Parts of the Roles of the CBN is to defend the integrity of the Nation's currency against external shocks. A major reason the CBN is against cryptocurrency because as good as the idea of cryptocurrency is, it may portend a great danger for the Money market as there is no veritable platform by law for regulations either by CBN or any relevant Agency. |

Oshigun: Why is it that Nigerian government can never talk about family planning? Such a simple concept that will go a very long way to solving majority of Nigeria's woes.
As it is , why should an unemployed man have 5 wives and 25 kids to then tell us he must have more kids because "children are a blessing from God"?
We are swimming against the tides, and will never win, if we don't tackle the unfeasible population growth of Nigeria because universal challenges exist related to fast growing population having to share dwindling resources. The population of the world is growing too rapidly for the resources of the world to cater for.
The problem is then far worse in Nigeria that is poor, infrastructurally comatose, creating far less jobs to even employ a minimally optimal number of Nigerians and with issues of poor healthcare, illiteracy, terrorism, crime, corruption etc. We need to start confronting major problems rather than dancing around them because we are surely going down if we continue doing the later. Are you telling me that without family planning being addressed by the government then you cant caution yourself |

The vice president says the population growth is "handsomely" ahead of the economic growth figures Nigeria has to act fast to develop a sustainable food system as it faces a population growth that is “handsomely” ahead of its economic growth figures, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said Tuesday.
Mr Osinbajo said the need to create a food system that works “has never been more urgent and more existential” as the country’s poverty levels has worsened particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout.
The vice president made these remarks during the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), organised by the Nigerian government in collaboration with the United Nations, which was held virtually with over 700 participants in attendance.
The dialogue was organised with the hope of identifying food systems challenges from multiple perspectives, thereby highlighting priority actions for Nigeria’s food systems and providing pathways towards ensuring resilient and sustainable food systems in Nigeria by 2030.
“Malnutrition and unhealthy dietary practices create unique threats to health and productivity for generation after generation,” Mr Osinbajo said.
Mr Osinbajo described the dialogue as a crucial dialogue that should be all encompassing in order for Nigerians, policy makers and key stakeholders to benefit maximally.
He said the dialogue will help to raise global awareness and shape global commitments towards mobilising food systems, so as to address hunger, reduce diet related diseases and strengthen primary health systems across boards.
Mr Osinbajo explained that it is a significant challenge to produce enough food for a rapidly growing population, especially given the changes required in modernization of farming practices, mechanization, and reduction of post-harvest losses.
“But there are also questions around ensuring environmentally sustainable production practices, creating empowering jobs and livelihoods, and building capacities to ensure sustainable and healthy food systems,” he said.
These issues, he said, require expertise and experience, and also, the views of those who will literally be at the receiving end of these plans.
“In other words, at these dialogues, we don’t just want to hear the experts, we want to hear those at the receiving end, for whom all these plans are being made – the people of the country across all strata of society,” he said.
Mr Osinbajo urged that the food we produce and eat, how we produce and eat, should be environmentally friendly and not destroy the environment for future generations. He said “That seems simple enough. Aside from the inherent difficulties of recommending dietary changes, which is habit-forming and for most people, there are tough questions about what practices make sense in a high-income country and what will make sense in a developing country.” https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/444979-nigeria-needs-urgent-action-on-food-as-population-surges-osinbajo.html

Tiday-today, 18 people were reportedly killed in kaduna South by terrorists whom our government have nicknamed armed bandits, herdsmen , cattle rustlers, armed militiamen etc ( we know it's always not the actual figure as number of casualties could double or triple what's being officially declared). Politics › Osinbajo: Malnutrition, Unhealthy Dietary Practices Are A Threat To Health by okefranci(op): 12:26pm On Feb 24, 2021 |
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said malnutrition and unhealthy dietary practices could create unique threats to health and productivity for generation after generation.
Osinbajo who stated this while delivering an address at the inception dialogue on the UN food systems summit held yesterday in Abuja, noted that Nigeria is faced with population growth that exceeds growth figures handsomely.
He said that the issue of developing a sustainable food system is very urgent and more existential in Nigeria, particularly due to the fact that poverty has deepened in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout.
The vice president while calling for global dialogues to develop a sustainable food system, said it is important that the nuances of the society and situation are introduced into the conversation so that the conversation is richer, fairer, and more just for the people.
Osinbajo said: ‘’I am most delighted to be with you this morning for this very crucial dialogue on the Nigeria Food System in collaboration with the United Nations to raise global awareness and shape global commitments towards mobilising food systems to address hunger, reduce diet-related diseases and strengthen plenary health.
‘’The Secretary-General of the United Nations deserves our commendation for this proactive initiative, especially its importance in urgently achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. I am told that the plan is for each member State to organize three dialogues; Inception, Exploratory and Consolidatory.
‘’It is a significant challenge to produce enough food for a rapidly growing population, especially given the changes required in modernisation of farming practices, mechanisation, and reduction of post-harvest losses.’’
Speaking further, he said there are also questions around ensuring environmentally sustainable production practices, creating empowering jobs and livelihoods, and building capacities to ensure sustainable and healthy food systems.
These issues, according to him, require expertise and experience, but also the views of those who will literarily be at the receiving end of these plans.
At these dialogues, we don’t just want to hear the experts, we want to hear those at the receiving end, for whom all these plans are being made – the people of the country across all strata of society. This brings me to the matter of ensuring that these dialogues are accessible to all, meaning that they do not become one for experts essentially talking shop.
‘’In other words, the food we produce and eat, how we produce and eat, should be environmentally friendly and not destroy the environment for future generations. That seems simple enough. Aside from the inherent difficulties of recommending dietary changes, which is habit-forming and for most people, there are tough questions about what practices make sense in a high-income country and what will make sense in a developing country.’’ But even as we debate these issues, we must bear in mind that somewhere else, debates are going on about defunding gas projects – about gas not being environmentally friendly enough. We have to take all of these issues into account, especially because we are debating issues in the international community, we are contributing to a global conversation,’’ Osinbajo said. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2021/02/24/osinbajo-malnutrition-unhealthy-dietary-practices-threat-to-health/amp/

Politics › Osinbajo: School Feeding Addresses Country’s Nutrition Challenges by okefranci(op): 2:11pm On Feb 22, 2021 |
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said on Monday that one of the reasons the Buhari administration’s Homegrown School Feeding Programme was conceived was to address problems of malnutrition, especially among primary school pupils.
Osinbajo stated this while receiving a delegation of Nigerian human nutritionists led by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
According to Osinbajo, the Federal Government would be ready to collaborate with States where nutrition issues are most urgent in prioritising the implementation of the school feeding programme.
Already, 14 States are benefiting across the country, with almost 3 million pupils being fed daily.
The Vice President stated that the government would consider inaugurating the National Council on Nutrition.
He, however, urged the experts to come up with an action plan to effectively address the malnutrition challenges in the country.
Abubakar, who came with leaders of the Nutrition Society of Nigeria, had detailed the concerns of Nigerian professional human nutritionists on malnutrition challenges, and how Nigeria was faring regarding the global nutrition targets.
The delegation urged the Federal Government to inaugurate a National Council on Nutrition to address the situation.
Meanwhile, a release from the Vice Presidential Spokesman, Mr Laolu Akande, indicated that no fewer than 19,000 schools in 14 states were benefiting from the school feeding programme.
Akande stated that 2,918,842 school children from 19,881 schools in the 14 pilot states had so far benefitted from the school feeding programme, which is part of President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s N500 billion Social Investment Programmes.
He noted that a total of N6,643,432,789 billion had been disbursed by the Federal Government since the school feeding programme began late last year.
With 3,325 schools, Kaduna State has the highest number of schools so far covered under the programme, as well as the highest number of school children (835,508) being fed.
He said that with the commencement of a new academic session in September, it was expected that more schools would benefit from the programme, as more states would be added to the list.
The Vice Presidential spokesman added that it was in line with the Federal Government target that 5.5 million school children would be fed by the end of 2017.(NAN) https://www.sunnewsonline.com/school-feeding-addresses-countrys-nutrition-challenges-osinbajo/
