A woman in Italy married herself in a small ceremony complete with bridesmaids and a wedding cake. Laura Mesi, a 40-year-old fitness instructor and vlogger from a small town near Milan, is believed to be the first woman in the country to marry herself. Mesi said she first considered the idea of a solo wedding after the end of a 12-year relationship two years ago. "I told my relatives and friends that if I had not found my soul mate I would marry myself by my 40th birthday," she said. A total of 70 guests attended the ceremony, which holds no legal weight, to join Mesi in celebrating self-love and acceptance as part of a trend known as "sologamy." Mesi said she remains open to the idea of getting married in the future, but doesn't require the social affirmation typically associated with a traditional marriage. "If one day I find a man with whom I can plan a future I'll be happy, but my happiness does not depend on him," she said. http://www.oddnewsmedia.com/2017/09/italian-woman-marries-herself-in.html |

The “Mr. Model Tabasco 2017” male beauty contest was supposed to bring together the most handsome men in the Mexican state of Tabasco, but the modeling agency behind the event recently announced its cancellation, after failing to find candidates that met their beauty requirements. In order to be accepted as contestants for the Mr. Model Tabasco pageant, candidates needed to have a height of at least 1,78 m, be between 17 and 27 years old, have a “harmonious face and body”, have a college degree or an education equivalent to their age, speak English, have a valid passport, and not be a stripper. Apparently, these requirements proved to be a big problem, as just a few days before the contest, organizers had only selected 6 candidates. Those didn’t really meet the agency’s beauty standards either, so they ultimately decided to cancel the whole event. “The National Organization of Mr. Model Mexico regrets to inform you that the Mr. Model Tabasco 2017 event has been canceled until further notice, due to the candidates not meeting the physical requirements established by the organization,” the agency said in a statement. “Mr Model Tabasco will continue to work hard to find the perfect example of masculine beauty in the state.” The agency conducted several photo shoots with the accepted contestants, promoted the event on TV and online, and at one point rebranded it as “the best national and international male modeling event”, but they still couldn’t attract men that fit their strict requirements. Many believe that the height requirement was very restrictive, considering that Mexicans are not exactly known for being tall. To say You Jianxia has long eyelashes would be a gross understatement. The average person’s lashes are between 0.8 and 1.2 cm-long, but the hairs growing on the edges of this woman’s eyelids reach a whopping 12.4 cm. That’s nearly 5-inches! The 2018 Guinness World Records category for “world’s longest eyelashes” was one of the most popular, with over 500 entries from all around the world, but no one even came close to You Jianxia, a former investment fund director from Shanghai, China. With eyelashes reaching all the way down from her eyelids past her mouth, the 49-year-old easily bagged the world record. When her lashes were officially measured, on 28 June 2016, the longest of them was 12.4 cm, and considering that was a year ago, it’s probably even longer now. If not for the photos of You doing the rounds online, I would never have believed such long natural eyelashes were even possible. Contrary to what the Western media has been reporting lately, You Jianxia’s eyelashes haven’t been growing all her life. She told Chinese reporters that she only started noticing her eyelid hairs getting longer after retiring from her job as the chairman of a multi-million dollar investment fund, in 2013, and becoming closer to nature. She became known as the “flower fairy” after dedicating herself to gardening and creating over 1,600 rose varieties. You believes there is a connection between her new life and the growth of her eyelashes. Long eyelashes are considered a beautiful, feminine feature, but I’m pretty sure that most women would freak out if they saw theirs grow all they way to their nose; not You Jianxia, though. Far from being put off by the unusual growth rate of her lashes, she took great care not to break them off by accident. The former finance executive is actually proud of her long eyelashes and claims that they don’t inconvenience her in any way. http://www.oddnewsmedia.com/2017/09/woman-with-124-centimeter-eyelashes.html

Polygamy is illegal in Thailand, but that didn’t stop a modern-day Casanova from taking a whopping 120 wives and having 28 children with them. What’s even more unusual is that the women all know about each other and are fine with the arrangement. Tambon Prasert, the head of Phromnee district, in Thailand’s Nakorn Nayok province, some 90 km from Bangkok, was recently forced to admit that he had illegally taken over 100 wives, after reporters were tipped off about it by anonymous sources. The 58-year-old local politician and owner of a successful construction business, recently welcomed members of the media into his home to shed some light on his family life, after they traveled to Phromnee to confirm their leads. Asked if it was true that he had more than 100 wives all across the country, Prasert matter-of-factly said “I have 120 wives and 28 sons and daughters”. But one doesn’t reach that impressive number of wives in just a few years. Prasert told reporters that he started very young, when he was just 17 years old. “My first marriage was when I was 17,” he recounted. “My first wife was one or two years younger than me and we had three children. After that I had a string of others. Most of them were young women and they were all under 20. I don’t like older ones – they argue too much”. As he matured and opened his construction business, Tambon Prasert developed a very unusual habit – he would take a wife in every place he built a house. “I am a building contractor, wherever I built a house I got a wife there,” he told Daily News. “I love them all – and they all love me.” Source: http://www.oddnewsmedia.com/2017/09/modern-day-casanova-in-thailand-marries.html

A shocked Australian couple watching wild ducks in their back yard stumbled upon an unexpected bit of nature -- a green tree frog feasting on a snake. Thompson, 37, of Townsville, Queensland, posted a video to Facebook seeking help identifying the small snake she and Aaron Weinheimer witnessed being eaten by the frog about 7 p.m. Monday. "My partner Aaron told me to come have a look under the clothesline," Thompson told the Courier-Mail newspaper. "There was the frog, chomping down on the little snake. He had already swallowed the head so we couldn't see what type of snake it was." She said it took the frog about two minutes to finish eating the snake. "The frog kept using both hands to stuff the snake in its mouth," she said. "It just sat there afterwards, breathing heavily like it had a major workout. When I looked closer you could still see the head of the snake poking around in the belly of the frog." Thompson said she may have been indirectly responsible for the snake's demise by previously saving the frog's life. "It's actually one of the ones I sometimes have to rescue from the mouth of my domestic ducks at night, as it has scarring from their bill on its back," she said. http://www.oddnewsmedia.com/2017/08/woman-shocked-as-she-films-tree-frog.html

A baby born in South Carolina on Monday was given a celestial name in honor of the total solar eclipse. Eclipse Alizabeth Eubanks was born to parents Freedom and Michael Eubanks at 8:04 a.m. on Monday, more than a week before she was due. "I kind of felt like it was meant to happen, to have her on this day," the mother said. Eclipse was born at Greenville Memorial Hospital, measured 19 inches long and weighed 6 pounds and 3 ounces, hospital spokesman Dudley Brown said. The family originally planned to name the baby girl Violet, but decided to give her the name Eclipse in celebration of the rare event. South Carolina was one of 14 U.S. states in the path of totality for Monday's solar eclipse, and Eubanks said while her family was "shocked" believed it was destiny. "I think it was just meant to be, her name," she said. "We're probably going to call her Clipsey." About 11 other babies were born on Aug. 21 and were given special onesies to celebrate the occasion. http://www.oddnewsmedia.com/2017/08/south-carolina-baby-named-eclipse-born.html

Armenian-based startup Volterman has recently unveiled a smart wallet that takes security to the extreme. It comes with a built-in alarm system, a global GPS tracker, and even a front facing cameras that takes photos of whoever tries to open it, and sends them to the owner. Wallets almost seem obsolete in this digital age, but the Volterman Smart Wallet is not your average wallet. Apart from the screen, it packs about as much technology as your smartphone, including 512MB of RAM, a built-in camera, power bank, GPS tracker, alarm system, RFID protection and even Wi-FI hotspot capabilities. It may look like a simple leather wallet on the outside, but it’s a whole different beast on the inside. One of the main features of the Volterman Smart Wallet is the distance-sensitive alarm system. Once you’ve paired the stylish card holder with your smartphone, every time the distance between phone and wallet goes over a certain threshold, an alarm will notify you, so you don’t accidentally leave it behind. The cool thing about this system is that it works both ways. If you forget your phone somewhere, the wallet alarm goes off, letting you know that its best friend is missing. http://www.oddnewsmedia.com/2017/08/worlds-most-secure-wallet-comes-with.html

Surgeons at Guanji Hospital, in Hezhou, China, recently spent six hours removing over 200 stones from a woman’s gallbladder and liver, some of them the size of small eggs. The patient, a 45-year-old woman known only as Ms. Chen, had apparently been experiencing abdominal pain for over a decade. When she first went to a hospital about it, an examination revealed several stones in her gallbladder and liver as the cause. Doctors advised her to undergo surgery and have them removed, but she was too scared to go under the knife. She only recently went to Guanji Hospital, when the pain became “unbearable”. The woman’s surgery lasted six and a half hours, during which time, doctors removed over 200 stones from her gall bladder and liver, from small gravel-like pebbles to rocks the size of eggs. Dr. Quan Xuwei, one of the surgeons who performed the operation, said that such a large number of stones was unusual, adding that it was probably caused by the woman’s eating habits. The woman, who was making a living by collecting rosin from pine trees, often skipped breakfast completely and ate leftovers at irregular hours. This caused the bile to build up in the gallbladder, leading to high cholesterol and calcium levels, which crystallized into stones. Dr. Quan said that many of his patients who suffer from gallstones have a habit of skipping or rushing their breakfast. However, his theory that skipping breakfast can lead to the formation of gallbladder and liver stones is unsupported by medical evidence. Dr George Webster, the vice president of the British Society of Gastroenterology, told Daily Mail that the theory was “pure speculation”, adding that gallstones are common worldwide, but their cause is often unknown. Infection in the bile ducts are a likely explanation, which is why gallstone cases are more frequent in China and Eastern Asia than in the West.
