Food / Bauchi Business Women Ventures Into Dog Meat Sales – What They Revealed Will Sur by Oloyenews: 7:20pm On Nov 06, 2016
Women in Tafawa Balewa town of Bauchi State have ventured into the selling of dog meat, once the exclusive preserve of men in the area, and are making brisk business.

A correspondent who visited the town on Sunday, reports that the business was providing financial succor to a lot of women.

Some of the women said they went into the trade because the menfolk appeared not to be interested in the business any longer.

They said that in the past, meat selling business was exclusively reserved for the men-folk, but it had now become an ‘all-embracing’ trade for both men and women.

One of the butchers, Mrs. Lucy John, said that some women decided to take to the trade because their male counterparts were gradually abandoning it and venturing into other trades.

She said that dog meat, being a delicacy in the area, was fast becoming a scarce commodity in the market because the male butchers were gradually abandoning the business.

John said the neglect of the business by men had opened up an opportunity for women, not just to prepare and sell dog meat, but also breed and market the animal, especially because of the lucrative nature of the business.

She said that during festive seasons, they made ‘good money’ because dogs were expensive, with the least price being N5000.

Crime / Again!!! Niger Delta Avengers To Buhari, ‘we Are Ready For War And No Going Back by Oloyenews: 4:57am On Nov 06, 2016
Niger Delta militants on Saturday threatened ‘war’ while dissociating themselves from the meeting elders from the oil-rich region had with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, last Tuesday.

Apart from distancing themselves from the meeting, they warned the Federal Government not to rejoice yet over the recent rise in oil production in the country, threatening that a series of attacks await oil facilities in the region in the days ahead.

The militants also asked the Federal Government to drop the charges against Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, and other leaders from the region.

The Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate, which is the only militant group that has refused to key into the ceasefire with the government, also claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s bombing of the Trans-Forcados Crude Export pipelines near Batan community in the Warri South-West Council Area of Delta State.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had on Tuesday said Nigeria’s oil production had recently risen to normal after a sharp drop earlier this year due to renewed militant attacks on oil and gas facilities in the region.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesperson, Aldo Agbalaja, the militant group accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of plotting to wage war against the people of the Niger Delta region.

“As a matter of fact, what the Avengers did to the oil industry will be nothing compared to the grand plan already set by our central command. We shall bring Nigeria’s daily output quota to below 500,000 barrels. Just be ready for the approaching tsunami.

“The multinational oil companies, we know you are recalcitrant and will always come to test wills, we hope you will continue in this tradition so there will always be reason to let the world know that ‘you don’t contest the corners of a house with the owner of the house.’

“The destruction of the Trans-Forcados Pipeline is just a warning. We warned against the restarting of the facility, but the daring companies won’t listen. That shadow operation that brought the TFP down was only meant to let these companies know that we aren’t kidding with them; when we say stay down, you stay down, and it’s in your best interest.”

The militant group described last Tuesday’s meeting between Buhari and stakeholders, including traditional rulers from the region as a humiliation of the people of the Niger Delta.

“The humiliation that came with the meeting of the elders with President Muhammadu Buhari did not come to the NDGJM as a surprise. We expected it because we know even the government knows the character and intent of the man and most of those he led to the meeting.

“The only painful part is the fact that the humiliation is stamped on the collective image of our people. However, we want to dare President Buhari and his administration to attempt or fully carry out his military action against our people and see the response that will follow.

“We want to say here, without mincing words, that we are aware of his intentions.

We thank Allah (SWT) for guiding us and for giving the State Government under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR (Mutawallen Sokoto) the vision to address issues of good governance with passion and love for the citizenry.

This ceremony is quite historic not only because it is the first of its kind to be held in Sokoto the Seat of the Caliphate by the present administration but also for the fact that it is taking place while we are in a festive mood – celebrating the 10th Anniversary of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Looking at the galaxy of the personalities that came for the Anniversary, as well as people who trooped in from all parts of the country and beyond for this happy event, it is clear to all that our traditional institutions are playing critical roles in the overall development of our fatherland.

Let me seize this opportunity offered by this moment to once more congratulate His Eminence, the Sultan for the invaluable contributions he is making in the development of the Nigerian polity.

Politics / RECESSION: Only Vibrant Private Sector Can End Our Recession – SARAKI by Oloyenews: 5:28am On Nov 05, 2016
Senate President Bukola Saraki said yesterday that if Nigeria must get out of the present recession, the country must ensure that vibrant private sector thrives.

According to Saraki, it has become imperative for the government to as a matter of urgency, create an enabling environment for the private sector to operate and drive the economic recovery efforts.

Speaking yesterday in Abuja when he received members of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), the Senate President said, “we must move away from our thinking of the past that it is only government that can make our economy to recover and grow.

Even if the government spends all her monies without the efforts of the private sector, the situation would continue to be the same. It is only the private sector, if strengthened and encouraged, that can take us out of this recession.

Crime / NJC Bars Judges Under Probe From Judicial Functions – See Reason by Oloyenews: 7:15am On Nov 04, 2016
The National Judicial Council has barred judges who are under investigation for various offences from sitting until the cases against them are concluded.

The NJC’s latest decision appeared to be a compromise reached after weeks of resisting calls from various quarters, including the Nigerian Bar Association, to suspend the affected judges or compel them to withdraw from further sittings until they were able to clear their names.

The NJC said in a statement signed by its Acting Director, Information, Mr. Soji Oye, on Thursday that it took the decision at its 79th meeting.
The meeting started on Wednesday and ended on Thursday.

A number of judges had been invited for investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after the raid of the houses of some judges, including two Justices of the Supreme Court, by the operatives of the Department of State Services between 7 and 8, October.

With the decision reached by the NJC on Thursday, the affected judges will no longer conduct proceedings until the cases against them are concluded.
The statement read in part, “The council also decided that judicial officers shall not be standing trial for alleged corruption-related offences and be performing judicial functions at the same time.
