deolub:you can opt for well design and management for you Msc, with your auto card experience it help you a lot, or you can go for SACs training mostly used by structural and offshore engineers for offshore installations very lucrative , but the training is a hefty sum, or you can take a shot at piping design and management another hot career. if you are serious in going for an Msc abroad, go for offshore engineering, it comprises just about everything mentioned above cheers |

Benel Energy Resources Ltd Bi-Trax House, Plot 12 Block 88, Otunba Adedoyin Ogunge Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, Nigeria Email : info@benelenergy.com Tel : +2348037403062 ASK OF AKPAN |
bejo2_k: honestly i dont know what to say, if you really have these i don't think u should have any problem with any human resource personnel , all u need is to package ursef well. Aim for the big MNC (oil and gas), go their websites and send unsolicited application, it will catch someone's attention, especially the management part but meen , you are on fire ! ijay024:just start off by going for self sponsored training, depends on where you are resided, if you in Lagos or Ph, there are some training centres you can start from, but the prices are not cheap either |
@ chima the institution organising the certification ought to have provided reading materials and references, you should inquire from them. |
exactly!! thats what you should do, ask questions , try to know whats going on , meet the guys that are on-the-job and make acquaintance that's how you learn, they might not be open to you at first but if you take the initiative and develop your self it will help you. the problem with most Nigerian oil servicing coys is that they do not have the core competencies to carry out these activities, so they partner with the foreign coys for technical expertise and they hustle for the contracts and share the proceeds 50/50. you should try and go out of your way to learn all you can, that's how you develop, your coy will not send you for training, unless your father is the owner of the coy. so make the most of the opportunity, after you have developed ursef to some extent you can always migrate to better service company. there are always jobs for completion personnel Experience really pays high dividend in the end. |
^^^ Carry on, well stimulation is inline with reservoir engineering as it deals with the amount of oil in place when a well is to be recovered or stimulated to become productive. from what you ve described of your job ,its like you guys are more into completions and recovery. take it very seriously, you will come across it when u eventually decide to take the course. you might still need to read up well logging too. |
eh? e don reach like that ? |
@ Netted distance learning or normal learning mode are all the same when it comes to heriot watt, you can do distance learning if you don't intend leaving your job, but if you are granted study leave and have the means you can attend as a regular student cos you will have to do site trips to companies to carry out real reservoir simulations and also discuss with your class mates, but distance learning is ok, if your job entails reservoir engineering, all the same its a good way to start, if you successfully complete the program it will not show whether you studied distance or regular as you will be receiving the same certificate with the regulars, give it a shot @ aysometin i think what u r saying comes under Safety, environmentalist comes when there is an oil spill or just for routine environmental audit of the environment , its called environmental impact assessment, it entails taking audit of the impact of the companies activities on the environment and natural habitat, it has to do more with environmental audit on oil/gas and marine coys, its a nice career path, but they don,t work with drilling engineers, all though they do go offshore sometimes to do routine audit of a companies activities offshore. |
^^^ probably in the kitchen, engineering some delicacies |
@ ehido Art program is an accelerated program that will equip you from been a green horn to a well trained rig superintendent. its for two years and it entails rigorous rig activity along with some theoretical course work, you are taught everything about the rig,how it works and the people you are to work with. there is an assessment test that goes with each module i think, if you are good, you can move to a rig supervisor, this position takes years to attain if you come in as a rough neck, that's why its called an accelerated program. @ zugoboss bros its very necessary, its the passport that gets you on the rig, every rig personell needs it, even if you are going there to fry plantain!! @dozie i really dont know anywhere in Nigeria where it is been taught, i know the french a good in well logging, you can try rigzone.com and check for training centers on well logging you will definitely get some lead. @ mcnepow just go to this site www.egpet.net register , then type what you are looking for in the search engine, you get tons and tons of that subject, just download the one you need that's all, its website for personnel that work in the oil and gas industry, but its an Egyptian website very informative and loaded, you might even meet a landmark personnel that might be of help to you. thank me later ![]() |
@ username well i don't really think it will be easy in Nigeria, considering the fact that every company in NIgeria sees Bsc as the basic you should have before applying for a job, unless you have a very sound technical certificate that is equivalent to a 3 years Bsc degree. In some other countries, like Ghana, this would have been very possible, why?, there cherish experience more than a Bsc without no experience because at the end of the day you are still going to invest time, resources to train the Bsc guy and you still have to factor in some time for him to catch up with the job and become productive, all the same nothing is impossible, afterall i do see philipino,s, mexicans and dutch roughnecks in rigs in nigerian continental waters, some can barely speak english, but they have technical certificates, its just the system, our government did not make any provision to protect these jobs for it's citizen, it will amaze you that some of this foreign hands are recruited here in nigeria by nigerian recruitment consultants!! just give it a short, Nebosh is a nice cert to have its useful but in the oil and gas and most especially the marine industry |
@ 27naira thanks a lot jare, that's the school, nice school but the pay is quite high!! Ehido:transocean is a very good place to start a career as a drilling trainee, nice pay package and working conditions , i have a classmate who works there, he is in angola manning on of their rigs, its a very good coy to start a career, they are the second largest drilling coy in the world after KCA deutag of germany, if you find your self there just go to church and do a big thanskgiving to GOD. |
abinibi - SCM Logistics |
Guy just go and learn pipe design related course and also learn how to use the software. PDMS will be a good start, Pipsim etc you can go to lonadek at v.i they can advise you better, they do train gas and pipe engineers, but be ready to cough out 350k for training but it will worth it at the end |
mygucci:i have long moved away from there, upengineer:you will have to re read this thread again , i think it has been mentioned here a number of times, just take the pains and go through again |
ok since you ask for it try Fahd university in saudi arabia, their tution is free but u need a GPA of 4.0 or better, a second class upper will suffice but it must be in chemical or petroleum,u work while schooling as a graduate research assistant, a colleague of mine took this advice and he is eternally grateful, working ,getting paid and schooling in the oil and gas career!! but you must have 4.0 or better there is one other unverisity on dubai only for petroleum graduates, cost is around 25,000 usd , once you finish, you MUST work in any oil and gas coy in dubai for 2 years, this one is sure banker, i have forgotten the name of the uni, i will post it when i remember. Robert gordon is still a nice uni too if you have the funds Imperial college is another nice uni, clausthal zellerfeld germany is another nice school for petroleum grads, you work after your studies, u can contact devmatic for more details. IFP too is a nice way to start , the fees are not cheap either, and its just opposite uniport, the program is for 2 years and you are always apprised of any latest vacancy in the oil and gas coys around Portharcourt, know that this school is funded by total, University of Leoben in Austria is another nice school for petroleum grads As for SCM , there are many routes , however, i mentioned those two schools because of the school's affiliation to CIPS which is a certification course for supply chain in the uk and is worldly recognized or better still you can do cips self study and attain that same route , which ever you take will land you in the oil and gas industry, but its not easy , just give it a shot. |
mygucci:google is your best adviser on this. As for IFP PH, if you have the fee its still good , you can go, its organized by total, i think schlum too has also indicated interest in the program. mygucci:All the modules are industry tailored, what you will be taught is what is obtainable in the industry, so its nothing new, besides you will be working mostly with software's tailored for the oil and gas logistics. |
bros its not possible to get that past question papers, after the exam the question papers are collected back, so its not possible to get past question papers. read well and pass the exams, thats all!! |
Flybulous:From what i understand from your post, you trying to find out what lies at the end of the tunnel, well if you must know every success comes from sheer hard work, i understand how you feel when you say you had no passion for your discipline, during my undergraduate days i have come across guys who started well during their initial year but at the end of their final they do badly and the reason they give is they have no passion for the course they are studying, this might attributed to many reasons, but the most common is that after trying to get a good 4.00 GPA and they could not, it dampens their spirit and zeal to strive further at the end they blame the system, their lecturers, the situation of the country, we all cannot come out with a 1st class, but we can strive to develop yourself to the point of rubbing shoulders with the first class materials which to me is not rocket science when you come to look at it. For the Elect/elect majors, i consider them lucky as par the employment situation of the country today, apart from working in the oil and gas industry which is the main reason for studying engineering as par the average engineering student thinking, they can still work in the telecom industry, the IT industry, even in movie industry, these industry pay good rate to their employees in the technical discipline. As for working in the oil and gas, you can do your masters in instrumentation,if you have the money, well logging is another nice career path as you will be working with electronic tools and softwares,or you take a short in the telecoms direction, i think there is a thread for it here in NL mygucci:Masters in Petroleum engineering will give you a greater edge, it will put you in the main stream of the oil and gas industry, rates for PE guys are going up. Masters in Supply chain mgt with a bias in the oil gas industry will put you in a managerial role of the oil and gas industry, if you have 21,000 USD , try university of Liverpool or glamorgan, their masters cert in logistics and SCM is accredited by Cips, which is GOLD to most European Oil and gas coys like shell, total and BP. As ,for |
^^^ if you don,t have love for it why do it in the first place? are you insinuating that you wasted 5 years in school reading what you do not like to read because you found out you are people -oriented ? for your info EE grads work in the oil and gas industry, so if you don't have love for it , i wonder how you can get in. |

WELL AS THEY SAY - THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS, - EVERYBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL , THAT IS ONE FREEDOM GOD HAS BESTOWED ON US AND EACH PERSON WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS ACTIONS as for Soyinka and pirates, whatever was the intent for the creation of such group may be the product of the society they found themselves, THAT BEEN SAID WHAT IS EVIL IS EVIL and what is good is good any how you look at it, from the pics of the original founders, one of them is now a pastor or a minister, cos they was a war of words between Soyinka and the minister as to whether NAS is a cult, which was published on the guardian newspaper around 1999,in which the minister clearly said that the group do undergo some form of traditional rites which is synonymous with cultist activities and initiation. Well what ever was the motive, ideology, credo for forming this group was greatly upheld by this seven youngster who have the same vision and objectives at that time, whatever they , are, which according to one poster here includes fighting injustice and oppressive government., for starters, you have to be crazy ,bold, fearless and a die hard for you to fight against constituted authority that brings oppression, unjust legal system on its subjects, be it in the tertiary institutions or in the larger society, it takes guts to do that, knowing that your life is on the line. whatever happens in our tertiary institution is a reflection of the bigger society we live in, our system stinks of corruption in every facet of the Nigerian Life , Soyinka ,during his early days tried to fight against whatever injustice he perceived as oppression from the school authorities, even in his old age and till date , he still fights and talks against successive corrupt and unjust government in what ever form he can, pyrate or no pyrate!!! But unfortunately , the youngsters of today do not share such vision, every body is trying to belong - conformity!, i am not in any way saying that cultism or pirates is good thing , hell no, its worst thing that has happened in the history of Nigerian tertiary institutions and should be eradicated - you don't have to be a pirate or any other "Frat" to add value to the society , what we need now is people with Vision. Saying soyinka is the founding father of cultism is doing him a deservice, of course he might have started pyrate as a group but successive groups that formed after that spiraled into secret cults just to gain relevance in the society by any means necessary and a willing tool for destructive politicians and corrupt government, afterall there pastors that performs healing miracles but there are fake, wolves in sheep clothing. any body can form a group but what is the objective of forming such group?, like i said before , the devil is in the details - if you look very well you see all is not what it seems to be. |
@ albinibi nice list you have up there, but from the look of things , the list has bias to only procurement , can't we broaden it to look at the whole supply chain? To me Procurement is just a part of the full supply chain management, we should also take into cognizance other aspects like raw material extraction, blueprints initiation,Design Validation, quality control, lean/just in time production, research and development, project management, quality control, contract administration, document control, and also staffing,Human resource planning and development, performance bench marking, the list is endless, |

^^^^ i wonder how some guys open them sef open for fraudsters, i thought the immigration process is pretty straight forward, you can really do the process your self, using a consultant does not increase your chances of been giving a visa, if you are qualified , you are qualified, there is no need for this, in the light of the above i congratulate the poster, he has really come a long way , i cant believe he still doggedly went on with his intentions, i doff my hat to him, this shows the true Nigerian spirit, where there is a will , there is a way, my advice is before one embarks on such a project you should be ready for anything, don,t go with the notion that the roads will be paved with gold, it is the human will and spirit that creates wealth, believe in GOD and do your best, Canada might not be the eldorado it was so hyped to be, but i have not seen any body from there that is complaining when they get back, if you have all the basic amenities working well and maintained why won,t you work?, back here you pay for some amenities and you get Nothing!!, and nobody to complain to. once again i congratulate the poster, he took a very BOLD step, his kids will be grateful for giving them a good start in Life. |
