’t be trusted, they said you couldn’t build the APC in Rivers State and that only 95,633 out of the 1.3 million membership you claimed have passport photographs. That everything was doctored by you”.

I find it very disappointing, that we no longer have men of trust, and integrity. Men whose words should be their bond in politics. So last night, I made my position clear, that if the other candidates didn’t step down for Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, then there was no point picking the expression of interest form. I feel deeply betrayed”

Politics / President Muhammad Buhari: No More Excuses by OJtOp2(m): 7:02pm On Jun 27, 2015
Open Letter to President Muhammadu Buhari
Greetings Mr. President,
Since you resumed office as President of Nigeria, I
have read and listened to many scaring
utterances from your aides, political party and
most recently from you.
Of late, it is all about that you meeting an empty
treasury, No money, Jonathan did this, Jonathan
did that, be patient with me, no this, no that, bla
bla bla bla.
Mr. President I want to remind that while you
were campaigning, I listened to you on the TV,
you said that Nigeria was broke, that Jonathan is
destroying Nigeria and you want to rescue it. I
read you branding our country, Nigeria as a failed
state. Right?
So now, that you have finally taken over, why are
you complaining that Nigeria is broke, a situation
you were much aware even before you started
your campaign?
You knew that Nigeria was broke before making
over 48 promises to Nigerians, right?
So Mr President, I just want to remind you…as
below…
You promised Nigeria CHANGE, you did not
promise excuses…
You promised the little children one meal per day,
you did not promise them excuses…what a shame
You promised unemployed Youths N5,000 every
month, you did not promise them excuses.
Katsina Women queued up early this week for
their payment and went home disappointed.
You promised Youth corp members one year
salary after service, you did not promise excuses…
You promised to equate N1.00 to $1.00, not
excuses. [Naira was 182 to a Dollar on 29 May,
2015, today it is 224 to a Dollar].
You promised to create three million Jobs per
year, not excuses
You promised to create and transmit 20,000 MW
of electricity, not excuses.
You Promised to build 60,000 Houses in a year,
not excuse.
You promised us Chinese type, Rocket speed train
in a year in office, not excuse.
You promised permanent peace in the Niger Delta,
not excuses.
You promised to ban all government officials from
seeking medical care abroad, not excuses.
You promised to Balance our Budget in your first
year in office, not patience.
You promised to crushed Boko Haram within a
week in office, not calling them your disgruntled
brothers.
You promised to kill Corruption, but you have
freed indicted APC leaders and $600,000,000
squandered from our reserve in less than a week.
You promised to stop ostentatious lifestyle of our
Politicians, but one of your official car is valued
over N500,000,000.
The list is long… if you have forgotten them,
please ask Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu to
Google them out for you Sir. These days
Mr.President, you can find everything you said
just by googling them and let me remind you Mr
president, this stealing started from the North,
then it extended to South-West before reaching
the South-South, we must fight corruption from
its first source and end it at its last bus stop
which Mr President claim is South-South.
Mr. President, Nigeria want to see you talk about
achieving this promises not excuses.
We sincerely Trust your ability to achieve all these
as promised and wish you success, Good health,
Extra energy and better focus.
From a concerned Nigerian.
Copied To Nigerians, home and Abroad.

Politics / How Bola Tinubu Came About The Title ‘jagaban’ by OJtOp2(m): 10:30pm On Jun 20, 2015
Dantoro said that he had a common interest
with the national leader of the All Progressives

truth.
His words: “I knew Bola Ahmed Tinubu when
we were at the National Assembly as

why can’t I use my position to make him what

Jagaban is a title, which has gained
prominence, particularly among different
followers and political allies. But not many are
aware that the chieftaincy title was bestowed
on the former senator by His Royal Highness,
Alhaji Haliru Dantoro III, the Emir of Borgu

Politics / Before Our Lawmakers Auction Us by OJtOp2(m): 11:41am On Jun 18, 2015
The widespread anger which greeted the
reported outrageous allocations for wardrobe
allowances for members of the National
Assembly earlier this week is quite
understandable, and obviously inevitable. From
what we heard, as from next week, every
member of the House of Representatives, some
of who have no idea what they will be doing and
will not recover from that ignorance anytime
during their four-year term, will have the sum of
N1.4m to expend on clothes and accessories
with which they will dazzle the taxpayers who
pay them monthly. His more fortunate and
privileged counterpart in the Senate will have a
more handsome sum of 1.7m in the same 30-
day period to maintain his wardrobe!
That sum, which does not include an assortment
of other allowances, will pay the minimum wage
of 81 other Nigerians. Only that unlike the
legislator who sits three times in a week but
hides under all sorts of committee engagements
to convince us that he is busy, these 81 people
work very hard, five days of the week just to
fend for themselves and their families and pay
the salaries of men and women who were sent
to Abuja, Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, to
represent the people’s interest.
But it gets more pathetic. While millions of
people who earn a minimum wage of N18,
000(far less than $100) and hundreds of
thousands of others who retired after serving the
nation for an average of 35 years are being owed
salaries and pensions for periods ranging from
between five and 10 months, the princes and
princesses that we just elected to talk, or even
fight and throw chairs in the chambers for us,
must get their indulgences before the legislative
houses resume.
Nothing depicts the lopsidedness of the Nigerian
situation as aptly as this: He who is called to
serve is now being serviced. Members of the
political class in Nigeria feed so fat on the larger
percentage of the people that they have become
indolent and uncaring. This is more so for the
legislature which fails to be the true
representatives of the people by pandering to
filthy lucre or the dictates of a patron.
Now and again in this column, I have registered
my disappointment with the National Assembly,
obviously, the largest assemblage of overpaid
and underperforming men and women anywhere
in the world. In a recent piece entitled, “The
failure staring APC in the face,” I ventilated the
opinion that the National Assembly is the most
important arm of government and that a lot of
the inefficiencies including corruption that we see
in the polity result from the inaction or
collaboration of the legislature.
But the National Assembly apparently has the
idea that it is best to use its powers to milk
Nigeria dry without much consideration for the
fact that well over 100 million Nigerians are
unable to afford more than one meal in a day.
Nigerian are therefore justifiably horrified and
outraged by the news of the reckless national
expenditure on the humongous salaries and
allowances of the members of the National
Assembly.
An investigative report in Tuesday’s edition of
The PUNCH indicated that aside from the
speculated wardrobe allowances (which was not
part of the paper’s investigation), each
representative will get another N14.5m in lieu of
accommodation, vehicle and furniture while each
senator is entitled to the sum of N16.5m. All of
this, in my opinion, amounts to an assault
catalysts for the widespread exclamation of
poverty and lack of opportunity in the land.
While civil servants are unpaid with all its
attendant chain effects on people in many of our
states, it is scandalous that the perks of office of
one legislator are huge enough to feed a small
village when all are added together.
This will also account for the desperation with
which people gun for political offices in Nigeria.
Given the considerable remuneration of political
office holders, a number of our people now
consider politics as a profession and are willing
to do anything to attain such ambitions.
We will however miss this point to imagine that
this extravagance is limited to the National
Assembly. The truth is that other categories of
public office holders earn enough to compete
with entrepreneurs and investors except that the
former bring nothing to the table. This is evident
in the fact that the excuse of many governors for
owing several months of salary arrears to civil
servants and gratuities to pensioners is the drop
in federal allocation. Sixteen years after return to
civil rule, a majority of our states have no
creative ideas on how to reposition their
economies from their rent-seeking nature to a
productive one. Yet, the drop in federal allocation
does not stop them from flying private jets and
playing Santa Claus all year round.
Having said all of this however, one should
borrow from the Yoruba expression that even
when one is crying, one should see clearly. I
should clarify that in spite of the justification of
the disgust of Nigerians at the earnings of
legislators, which they have hidden from public
glare over the years, politicians do not fix their
salaries and allowances.
The responsibility for this is given to the Revenue
Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission
which was created by paragraph 32 of Part I of
the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of
the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Sections 84 and
125 of the constitution specifically empower the
RMAFC to determine the remuneration of political
office holders emphasising that neither the
National Assembly nor the state Houses of
Assembly can go beyond what the commission
recommends.
While venting our anger on politicians, we will
also need to request that the RMAFC presents to
Nigerians the parameters it uses in prescribing
these humongous allowances especially at this
very austere period when the country is
manifestly poor, broke and almost bankrupt.
When the revenue has continued to dwindle as a
result of the single product economy that we
have and when hopes for an improvement seem
far away. This is not to talk about the $60bn
local and external debts and the N2.4trn with
which we have serviced those debts in the past
four years. How does this commission justify this
dangerous and unsustainable benevolence in the
face of the lack that the majority faces?
President Muhammadu Buhari who, along with
the All Progressives Congress (whose members
have also benefited from this criminal wage for
years) promised that things would change in
Nigeria must move fast to end this rape of the
people and restore sanity to the country before it
explodes. No serious nation, intent on
sustainable development, spends the bulk of its
public finances to maintain the prodigious taste
of the upper echelons in government.
Buhari’s anti- corruption and frugal mantra will
remain mere ideological expressions without
blocking all the leakages which deplete our
resources and make politics look like the only
business for which living could be pleasant in
Nigeria.

Politics / I Will Pay Osun Workers Before 30 June - Aregbesola by OJtOp2(m): 11:04pm On Jun 15, 2015
Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola,
has promised to pay workers in the state their
salaries before the end of this month.
The governor made the promise in a statement
issued in Osogbo on Sunday by his media aide,
Mr. Semiu Okanlawon.
Most workers are being owed seven months’
salaries.
But the statement was silent on whether the
governor would pay the backlog or he would pay
part of the salaries.
The statement read in part, “Before the end of
June, workers would be paid their salaries.”
The governor stated that he had a great dream
for the state and that was why he was in a hurry
to begin many programmes which had earned
him applause even outside the country.
He added, “The dream has not gone awry and it
is a clear vision that Osun must be on its feet,
self-reliant and be a reference point in Nigeria.
The race to ensure development within the first
term of Aregbesola was informed by the fear of
what is happening now.
“Aregbesola wanted an Osun State that is self-
reliant. That Osun State, almost two decades
after its creation, could not boast of tax-paying
companies speak volume about the magnitude of
the works that awaited the Aregbesola
administration.
“But he did not shy away from this task of
industrialisation. Within his first term, his
government had caused investors to bring up
companies, such as the Omoluabi Garment
Factory, Osogbo and Adulawo/RLG Technology
Company in Ilesa.
“Just last month, a leading telephone line
company, Airtel, came to establish partnership
with the Adulawo/RLG Company. These are
aside the various agro-allied companies which
have benefited from the growth schemes of the
Aregbesola administration throughout the state.
“The government has also commenced
aggressive drive for the development of the solid
mineral sector with the signing of a
Memorandum of Understanding with an
Australian mining firm, Andalusia Mining
Industry.
“It was in the same vein that the idea of an
airport for aircraft maintenance was conceived.
“Only a lazy administration would accept the tag
of Osun State as a ‘civil servant’ state as
excuse for not developing initiatives for
industrialisation.
“To accept that our state must continue to
survive on the meagre inflow through what goes
to the civil servants alone is to accept that we
would continue to depend on external forces for
our survival.”

Romance / One Phone Call, Two Listeners: Jealous Lovers’ New Craze For Phone Hacking by OJtOp2(m): 4:07pm On Jun 06, 2015
Thirty-one-year-old Juliet Arinze has
noticed an inexplicable coldness from
her husband, Victor, for the last two
months and made attempts to find out
what the trouble was but all she has
got is “nothing.”
Victor, who works with an oil servicing
company in Port Harcourt, Rivers State,
is always away from home.
“The two weeks on, two weeks off
rotational shift system they do is not
really the problem. The problem is that
lately, anytime he comes home, he is
distant,” Juliet told our correspondent.
“Money keeps coming, but it is like my
husband is slipping away from my
hands everyday and I don’t know
why.”
But Juliet said she did not fold her
arms. She resorted to investigating the
activities of her husband through his
cell phone anytime he was at home.
Her findings further confirmed her
greatest fear.
She said, “There is no doubt my
husband is having an affair. The
problem is that the last message I read
on his phone shows the lady already
has a baby for him.
“He doesn’t even bother deleting her
messages anymore! In the exchanges
they had, he was asking about how a
baby was doing and the woman
replied ‘we both miss you.’ My
husband has continued to tell me that
there is no problem so, I don’t want to
push him away by accusing him
without evidence.”
Juliet and Victor got married in 2008
and have three children. They have
both been given pseudo names in this
report.
Juliet, who volunteered to tell her story
on the condition that her name and
that of her husband be concealed,
contacted our correspondent later and
confirmed that indeed, her husband
had a love-child.
How did she do it?
From a booklet of phone codes which
she bought in traffic in Port Harcourt,
she learnt she could listen to phone
calls made on her husband’s phone.
She could not resist the temptation.
“From the booklet, I learnt I could
monitor his calls through call divert but
there is no way he won’t know. A
friend later introduced me to an IT
expert who installed something on my
phone.
“Now, anytime his phone rings, mine
vibrates and I monitor his calls. I nearly
died when I learnt from his calls that
he already had a six-month-old baby
with this lady in question.”
Juliet said she had decided to take her
findings to her pastor to resolve the
issue.
Technology has advanced and while
hackers continue to infiltrate systems
across the world for money, lovers,
husbands and wives on the other
hand, are resorting to tapping and
hacking mobile devices to catch their
unfaithful partners.
Like Juliet, Mr. Peter Ekundayo, sought
help from technology when he
suspected that his wife, Funmi, was
having an affair.
After a short lesson from an IT expert,
Ekundayo activated a call monitoring
feature on his wife’s phone and caught
her red-handed while discussing a
rendezvous plan in a hotel with a
neighbour she was having an affair
with.
Ekundayo, who approached the
Customary Court, Ojo, Lagos, for the
dissolution of his marriage, told the
court that he wanted to take his own
life when he heard the discussion his
wife had with a neighbour she was
allegedly cavorting with at their Iyana-
Ishashi home in Ojo area of Lagos.
While on the trail of the so-called IT
experts who make a living out of
assisting people to monitor their
lovers, our correspondent visited the
Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, the
centre of all things technology in
Lagos, to find out that this trend has
become even more common than
many would think.
According to Chuks, one of the young
men our correspondent spoke with,
who combines phone repair with
selling cheat codes at the Computer
Village, it is an open secret people are
not likely to share willingly.
“If you come here and ask for a code
that would enable you to listen to
someone’s phone calls, it is either we
give you the code for call divert or
other codes that don’t work. But if you
can get someone to trust you and you
pay well, then it is no problem, we do
it a lot. We have IT boys whom we pay
here to do it for us since all of us do
not have the expertise,” he said.
Chuks volunteered to take our
correspondent to one of such experts,
a graduate of Economics who said he
only learnt about programming when
he could not get a job. Of course, he
refused to have his name published.
“Don’t be deceived by those who tell
you about one code or another that
could let one listen to another person’s
calls. Most of them are frauds, you
need experts like us to do the job. I
can do it for you if you have someone
you want to monitor,” he boasted. The
‘expert,’ however, did not forget to
chip in an advice, “My brother, it is not
worth it though. If a woman cheats on
you, cheat on her in return; tit for tat.”
Asked if he knew whether it was
possible to hack and read the text
messages on someone else’s phone,
he said he has not seen such thing
before.
For his services, this ‘expert’ said he
would charge N10,000. But Chuks later
told our correspondent he could get it
done at a cheaper rate.
‘More harm than good’
The issue of hacking of phone,
according to experts, is a symptom of
a larger problem – the breakdown of
the fabric of trust which is supposed to
hold together every form of
relationship, whether platonic or
romantic.
Three things are
responsible for this trend; lack of trust,
lack of openness and desperation.
When lack of trust builds up in a
relationship, at a certain stage, it leads
to desperation.
“There is more distrust than in the
past now, simply because technology
makes it so easy for people to keep
secrets. In the past, you could not
speak with a girl without her father
knowing. Now, you chat with her
through text messaging even beside
her father. But we cannot blame
technology because it is like a sword, it
can help and harm.
“I would not think twice about hacking
my husband’s phone if I strongly
suspect he is lying and cheating on me
in a way that could destroy our home,”
Opeyemi Aluko told our correspondent,
when asked if she would consider such
an action.
Even though Aluko explained that her
husband of four years does not cheat,
her opinion was that “you cannot put
anything past men. Men would always
be men.”
Thirty-two-year-old Seyi Adamolekun, a
laundromat operator, said she once
considered monitoring her husband’s
calls in their second year of marriage.
“I kept seeing different messages from
other women on his phone while he
assured me he had nothing to do with
them. We started having problems
when I complained to his parents and
they supported him, saying I was
making a mountain out of a molehill.
“I was desperate and needed evidence
to show that I was not just being
paranoid. But a friend advised against
it. Looking back now, I’m glad I did not
take that step. Maybe we won’t be
together today. We are fine now.”
A young man, Patrick Nelson explained
that even though he could monitor his
partner’s calls, he would not do it out
of jealousy.
“I am not married yet but I know I am
not a cheat. If it happens that I have a
strong suspicion that my partner is
cheating, I would monitor her calls just
to get evidence to chase her away.
“A cheating woman can poison you. I
would do it for my own safety, not
because of mere jealousy.”
Infidelity and ‘celeb’ marriages
Another marriage counsellor, Mrs. Sade
Toyin-Kehinde, told our correspondent
that trust is flying out of the window in
marriages in the society because
issues are handled in “wishy-washy
manner.”
Having expressed also that there is far
more mistrust in marriages nowadays
than in the past, Toyin-Kehinde said
secrets always destroy marriages and
relationships.
Accusation and counter-accusations of
infidelity by celebrity couples and
individuals, especially in the
entertainment industry in the last five
years, highlight the issue of mistrust
and accusations of infidelity which are
upending many marriages in the
country.
The reason for the short shelf-life of
celebrity marriages in Nigeria seems to
revolve around one single theme,
infidelity and mistrust.
Section 7 of the Cyber Crime Law
2013, states, “Any person, who
intentionally and without authorisation
or in excess of authority, intercepts by
technical means, transmissions of non-
public computer data, content data or
traffic data, including electromagnetic
emissions or signals from a computer,
computer system or network carrying
or emitting signals, to or from a
computer, computer system or
connected system or network; commits
an offence and liable on conviction to
imprisonment for a term of not less
than two years or to a fine of not less
than N5,000,000.00 or to both fine
and imprisonment.”
Culture / The Supreme Court Affirms Alhaji Ado Ibrahim As The Ohinoyi Of Ebira by OJtOp2(m): 7:47pm On Jun 05, 2015
The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed
Alhaji Ado Ibrahim as the Ohinoyi of
Ebiraland of Kogi State.
Ibrahim was appointed the paramount
ruler of Ebrialand by the then Military
Administrator of Kogi State, Col. Bzigu
Afakirya, on June 2, 1997, but a suit
challenging his appointment was
instituted before the Kogi State High
Court on March 6, 1998.
Ibrahim appealed to the Supreme
Court after he was ordered to be
deposed by the concurrent judgments
of both the Kogi State High Court
where the matter started and
subsequently the Jos Division of the
Court of Appeal.
But the Justice Ibrahim Muhammad-led
five man panel of the Supreme Court
on Friday struck out the suit on the
grounds that the Kogi State High Court
lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the
suit because it (the suit) was caught
by “statute of limitation.”
Justice John Okoro who delivered the
lead judgment of the apex court held
that the Kogi State High Court lacked
jurisdiction to entertain the suit since
the plaintiffs, some of whom are now
dead, failed to institute it within three
months of Ibrahim’s appointment.
Justice Okoro held, “Having appointed
the appellant (Ibrahim) on June 2,
1997 and the 1st to 4th respondents
becoming aggrieved of the said
appointment, their cause of action
arose with effect from June 2, 1997.
“Section 2(a) of the Public Officers
Protection Act states that such an
action, prosecution or proceeding ‘shall
not lie or be instituted unless it is
commenced within three months after
the act, neglect or default complained
of …’
“The effect of the Public Officers
Protection Act like any other statutes of
limitation is to deprive the court of
jurisdiction to entertain an action filed
outside the time prescribed in the
statute.
“The first to fourth respondents did not
file their suit until March 6, 1998,
clearly about nine months after their
cause of action arose.
“That action, in my estimation, ought
to have been filed not later than 2nd
September, 1997.
“Let me state again for the umpteenth
time that where a law prescribes a
period for instituting an action,
proceedings cannot be instituted after
that period.”
The apex court ruled that the Kogi
State High Court, having been robbed
of the jurisdiction to entertain the suit,
“in the same vein, the lower court
(Court of Appeal) had no jurisdiction to
hear and determine the appeal arising
from a judgment generated from the
High Court which had no jurisdiction to
entertain same.”
Justice Okoro then held, “Accordingly,
both the judgment of the High Court of
Kogi State delivered on April 3, 2006
and that of the court below (Court of
Appeal) delivered on January 12, 2009,
are hereby set aside.”
Respondents in the appeal are, Alhaji
Maigida Lawal, Alhaji Isa Omolori, Mr.
Idris Seriki, Mr. Nwaha Sanni, Military
Administrator of Kogi State and the
Attorney-General Federation.

Politics / Re: President Buhari's Speech Criticised! by OJtOp2(m): 10:05pm On May 29, 2015
Tocheagle:
THE MAN HAS NOT STAYED FOR 24 HOURS AND FOOLS ARE ALREADY PICKING FAULTS IN HIM.
The truth be told, his speech should have been more specific and motivating than statement or speech of promises without specific frame of ACTIONs. We owe him every second of his administration to criticise his speeches and actions, decisions and policies.
Politics / President Buhari's Speech Criticised! by OJtOp2(m): 9:26pm On May 29, 2015
As Nigerians look
forward to a new dawn in the
administration of their newly
sworn President, Muhammadu
Buhari, a lawyer has picked holes
in the first speech delivered by
Mr. President. He wrote on
Sahara Reporters.
Article Highlights
– The President has not addressed
the real issues affecting our lives in
Nigeria
– It would seem that the President is
still on the soap box, whereby
promises and promises and
intentions, are the order
– Buhari would have outlined his
main policy direction. But alas, that
has not happened today.

Read below:
“I have read the Inaugural Speech of
the President of the Federal Republic
of Nigeria, Major-General
Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.), delivered
immediately after his swearing in. It
is gratifying that General Buhari has
vowed to tackle the rot in the power
sector, even though he did not give
any direction on how to do that. By
and large, it is my view that the
President has not addressed the real
issues affecting our lives in Nigeria.
It would seem that the President is
still on the soap box, whereby
promises and promises and
intentions, are the order. He is the
President of Nigeria now and my
expectation was that since March 28,
2015, when he won the election,
when he received the certificate of
return from INEC, when he got
assurances from Dr. Goodluck
Jonathan, that his election would not
be contested, General Buhari would
have outlined his main policy
direction. But alas, that has not
happened today.
For instance, the President did not
say anything on his foreign policy
directive, on issues relating to global
warming and climate change, the
violence in the Middle East and the
general global economic downturn.
Also, the President was silent on the
mode of tackling corruption, which
indeed has been the main thrust of
his electioneering campaigns; he was
silent on the collapsing aviation
sector, he kept mute on the unpaid
salaries of millions of workers across
the land, the huge debts that the
Jonathan administration has
bequeathed to him and indeed the
main means of generating revenue,
to run his government, apart from oil.
General Buhari gave no hint on the
mode of reform of the judicial system
and the administration of justice
generally, the expected policy
statement on NNPC did not come,
and even the Boko Haram
insurgency, to which the President
devoted most of his speech, ended
up in a policy disaster, of cause after
effect; in that the President will only
know the cause, origin and
perspectives of the criminal
organization, only after he has
succeeded in killing them all.
In all, the Inaugural Speech became
another campaign promise, a general
rendition of statements of intention,
without action. It was too vague and
illusory, like a speech being delivered
by a novice in power. This is the
President who has ruled this country
as a Head of State, through a coup
detat in 1983, and one that has
sought to rule this nation since 2003,
so he had all the time in the world, to
have mapped out his cause of action
and strategies. This is surely not the
speech expected from our GMB.
In the coming days however, we
expect more concrete reforms and
ACTION”.
God bless Nigeria.

Sports / Re: Carlo Ancelloti Has Been Sacked by OJtOp2(m): 8:29pm On May 25, 2015
Carlo Ancelotti has been sacked as
manager of Real Madrid after two
seasons in charge of the Spanish
club.
The Italian, 55, led Real to victory in the
Spanish Cup before claiming the club's
10th European Cup last season.
But this year they were knocked out by
Juventus in the Champions League
semi-finals, while Barcelona won La
Liga.
Ancelotti's side finished second in
Spain's top flight, two points behind
Barca, who have reached the Spanish
Cup and Champions League finals.
Club president Florentino Perez told a
news conference it had "not been an
easy decision" before thanking
Ancelotti and adding that a new
manager would be appointed "in the
coming week".
Napoli boss Rafael Benitez has
emerged as a contender for the role,
while German newspaper Bild claims
Jurgen Klopp, who will step down as
Borussia Dortmund manager at the end
of the season, will take a six-month
break from football.
Real beat city rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1
after extra time in the Champions
League final in June 2014 to claim 'La
Decima' - their 10th victory in Europe's
most prestigious club competition.
It was Ancelotti's third Champions
League title as a manager - he also won
it twice with AC Milan, in 2003 and
2007 - but he leaves Madrid having
failed to claim the Spanish title since
joining from Paris St-Germain in July
2013.
The former Chelsea boss, whose
contract was due to run until the end of
next season, also won the Club World
Cup in December before Real were
knocked out of the Copa del Rey by
Atletico in January.
In an interview with Italian newspaper Il
Giornale published on Monday
morning, before his departure was
announced, Ancelotti said he would
take a year off and have back surgery if
he left Real.
"I must have a back operation because
of spinal stenosis that for some time
creates a tingle in my hands," he said.
"I don't know how long the period of
recovery will be," he added. "I can
assure you that I've had plenty of offers
from Italy, England, Germany. I'm sure
they will not be lacking from here until
next year."
An inevitable but unpopular decision?
Spanish football expert Andy West:
"In one sense, Ancelotti's departure
was inevitable because all-powerful
Real president Florentino Perez appears
to have taken the decision a while ago.
"Even in mid-March, Perez would only
assert that Ancelotti would be in charge
for the next few 'days and weeks', and
from that moment it seemed certain
the Italian's fate rested on his team's
ability to win either the Champions
League or La Liga.
"With both those trophies escaping
Real's grasp, Monday's news is no
surprise. But the stubborn Perez has
been forced to withstand an
unexpectedly strong degree of public
and private pressure because Ancelotti
remained highly popular to the end.
"His last pre-game news conference on
Friday ended with the media giving
him a standing ovation, which was
subsequently repeated by fans before
Saturday's game against Getafe at the
Bernabeu.
"Then several players voiced their
support for the coach, most notably
Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez.
"But Perez ignored all of them, and now
faces a tough task in placating those
within and outside his organisation who
wanted to keep Ancelotti by appointing
a suitable replacement. And the early
signs are that Rafa Benitez would
receive little more than a lukewarm
reception."

Romance / Can You Marry Your Late Friend's Spouse? by OJtOp2(m): 11:01pm On Apr 25, 2015
The loss of a friend who just got
married could be very painful, to say
the least. But sometimes, death, the
ultimate price everyone pays in life,
could come at a time when no one
expects it. If they were not yet married
when their best friends died, I am asking Nairalanders whether
they could marry their late pals’
spouse?
