fizzile:You know to be honest, i have never thought of this before sha, well i am not too sure but when i used mine sometimes back, i used selling rate . I never even bothered to notice the difference back then. I just used what i saw on the site. Never bothered looking below to see other rates ![]() Looking back now, i think i should have used the buying rate (i could be wrong though). I would like to hear what others used when they did their own tier 4 Visa too years back. cc: SpikesC Bourne007 |
Dynamitehimself:@bolded, cos the agents and the bank workers are doing business together. Naija is in real trouble. some people have become overnight billionaires. People who are selling pounds here in Uk have made so much money even third parties are profiting so much from the deal. |
worry359:Of cos it says bank but why should bankers be using the whole forex for their own profit illegally? My cousin even told me that the banker has agreed to get people that he will use for the WU. The point is, it is illegal. The bankers are trading illegally. |
yomiselmer:I can tell you Loud and clear, the banks are using the money for their own gain. Read what i wrote above. Naija has a long way to go. |
Guys let me just drop this here, apparently naija is so corrupt ehn.... i just dey shake my head My cousin just called me now and told me he would be sending money through Western Union. This is the deal, the person at the western union told him to come very early in the morning and he should get an extra person... so he would be able to transfer using 2 people. Then the subsequent days, he would get other people to do the western union for him. He will have to keep on getting different people (who must have a valid ID) to effect the payment for him till all of the money has been transferred to UK. and of cos, the banker will also collect change So if you are thinking of getting cheaper rates outside Form A, try and find a banker you can get a deal with and also someone who is in the UK you TRUST to help you collect the money. I honestly pity the change you people are experiencing in naija. |
Whatamidoinghere:Obviously you can still use Form A but try and give enough time to process, At least 3 weeks. Also don't get it twisted, some people are still using Form A steady (provided you have connections). How do you think all these politicians are paying fees for their kids? If you want to pay your fees like within a week or 2, i would not recommend Form A as it is unpredictable. @fizzile, i dont know what other means o, just quickly use the Form A to pay the balance since you still have time on your side or you pray that the rates go down. Imagine as at today, to buy pounds here in Uk is about 495 naira. I seriously pity students (and their parents) coming to Uk at this moment. For the first time i have to admit it that Buhari and Osinbajo has failed naija. The change is indeed negative |
AfricanPen:nice |
Whatamidoinghere:Moneygram? well i will not try to discourage you but i hope you know that money gram has a limit of $1000 (if it has not changed yet)... how much of that will you send to get about lets say £4,000? I also know that money gram can only be sent by one person by quarter, so you will have to use multiple number of persons to get the required amount of money you have. A friend of mine who bought a car in USA as at February using multiple number of persons this year sent money from Nigeria and the money that was received in USA was $930 (instead of $1,000... i guess their charges). So the question is how much of that can you send to get the required amount of pounds? Not all banks or branches do money gram and also the banks that even do it may not do more than 2 transactions in a day. Form A is still the cheapest means but it has become increasingly difficult at the moment due to the number of students trying to use int now and limited Forex by CBN. I can't count the number of students that have complained to me about Form A, that is why i suggested in my former post that people should consider other means if you are in a hurry to pay your fees and receive your CAS. cc: Fizzile |
fizzile:God bless you. Different people will come and go, Nairaland will remain forever (hopefully), always look beyond individuals. This forum has been really helpful (God bless Seun Osewa) , we must always give back to the people coming behind. Notice to all If you intend paying your school fees through Form A, i will advise you look for other means as the Form A has not been reliable these days. From a reliable banker friend. |
WILLIAMS10:@williams, before you can get proper guidance, i would like you to state what you would be paying the school from here, the remaining balance you will have left to pay and the period the school has asked you to pay (specific dates or months and in how many instalments) also do you have any relatives in hull?. When you provide these details, then i will tell you if it is possible or not. |
fizzile:Nobody can ask you to leave a thread. The forum is open for discussions and you are allowed to air your views provided you do not break any rules. I also think all your questions have been answered so far. Me i am waiting for your testimony here o, make sure you come back and share. You are not leaving here till you share your testimony. Also you have been very helpful, once you get to UK, we need people like you to keep on contributing on this thread and helping others like you have always done. All the best. |
tolam08: As for the bolded, please do not withdraw the money until Your visa is out. Once your passport has ben collected with your visa stamped on it, beg go and flex with the money anyhow ![]() |
I am following this post bumper to bumper. I need business to do. |
fizzile:September 26 is still a little bit far though. You can apply the first week of September and use the added value services (i don't know how much they charge for the express visa processing. You will have to check Tele performance website to confirm). If you even restart the 28 days by Monday 18th of July, the days should be complete before the end of August (remember weekend is included). Also try adding extra. The rates are so unpredictable. I will mail you back to give you my regular mail. |
fizzile:@bolded, you are on point bro. |
fizzile:when is your school resuming? There is express visa application of 5 working days although you will have to pay extra for that. Let me also apologise to you fizzle, i just saw the mail you sent to me since jun 27. No vex abeg, i don't use this Nairaland mail too often. |
nellaluv:So sweet of you, thanks. |
lanicky:You are welcome. You should thank Agarawu23 more, he did a wonderful job for you (he contacted me outside Nairaland all for you). All the best queen. |

@geomustee, i already posted home office requirements word for word up there for you. You can use a legal guardian/parents account provided you SHOW EVIDENCE that you are related to the legal guardian and you have their permission to use this money. try reading my last 2 or 3 posts. Also note that if you don't want too much wahala with showing proof of relationship and letter of consent, you can decide to use your personal account IF you still have time to start counting another 28 days. Also see what was written below, the legal guardian route might be very difficult to achieve in Nigeria. I suggest you move the money into your account fast and start counting another 28days. I hope it is not too late for you though bro. cc: dannyabba |
fizzile:@fizzle, @ bolded is wrong sir. A legal guardian is accepted but a very difficult route. Infact, i don't know of anyone who has successfully used this route in Nigeria. |
nellaluv: no be small thing o. I have been very busy and sometimes i am just too lazy to type. hope you are good? |
LGDON:I think you got it mixed up sir. Before the laws changed late last year, only people who were resident in UK were allowed to show 2 months maintenance fees + balance of fees (it was termed established presence). This established presence has now been cancelled and everyone who is applying within UK must show 9 months maintenance fees except for those who will be applying on the PHD extension scheme. Please note for those applying from Nigeria, it has always been 9 months maintenance fees for 28 days for years now, nothing changed about that. Oh and before i forget, the monthly maintenance fees increased by some pounds for those studying in London and outside London ![]() |
geomustee:I think most of your questions has been answered by dannyabba but he missed the part of "How long is it expected to hold on to the printed statement of account before applying for the visa" The home office states that you must use the statement within 31 days of been printed. once you print the statement and the school approves it, quickly fill your application form and pay the fees and chose your date for interview. Also, all the home office requires from you as regards your legal guardian in home office words and i quote below "If you are a Tier 4 (General) student and using funds held by your parent(s)/legal guardian(s), you will need to show us evidence that you are related to your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) and that you have their permission to use this money". If you a Tier 4 (General) student and are relying on money held by your parent(s)/legal guardian(s), you must show that you are related to them and must provide one of the following: i. your birth certificate showing the names of your parent(s)/legal guardian(s); or ii. your certificate of adoption showing names of both parent(s) or legal guardian(s); or iii. a Court document naming your legal guardian(s). The document use must be the original legal document or a notarised copy. All the best. |
nellaluv:please note: words of home office in bold. "Under Section 55 of the Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009, the Home Office must have regard to the need to safeguard children and to promote their welfare. All children studying in the UK must have suitable care arrangements in place for their travel, reception on arrival in the UK and living arrangements while here. Children are all students under 18 years old. 39. If you are 16 or 17 years old and applying as a Tier 4 (General) student, you must have your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) written consent that you can live and travel independently' "If you are a 16 or 17 year old Tier 4 (General) student, you have the legal right to live independently in the UK, and so may make your own arrangements for accommodation. However you require the consent of your parent(s)/legal guardian(s) to do this and to travel to the UK (if you are applying from overseas). 204. If you are 16 or 17 years old and living independently, you must provide a letter from your parent(s) or legal guardian(s), confirming: the relationship between you and your parent(s) or legal guardian(s); that your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) have given their consen toyour application; that your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) have given their consent to you living independently in the UK; and that your parent(s) of legal guardian(s) have given their consent to your independent travel to the UK. 205. The letter must confirm if your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) have legal custody or sole responsibility for you. If they have sole custody then they must sign the letter. If they do not, the letter must confirm that each of your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) agree to the contents of the letter and it must be signed by each parent or legal guardian" www.gov.uk (page 52) Please note that The "child" can use the parents account in UK or his own account here in Nigeria if he is applying as a TIER 4 GENERAL STUDENT The mums account in UK can be used provided she stays in Uk legally. In this case, you won't need to do the Oanda conversion wahala. All the best |
Feyikemi12:That is the problem we are facing in naija and even here on nairaland. There is corruption everywhere . Majority of the mods are also corrupt...Only Fynestboi is not corrupt. |
darkseidpete:As for school fees, did your school not ask you to pay some amount before issuing you your CAS? you can pay half of your fees and the balance should be fixed along with your maintenance cost for 28 days. You do not need your own personal bank statement. All you need is your parents bank statement showing your maintenance fees + school fees (if you have not paid or balance of school fees). and also, let your parents write a letter clearly stating that they have given you full authority to use and access the money in their account for the duration of your stay in the UK. The letter should be addressed to the British High commission and should be taken along with you on the day of your interview, to be submitted with the other documents on your CAS. all the best bro. |

@claremont has said it all. |
Eniakii:Sorry if i gave a wrong impression, you asked if we knew those who have done so before and gotten their visa, YES i know lots of them but if you have been following my comments on this UK student Travel section, i always ask people to leave money in the bank account even after printing the bank statement till after they get their visa (check the previous page) because it is better to be safe than sorry. But if you do not have money again to pay for your IHS and visa fees after fixing the money into the account for 28 days and you are running out of time and no money else where, will i say you should cancel the whole process? NO. I called my cousin just now (just to be sure), she did the same thing cos she was also stranded and ran out of cash, after printing the 28 days statement, she used out of the money to pay IHS fees and Visa application fees.Would i advise someone to also do this? NO but if you are short of cash like you said and no other option, YES. You have broken no rule. Also note that for all this VISA applications, there are always exceptions and that is why i always advise for people to go for the safest route and if that is not possible, then you can do what others have also done (guided by the law) and pray. Home office only says show the money in the account and the money should be available for the duration of stay in UK. The reason why they are saying the statement should be used within 31 days for visa application is their own way of making sure that the money is still freshly available. I wish you all the best. |
Eniakii:There are many people who have removed the money from the account after 28 days and used part of the money to pay for visa and IHS fees and YES they got their visa (intact i have a cousin who did that just this year). What the home office states is that the money should be in the account for 28 days and the statement printed should be used within 31 days for your visa application. If you do not have any other money to pay for your visa and IHS fees, once the money completes 28 days, print out the statement and then use out of the money but make sure you use the statement printed out within 31 days for your visa application. Also please make sure you carry out transactions on your account. what o mean is that don't just put the maintenance money in the account and print it out like that. Carry out 1 or 2 transactions on the account before printing out the statement but make sure the money does not in any way go below the required amount. All the best. |
Justyce:Do you mean you don't want to submit your certificates? bro you are funny. How long and why? It is a rule that you must submit Originals and it will be with them until the day you are given your visa. They have every right to demand whatever it is they want since you are the one that came to them that you want to go to their country. Will it get lost? why are you thinking negative? For every document they collect from you, they always note it down. If it gets lost, sue them. Them go find am by force. Genuinty/Verification? If it is original, they will know. I guess they also have ways to verify its genuineness.Your documents will be with them for 15 days (i am sure it won't just be playing with them) and also remember these Visa officers have years of experience and they can tell if it is genuine. Why are you even bothered about this? Do you plan to submit Oluwole to them? All the best bro. |
Dynamitehimself:I do know you can sell them in UK in all these pawn shops. How you will get them to the UK, i do not know. How much will they pay you depending on the carat or weight compared to how much those mallams will pay in lagos, i do not know. But come to think of it, if you can get them to the UK and get good price for them with this current high value of pounds, after selling, you can send the money back to naija and get huge money in naira (i am assuming you won't be using the money for school fees or feeding fees). I am just thinking out loud. Definitely selling in the UK will give you more money (when you convert the pounds to naira with the current exchange rate) than selling in naija. Modified: I just saw on the other thread that the gold is just going to be a small box of personal effects, so that should be no big deal in transporting to the UK but please those people that asked you to sell it in UK, are they also professionals in the business? if they are then you should go with their advice. |
. I never even bothered to notice the difference back then. I just used what i saw on the site. Never bothered looking below to see other rates
