This 3-day intensive training course will combine providing a thorough, up-to-date understanding of the main FIDIC design-build construction forms of contract with a practical workshop on preparing and defending claims in FIDIC contracts.
Course Topics Covered

The course begins by introducing FIDIC and the FIDIC suite of contracts, including latest developments. We put the design-build forms in context, looking at the basic differences in risk allocation between the EPC/turnkey model of the Silver Book and the more traditional Yellow Book.
We follow with a detailed consideration of the individual clauses of the two Books, comparing and contrasting them with respect to such key issues as contractor responsibility for design, fitness for purpose, errors in Employer’s Requirements, and unforeseeable physical conditions.

Other topics to be covered include practical points about drafting particular conditions and the need to co-ordinate them with the general conditions; progress and programme – importance and requirements; delays and extensions of time; delay damages – penalties and liquidated damages; performance securities; plant, materials and workmanship; tests on and after completion; taking over; defects liability; the contract price; variations, adjustments and payment; termination and suspension; allocation of specific risks; force majeure.
For the claims workshop our legal expert and course director Dr William Godwin is joined by UK/European engineer and claims specialist Ewen Maclean to lead detailed case studies and group discussion on preparing and defending claims in FIDIC contracts. This will include the DAB process, amicable settlement and making and defending claims in arbitration (including such questions as choice of forum, evidence, use of experts).

2015 GE Scholarship Program is in Progress – How to Apply

I am glad to announce to the general public, especially Ghanaian 100 undergraduate students that GE Scholarship 2015/2016 still on progress.

GE a wholly-owned affiliate of General Electric Company has been engaged in infrastructure development in Ghana for several years, notably through the supply of technology, services and know-how, training initiatives, investment and supply chain development in the power, transportation and healthcare sectors

GE will provide a flat-rated scholarship support through the “the GE Scholarship”, for the benefit of certain University of Ghana Level 100 under-graduate students in the areas of BSc Applied Sciences during the years of 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (individually the “Scholarship Year”). Scholarships are renewable annually.

Eligible Candidates for GE Scholarship

You are eligible to apply if you:

Only Ghanaian are eligible to apply.
Only Level 100 student of any university in Ghana are eligible to apply.
An applicant must have obtained an aggregate of 15 or better at the WASSCE.

This is to announce to the general public that admission into Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ Initial License Preparatory Course
in November 2015 is in Progress.

The Air Force Institute of technology (AFIT) is a higher education institution engaged in imparting knowledge, skills and knowledge to students using specialized facilities and multi-disciplinary approach. AFIT is a centre of excellence for serious innovative research and development for the aerospace, aeronautical, aviation and allied industries/discipline.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently renewed the certification of AFIT as an Approved Training Organization (ATO). AFIT is set to commence the next Initial License Preparatory Course (ILPC) for candidates that are desirous of obtaining the NCAA’s Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ License.

The ILPC is a preparatory course specifically designed for military personnel and civilians in the field of aircraft maintenance. The course is meant to provide a good foundation for such individuals to enable them successfully sit for and pass NCAA examinations as a prelude to the granting of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ License.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into AFIT’s ILPC, which is scheduled to commence on 2 November 2015 for a duration of 24 weeks.

The available options are as follows:

Airframe and Power Plant Option.
Avionics Option.

AFIT’s ILPC – ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All Candidates seeking admission into AFIT’s ILPC are required must have:

A recognized aviation-training certificate with a minimum of TTG certificate (airframe and power plant or avionics), or
National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent with 10 years experience working on an aircraft, or
HND in Aircraft Engineering Technology (airframe and power plant or avionics), or
PGD in Aerospace Engineering (Airframe and Power Plant or Avionics).

National Service Youth Corps, NYSC Batch ‘B’ corps members online registration details. Requirements for registration/mobilization of graduates – 2015.

We are glad to announce to all prospective corps members, i.e. Nigerians who have graduated from Universities, Polytechnics and Monotechnics both at home and abroad that the NYSC On-line registration portal has been opened since Tuesday 8th September to Friday 9th October, 2015.

All prospective 2015 Batch ‘B’ corps member can now fill their register form online.
In order to ensure a seamless registration, prospective corps members are to note the following for strict compliance:

Prospective Corps members should ensure that they have valid and functional e-mail addresses that they can access and Nigerian (GSM) telephone numbers with which to register.
Locally trained prospective Corps members are expected to use correct JAMB and Matriculation numbers to register
For locally-trained graduates, only those whose names appear in the Senate/Academic Board Approved Result lists submitted by their Institutions will have access to the register on the NYSC portal.
Foreign-trained prospective corps members should ensure that their Institutions are accredited. Where in doubt, it is their responsibility to approach Federal Ministry of Education for verification. The letter of verification must be uploaded during registration.
Foreign-trained graduates from Ghana and Benin Republic must obtain letters of verification and upload same for mobilisation to be effective.
Those who graduated from Institutions outside Nigeria, (Foreign-trained graduates), are to visit the NYSC portal, register and upload the following documents:
West African School Certificate(WASC) (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent,
General Certificate of Education (GCE O’ Level) (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent,
NECO (with not less than 5 Credits at 2 sittings) or its equivalent
High School Diploma or its equivalent.
First Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) Certificate (Second Degree or Ph.D not necessary). Letter of attestation will not be accepted, Please.
Transcript of the first Degree or HND.
International travelling Passport showing data page and date of departure for the course of study. (Please note that you must present the originals of the above during verification at the Orientation camp).
Letters of verification for graduates of Institutions in Ghana, Benin Republic and any other Institution whose accreditation is in doubt.
It is the responsibility of the prospective corps members who studied in non-English speaking countries to get their Certificates and Transcripts translated into English language before uploading.
All graduates of Medicine, Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Science are expected to have their Certificates of Registration with Nigerian Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (NMDCN), Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria respectively and upload during registration. Payment receipts are not acceptable.
Unlike in the past, Foreign-trained graduates should not visit NYSC Headquarters, Abuja for verification of their documents. This exercise will now be done at the Orientation Camps. They should simply print their call-up letters on-line and report at the Orientation camps in their States of deployment, but should come to the camp with the original documents uploaded during registration for verification.
Anybody who presents any fake document will be demobilized and decamped. Also, anybody not available in camp for the verification will equally be demobilized.
Prospective corps members should ensure that Passport photographs used meet the following specifications:
Ensure your face (eyes, nose, ears, mouth and jaw) is fully shown without bending
Ensure the picture is centralized and fills the frame
Ensure the Photo background is white or off-white with no shadow.
On no account should prospective corps members register by PROXY. They should also remember the finger used for their biometric capturing as this will be used for data verification at the orientation camp. Those who cannot be verified with their biometric at the orientation camp will not be registered.
Only prospective corps members who want their call-up numbers sent to them through SMS and wish to PRINT their call-up letters on-line are expected to pay the sum of Three Thousand Naira (N3,000.00) (see NYSC Portal on how to make payment).
Prospective Corps members who do not want to pay the N3,000.00 have the option of going to their schools to collect their call-up numbers and call-up letters.
All prospective corps members who paid for the online registration during the 2014 Batch ‘C’ and 2015 Batch ‘A’ Mobilisation but were not mobilized need not pay again.
Married female prospective corps members (whether locally or foreign-trained) should upload copies of their marriage Certificates, evidence of Change of name, evidence to show their husbands’ place of domicile and copy of husbands’ driving licence or data page of International passport during registration.
Female prospective corps members are advised not to apply Tulips (Lalea de colorat) on their fingers as this will void their Biometric capturing during the verification in camp.
The orientation camp is highly regimented and not ideal for pregnant and nursing mothers. Those in these categories would be registered and released immediately they arrive at the camp. However, with effect from Batch ‘C’ 2016, pregnant and nursing mothers will not be registered at the Orientation Camp. They would wait until they are fit and ready to go through all the programmes of the NYSC without distractions.
Prospective corps members who have problems related to mobilization should go to the nearest NYSC Secretariats, see the Deployment and Relocation officer and lodge their complaints between 9th – 16th October, 2015 They can also call NYSC Help Desk Lines – 08089244741, 08064324023 or 09092989929.
All Part-time graduates are also expected to register online, even without JAMB numbers. Such graduates have the option of paying online and printing their Exclusion Letters or as usual, travelling to their Institutions for the Letters.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE THE PORTAL IS CLOSED ON FRIDAY, 9TH OCTOBER 2015, THERE WILL BE NO FURTHER REGISTRATION.

I am glad to inform the general public, especially all candidate that chose University of Abuja, UNIABUJA in the 2015/2016 JAMB exam and score the require cut off mark that the management of the institution had cancels the Post UTME screening exercise for the 2015/2016 academic session.

The spokesperson of the varsity, Waziri Garba made this known to newsmen the reason why management of University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) cancelled its post Unified Matriculations Tertiary Examination (UMTE) screening for students seeking admission into the institution for the 2015/ 2016 academic year..

Waziri Garba said that “initially we had about 16,000 candidates applying then after JAMB did their redistribution exercise we came down to about 6,000 and we need about 4,000 students only. So why do we conduct post UMTE, it will cost us more to conduct it for 6,000 people than 16,000 people.”

Then, the management of the varsity cancels the Post UTME because after Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) redistribution exercise, the institution was left with a small figure.

He said the varsity decided to do the admission on merit basis at the departmental level to admit their students.

According to him, the exercise is currently ongoing at the departmental level and will later go to central admission unit of the varsity who will compile everything before it is finally sent to JAMB.
