CultureMust You Abuse Us? by olaBanks(op): 10:13pm On Jul 19, 2016
Physical abuse now pervades. It is observed in public places and even at home. When it is public, it gains an outcry but when it is private (at home), its a domestic affair.
Since the typical way of raising a child in Nigeria is 'AUTHORITARIAN' in nature, then physical abuse is inherently embedded therein. This parenting style gives the parents an inalienable right to raise their kids! It further covertly empowers them to correct their kids through spanking, yelling and bullying! These are forms of abuse. It is not right and can never be! The commonest form of abuse (domestic) is physical abuse.
Physical abuse has been understood to be the use of force, threats and even objects to inflict pain on an individual be an adult, child or teen. It is so sad to comprehend how growing up in an environment that favours physical abuse as directed towards children and teens was.
Beating can be a form of physical abuse especially through the serious serial slaps (SSS). I recalled my friend was beaten for least offences committed. He was flogged and caned for eating out and for being rude to adults. Nobody wanted to hear him out, he was always wrong! Could that be true?
Should he be reported for a wrong doing, he was punished especially at nights. His mother will sit on his stomach, turn up the volume of radio, so that no one hear he scream and yell out of pain. The next day, the dude pretends nothing happened, but went cold afterwards. The abuse altered his ego and self esteem and he did badly in school. He was beaten at that still.
Physical abuse will not only inflict bodily harm but will transcend into the subconscious to affect the mind and thought processes. Please, do not abuse a child.
I forget to add that my friend bed wets and so was ridiculed very early in the morning before going to school and in front of his peers. Although, his peers too had bed wet the night before. That meant that all of them must have been ridiculed at sometime for bed wetting. Could that be right? Please, stop the abuse!
An illustration of types of Serious Serial Slap (a form of physical abuse) is given in the proceeding paragraphs. Instance of
YORUBA MOTHERS is drawn.
Yorùbá mothers are the best when it comes to child upbringing.
These mothers produce the best range of slaps:
IGBATI,
IFOTI,
IGBAJU,
IGBARUN,
IFORUN,
IFAKUN,
ILADI,
ABARA.
These slaps will make you think you were adopted.
IGBATI will make you correct your wrongs instantly!
The beauty of IFOTI is that you will confess your sins on the spot.
IGBARUN, IGBAJU and IFORUN will make you expose those you committed the crime without hesitation.
ABARA and ILADI will make you pee in your new pants.
Apart from all of these, we have an advanced one which is called IGBAJU OLOYI.
When you receive that one, you will lose balance and your head will go into "auto-search" as you will be looking for what hits you.
This will make you do all the actions of the other slaps aforementioned at once!
OH! IGBAJU OLOYI! It can reset someone to 3D (DEAF, DUMB, and DAFT). With this one, your mother will say let us go home and you will say it is in my pocket ma. All of these for raising a child. Too bad!
But in actual sense, can those form part of a good parenting style? I doubt it! It has however been argued that if you were brought up in Nigeria, regardless of your mother's ethnicity and how caring she seem, you MUST have encountered one of these slaps in the course of your upbringing! No Lie.
It is not a laughing matter.
That is mean and Sad.

I just shared an opinion.

EducationRe: Help A Nairalander Explain This Exam Question To Be Faced In Two Days Time. by olaBanks(m): 6:21pm On Jul 18, 2016
Educational test tests are series of standardized examinations that are used to evaluate and appraise an individual usually a student. This is to say that courses taken in schools form basis of Educational testing.
A psychological test is an out of the box approach that is used to gain deeper understanding of an individual. It can be used to test character and emotional intelligence. Such as whether an individual will crack under pressure or not.

Arguement for
Since, a significant number of persons would tend to tie inputs to outputs (Carrot and stick relationship). Then the worth of a man can be explained by submitting him to Educational and Psychological test. The best ways of knowing better candidates (or best candidates) is to subject them to test. This means that since the best candidate would emerge, then he worth and dignty is known. More so, even if the best candidate did not emerge, the person who (whether by fluke, nature or design) is assumed the best. He earn earnsns his dignity. This is to say that the worth of a person is earned.

Argument Against
Test of any kind cannot be true test of knowledge, woth and dignity of human person. An inidividual fails a test or did badly in a course does not. Mean he is less of worth and dignity. A humble grocer who is known in her locale as being trust worthy can be said to have being dignified by her people. Deeds and mass consent can earn an individual dignity. This is to say that simple virtues such as truth and perspiration can earn an individual dignity. The capitalism conception of life as made it a thinking that dignity and worthy of an individual be measured by material possession at their disposal. Can this be right? No!

In this case, Amu Chijioke is a Christian and a peadophile. He is not using christianity as a cover and infact, he is a Catholic christian. The largest sect in christianity.
He is also Igbo too an from the most hardworking tribe in Nigeria.

What I see
There is too much of hypocricy and name calling and tagging against Al-Islam. Wherever, a crime is committed and the name shows that the person is a muslim, the media is flooded with comments. And nobody cares to ask, if the offender actually says his 5times daily prayers.

On the other way round, if a person commit crime and the name shows that he is a Christian, then you see the media being silent on it and you see hypocrisy reign at the hihigest. People will give you logical reaseons why the crime was committed and try to exonorated religion from that act committed.
This is the one thing that separate a believer from a non believer! Truth and falsehood!

RomanceTiwa Savage And Her Marriage by olaBanks(op): 8:36pm On Apr 30, 2016
Its a hot news making swaying that the duo of Tiwa and Teeblizz are considering quiting the marriage. Also in another twist, that TJ (Teeblizz) had suicidal thoughts, wrote suicide note and posts and even attempted suicide. All of this happened in a marriage of less than four years. Very pathetic!
Crisis in marriage could be as a result of insufficient and epileptic flow of money and fame, sexual pleasure and all. All of these can lead to depression.
Depression is a real illness that impacts the brain and cause dysfunctional behaviours. Depression can cause an imbalance in the body chemistry, anxiety, fear and so on. Losing a precious one is potent in that regard.
The World Health Organization characterizes depression as one of the most disabling disorders in the world, affecting roughly one in five women and one in ten men at some point in their lifetime. It is estimated that 21% of women and 12% of men in the U.S will experience an episode of depression at some point in their lifetime.
In Nigeria, there are insufficient data on depression and most of what are available are chunks of academic research. For example, in a study conducted by (Aguocha and Co and cited in International Journal of Clinical Psychiatry
2015), depression is reported to be common among resident doctors in Nsukka, Nigeria. Also, depression may seriously affect resident doctors’ professional functioning and may lead to serious impacts on health behavior of the community in general. More so, in a study conducted to determine the rate of depression among resident doctors in Tehran, Iran, it was reported that 31.2% of the total study population had symptoms of depression (26% of the males and 39% of the females). Symptoms of depression were 2.3 times more frequent in females. Unfortunately most of the depressed resident doctors had no history of psychiatric visit or treatment. Following from that, one can rightly posit that depression do not know bounds as it cut across professions, sex, religion and race.
Depression is alos identifieds as a core factor implied in why marriages are breaking up. For example, 2shot was reported to have maltreated his wife and suffered depression partially owing to the fact that the dude is going broke! Depression!
Anybody can be depressed. Nations can be depressed. In a sane society, depression is treated as a form of ailment whereas in developing countries depression is fiction.
With these view points, I can assert that depression plays a crucial role in why marriages are breaking up. The case of Tiwa and TJ just brings depression to the fore. A core observation I just made.
Thank you for your time!
Ps: Please, learn more on depression, support a depressed person and live happily. You only have one life to live, so do they!
Thank you

It is sad that a senator can make common sense assertions, when he can present an empirical analysis of issues. Making commonsense statements is not only a misgiving but a dis service to the academics.
Commonsense statement: An increase in the dollar relative to the naira will lead to inflation.
Empirical Statement: An increase in the dollar may cause inflation in the long run in a developing nation, providing there are no injections, investment, fall in oil prices and or institutional problems(Corruption or sabotage)

The senate is supposed to house, the best of brains in a country and not commonsense revolutionist.

My Mother.
Those where the rhymes that made my lips during childhood. It became the team song of my school. Its was dedicated to mothers!
I am using this platform to celebrate all mothers and bid them joy and full health.
As we celebrate our mothers (Through Mother's day investiture), I just remembered how African mothers (Most of them) treat their children. My account I will share.
As a growing teen who wanted to explore, I was barred from going too far. Even to our friends house. When I dash out (always to play), I will already start crying before getting home, because I know what was next.
Eating in your friend's house was a crime against the state. Once I return and she smell my mouth(to Know whether, I eat out) and the aroma/smell/odour is different from what she is familiar with, then I was whipped.
It never occured to me that I had a right as a child. Although, the dominant parenting style in Africa and indeed the global south is 'Autoritarian'.
From another angle, I would have gone astray(morally) probably if not for regular spanking. Can that be true

I just shared shared my thought! What's your take?
CultureThe Fables They Fed Us With by olaBanks(op): 8:23am On Feb 25, 2016
Fables are conjectures used for moral and social upbringing of a child. It is a very important ingredient of socialization. Fables are universal as it cut across societies and transcend man himself. It is often used as restraints from a particular behaviour or to stress the existence of supernatural forces. And also, to explain how these forces may come to affect our lives.
Fables may be false.
It is called 'Fabu' among the Yoruba people. Some of these 'Fabus' are given below:

1. When you draw a line and ants get into the line, one mother's breast grows too big
2. The skies were closer to us, but our sins made it farther
3. If you watch TV while its raining, god of thunder(Sango) will carry the TV out of the 'Parlour' and strike it into bits.
4. Some men dug soak away and got to a new world or heared voices of people beneath saying 'Who are those throwing stones on our 'Pan' (Zinc or roofing sheets)
5. It is very wrong to stay at the middle of the entrance door while its raining
6. Awolowo appeared in the moon, days after his death.

CultureNigerian Beggers And Their Dimensions Of Begging. by olaBanks(op): 9:29am On Feb 21, 2016
Making begging a culture.
Asking for alms is not new to man and it is even explicitly allowed in the three monolithic religions of the world (Islam, Christianity and Judaism). This is because beggers shall not cease in the land. Begging and beggers havenow take different dimensions and forms, some are identified here
1. Student beggers: They use an appeal to pity to ask for money from you. They would not beg normally, but circustances may force them to. E.g Bros, pls help me, I am a student of Uni..., I misplaced my wallet, help me with transport fare to Ilorin(assumed place)
2. Mall beggers:Always at the entrance of a shopping mall or bank. Once you done buying or transacting, they tell you- Big guy, Na you oo, Anything for us too.
3. Highway beggers: These are usually of the
Northern Nigeria extract with one arm or leg chopped off. They stay in potholes and ask travellers to drop arms for them. These beggers are proud and very insulting.
4. ATM beggers: Though not common in the southern part of Nigeria, these beggers wear good clothes and smell nice. They approach you once you done using the ATM and say all the prayers of the worlds for you. In the end, they beg.
4. Social begger:Common in the southwest Nigeria, these beggers rely on the pretext of fixing ribbon on your dress during special days or events such as weddings, birthdays, Valentine's day, New year and so. These type are also occasional beggers as they have enjoined patronage from the public, especially those who give too easily.

One of the problems of of developing democracy is its judiciary. Most times, decisions of judges and courts are conflicting and absurd. This is why Justice Mahmud Muhammed himself is not happy about that.
Also, shaddy prosecution and hasty verdicts have been the problem of the judiciary. We all recall how Mr. Festus Kiyamo lost some many cases on technical grounds, even when the cases where supposed to be a clear shot.
So, the case of kabiru sokoto is not an exception. Most times, the defense council is very meticulous in handling cases, while the prosecuting council is never organized.
Lastly, developing democracies have to learn re- learn and un- learn nuances of 'Ideal democracy.

Of the comments i read, i didnt not see a person sid that Christainity is in support of family planning. There is no verse of the Bible that expressly supported familiy planning. And if a true christain just supports this without cogent reason, he is a innovator!
An inovator is a person who infuss his REASON into RELIGION, for region is not scientific, its purely based on faith! If not, how would a Christain professor of Mathematics believed the doctrine of TRINITY. Its commensensically wrong.
And as a matter of fact, Catholicism outrightly forbades its adherents from engaging in control. A true catholic will not disprove of this! In Islam and pristine christainity, family planning is not allowed. But, unless, if need be and as santioned by those in authority.
In the same vein, Catholics protested the use of contraceptives in the United Kingdom, some years ago.
How come Christains dont see these issues! It only takes one thing to be a CHRISTAIN - 'Just believe in Jesus, as your lord! And takes more to be MUSLIM - Believe in Allah(One God), Believe in Angel, Believe in Other holy books, do not eat usury(Interest), Swine, Alchohol and be weary of innovations! All that muslims want is right to life. Please, let Muslims live. Right from my primary school, i have been told not to cheat, so that people (Christains) wont say, Muslims love to cheat. I got to secondary school same and up unto my University day, Muslims were cheats! The media and their allies (Christains) have worked so had to bring the muslims and their religion to the base.
What is our offence? That we are Muslims or that we are humans? That we pray in silence and not shout to disturb our neighbours? That we wash our hands and parts of our bodies 5times daily? That our women wear head cover (Hijab) and men long robe?
Why muslims? Why? Even when the common law say that 'Everyone has right to religion and conscience' A Muslim do not!
When a Muslim do it right, its never news, but at an error, its the talk of the day! Freedom of religion please!
Only if you (Christains) know how a Muslim feels, each time his religion is attacked, you would not hesitate to desist!
Imagine you (Muslim) introduce yourself to someone (Christain) and the next thind the lattar says is 'Are you serious, you a muslim? You cant be a Muslim? Its not bad though, i just dont like muslims?
I have heard these replies countless times and all i conclude is that Christains believe that they have right over the earth and everything in it.
Please, read more on 'Stress and Strain theory' and you will know, why some have opted for terrorism. Terrorism is NOT part of Islam and will never be!
And lastly, Muslims are been pushed to a maginal landscape, If he needs to get a job, remove your Hijab! Its not part of our corporate culture! But, i guess braid is!

Oh Allah, please, come to the aid of all Muslims of the world, for this religion(Islam) is your true and anointed religion. Help preserve, that it may endure ad infinitum! Amin

On the dichotomy between HND and B.Sc. Truth need be said. The two are not the same. Even, where an HND graduate is better than a B.sc, We assume the other way round.
People are paid based on their certification and position (Even in developed democracies)! A doctor will always earn more than a pharmacist. More so, if you dont want the discrimination to continue, why not take a degree!
On a final note, it is unargueable that most HND graduates have one or two negatives- either they cant speak good English, dress properly or relate in socially acceptable standards.
All of these and more account for the dichotomy and irreconciliable differences between B.Sc and HND graduates!

EducationThe Problem Of Buhari! by olaBanks(op): 12:15pm On Oct 20, 2015
Building unity and harmony amidst rifts and insecurity (Buhari) is usually a feat to be achieved by a people conscious leader. This is part of what Nigerians want from the incumbent president.
Insecurity in Nigeria is gradually breeding disunity and disharmony. With different ethic groups pointing accusing fingers at one another for this spate, with non of them willing to take the blame. None of them will!
Nigeria, a country conceived on unity and progress is now making serious efforts at keeping up to the tenets of unity and faith, peace cum progress. She must survive the ordeal.
The health of the Nigerian State is deteriorating and urgent (if necessary, cogent) steps must be taken to revive her. Her place and pride in the black continent must stand and stand ad infinitum!
A careful analysis of the Nigeria state is given, with a cue being taken from 'Sociology'.
Sociology is an empirical inquiry that is primarily concerned with groups, interactions, societies and humans that form these groups.
At another parlance, sociology look into the world of symbols, languages, arts and so on and try to understand and explain how these non materials come to influence man and his society. The scope of sociology is relatively wide.
In doing sociology of Nigeria, taking insecurity as a variable, one is keen to look at factors that had factored insecurity.
Some of these factors include, mass unemployment, dwindling economy, large scale corruption, hate, insincerity, religious extremism and bigotry, dearth of good leaders cum bad followers. All of these and many more attributes to the problem of insecurity in Nigeria.
A potent theory that will be used to explain insecurity in Nigeria is functionalism. As a theory in sociology, Functionalism view the society as an organism, that is made up of different interdependent parts, with each of these parts having special and allotted functions which they must perform for the survival of the organism.
In practice, this means that, in a sound economy where the youths are gainfully employed and other life supporting structures are present, the chances of such a state to experience anomalies such as insecurity and disunity is minimal. Conversely, in a country where there are strains in the economy, large scale corruption and religious extremism pervades, then insecurity and disunity looms.
It is advisable that a serious government (that of Nigeria) must address the problems of corruption, hate, unemployment, religious bigotry and so on. This, it is believed may solve the problems of insecurity and disunity.
However, It is cogent to stress here that addressing the problems of mass unemployment, corruption and so on, may not ultimately lead to having security, unity and harmony. And in fact, thinking like that, is erroneous.
It then suffice to say that, since there are some many factors that explains a phenomenon. So many techniques may be used in finding a solution to it.
More so, when the core cause(s)of a phenomenon is/are addressed properly, the desired results becomes feasible.
For instance, true foreign supports (technical and financial) for Nigeria against insecurity may bring insecurity to an end in no time, even while poverty and economic quagmire subsists.
At another parlance, cognizance must be given to the effects of non material aspects of our lives. For instance, there is a need for Nigeria to develop a language of national development. The Chinese, Indian and American states have developed languages with which they communicate their development. We need one in Nigeria. Sloganeering (Eko o ni baje or Nigeria o ni baje o) can be an effective tool in this campaign and may be very useful. It may work the miracle. At least, most of us still say 'Up NEPA' even when the corporation is defunct!
Let us have slogans for development and slogans against insecurity!
For me, development is paced by security and unity. They serve as fulcrum for wholesome wellbeing of a nation.
More so, development may not follow any prescribed format.
It may be unique and indigenous. I am just concerned about the results of development. Just as Mourinho, Chelsea and Chelsea fans do not care about the tactics of their soccer game, but rather about the three points. The same applies to development.
The development of Malaysia was brought about by a mono-economy that rested on the shoulders of palm oil, that of Singapore relied on science, medicine and technology, America's development was brought forth by the activities of few entrepreneurs, while that of Britain anchored on the effects of industrialization.
On what will the development of Nigeria be anchored?
Let us unite and work in harmony, for development is not only what we shall benefit but more!
