For me the fact of the planners being opportunist military personnel wherever they may have come from is less of an issue than the betrayal of igbos in telling their own leaders about the coup and getting them out of the way to kill leaders from other regions.

Also such igbo leaders becoming aware of the coup but failing to inform leaders from other regions so that they too have options. It’s this betrayal that is an issue.
