Then he will request for ur conditional offer letter,ur photocopy of ur degree certificate, details of payment, then if the money is in ur account,u will provide ur account details and ur bvn number,den ur id card ( could be voters' card, drivers' licence or national id card). He or she will then fill the form and attach copies of all dos tnz I have listed. That's all.

Guys, if u r planning to pay for your tuition using the Form A, please act fast before the exchange rate increases beyond what it is currently. I actually paid mine today and it was paid at the rate of 300naira for 1 pound. Seems the CBN has given instructions regarding exchange rates. Its so annoying. Please try and act fast if you have intentions of using Form A.
Almost got discouraged when the man kept asking me unnecessary questions regarding why i want to study abroad. He claimed he actually took a study leave from his work place as a banker and studied in the UK for his masters and he came back to Nigeria. That he is currently doing his MBA in Unical. That what's my gain going to the UK to study when we have good education here. That i want to go and damage my dad's money. I felt so demoralized. But i had to summon courage goals i have a goal. Tried not to allow all he said to get at me.

I want to know how i can make payment for IELTS for UKVI lagos center without need to travel, i reside in PH.

To be honest, i am not too sure but you can call the office directly to ask if you can make bank payments (i think this should be possible) or anyone ho just did the exam on here can make other suggestions.

Secondly, will i still have enough time for other stuffs like makin deposit payment, other baking issues and visa proces if im to sit for the exam on june 25, and resumption is in september.

You did not say if you are going for your masters...some schools don't need IELTS for masters provided you had a good result in your WAEC.

Also,applying for admission to the UK is free and usually the school should give you a conditional offer within 1 week depending on how fast the school is once you apply for admission.

It is still very possible to apply this September depending on how fast you are in your next step.

I will suggest you make up your mind fast. If you decide to go this September, Have your maintenance fees in your account latest by 1st of july so that immediately, the 28 days will start counting and by the time your IELTS result is out (if the school says it is necessary), you will just submit both your IELTS result, statement of account and pay school fees and then you will be given an unconditional offer and your CAS. you will then fill the application form and pick a date for interview. if you are already running out of time, you can just pay for priority visa processing.

Make up your mind and take the next step fast.

When you get your visa (i did not say if cos i know you will surely get it by God's grace) and you arrive UK, you will normally have 20hrs to work (would be written on your visa). You can get jobs by applying to agencies. you can do security jobs, care jobs, cleaning jobs, factory work, till worker, kitchen porter etc

You will be able to work unlimited during school term breaks. But please, take money along with you as a student cos the money you will get from those jobs may only cover your rent (depending on the city you would be schooling).

during the school term breaks, you will get more money and also when you finish your course, you will be able to work well due to the additional months that will be on your visa before going back to naija(normally 4 months)

I just thought to say this. With the present exchange rate i think it is now cheaper to get a school owned accomodation, i did the calculation and trust me it is cheaper now. as of today, echange rate in most banks is between 453-527naira to a pound. and with school accomodation you can pay at around 290 using form A. I think the gap in the exchange rate now makes school accomodation a better choice. Asides from the fact that you would be tied to a 40-50weeks contract, honestly i see no reason why anyone won't prefer school accomdation. ofcourse unless you intend to pay your rent from money gotten from part-time jobs. Just my 2 cents. I don't mean to say you are wrong bro, i only thought to share my observation

Thanks alot. So in essence, when am ready to pay the tuition or deposit of the tuition, i will go to the bank and request for a Form A, then they will make they payment to the school with their charges too. Then at that point i can print out statement of account showing balance of the remaining tuition and maintenance fee, right? I guess am correct. Then with respect to accomodation, do i have to pay that before applying for visa? And must it be accomodation in the school? if its outside, how can someone pay for accomodation here in Nigeria? Hello house, I am currently a Masters students [English] in Nigeria, soon to graduate. I intend to apply for PhD studies in the UK but I have some questions:

Please note, i will answer your questions based on the knowledge i have as regards my brother who did his PHD in Glasgow and also based on my knowledge of been in the UK for years.

1. Are there schools with affordable tuition or any that is tuition free?

My brother got a scholarship to do his PHD and he was also paid monthly for 3 years of his PHD program. He had the best result in his masters in Nottingham University and targeted areas where he could get scholarships and then applied (he migrated all the way from Nottingham to Glasgow just for the scholarship ). I think there are selected areas where you can get scholarships. you will need to get these information by searching online yourself (provided you have good results in your masters).

For friends who are doing PHD in Scotland, it varies on the School, but try and budget minimum of £10,500 a year (depends on the course and you must factor in other expenses such as bench fees etc) please note, it could be more expensive in other parts of UK like central London and Manchester

2. What are the likely schools I can apply for?

He did his PHD in University of Glasgow (Scotland). You can check other schools in Uk for the cheapest options. Please note, University of Glasgow is a very expensive school to study if you are not on scholarship.

3. What is the typical cost of accomodation like [in naira]?

Accommodation varies but i think Scotland has the cheapest accommodation rate in Uk (this is based on my own empirical evidence...i could be wrong) you can get like £300 for a room in Scotland and that is like 135,000 naira at the rate of 450.

4. Can I work as a teaching assistant or lecturer while undertaking my PhD research?

you can work as a teaching assistant but for only 20hrs which will be on your visa.

5. Is it easy to get a visa for PhD studies?

I don't think it is that difficult to get the visa, just check the rules. I make bold to say that in comparison with canada and USA, Uk student visa should be the easiest to get provided you meet all requirements.

6. How much is flight fee [cheapest range]?

Bro, this is based on the airline you use. I think you can check this up yourself.

7. Are there academic opportunities for PhD holders ?

I will be honest with you, Lecturing jobs for foreigners that are PHD holders here in Scotland are quite difficult to get not impossible (also depends on your field). My brother finished his PHD since last year and the kind of job he got here in Scotland, was not too good for him pay wise. I think there would be better opportunities for jobs in England but the cost of living there is scary. He just got a Lecturing job in Naija (Federal University) and he is thinking of moving back to naija very soon.

Please also note, jobs are not that easy to get in all of Uk like before (you will need serious prayers and a good result and also a good school).As a PHD holder, you will be able to apply for an extra year on your visa (this is after you must have completed your PHD)

8. What are the salient factors I must take into consideration?

Just your qualifications, maintenance fees, etc You will adjust when you get to UK anyhow anyhow. Please note that it is not easy currently with the exchange rate wahala, most especially if you will be sponsoring yourself.

9. How much do I need to survive on a monthly basis as a PhD student?

On a monthly basis, i can only speak for Scotland where i live and i am based. you could get a one room apartment for about £300 (bills inclusive) and for feeding, you should be okay with about £60 monthly (if you cook....i am also assuming you must have brought some food stuffs along with you from Nigeria). please convert yourself to naira (you can either check bank rates or black market rates). Living in UK is expensive and don't even think you can survive by working as a student.

10. Do I need ielts or toefl or gre and those other exams since I read English?

Depends on the school you apply to, some schools will not need you to do IELTS as a masters student. Even if they need you to do the test, i see no reason why you should not pass the IELTS exam. you don't need GRE or Toefl (these are needed for USA student Visa's)

Please do well to tell me anything I haven't asked already. I know the questions are many. You don't have to answer all, just tell me the one you have an authoritative idea on. I really appreciate!

To be honest, no one can answer that question for you cos it depends on so many factors such as;

(1) Your degree...do you have SSCE, HND, OND, BSC or Masters

(2) Your field of study

(3) Years of experience

(4) Do you already have someone reliable on ground in Dubai that can easily direct you to the right places and guid you all through your stay in Dubai?

(5) Are you ready to start small? Are you ready to do any job for a start until you get the relevant certificates and then move up the ladder?

Even if you satisfy all the conditions above +vely, you will agree with me that the level of grace in people's life differ and so therefore what happened to Mr A on entering dubai cannot serve as the norm for others. Some people can get to dubai and within 1 or 2 weeks get a job while someone else can stay for 3 months and not get any job.

carefully look at the options below and then decide what you want

1 month visa

Advantages

(1) you will be more serious and focused knowing that you have a limited time before your visa expires

(2) you will be more prayerful you wouldn't mind fasting self (as time dey go)

(3) You wouldn't mind doing any job (this could be good and bad at the same time)

Disadvantages

(1) People might easily scam you when they see how desperate you are for a job (they will likely take advantage of you)

(2) You may end up settling for a lesser job (due to time running out)...... this may not be bad, if you have a plan in the long term.

(3) You may have limited options due to limited time to search for jobs far and wide

3 months visa

Advantages

(1) You will be more calm and composed and may not be easily scammed.

(2) You will have the option to choose and select jobs you actually desire (as time dey na)....This depends on your degree/certifications, field and experience.

(3) you will be able to search well and in no rush.

Disadvantages

(1) You may end up becoming too relaxed and even forget why you are there in Dubai

(2) The longer you stay, the more money you spend. Dubai is expensive (based on what i have heard)

Please note:

I have never in my life been to Dubai before, i am not an agent and i don't know anybody there. All what i wrote up there is based on what i have read here and my little experience as a foreigner in another country.
