Christianity EtcRe: Bakare: Only Rich Men Should Rule by Olanlere11(op): 4:43pm On Aug 07, 2012
Skii: [size=11pt
“When the shoeless takes over, he does clueless things. When such men of low estate find themselves in power, terrible things begin to happen.” He added, “It is the timidity of the inferior that prods them to cover up. Deep rivers flow in majestic silence.”

Shay this is what Bakare said that you are deducing he meant Nigeria is only governable by the rich?

For a start, what or who do you define as poor?

Because in truth, the word poor is relative and it depends on the context in which it is being used. Either way, it means not having or lacking in…but not having or lacking in what?

You want to tell me that someone who is very intelligent and highly intellectual is poor? Or someone who is highly talented in art, music or any other skill is poor? Certainly not!!

It is only in Nigeria today, that being poor generally refers to the lack of material things (whether you agree or not) and this is a pity. But I really cannot blame those who think this way. Years of “suffering” brought about by the terrible things (such as corruption and embezzling of state funds MEANT FOR ALL) that happened when such men of low estate found themselves in power and their celebration has brought upon them this mind-set.

These terrible things that have been perpetrated over the years and in all corners of power (not just with Jonathan or the FG) have eroded all the moral and value systems of our society to the point that the real things that should describe wealth or richness that ought to be rewarded such as sound character, honesty, accountability and STANDING UP AGAINST THE INJUSTICE AND PERVERSION OF POWER are now being discredited or ignored. It is now the other way round…

SUCH men (and not everybody) of Low estate as is being referred to here is the classifying or umbrella term for those who are not necessarily lacking in material things but are POOR (lacking or not having) in morals, having no shame or character, lacking self-control and self-discipline and the likes!!

Bode George, James Ibori, Alameiseigha (however his name is spelt, the one that dressed like a woman to evade identification at the airport) are examples of men of LOW ESTATE!![/size]
Any English speaker will tell u in clear terms that men of low estate as used by ur Precious Pastor means the proletariates as Karl Marx would call them. Bakare used low estate synonymously with shoeless. The shoeless here refers to GEJ'S political campaign slogan. Haba Skii, why are you denying the obvious. Is it because you come from a wealthy background? Does the world for the rich not have provision for the poor like us? is leadership skills an exclusive reserve of the high estate? Should we stop going to school, or stop developing ourselves just because we are of low estate or shoeless? If Bakare wanted to say moral decay, not morally upright, ethically backward, he knew the appropriate words to use. He meant to abuse the poor, he wanted to restrict us to followership, he wanted to distinguish between the rich and poor. Must a man of God segregate? Tell him that We the poor now know his agenda and will resist him with all our might.

Skii: Poster HOW ON EARTH WOULD YOU DRAW SUCH A CONCLUSION FROM BAKARE'S STATEMENT?? shocked shocked

I strongly disagree and I crave the indulgence of the MODs to do something about this thread!! Please change this header

BAKARE DIDNT SAY ONLY RICH MEN SHOULD RULE!! STOP IT!!

It beats my imagination why people can't read between lines, or draw a simple analysis and sieve out facts. Bakare said when shoeless people, or people of low estate rule, terrible things begin to happen. This implies that for terrible things not to happen, only rich men should rule. Or what is the meaning of shoeless, or men of low estate? Pls, the defenders of Bakare are those that are rich, we the poor must rise up and defend our rights. Nigeria belongs to all of us, period.
Christianity EtcBakare: Only Rich Men Should Rule by Olanlere11(op): 4:06pm On Aug 06, 2012
Pastor Tunde Bakare in his most recent teaching attributed Nigeria's problems to the fact that we have a poor man in power. In a series of declamations, Mr. Bakare asserted, “When the shoeless takes over, he does clueless things. When such men of low estate find themselves in power, terrible things begin to happen.” He added, “It is the timidity of the inferior that prods them to cover up. Deep rivers flow in silence.
If Bakare's teaching is anything to go by, what then is the fate of an average Nigerian, who has taken up education to change his social status? Is leadership an exclusive reserve of the rich? Is the prevailing insecurity orchestrated by the rich to humiliate the poor? Is it fair that a man of God who is suppose to preach equality now makes distinction between the rich and poor? It must be noted that shirts dont commit crime. These suspects have openly confessed, so whether they wear thesame shirt or not it's irrelevant. Maybe they have uniforms made for suspects in custody, what if these are some of the Uniforms. Moreover, the suspects are not identical to warrant suspicion. Instead of dwelling on nothing, lets support the security agencies by reporting and providing info, so that they can serve us better.

The move for impeachment was based on faulty ground and limited information. The 2012 budget is just 4months into its execution. So achieving 100% by september is unattainable. It means you finish the budget before the year ends. Now that clarification has been made, we hope the legislators will settle down to work and stop hammering on disbursement. We want to see projects on ground.

They don't have and excuse. The move has selfish motives and must be rejected.
PoliticsCPC Faults Pdp’s Call For Gbajabiamila’s Resignation by Olanlere11(op): 9:08am On Aug 03, 2012
Congress for Progressive Change has described as “illogical”, the call by the Peoples Democratic Party, South-West, for the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, to resign.

Spokesman for the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, in a statement on Thursday, faulted the resignation call over the lawmaker’s indictment by Georgia Bar Disciplinary Board for professional misconduct.

He wondered why the call came on the heels of a motion by Gbajabiamila for the commencement of impeachment proceedings on President Good-luck Jonathan should he fail to implement the 2012 budget by September.

According to him, the PDP believes that the messenger of a good message must be smeared and vanquished even if there is no justifiable basis of it.

He said, “True, Mr. Gbajabiamila was indicted for a professional misdemeanor and had received a just comeuppance for the act.

“True, the Nigerian Constitution stipulates a 10-year ban for anybody in the polity to hold political office after criminal conviction by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

He, however, said the controversy over the impeachment and the call for Gbajabiamila’s resignation had thrown up some questions.

Fashakin said, “Is this call by the PDP the natural consequence of Gbajabiamila ‘s effrontery in demanding for the impeachment of President Good-luck Jonathan for non-implementation of the budget? “Was Gbajabiamila convicted by a Court of Law?
“Is every professional indictment coterminous with criminal conviction? “Is this PDP’s call an attempt in extirpating the hope of ensuring scrupulous implementation of the 2012 budget?” This defense coming from the CPC keeps a rational mind wondering if the reported alliance has been sealed. But is this defense morally right?

PoliticsJonathan’s Aide Is Surety For Subsidy Suspect by Olanlere11(op): 9:17am On Aug 02, 2012
A Presidential aide is standing surety for one of the oil marketers on trial for alleged fuel subsidy fraud before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja.
Mrs. Mariam Ali, Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter-governmental Relations, is standing surety for Mr. Christian Taylor, who claims to be a Sierra Leonean.
Mrs. Ali is the wife of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Dr. Ahmadu Ali.
Ali’s son, Mamman, is also among the suspects on trial for alleged N3billion subsidy scam.
Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo on July 26 granted bail to Taylor and other co-defendants, including Mamman, in the sum of N20million each and two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties, the court said, must be his blood relation with landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
But Taylor, through his counsel, Mr. Toyin Pinheiro (SAN), on July 30, applied for a variation of the bail conditions.
Taylor, along with Mamman Ali and Nasaman Oil Services, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining by false pretence.
They were alleged to have fraudulently obtained  N4,461,136,798.94 from the Federal Government, purporting it to be payment under Petroleum Support Fund as subsidy for the purported importation of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) from Europe to Nigeria.
At the resumed sitting yesterday, counsel to Taylor, Mr. Kolade Obafemi, urged the court to accept “a reputable and responsible Nigerian in place of a blood relation” as surety.
Obafemi argued that Mrs. Ali is ready to stand surety for Taylor and will use her landed property in Surulere, Lagos, as part of the bail bond.
Mr. Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), for the prosecution, queried the existence of Mrs. Ali, pointing out that she had not made any deposition before the court.
What does the involvement of the presidents aides portends?
PoliticsRe: Did El-rufai Sponsor The Attack On VP Sambo's House? by Olanlere11: 4:26pm On Aug 01, 2012
If El Rufai can sponsor a paper written by Victoria Ohaeri on his Facebook, condemning demolition of Boko Haram houses used for bomb factory, then he is a suspect. The paper says: study established that mere suspicion of harboring the sect members have consistently been used to justify arson and the habitual burning of private residences, properties and businesses of citizens. Across the northern states of Borno, Kano, Plateau and Yobe, buildings where improvised explosive devises (IEDs) and other dangerous weapons were allegedly found have been demolished following violent military raids. These types of demolitions are generally, extremely violent, bloody, unplanned and carried out with utmost disregard for the due process of law and the human rights of the occupiers, regardless of their status as indigenous peoples. They are usually preceded by gun battles – lasting for hours – between militant groups and Nigeria’s security operatives. They happen very instantaneously, without prior warning and often during the night, giving the inhabitants little or no time to evacuate their properties. No particular procedure is followed to determine the actual owners of the buildings or to establish the complicity of such house owners in terrorist activities.

PoliticsBoko Haram: Become A Moslem Or..... by Olanlere11(op):
Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for recent attacks, including the attack at Sambo's House. They have also maintained that Christians must convert or ... “We want to stress that in our struggle, we only kill government functionaries, security agents, Christians and anyone who pretends to be a Muslim but goes behind to assist security agents to arrest us,” he warned.
“All praises go to Almighty Allah. This is a very important message from the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Lidda’awati Wal Jihad. We wish to extend our profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for giving us the opportunity to fulfill the promise we made on launching spontaneous attacks in Sokoto. “We have reasons for all our activities and we only kill those who wronged us. We attacked Sokoto because many of our brethren have been incarcerated there.

“We are gladdened by the successes we recorded at the office of the AIG in Marina and the police divisional office at Unguwan Rogo as well as the police station at Arkila.

“We wish to reiterate that our crusade is not for personal gain; it is meant to ensure the establishment of an Islamic state by liberating all Muslims from the excesses of the infidels.  “We strongly believe that Almighty Allah will reward us with his famous paradise in the hereafter as he rightly said in Chapter 9, Verse 111 of the Holy Qur’an.

“We wish to strongly warn people to desist from collaborating with security agents. The fact is that we are the warriors of the Almighty and even the security forces are finding it difficult to contain our activities.

“We want to stress that in our struggle, we only kill government functionaries, security agents, Christians and anyone who pretends to be a Muslim but engages in assisting security agents to arrest us.

“We are also aware of the activities of some women who have been recruited to spy on us. This is a final warning to all of them. By God, whenever we catch any woman spying on us, we would slaughter her like ram.

“We are responsible for the attacks in Bauchi and at the residence of Namadi Sambo in Zaria as well as the one in Damaturu where we bombed a patrol vehicle. “We equally dealt a big blow on JTF operatives in Maiduguri who, out of frustration, went back and killed innocent and defenseless citizens.

“It is erroneous to say that we are killing Muslims. We don’t kill innocent Muslims. The fact and the bottom line of our struggle is to set the Muslims free from enslavement. We only kill the unbelievers.”
Should we now Islamize Nigeria to live in peace?
PoliticsOhanaeze Hails Jonathan For NIMASA Appointment by Olanlere11(op): 8:47am On Jul 31, 2012
The leadership of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo yesterday lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for appointing a chieftain of the Igbo apex body into the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)

The body described the appointment of Nwabueze Obi, the President of the Abuja Branch of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo and Vice President of Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo Presidents in Diaspora as the Executive Director (ED) Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services as laudable.

A statement by the leadership of Ohanaeze Presidents in Diaspora signed by the President, Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, Lagos Branch and President, Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo in diaspora, Chief Oliver Akubueze and Chief George Iheonunekwu, secretary, described Obi’s appointment as credible and worthy.

The statement reads in part: “It is a welcome development that Mr. President took the wise decision of getting a credible person of impeccable character to do the job, and that is commendable.

“We in the Ohanaeze leadership and on behalf of the entire Igbo hail Mr. President for this noble step.

“We have known Obi and his tested leadership qualities.

“He has led people into positive actions and a great motivator of men and resources.

“He has proven over time in his legal career spanning over 20 years, individual life and in the leadership of Ohanaeze that he has what it takes to help in moving the nation forward.

“With such appointment, it has become manifest that Mr. President has intensified his transformation agenda.”

The Ohanaeze leadership noted that it has no doubt that Obi would justify the appointment and his presence in NIMASA together with the others would add immense value to the operations of the agency.
PoliticsPlanned Demolition Of 19 Abuja Towns Creates Panic by Olanlere11(op): 8:29am On Jul 31, 2012
Planned demolition of houses in 19 satellite town of the Federal Capital Territory has created panic among Abuja residents.

Already, the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council has marked structures to be pulled down in Mpape near highbrow Maitama area.

Other settlements to be affected are Idu, Karmo, Dape, Tasha, Gwagwa, Saburi, Zauda, Jahi and Gishiri.

The rest are Mabushi, Kuchigoro, Chika, Aleita, Piwoyi, Lugbe, Pyakassa, Tudun -Wada, Dei-Dei and Guzape.

Our correspondent learnt that a majority of the owners of the property had been running around for alternative accommodation before the arrival of the demolition teams.

It was learnt that residents, whose houses were marked for demolition at Mpape, had been searching for accommodation at Kubwa, Dutse Alhaji, Gwarimpa.

The Public Relations Officer, AMMC, Mrs. Josie Mudasiru, told our correspondent on Monday that the demolition would affect property without genuine land allocation documents and building approvals.

She explained that the demolition would be carried out in the 19 communities as part of measures to rid the FCT of illegal structures.

Mudasiru said, “We have sensitised the affected communities about the structures that will be affected during the exercise. All buildings on illegally acquired land and every structure without legal building approval/document will be pulled down.”

Meanwhile, the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre has flayed the FCT Administration over the planned demolition describing it as insensitive and inhuman.

In his word, " I was sanctioned by the Georgia Bar Disciplinary Board for professional misconduct and negligence due to unfortunate ethical violation that took place about 10 years ago. There are no ifs, buts and ands about it". Though the crook attempted to repair his battered image by alluding to his paralegal, rational beings like us who can not be deceived by fairy tales know it when a man battles for survival. This is an attribute of a sinking man looking for cover, unfortunately GBAJABIAMILA has not mentioned d name of d paralegal he claims eloped wt d money, neither did he report d matter to d court during trail. PoliticsTrial Of Subsidy Thieves Begins Today by Olanlere11(op): 11:24am On Jul 25, 2012
The much awaited trial of suspected oil subsidy thieves will begin today in Lagos. The EFCC revealed that the suspects will be put on trial based on the the investigation conducted by its own operatives. Out of the numerous firms and individuals indicted, about 13 will be arraigned before 3 judges of Lagos High Court between Wednesday and Thursday, since their trial has been staggered. Suspects to be tried include Mahmud Tukur, Ochonogo Alex, Abdulai Alao, Eterna oil and Gas ltd, Walter Wagbatsuma, Fakunde Babafemi, Ezekiel Ejide, Peter MBA, among others. These suspects are charged with conspiracy, obtaining money by false presence, forgery and use of false document. It would be recalled that in the wake of subsidy removal, leading to increase in price of PMS, Nigerians raised alarm over the acommpanied hardship, leading to the constitution of committees to probe subsidy payments since God knows when.
What is more surprising is the recommendation of some PDP big figures and a political appointee for trial, against the usual man know man. Or could this be a demonstration of zero tolerance for corruption by this present administration? These unpatriotic people have cost us so much, as the trial begins, we expect the new CJN to supervise her boys, and approach the issues objectively. Well, Nigerian are watching. Fellow Nairalanders, what are ur expectation?
