HealthRe: Reasons Why Health Insurance Should Be Compulsory In Nigeria by oliverskijo: 2:48pm On Dec 14, 2020
This is a thought provoking issue because health is one of the indices of development of any nation.
NHIS have failed if they could achieve only 5% coverage of the total population from 2005 till date.
I know they are coming up with 'health insurance under one roof policy' that will enable each state to establish its own state health insurance scheme to improve coverage.
Above all, political commitment to the development of this country is lacking. The style of government gives room for little or no form of long term development.

Out of pocket cost on health by Nigerians is killing and has killed many Nigerians especially those in rural areas who could not seek health care because of the high cost.

HealthBREAKING: UNIMEDTH Doctors Protest Unpaid Salaries Amid Pandemic by oliverskijo(op): 3:20pm On May 08, 2020
Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Teaching Hospital Ondo, on Friday staged a peaceful protest over non-payment of five-month salaries

The doctors threatened to embark on indefinite strike action if their salaries are not paid within one week.

They said some arrears in 2019 were yet to be paid.

The resident doctors in January protested non- payment of six months salaries after which they embarked on an indefinite strike action.

Acting President of ARD, UNIMED branch, Dr. Shittu Abiola, said they suspended the strike action despite victimisation and arrears left unpaid.

Abiola said they resume duties in the interest of the patients and promise that the arrears would be paid as soon as possible.

He said it was pathetic and unfortunate that the arrears have not been paid but that they were only paid one month salary.

According to him: “The sorry situation has plunged us and our families into severe hardship and humiliation.

“In order to avert a repeat of what happened in January, we hav had wide consultations in form of letters and meetings to and with bothboir management and government representatives to hear our peculair situation and do the needful but to no avail.

“As determined committed and resolute as we have been in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic as frontline healthcare workers in the state in accordance with the state government’s plan to not only cut the chain of transmission but ensure that everyone in the state has access to quality healthcare.

“We will unfortunately not be able to continue to provide this much needed service beyond May 15th for the obvious reason that we would have totally run out of every means to continue to do so.

“We care about our patients and the Ondo people but no one seems to care about us or our families. We will be willing to return to work when our demands such as full payment of all we are owed including our January salary shortfall.”

Chief Medical Director of UNIMED, Dr. Oluwole Ige, said talks were on with protesting doctors to avert the strike action.

Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN) responded well to questions directed to him, with Senator Dino Melaye's questions inclusive. The latter always find a way to draw attention to himself, Senator Lawan did well in quelling the situation.

I hope Mr Keyamo will do half of what he proposed in his answers, when he is faced with realities in government.

Shayetet13:
Stop being a pathethic tribalist even amongsts your yoruba people. Obasanjo is Yoruba, so whats your problem? Yoruba is Yoruba. To clear your confusion, Igbos voted Obasanjo, a yoruba, against a northern candidate in 2003, despite the northern candidate having an igbo vp.
Yoruba is Yoruba, Ibo is Ibo, don't let's shy away from the truth, Nigerians vote along party line and party interest ( Yorubas and Ibos) inclusive. Hence, whether we are Ibo or Yoruba we align with a political party that best suit our interest. From History, Ibos align with PDP while , Yorubas align with AD ( which has metamophosized to today APC) so claiming Ibos voted for OBJ who is Yoruba which was rather a pure act of voting where your interest lies than supporting the Yoruba Man, and an obvious deterrent to the Yoruba interest and AD party's wish which is in Olu Falae.

The Yorubas should not be blamed for miscalculation within a party. Politics is about interest.

Be that as it may, Yorubas believe their interest is best served in APC, so does the Ibos find theirs in PDP.
Ibos should therefore realign and ensure PDP present an Ibo candidate for 2023 to test their popularity.

SuperIgbo1:
Yorubas always would want to brag about their new found political relevance, loooooool. An Igbo person, barely 9 years after fighting a Biafran war, became vice president while, it took Yorubas more than 40 years after independence to match that feat.

Igbos produced Nigeria's first president while, Yorubas produced a president more than 30 years later. Igbos produced Nigeria's first Senate president, while Yorubas have produced none(Saraki is not Yoruba).

In the first republic, Igbos produced the president, Senate president, and speaker of the house of representatives while Yorubas had none. In the second republic, Igbos had the vice president and, speaker of the house of representatives while, an Eastern Nigerian was the Senate president.
With all due respect, Igbos have come a long way and have invested in PDP as a party, without mincing words what Igbo should be clamouring and realigning for now is PDP presidential candidate in 2023.
FamilyThe Plight Of The Leap Year Birthday Celebrant. by oliverskijo(op):
Birthday is defined simply as the day one is born. It is an anniversary which is celebrated worldwide in numerous cultures and religions, where friends and families come together to celebrate you for surviving 'another year'.
However, are you aware that some group of persons are inadvertently disenfranchised of such yearly celebrations that we all enjoy?
These group of people have not offended the gods, nor committed any grievous crime, but they are just victims of circumstance. You know already the people I am referring to, "FEBRUARY 29 BIRTHDAY CELEBRANTS".

Tomorrow MARCH 1, happens to be my Birthday so I pondered on the plight of these group of people that plan their birthdays like INEC and FIFA related major events.

The next leap year is year 2020, which happens to be the year the POTUS is elected. There is every tendency these celebrants can forget which year is the leap year, hence, they fail to prepare for their day. My 1 cent: the POTUS election year is your year.

Extracts below detailing the genesis of the leap year.

Wishing me a Happy Birthday is not prohibited.

February 29 Birthday Celebrants come on board, let's celebrate together.

THANK YOU

Leap Year Explained
Leap years synchronize the calendar year with the solar year

Why do we need leap years?

The Gregorian calendar, which now serves as the standard calendar for civil
use throughout the world, has both common years and leap years. A
common year has 365 days and a leap year 366 days, with the extra--or
intercalary--day designated as February 29. A leap year occurs every four
years to help synchronize the calendar year with the solar year, or the length
of time it takes the earth to complete its orbit around the sun, which is about
365¼ days.

The length of the solar year, however, is slightly less than 365¼ days-by
about 11 minutes. To compensate for this discrepancy, the leap year is
omitted three times every four hundred years.
In other words, a century year cannot be a leap year unless it is divisible by
400. Thus 1700, 1800, and 1900 were not leap years, but 1600, 2000, and
2400 are leap years.

* What are your chances of being born on leap day?

About 1 in 1,500.

*When is the birthday party?

If you are born on a Leap Year, can you get your driver's license as early
as February 28th? Well, each state decides whether or not February 28 or
March 1 will be the day you are eligible to get your license. Most states,
however, consider March 1st the official day. For instance, the Michigan
Vehicle Code states that people born on February 29th "are deemed to have
been born on March 1st." Another fun fact: Leap year babies get their
driver's licenses when they are officially four years old (16)! There are no
rules on when you have a party, however, so really in day in February or
March is fair game to celebrate a leap year birthday.

How many people were born on leap day?

There are about 187,000 people in the US and 4 million people in the world
who were born on Leap Day.
The rules for determining a leap year
Most years that can be divided evenly by 4 are leap years.
Exception: Century years are NOT leap years UNLESS they can be evenly
divided by 400.
When did leap year originate?
The Gregorian calendar is closely based on the Julian calendar, which was
introduced by Julius Caesar in 45 BC. The Julian calendar featured a 12-
month, 365-day year, with an intercalary day inserted every fourth year at the
end of February to make an average year of 365.25 days. But because the
length of the solar year is actually 365.242216 days, the Julian year was too
long by .0078 days (11 minutes 14 seconds).
This may not seem like a lot, but over the course of centuries it added up.
Until in the 16th century, the vernal equinox was falling around March 11
instead of March 21. In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII adjusted the calendar by
moving the date ahead by 11 days and by instituting the exception to the
rule for leap years. This new rule, whereby a century year is a leap year only
if divisible by 400, is the sole feature that distinguishes the Gregorian
calendar from the Julian calendar.
Following the Gregorian reform, the average length of the year was 365.2425
days, an even closer approximation to the solar year. At this rate, it will take
more than 3,000 years for the Gregorian calendar to gain one extra day in error

PoliticsRe: Next Level: What Do You Want From This Administration? by oliverskijo: 1:31pm On Feb 27, 2019
* I want Local Government autonomy restored, consequently, bringing dividends of democracy closer to the Nigerian people, also reducing the hegemony of the State governors and allowing the Federal government to be fully focused on Foreign policies, economy diversification and revitalization of our democracy.

* I want the leadership of the Legislative arm (upper and lower chambers) carefully elected with apt consideration to meritocratic standards and loyalty to the party.

* I want our Judiciary system restructured in a way that return our trust to the system.

* I want governance to be made unattractive to deter selfish politicians having ambitions.

* I want a population census done, it's long overdue since 2016. We can't solve the problem of this country if we don't have some basic statistics at our fingertips.

* I want more attention to be paid to Food security, if we all have food to eat then, we are less violent.

* I want continuity in infrastructural development, employment creation.

* I want State assembly to place subtle pressure on underperforming governors.

All these can only be achieved through policies. The Executives and the Legislators should see themselves as one government for the next 4 years.

We, citizens should also see ourselves as Nigerians first before our different tribes.

We have no other country we can call our our own except Nigeria.

Based on logistics, Inec took a bold step by postponing the elections. I hope the aim of the postponement will not be defeated.
It seems it was apparently done in a bid to ensure and keep to their promise of free, fair and credible elections.
