It happens at times. I can't remember the week, for like two days my baby was not kicking like he should but i have heard it severally that it happens so I was not bothered. I only decided that if it continues till third day I will go for scan.
You can get the Doppler mama talks about or you should go for scan if there is no changes.
so far there’s movement it may because of his fetal position but so long as there’s movement

I don’t like my antenatal clinic, the nurses are so mean, I can’t wait to take my final injection and Move to another clinic. I have been indoors feeling so emotional and I sometimes cry myself to sleep undecided pls I want to buy pregnacare plus and start taking, will it be okay?, I was even telling the nurses my drugs is finished and they didn’t even answer me.

I don't even understand again, what's with this antimalaria drugs and jaundice am seeing here and there? I'm in my 35th week now and I've not been given any anti malaria drugs in my clinic and I don't feel any malaria symptoms. The only drugs asides the routine drugs given at my clinic is Sunday Sunday tablet which sometimes I don't remember to collect, but we're being told that it prevents jaundice.
I heard so too

zaynie:
Good evening mamas.

Concerning neonatal jaundice, another culprit is oxytocin which is used in inducing labor.
I found out about this after my first child. His was mild. For the next 2 deliveries, I wasn't induced and none had it although by the 4th day it seemed my 3rd child was getting yellower than normal. I breastfed her heavily till she pooped A LOT, she pooped lots of black poop and then yellow.
Then the yellow in her skin faded away and she was more active.

The yellowish skin and eyes is as a result of bilirubin in the blood, the best way to get it out is to feed baby continually till baby no longer poops black or brown but only yellow.
Don't wait till milk comes out before you feed the baby, at most by the 24th hour, your baby should be eating so that it can start excreting the bilirubin out.

Note that before birth, the only organs doing any serious work is the brain and the heart. All others are just cruising and heavily dependent on the mother. As such some of the organs such as the lungs, kidney and the liver experience a shock as they have to now do more work.
Don't put unnecessary pressure on those tiny organs by giving them drugs or agbo from birth.
so are there better options than oxytocin?. Almost everyone in my ward had jaundice

Good day Mamas. I'd like to say this for the malaria drugs in pregnancy. I'm a Parasitologist. And malaria is caused by a parasite that I studied. It is called plasmodium. In pregnancy, this parasite can be very bad. They gather on the surface of the placenta and affect the fetus. They can cause fetal loss, low-birth weight and maternal anemia.

So, WHO recommends that pregnant women living in malaria-endemic countries (like Nigeria) should be given malaria drugs from their SECOND TRIMESTER whether they have malara or not. . This malaria drug is for prevention NOT treatment. It doesn't matter if you're down with malaria or not because Nigeria has mosquitoes. It should be taken two or three times from the second trimester. It is given during antenatal. They call it Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Malaria (IPTp or SP). It is usually fansidar. You swallow the three tablets at once.

Please, let's endeavour to take this drug from our second trimester. If your doctor doesn't mention it, ask him or her about it. It is WHO's recommendation.

Malaria in pregnancy can be fatal. Sometimes, the mother may be fine, but a lot is going on with the placenta and the fetus. This is because the malaria parasite usually cluster on the surface of the placenta in pregnant women. Thereby affecting the food supply of the baby and leading to low birth weight and other issues. Please, the drug is not for treatment. It is for prevention. Let's try to take it.

Thank you kiss
nicely done and very informative

God bless u million times for this...was about writing this wn i saw ur input....Wondering where these mamas got their fact that malaria drugs should be taken compulsorily during pregnancy, even when u ain't having malaria...I don't take any malaria drug during my LOs pregnancy(why should i do when i have no malaria?)..and there was NO jaundice..
lol I’m sure the malaria drug was for some specific reason because you didn’t have doesn’t mean everybody’s pregnancy babies or blood group is same. Please please women let’s all do whatever we are told to do during our ante natal.

MamaOO:
For both of my kids, it was caused by ABO incompatibility. I’m blood type O, my husband is blood type B and both my baby boys came out sharing their dads blood type B. During pregnancy and birth, the mom’s immune system might detect the baby’s unfamiliar blood protein antigens and create antibodies to fight the unfamiliar protein in the baby’s blood. This immune response causes the baby’s red blood cells to break down after its born and that’s what causes jaundice in babies who’s blood type is different from their mom’s.
I really appreciate your explicit response we’re currently facing this and an EBT has been done. I’m stressed but I’m hopeful

Hello mama, how are you and LO doing this morning ? Your baby will be fine . The light therapy is one of the treatment given amongst other treatments. Yes, I didn't like it too, it seems too much for a new baby coupled with the fact that their eyes has to be covered and all. Jaundice treatment can really be tiring but at the end you will laugh. Make sure you ask questions to be sure the level is reducing. The level and response to treatment will determine how soon you will be discharged. Make sure baby feeds well either way, this also helps.

My DD2 had it so bad that she had exchange transfusion. She is a rainbow baby and i had her through ELCS, so you can imagine what I went through. We were in the hospital for 2 weeks and 2 days after her birth.

Stay strong mama, there is light at the end of the tunnel, you are not alone. Soon you will be home with your baby and everything will be in the past. When I started getting agitated then, my dad told me to calm down because I also had it as a baby .

Sending love, light and plenty hugs to you.
wowwwww thank you so much mama kisses to your LO

@oke how is our prince doing now.Quick recovery ijn.
Experienced mamas should enlighten we ftm what causes jaundice in babies. At my clinic they said not taking antimalarial drugs causes it.How true is that cos I only used it once in the journey of this pregnancy
I heard about this anti malaria but I never missed my drugs at all not once though a week to delivery the weather brought on a lot of mosquitoes so it could have caused malaria for me

Please don’t say you don’t like the UV light o. For them not to discharge you, that means the jaundice is really high. You have to be patient and let them take care of your precious one, mom. I know you want to go home, you will eventually. Infact Na you go eventually tire.

Jaundice is no joke and if left untreated can lead to live altering outcomes for the child. Both my kids were severely jaundiced and spent no less than 16 days at the hospital before they let them go home. My first actually had to be airlifted to a children’s hospital in another city cos his own was so bad. They didn’t check his blood type nor check his jaundice early until very late and the thing had already set in. They were already preparing our minds for an exchange transfusion, but God intervened and it didn’t get to that.

What kind of jaundice does your child have? Did they tell you? What other treatment are they given apart from the phototherapy? How many lights are on him/her? What are the daily levels? Is it reducing? Does the baby have a bili blanket underneath? Is the baby breastfed or formula fed? Ask questions mama. Don’t be afraid to ask. It’s your right.
oh my! He’s at 10.9 he’s under 3 uv lights and taking furoxetil every 12 hours and abidec daily he is currently breastfed the nurses said if I keep him under the light well it would improve but he keeps crying

Congratulations mama, welcome precious baby.

cheesy cheesy grin hahhahahahahahha abeg permit me to laugh small. You know the day I was reading that post of Labour very easy, that's its only the mindset abi endurance, I kept mute because I didn't want to cause unnecessary arguments that early morning and know a post like this will certainly come.
Everyone prays for a very easy and painless labour but we should not cancel the fact that labour pains are damn so real.

Congratulations once again and welcome to the world of vigilante
