More Doctors Sponsored by His Excellency Yahaya Bello, CON, Set for Induction into the Medical Profession Another set of medical doctors, fully sponsored by the immediate past Governor of Kogi state, His Excellency Yahaya Bello, CON, will be inducted into the medical profession tomorrow, March 13, 2025. This is a significant achievement for Kogi State and a reflection of the former governor’s dedication to education and healthcare. The journey of these doctors has not been without challenges. At one point, the Kogi State University (KSU) Medical School lost its accreditation, leaving many medical students stranded and uncertain about their future. Upon emerging governor of Kogi State and recognizing the urgency of the situation, Governor Yahaya Bello took immediate action, setting up a committee to assess the best way forward. Based on the committee’s recommendations, the government ensured the transfer of affected students to accredited medical schools across the country, preventing their dreams from being cut short. At the same time, Kogi State’s teaching hospital was upgraded to meet the necessary standards for accreditation. Beyond facilitating their relocation, Bello went a step further by fully sponsoring the students throughout their medical education, covering tuition, accommodation, and other academic expenses. This sponsorship, which cost millions of naira per student, removed financial burdens and allowed them to focus entirely on their studies. Now, as these doctors prepare to take the Hippocratic Oath, the impact of that investment is clear. They are ready to serve in the healthcare sector, bringing their knowledge and skills to improve medical services in Kogi State and beyond. Congratulations to the new doctors! Congratulations to former Governor Yahaya Bello for his commitment to education and healthcare! Congratulations to Kogi State on this remarkable achievement! https://kogireports.com/more-doctors-sponsored-by-ex-gov-yahaya-bello-set-for-induction-into-medical-profession/

Yesterday, Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, alongside his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, attended the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Caucus meeting at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The high-level political gathering, aimed at shaping the party’s strategic direction, brought together progressive governors, former governors, and other key stakeholders. The meeting was presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Bringing together APC governors, national leaders, and top government officials, the meeting reaffirmed the party’s commitment to unity and effective governance. The presence of both Governor Ododo and former Governor Bello indicates Kogi State’s strong representation in national political discussions as the APC continues to strengthen its internal structures and policy agenda both at the state and federal levels.

Nigerians Blast Natasha Akpoti for Suing Akpabio Instead of Apologizing for Senate Outburst Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is facing heavy backlash on social media for suing Senate President Godswill Akpabio for defamation instead of apologizing for her outburst over a routine seat reallocation in the Senate chambers. Many Nigerians see her lawsuit as a desperate attempt to shift blame after she publicly disrespected Akpabio, Nigeria’s number three citizen. Critics argue that rather than owning up to her misconduct, she is playing the victim to gain public sympathy. Social media users have called her actions disgraceful and unbecoming of a senator, demanding that she take responsibility for her behavior instead of engaging in unnecessary legal battles.

Alleged Money Laundering: EFCC Witness Says Yahaya Bello’s Name Not On Property Documents ...Case adjourned to March 6, 7 for continuation of trial The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, adjourned the money laundering case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to March 6 and 7, 2025, for continuation of trial. The court adjourned after the prosecution counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, called his two witnesses, one on subpoena. When Pinheiro, SAN, called the first witness, Segun Joseph Adeleke, the Defendant’s Counsel, Joseph Daudu, SAN, objected, saying that the witness’ name was not included in the initial list of witnesses provided by the prosecution. This, he said, could affect his cross-examination. The trial, however, proceeded and the witness, who identified himself as the General Manager of Efab Properties Limited, was asked to tell the court what he knows about a property on 1, Ikogosi Road, Maitama and another one in Gwarinpa. Adeleke told the court that the name of the former governor did not reflect on any of the two properties being examined on Monday and that he did not sight him throughout the transactions. Giving an account of what transpired, he said sometime in 2020, his chairman, Chief Fabian Nwora, introduced him to a young man called Shehu Bello and that they had a discussion concerning the purchase of the property. “We had a discussion concerning the purchase of the property in question. And he told me that the young man would be coming back to make payment for the property at an agreed price of N550 million,” he said. When asked if he had seen Shehu Bello since that day, he said, “I saw him three times. The first time was for introduction, the second time for payment and the third time was when he brought a legal document for the execution of the EFAB property.” The EFCC lawyer then mentioned another property at 5th Avenue in Gwarinpa and told the witness to tell the court what he knows about it. Responding, the witness said the property was purchased by one Nuhu Mohammed for N70 million and was paid for through a bank transfer. He was asked if he remembered which bank the money came from, but he said no. On cross-examination, the defendant’s counsel, Daudu, SAN, asked if the witness’ actions were purely based on the instructions of his chairman. He responded, “Yes.” The counsel further asked whether it was correct to say that he did not initiate any discussion with Shehu Bello on his own, to which he also answered, “Yes.” On the documents signed for the transactions, the Defendant’s Counsel asked the witness if he could confirm that Shehu Bello signed his own part in his presence. “He did not my Lord,” he answered. Daudu, SAN, also asked: “Throughout this transaction, did you set eye on the defendant?” “Not at anytime in the course of this transaction,” the witness responded. He was also asked if the name of the defendant appeared anywhere on the documents he said were with the EFCC. He, again, answered, “no!” The Prosecution then told the court that they had another witness to call, on subpoena. The Defendant’s Counsel objected that they were being taken by surprise but added that he had no intention of stalling the trial. The second witness identified herself as Williams Abimbola, a compliance officer with the United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA). She had the subpoena with her, which the lawyer sought to tender as evidence. The Defendant’s counsel had no objection and it was marked “Exhibit 1”. The witness read out the documents the subpoena asked for to include the statement of account of Kogi State Government House, from January 1, 2016 to January 31, 2024. The statements of account of Maselina Njoku, from January 1 to December 31, 2022, were also admitted in evidence, including the account opening packages of American International School and statements of accounts, from September 1 to September 30, 2020. Justice Emeka Nwite then adjourned to March 6 and 7, 2025 for continuation of trial. https://www.channelstv.com/2025/02/24/alleged-money-laundering-yahaya-bellos-name-not-on-property-documents-efccs-witness/?fbclid=IwY2xjawIpdlNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHYU83NPLClMqXWd2R5LvUSIOa1LsMT6RtwwFQb2nr1pcP9TQBfWS1dbIbw_aem_VPFcoOyvNdAtSXbKzKSZLA |

By Abdul Mohammed Lawal. One of the biggest tests of a leader is leaving behind a system that keeps working after their term. Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State understood this and made it his mission to mentor future leaders who could continue his work. His efforts led to the rise of Ahmed Usman Ododo as governor, showing how good planning can secure a brighter future for the state. Even though many didn’t see Ododo as the obvious choice, his performance so far has shown that Bello made the right decision. I was inspired to write this article to explore how Yahaya Bello’s leadership and planning gave Kogi State this gift, how Ododo has used what he learned, and the good results the state is seeing today. Governor Yahaya Bello believed that good leadership means preparing for the future. From his first term, he made it clear that his successor would come from the system he built. He gave everyone in his team, from the grassroots to the top, a fair chance to grow and prove themselves as capable leaders. This was different from what happened in the past. For example, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, a former governor of Kogi State, struggled to find a worthy successor from his team. Instead, he chose outsiders with no political experience during the two different 2011 PDP gubernatorial primaries. This decision created problems and slowed the state’s development. Bello wanted to avoid such mistakes. Bello’s planning paid off when Ahmed Usman Ododo emerged as governor. Ododo had worked closely with Bello and understood his style of leadership. His rise wasn’t about being popular but about being capable and ready to lead. This is similar to what happened in Borno State. Governor Babagana Zulum, who was also chosen from within the system, has led Borno successfully, even through tough times. This shows that when a leader is well-prepared, it helps improve governance. Bello’s aim was simple: Kogi needed a leader who could continue the progress and take the state to greater heights. Ahmed Usman Ododo is proof that Bello’s plan has worked. Ododo learned a lot about leadership, making decisions, and running a government from his very active role in the "New Direction" administration. He studied what worked well, what didn’t, and used these lessons to guide his actions as governor. He saw Bello’s focus on building roads, creating jobs, and keeping the state safe, and he has continued in the same direction. Unlike many new leaders who struggle to settle into their roles, Ododo hit the ground running. Because of his experience in Bello’s government, Ododo was ready to lead from his first day in office. He knew what the state needed and started working immediately to deliver results, and this is the defining story of ongoing policies and projects. By learning from the past; both the good and bad, Ododo has avoided common leadership mistakes and is focused on making Kogi better. His first year in office has been one of the most successful in the state’s history, showing how well Bello’s mentoring worked. This has been a beautiful time where supposed critics easily turned into admirers. In his first year as governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has achieved important things that are already making a difference in Kogi State. Despite some earlier doubts, he has shown that he is capable and committed to improving the state. It's a blessing to recount some of these milestones. One of his main achievements has been in building and improving roads. Ododo has worked to expand important road projects that were started before, as well as begin new ones to connect rural areas with cities. This has made travel easier and helped the economy by making it simpler to move goods and services around the state. The past year has seen over 20 road projects across the state, with most of them finished or near completion. In healthcare, his government has improved hospitals and health centres, especially in rural areas. This has allowed more people to access better medical care. The most important of the health initiatives has been the continuous funding of the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and the recent approval for the remodeling of 63 of them across Kogi State. This is in addition to the expansion of the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme (KGHIS) to cover more vulnerable Kogites, including people living with special needs. In education, Ododo has improved school buildings and provided support to teachers in the form of training and work incentives. The State's free education policy from primary to secondary schools has been sustained, with the government paying for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for all Kogites. This is in addition to the continued infrastructural development across state-owned tertiary institutions. His aim is to make sure that all children in Kogi have access to good education, no matter where they live. Additionally, Ododo has made sure that he has made employee welfare a continuous priority. Government workers are paid on time and he has approved a N10,000 harmonization allowance for pensioners, which has helped to restore trust in the government. He has also launched numerous programs to create jobs for young people, giving them the skills they need to build a better future. These achievements show the greatness that Ododo is not just continuing what Bello started, but is also making his own impact. His first year in office tells the story of a leader that is focused on building a better future for everyone. What a beautiful story this has been! This brings me back to the concept of succession planning that is often ignored in Nigerian politics, but it is important for making sure a state continues to grow even after a leader leaves. Governor Yahaya Bello’s decision to prepare Ahmed Usman Ododo as his successor shows the value of choosing a leader who understands the state’s needs and can build on what has already been done. Ododo knows that good leadership means being fair, listening to people, and focusing on results, and he doesn't joke with those lessons. In him, Bello successfully avoided the problems that often happen when new leaders don’t know the state well. This smooth change has helped Ododo continue important projects and bring new ideas that benefit the people of Kogi. Kogi’s experience shows that succession planning is not just helpful, but necessary. By preparing Ododo, who understands the state’s challenges, Bello made sure Kogi would keep moving forward. Ododo’s success shows how important it is to have future leaders ready for the job. To those who are still asking: what has Ododo done in Kogi State aside from paying salaries? I stand to boldly state that Yahaya Bello's greatest gift to Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, is thriving in the business of governance. His leadership shows that when a leader plans for the future, it benefits everyone. Ododo continues to lead and Kogi’s future looks brighter. Thank you, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the gift of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. https://thebureau.com.ng/governor-ododo-yahaya-bellos-greatest-gift-to-kogi-is-flourishing/

The streets of Kogi state were awash with an electric atmosphere as thousands of jubilant supporters lined the roads, waving flags and chanting songs of solidarity. It was a homecoming like no other. Former Governor Yahaya Bello, the man who had weathered a storm of political adversity, returned to his beloved hometown amidst cheers that echoed through the hills of Kogi State. Only days after securing bail in his ongoing case with the EFCC, Bello’s arrival symbolized more than just a legal reprieve—it was a testament to his unwavering connection to his people. Dressed in his signature white kaftan with a matching cap, alongside the incumbent governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and other personalities, he stepped out of his convoy with the confidence of a leader deeply loved by his community. As he made his way to the podium erected in his honor, the crowd erupted into a thunderous ovation. Women adorned in vibrant Ankara fabrics danced with glee, and youth groups carrying banners with inscriptions like *"Yahaya Bello: Our Hero"* chanted, “Sai GYB!” The people led a prayer, thanking God for Bello's safe return and asking for continued strength in his leadership journey. In his speech, Bello did not shy away from addressing the political intrigues surrounding his legal challenges. “This is not just about me,” he declared, his voice steady and resolute. “This is a fight for justice, fairness, and the future of Nigeria”. He seized the moment to reiterate his commitment to all round development of Kogi state through his successor, emphasizing ongoing projects in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. “We will not be deterred. Together, we will make changes that stand tall in Nigeria—a beacon of unity and progress,” he vowed, eliciting chants of approval from the sea of supporters. Behind the fanfare, the political undertones were unmistakable. Observers noted that Bello’s return was as much a demonstration of his political strength as it was a homecoming. Key allies from across the state and even Abuja were present, signaling their allegiance and staking their claims in the unfolding political drama. As the sun set over Okene, casting a golden hue over the celebrations, one thing was clear: Yahaya Bello’s return was not just a moment of personal triumph. It was a declaration that, despite the trials ahead, he remained a force to be reckoned with in Nigeria’s political landscape. For the people of Kogi, it was a day of pride and hope—a reminder that their leader was back, ready to continue the fight for their future. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z4k1-h3n64?si=5-rWyXSK0LzNJIxB

Tinubu’s Political Chess Game President Tinubu’s strategic politicking reportedly involved leveraging Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to thwart Nasir El-Rufai’s ministerial ambitions. Bello allegedly influenced Senator Sunday Karimi to oppose El-Rufai's nomination during the Senate’s screening, citing national security concerns. This move deepened cracks in APC's northern bloc. However, Bello’s ambition to seek APC’s national chairmanship reportedly irked Tinubu, prompting a swift response. Soon after, the EFCC intensified probes into Bello's financial dealings, signaling political retribution. By the time the dust settled, El-Rufai was sidelined, Bello politically weakened, and Tinubu’s influence strengthened. Critics view it as a masterclass in power play, underscoring Tinubu’s deft control of party politics and his readiness to neutralize allies and rivals alike. |

As Nigeria braces for the 2027 presidential election, the political landscape under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unraveling in ways that suggest a dramatic decline in support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) across key states, including Kogi and Kaduna. Political betrayals, alleged politically motivated prosecutions, worsening economic hardship, and a growing sense of disenchantment among the electorate have created a volatile storm that could cost Tinubu and his allies the presidency.https://www.pulse.ng/news/politics/2027-tinubu-warned-of-consequences-of-betraying-el-rufai-yahaya-bello/7vyjdph

Jesutega Onokpasa, a lawyer and outspoken supporter of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, has once again defended the embattled politician amidst fraud allegations. In a fiery interview, Onokpasa downplayed the accusations, attributing them to political rivalries within Kogi State. “What did Yahaya even do? This is just about the politics of Kogi State, whether Usman Ododo will come back or not. We’re the members of the party. We know what’s going on,” he asserted. He questioned the validity of the fraud charges against Bello, who is accused by the EFCC of misappropriating over N110 billion during his tenure as governor. “Which money did Yahaya steal? From where? How much money is in Kogi State?” Onokpasa asked rhetorically, dismissing the charges as baseless and politically motivated. Reaffirming his loyalty to Bello, Onokpasa made his position clear with an impassioned statement. “I’m with Yahaya Bello; anybody who doesn’t like it can go to Sapele and jump into River Etiok. It’s the deepest river in West Africa.” His remarks reflect a deep-rooted conviction that the allegations against Bello are part of a larger political agenda within their party. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpSGDLMosQ8?si=wmQA-ZsQBL-EUlKS |
Leadership is often seen as a fragile bridge of trust; built with vision, maintained with integrity, and, most times, tested by the actions of others. His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, is an example of the strength needed to overcome such tests. His leadership in Kogi State broke barriers, empowered ordinary people, and set a "New Direction" for governance. Yet, it was not without its share of betrayals, challenges, and eventual redemption.
