The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West has insisted that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) should first ask the Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji and the House of Representatives Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila to resign before the party can be taken seriously on its stand on corruption. The PDP said it was ridiculous that the ACN could claim that Ikuforiji, cannot be asked to resign while at the same clamouring for the sack of Dr. Doyin Okupe, senior special assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan over yet-to-be substantiated report of his investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged contract scam. PDP Zonal Publicity Secretary, Hon. Kayode Babade said in a statement issued in Ibadan today, that if anyone must be sacked or asked to resign from office, they are the Lagos Speaker, and the ACN Leader in the House of Representatives. The PDP said; “While we will not defend anyone for committing crime, but we must state that we will no longer sit back and allow these gang of hypocrites in the ACN to harass, blackmail or intimidate our members. “With the zeal and vigour they have been approaching this issue of Dr Okupe, it is obvious that there are more to it than meet the eyes and what we can conclude is that some people are afraid of the man Dr Doyin Okupe and are out to distract him. The PDP said what has the former Benue State Governor, Senator George Akume, who is now the ACN Leader in the senate done since 2007 that he left office on the alleged contract scam involving Dr. Okupe? Saying his raising the matter now puts a lot of question marks on the claim. |
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said there must be unity and peace for Nigeria to progress, “we must unite, for us to progress, there must have peace”. He stated this yesterday when Vice President Namadi Sambo led a delegation of Muslims resident in Abuja to pay Sallah homage to him at his residence after prayers to mark an end to the one month Ramadan and to celebrate Eid-el-Fitri. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to the implementation of the transformation Agenda, but stressed that peace and unity will play a key role in achieving that. “Today is a great day, it is a moment not just for muslims but all Nigerians to reflect on the unity of Nigeria. “What we are passing through as a nation can be overcome with prayers”, According to him, the Vice President and other government functionaries “are committed to the transformation process”. President Jonathan promised to build on the effort of the founding fathers for Nigeria to attain the enviable level. “This is a forum to tell Nigerians that we are one,” he said. The event started with prayers by the Chief Imam of National Mosque, Musa Mohammed. Earlier, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, commended President Jonathan for waiting patiently for the Muslim community in Abuja to pay the traditional homage instead of being in church. Sambo thanked Jonathan for moving Nigeria forward, praying for his good health and wisdom to transform Nigeria. Sambo recalled his visit to Saudi Arabia for Lesser Hajj, saying Nigerians have been praying for the President, peace and stability of the country. “We will continue to support you Mr President to deliver the transformation agenda. We assure you of our loyalty and we pray that this country will be transformed under your leadership,” he said. Notable personalities included the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bamanga Tukur, Senator Philip Aduda, who represented the Senate President, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade, Minister of State for Finance, Yerima Ngama, Minister of State for FCT, Olajumoke Akinjide, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Bello Isa, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko and Inspector- General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar. Others are former Speaker of House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, former Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Salamatu Ibrahim, former PDP Chairman, Amadu Ali and top presidential aides. |
THE Federal Government has instituted secret probes into the activities of some of the marketers involved in the ongoing strike around Abuja with the aim of prosecuting them for economic sabotage. “The government is looking into the books thoroughly. Some of those involved in the lock down of products during this festive period in Abuja may soon be called upon to answer questions,” a source hinted on Sunday. Apparently worried by incessant resort to industrial action by petroleum tanker drivers and other unions in the fuel supply chain, the Federal Government is said to have resolved to import no fewer than 1,000 tankers to aid transportation of petroleum products across the country. The government is also said to have taken delivery of 500 train cargoes also to be used to ferry petroleum products across the country. Sources in government confirmed on Sunday that the resort to strike by unions in the petroleum sector was becoming embarrassing to the government, adding that the administration was set to break the monopoly which the tanker drivers enjoy. According to a source, the Federal Ministry of Transport had already taken delivery of about 500 train cargoes which are to be dedicated to lifting petroleum products across the country. Last week, oil marketers, under the aegis of Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMA), Jetty and Petroleum Tank Farm Owners of Nigeria (JEPTFON) and Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) threatened to shut down their facilities nationwide if the government should continue to delay the payment of their outstanding subsidy entitlements. Though the Federal Ministry of Finance had explained that government had paid over N42 billion outstanding subsidy claims, while also stating that those being investigated for fraud were the only companies with outstanding claims, oil marketers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja had since embarked on strike . Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said in a statement last week that the strike was being pushed by indicted marketers and that government was being blackmailed. Sources in the administration, however, confirmed that the Federal Government was not taking things lying low. “The government has observed overtime the incessant recourse to strike by unions in the petroleum sector. Many of them forget that their activities tell directly on the lives of Nigerians and that the government is left to bear the blame for situations it did not create. It is for this reason that government has taken the decision to break the monopoly of tanker drivers and other chains of suppliers in the industry,” a source said. The source added that train cargoes for fuel delivery are already being received by the Ministry of Transport. “The first batch of the train cargoes has arrived. The Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar, has taken delivery of the cargoes. Fuel will be moved through the improved train services following the major repair works carried out on the nation’s railways,” another source said, adding the 500 cargoes are involved in the first batch. |
Those Accusing Me Of Corruption Are Unfair And Unrealistic - IBB Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has dismissed insinuations that his regime institutionalised corruption and declared that the scourge is more rampant today than in his time. The general, who is 71 today, was speaking to reporters at an interactive session on the eve of his birthday in his Hilltop residence in Minna yesterday. “Some people said I institutionalised corruption but I remember I removed a governor for stealing N300,000, but now you cannot remove them even for stealing N3 billion,” the general remarked, noting that those still accusing him of alleged corruption 22 years after he left office were neither realistic nor fair to him. http://www.naijapundit.com/news/those-accusing-me-of-corruption-are-unfair-and-unrealistic-ibb |

The Kano Emirate Council announced on Wednesday that it would not observe the Durbah activities during this year’s Eid-el-Fitr coming up this weekend. Media learnt that this would be the first time the Sallah Durbah would be cancelled in its over 700 years history. Traditional Sallah Durbah and other activities have been practised in Kano since the advent of Islam to the ancient city. A source close to the Emirate council told our correspondent that the suspension of all traditional Hawan Sallah activities was done mainly because of the prevailing security situation in the state. However, the council said it was due to the health condition of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, who is the custodian of the tradition of the people of the state. A senior councillor in the emirate, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, on Wednesday briefed newsmen in Kano after the emir’s meetings with all the district heads of the Emirate council, including the Dan Majen Kano, Mallam Lamido Sanusi. He said, “The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has directed me to inform all district heads and all other traditional rulers that traditional Sallah activities have been cancelled and everybody should stay indoor to celebrate the Sallah.’’ He said already, the council had taken steps to ensure that the Sallah was celebrated without any problem. “The emir will only attend the Eid prayer on Sallah day,” he said. Sanusi, who also holds the traditional title of Wamban Kano, added, “All other celebrations during Sallah from Sallah homage, visit to the state governor and the traditional Hawan Nassarawa where he interfaces, with his subjects were cancelled in view of the health condition of the Emir”. It would be recalled that the Emir had recently undergone medical treatment in the United Kingdom from where he returned about five weeks ago. Sanusi urged the people to pray for improved health of the royal father and for continuous peace in the state and the country. |

‘Northerners not schemed out of Presidential scholarship’ - NUC Candidates shortlisted to sit for the Presidential Special Scholarship Scheme for Innovation and Development (PRESSID) aptitude test were selected based on their eligibility and not in favour of any particular geopolitical zone, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Professor Julius Okojie has said. Okojie, who monitored the aptitude test which held in Abuja yesterday, told journalists that the claim by the Arewa Consultative Forum that northerners were deliberately excluded from the list was untrue as the selection process was computer based. Okojie said the members of the committee overseeing the project consisted of one professor who made first class from each geo-political zone and representation from the Federal ministries of Education, Women Affairs, Science and Technology. He said, “Some states in the south did not also have students. It was a computer based assessment it just selected those who had first class irrespective of the CGPA. It would be interesting to know how many people applied from such places. Don’t forget in the North once a student has a first class he is almost always on scholarship. If you didn’t apply you cannot be shortlisted and if you didn’t have a first class you won’t be taken.” A list of shortlisted candidates by states of origin which was made available to media showed that Yobe, Sokoto and FCT did not have candidates. While states like Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Plateau and Taraba had only one candidate each. However, states like Bayelsa and Cross River in the South-south had two candidates shortlisted. Okojie said out of the 432 students shortlisted for the aptitude test, Federal Government would select and sponsor 100 for postgraduate studies in 25 top universities in the world. He said provision has been made to ensure that 2% of the candidates are the physically challenged. The students with specialization in sciences are expected to work as academic staff in any public university or research institute for a minimum period of five years upon completion of their studies. http://www.naijapundit.com/news/northerners-not-schemed-out-of-presidential-scholarship-nuc |

Call for the sack of the newly appointed Senior Special Assistant to GEJ on Public Affairs Dr. Doyin OKUPE by ACN, and CPC has continued to generate mix reaction. While some analysts argue that OKUPE is the best man for the job and that he has the experience and literally power to contend with the opposition, some see his introduction into the Cabinet as wrong. It would be recalled that OKUPE recently attacked Elrufai and Bakare over call for GEJ's resignation. This candid reaction didn't go down well with the ACN and CPC, that is why they want him sacked. The question for Nairalanders is, do you support OKUPE's sack? |
There were indications on Monday that crisis might have engulfed the Northern Christian Association of Nigerian over the call on President Goodluck Jonathan to resign. The assocation had on Sunday called on the President to resign for saying he could not crush the Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The president reportedly said, “They are our siblings and you cannot set the army to wipe out your family”. The Northern CAN had expressed shock and disbelief at the President’s statement despite that the sect had killed several innocent Nigerians, particularly Christians, wondering why his administration could not descend on the sect. The spokesman for the body, Mr. Sunday Oibe, had said, “Jonathan has failed us Christians, he has failed Nigerians and he should resign as president because by this statement, it is very clear that he is not capable of handling the danger posed by the Boko Haram insurgency.” Our correspondent learnt that the Northern CAN spokesman had come under fire over the statement credited to him. A source within the leadership of the organisation, who would not want his names in print, told our correspondent on the telephone that “when I called the young man, he said he didn’t mean that our president should resign. We in the Northern CAN would not want to do anything that will cause crisis for President Goodluck Jonathan.” However, Special Adviser to Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State on Religious Matters, Reverend Joseph Hayab, on Monday warned religious leaders across the country against overheating the nation’s polity with inflammatory statement that could cause disaffection in the country. Hayab, in a statement in Kaduna on Monday, said the statement urging the President to resign was capable of inciting “Northerners and especially Christians against the Jonathan Administration,” warning that religious leaders must not overheat the Nigerian polity. The governor’s aide, a former Secretary-General of the Kaduna CAN, said, as a former Secretary of CAN Kaduna State and also a former PRO of CAN 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, added, “Northern CAN has no quarrel with the statement from President Jonathan that it would not be the preference of the Federal Government to send in soldiers to wipe out Boko Haram for the simple reason that Boko Haram are faceless and when soldiers are sent in to wipe out a faceless group it is the innocent that suffers.” |
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chair Prof. Attahiru Jega has technically ruled out electronic voting in the 2015 elections. He said permanent voter cards would soon be distributed. He also hinted of a restructuring of the operations of the election umpire. Jega rated the conduct of Edo State governorship election very high and promised fairness in the October 20 governorship election in Ondo State. He also spoke on a wide range of issues in this interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Permanent voter’s card coming soon “As you know we did biometric data registration; before the end of this year, we will start issuing the permanent voter cards and these permanent cards that we are going to issue are chip-based, just like many of our own bank cards. “So they carry all the information on a microchip which is embedded in the card of the voter. “So what we believe we can achieve at the minimum by 2015, is that we can achieve 100 per cent authentication at the polling units.’’ “If a voter comes to the polling unit and brings out his or her card, we will be able to determine 100 per cent whether he is the legitimate holder of the card. “So the issues of people using other people’s cards to go and vote; the issues of stealing cards or even buying cards will be squarely dealt with and that, we believe we can achieve, God willing by 2015. “We already have all the data in our database; we are now going to issue the permanent voter cards; all we need to do between now and 2015 is to buy what I call card readers in which we will store all the information,’’ Jega said. The INEC chair explained further that card readers would be available in all the polling units to ascertain the legitimacy of the holder. Jega also said that the process of identifying valid owners of the card would go a long way in terms of improving the credibility and the transparency of the electoral process. Electronic voting in 2015 “Technically, there is no proposal by INEC that it should be adopted in 2015. “Right now, if we are to introduce electronic voting in this country, we have to do a lot of piloting. “We have to do a lot of sampling of existing machines right now, because of that prohibition, we can’t even attempt to do it. “Now, if that is done in good time, and we are able to explore the possibility and it seems feasible, then obviously at that time we will tell Nigerians that it is feasible, and then maybe we should try it. “But right now, we haven’t gotten to that stage; right now what we want is the removal of a major hindrance for INEC to even begin to explore the possibility of electronic voting. “But what INEC is trying to do and then we are really again improving the use of technology in elections is that as you know we did biometric data registration.’’ http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/news/57451-electronic-voting-not-likely-in-2015-says-jega.html |
Where is the $620,000 bribe collected by House of Representatives member Farouk Lawan from businessman Femi Otedola? The puzzle remained unresolved at the weekend, the government is set to file charges against the lawmaker. Lawan was the chairman of the House adhoc committee on fuel subsidy probe. Also to be charged is the clerk of the committee, Mr. Borniface Emenalo. The trial of the suspects may start without the cash as the government is bent on going ahead with the arraignment in the light of the weight of evidence at its disposal. The Federal Government may file the charges this week, barring last-minute hitches. The Anti-Corruption Network yesterday asked the government to also arraign Otedola, who said he handed Lawan the cash in a sting operation arraigned by security agents. Lawan accepted collecting the money but refused to surrender it, saying it is proof of Otedola’s pressure on him to remove the oil magnet’s company from the list of those indicted in the subsidy probe. According to a source, the Special Task Force (STF) which investigated the case submitted its report to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), without any trace of the bribe cash. The source, however, claimed that “the evidence the police made available to the AGF were enough to sustain the prosecution of the suspects”. The source added: “The STF team tried to locate the bribe sum, which is vital to the trial of the suspects, but it could not because of vested interests in the matter. This is a high-profile case with high-profile intrigues. “But hope is not lost as there are other evidence ancillary to the fact that the bribe was given and taken. “The prosecution may have to rely on some clips and statements made on oath by some of those interrogated. The STF did a good job and the investigation was far-reaching although without the bribe cash. “With this investigation, you will appreciate that the Police did a thorough job.” Asked if the police could determine whether the bribery was a sting operation or not, the source added: “A sister agency was involved and we presented the raw facts to the AGF which I cannot divulge. “There are so many angles to this case; you have to wait for the trial to begin.” A source said yesterday: “All hands are on deck to file charges against Lawan and Emenalo, pending the return of the lawmaker from the lesser Hajj. “The two suspects may be arraigned before a high court by the government prosecutor this week.” A source in the defence team said: “We are ready for the trial, let them go and file charges.” Another source said: “As long as a sting operation could not be established by the police, the whole case will become flat.” The Executive Secretary of Anti-Corruption Network, Mr. Dino Melaye, said the government should put Otedola on trial for the court to decide the guilty. Melaye, a former member of the House of Representatives, said: “From what we have seen and heard, they have exempted the name of Mr. Femi Otedola from the list of those to be prosecuted. “We are insisting that the three actors in the bribery saga (Otedola, Lawan and Emenalo) should be put on trial. The government should let the court determine whoever is guilty. “Anything short of that, we are going to mobilise Nigerians against the trial of Lawan and Emenalo.” Responding to a question, Melaye said the Network will resist plans to make Otedola a witness because “from police findings, they cannot call it a sting operation for lack of evidence.” “If the government does not prosecute Otedola, it would amount to an attempt to water-down the case and acquit him. “Nigerians are interested in this matter. Let the three suspects face trial and the proceedings of the court will enable them to have full insight into what transpired. The choice of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), as counsel for the state is completely unacceptable because he is the one standing in defence of ex-Speaker Dimeji Bankole and a Judge in the case of an alleged N6billion fraud. “So, there is actually a conflict of interest. A man who is standing against the state cannot at the same time prosecute for the state. You cannot approbate and reprobate at the same time. And public interest should be considered in this matter.” Melaye said: “We will stage a protest. We have a stake in this matter.” But a source said: “The truth of the matter is that Chief Awomolo withdrew from the defence team of the former Speaker. The Network should have done its homework very well. “Also, Awomolo has been handling landmark cases for the Federal Government, including being a counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He has a reputation that no one can tarnish at all.” |
Joint Task Force said on Sunday it killed 20 suspected Boko Haram members in a shootout as they raided an Islamist hideout in Maiduguri. One soldier was also killed in the attack. Security forces had intelligence that some members of the group were holding a gathering at a location in Maiduguri, said Colonel Victor Ebhaleme, field operations officer of the military and police mixed Joint Task Force in Borno. “When we approached the venue of their meeting point, the terrorists opened fire on the JTF, which led to the killing of 20 terrorists while we lost one soldier and two others sustained injury,” Reuters quoted him as saying. Boko Haram did not comment and it was not possible to independently confirm the report. On Saturday, Nigerian security forces discovered a bomb-making factory in Kano. Meanwhile, gun battle between the JTF and suspected Boko Haram members resumed on Sunday in Damaturu the Yobe state capital . Yobe State Commissioner of Police Patrick Egbuniwe said the gun battle began when the JTF were on patrol of Bundigari- Powari areas of Damaturu. |
Against the backdrop of the alleged killing of Nigerians by the Cameroon gendarmes and the threat by the displaced Bakassi people to reclaim the ceded oil-rich island from the Republic of Cameroon, the House of Representatives Committee on Treaty and Agreement has appealed to the displaced people to maintain peace, assuring that the House would do everything possible to protect Nigerians. Nigeria had signed a Green Tree Agreement with Cameroon in 2006 after the International Court of Justice sitting in the Hague, Netherland had ruled in 2002 that Bakassi Peninsula belong to Cameroon, but the National Assembly has not ratified the agreement. But the Bakassi indigenes through its Paramount Ruler, His Royal Majesty, Etinyin Etim Okon Edet said that the only option for the people was to go back to their ancestral land and take their destiny in their hands. “The process is one and we are going back to our area, we will take it by any means possible, in the days of old our fore-fathers used to have traditional means, we don’t have any problem with Nigeria our problem is with the cameroun, they must leave our area and they are going to leave very soon. We have been assured that they will leave. Nigeria can go and leave us,” he said. The House of Representatives Committee led by its chairman, Hon. Yacob Alebiousu Bush, while meeting with Bakassi Stakeholders at the Cross River State Council of Chiefs chambers, Calabar said that nobody would feel the pains of displacement more than the people that were affected. Bush accompanied by the member representing Bakassi/Calabar South/Akpabuyo federal constituency, Hon. Esien Ayi, assured the people that there were some provisions in the agreement that have given them the right to once again look into it. |
The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to cast their burdens unto God as Nigeria will surely go higher. Adeboye made the call on Friday night in a sermon at the 60th Annual Convention of the Church held at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the week long event began on Monday with the theme: “Come up Higher.” The cleric said that “Come up Higher” could be an invitation or a command and urged Nigerians to “be willing to get to the top and be willing to obey and have faith in the God.” He added, “Nigerians should have the power to deal with the forces that can bring us down. “Come up Higher can be an invitation or a command from somebody that is higher than you, the person must have the ability to help you climb higher. “If we must get to the top, we must have faith in God, who is the God of all flesh, will never leave us or forsake us.” The pastor said that during his 70th birthday anniversary, he asked God to give 70,000 women the fruit of the womb “and 68 babies were delivered during the weeklong convention, with 34 boys and 34 girls.” The general overseer said that the RCCG had established branches in 160 countries, adding that many more would be set up in other countries. “Our aim is for the church to be in all countries of the world,” he said. |
THE leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and its counterpart in the opposition, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) are increasingly consolidating on their plans for merger ahead of the 2015 election, the two parties having found solace in the neighbouring Ghana, as a new meeting place. An indication to this effect played out weekend when some members of ACN, led by Senator Bola Tinubu and the CPC chieftains led by General Muhammadu Buhari, stormed Ghana as a team, for the final rites of former Ghanaian President, John Atta Mills, on Friday. Buhari had earlier joined Tinubu in his private residence in Lagos at the close of this week, to hold discussions with him, where as the two reportedly resolved to make the Ghana trip in company, while their respective aides and followers were equally in tow. Three South-West governors accompanied Tinubu to Ghana, an indication that the two leaders would after the burial ceremonies take some hours off to advance on their talks on consolidating the merger plans before finally returning to Nigeria. Some members of the two parties, according to findings, had before now, been meeting in Ghana to draw strategies on 2015 build-up amid reports that even late President Mills had been playing host to key Nigerian politicians from the opposition camp before his death. The thawed relationship between Senator Tinubu and Mills had been fingered as the elixir for both ACN and CPC to consolidate on their merger plans since their leaders were said to have received encouragement from the deceased, who had laid the basis for building a modern Ghana. There had been reports that both ACN and CPC had planned a joint convention earlier scheduled to hold this month, whereas the jamboree had to be shifted tentatively till November, August being a month of Ramadan. The postponement of the joint conference was said to be necessary to gain more time for further consultation on the merger plans by the two parties. However, both Tinubu and Buhari, according to party members, have been keeping the details of their discussions and plans close to their chests. The ACN and CPC were said to be treading cautiously on their merger plan as a means of avoiding the pitfalls of the past when initial plans between them to forge a common front against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) collapsed at the most crucial time. |
"We want to work with you and we will be by your side as you make the reforms and take the tough decisions that are necessary". The United States Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton has charged President Goodluck Jonathan to be bold and take the tough decisions that are necessary to tackle the spate of insecurity in Nigeria. Clinton who arrived the presidential villa at 3:50pm amidst tight United States security accompanying her convoy, said doing so will attract the support of the US in the fight against Boko Haram. Newsmen gathered that Clinton warned President Jonathan that Nigerian may not succeed to crush Boko Haram if it depends on military approach and conventional warfare only. "We appreciate that you know how committed United States and the Obama Administration is to our partnership with your country. We consider it absolutely vital to our bi-National commission which as you have mentioned has helped us to expand and deepen our cooperation on full range of issues. "We were also very supportive of anti-corruption reform efforts, more transparency in the work that you and your team are also championing because we really believe that the future for Nigeria is limitless but the most important task that you face, as you have said, is making sure that there are better opportunities for all Nigerians, South, East, West, every young boy and girl to have chance to fulfil his God given potential". Earlier, President Jonathan had thanked Clinton for raising the relationship between Nigeria and America to a very high level that had never been reached for quite some time. Can we comfortably say that the tough decision Clinton recommends include arresting Boko Haram sponsors and Northern leaders that are linked to the Islamic Sects? Nairalanders, Recommend tough decisions for GEJ please! |

Yesterday in Abuja, Arewa Elder called on GEJ to defuse political tension in the country by renouncing any intention he might have to stand for re-election in 2015. Speaking onbehalf of ACF, Alhaji Ahmed Joda who served as permanent secretary in the 1970s, advised the President to publicly announce that he won’t go for it so as to dampen political tension created by the suspense over his candidacy.C “(The) President should defuse the present political tension that now pervades the country. This should begin with his renouncing any intention he may have of contesting the 2015 elections and devoting his entire time, energy and the resources of the country in order to give Nigeria a credible and acceptable Constitution; a free, transparent and fair election,” he said in a statement in Abuja. Jona, a former chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission during the tenure of then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, said also that Jonathan “should restructure his cabinet; appoint more credible people; complete his present mandate to continue the work of governing the country to preside over a free, fair and transparent general election in 2015 and step aside" It is apparent that the only tension that has overwhelmed Nigerians is the fear of being attacked by Boko Haram. If Arewa consultative forum is calling for the withdrawal of GEJ's candidacy come 2015, will they now call their boys to order? So ACF IS BEHIND BOKO HARAM? GEJ ALL THE WAY. Power has been an enduring wahala, if he settles it, then he is qualified for third term |
Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi was reported to have recently abandoned his official duties to sympathize with his wife who was in a bad mood after her precious diamond necklace was stolen. According to a report culled from the News of the People magazine, the highly must respected First Lady is said to be in control of the affairs of the state, and no proposal or contract could get approved without her consent. Read the full excerpt of the magazine report below. His Excellency, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi was absent at the State’s exco meeting. Shortly after the meeting, apparently worried members called at his residence to inquire what could have gone wrong. The bespectacled governor simply told his kitchen cabinet members that he was not in the very best of mood; hence his absence at his meeting. Obviously, Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Pacesetter state, Florence Ajimobi was not in a good mood after her diamond necklace had allegedly been stolen, and her husband had to show concern by staying back to empathize with her. That Florence wields so much power in Oyo state might be stating the obvious. Aside domestic affairs, her staying power has equally extended to how things are done in the state and it’s very obvious to those in the game. For instance, the appointment of caretaker members for the Local governments in the state last year, had a greater input of the First Lady. A source said, “even if a Local government caretaker chairman is irresponsible to the people, if such chairman is ‘responsible’ to the First Lady, there is no problem”. It would be recalled that recently, this same Ajimobi sponsored his wife and the wives of all his Assembly members and Commissioners to an expensive trip in UK, to learn how to support their husbands.
