Jannyfranc:
How to get job easily, please someone in Georgia or within should suggest website for teaching and Lecturing.
There's a website devoted to advertising open faculty positions across the US. It's called Higher Ed Jobs. You can click or copy and paste the link to their website in your browser: https://www.higheredjobs.com/

If you sign up and create an account on the Higher Ed Jobs website, you will get job alerts sent to your email regularly based on your interest and the search criteria you set forth in your profile.

Also, if you are a member of a professional body that organizes annual meetings and conferences, they tend to have a job board on their website that you can review for open positions in academia. Don't forget LinkedIn and even Google. Handshake is another website that you can explore for jobs in general. I'm not sure if you will be able to access Handshake if you are not a student in the US. Students in the US are usually able to log in and create a profile using their institutional email address. The link to Handshake is here: https://joinhandshake.com/students/whos-hiring/
All of these will keep you busy.

Do not worry about transcript evaluation for a specific job just yet. If you obtained a terminal degree in the US, you may not need it. If you obtained your degree outside the US, you still may not need a transcript evaluation, unless the selection committee is having a tough time deciphering your courses and interpreting your grades. If they need it evaluated, they will let you know after your application has been reviewed and prior to or during your interview. Now, if your transcript is in a language other than English, an evaluation will be necessary. Hope this helps.

johnnypaul927: Hello House, i want advise from you as i am in a critical situation right now. in the first place, i applied for visitors visa in January to visit my sponsor who has been sponsoring me in seminary (am a seminarian) and she and her sisters are both from New York, not a Nigerian. Then, i was denied. I reapplied again that same month for visitors visa, i was also denied. Then i suggested i go for student visa which i did and got admitted in a private four year college in New York to study Psychology and wrote IELTS of which i got 6.0 and because the school cut is 6.5 i was required to go for a 6-week English Program in an English international school. So the school had to issue me an i20 which is for six weeks and tuition was 5,070 dollars and they also stated in student personal fund 4,000 dollars. I was required to resume there July 14, i booked appointment and went for the interview on the 7th and was denied.
Johnnypaul, I agree with what Rijo advised. As it stands presently, you have applied for a visa three times this year alone and you have been denied each of those times. A number of reasons could be responsible for this. You were either unable to convince your interviewer beyond any reasonable doubt or maybe you appeared desperate. The interviewer has to be very certain that you're going for the purpose you stated but more importantly, that you will be returning to the country! I read something awhile ago on the American Embassy website and the gist of what was said was that consular officers have been trained to make visa decisions based on the interviews applicants have to undergo. In other words, it's one thing to have the necessary documents but it's another to have the ability to be convincing at the interview.

Rijo (or maybe someone else, not so sure) highlighted all the parts where you were asked about the English Intensive Course. Don't you think there must have been a reason why the VO kept harping on that point. The VO probably felt (I can't be sure) it was very unnecessary to have to travel to the US just to learn English when there are fantastic places here where you could do just that.

Here's what I think you should do which someone else has also mentioned. I think you should wait for awhile because applying 4 times in a year will make you appear not just desperate but super-desperate and this could ruin future chances because they just might flag your name. Try and finish your degree here then apply to the US for graduate studies. Alternatively, you could apply to other countries for Bachelor's (at least you'll be out of naija) and return to the US for graduate studies. In short, avoid going to the US embassy for awhile. All the best sir.

Datanonymous: Hello house, All Glory and honour to God in the highest. Him and only Him deserves all praise. VISA was approved on Monday 7th July, Got it today. Umh... Sorry I'm just pasting my transcript, I just needed to complete it right so I wouldn't miss any detail out.
Now, my transcript is going to be a little explicative and detailed than the usual, pardon me for the space.

Pre-Interview Day
Pre-Interview day was Sunday, I took a ride to the embassy in the evening around 5 pm to get a feel of the place and familiarize myself with the surroundings, when I got there, I met with the security men, told them I had an appointment for 6:30 am the next day and they told me I had to be around like day 5:30 – 6 am. I took a stroll around the building while claiming my ground there then went home to sleep.

Interview Day:
Woke up 3:30am I barely slept though, had my bath, dressed up clean in a black suit, white shirt and red tie to match, literally bathed myself in my 1million cologne and set off at 4:20am. The drive was smooth, no hold up n shi. I was the first to arrive the embassy around 5am sharp! I actually got there too early, took my sit down and waited, then people started coming one after the other, and within say 15-30 mins after, the place was getting filled.
As I said before, as much as possible, I'm not missing out any detail here for those that would be going, I need you to have an idea of where you are going before you get there.

6:00am: We all got lined up, normal search went on at the check point and then we were asked to line up in front of the walkway that leads to the pavilion. (Put ur i20, sevis fee receipt, application confirmation page, ds190 confirmation page, 1passport photograph inside ur passport at this point).

6:20 am: Walkway was opened, we were checked inside the pavilion, our docs were checked again followed by another body check then we crossed the embassy road into the embassy building.
OK... I actually stopped checking my time at this point, was getting a little anxious.

INTERVIEW HALL

Inside the Embassy:
Was asked to drop belt, wrist watch, wallet, and everything metallic in a bowl, walk past a scanner, my stuffs passed through a scanner too after which I got my belt and stuffs back.
Then took a walk into the main interview building, picked a number A015 and moved into the interview hall.

Inside the Interview Hall:
The number I picked came up... I moved to the counter number on which it came up, my passport containing the earlier documents was collected (please sign your i20 before this stage or you might be sent out to sign it, this could kick you off balance, don't get disorganized), my appointment confirmation page and sevis receipt were handed back to me after which I took my sit waiting for thumb printing.
After a while my number came up again on another window, (be alert and attentive), walked towards the window, four left fingers first, followed by right four fingers and then the two thumbs simultaneously.
After this, was the Ghenghen stage... The interview

Within the next few mins, the interview started and numbers started popping up...
I was sitting few seats away from the chinko guy's window and Mehn that guy is crazy. He approved the visa of the first lady he interviewed and denied every other person he interviewed till I left.... I was literally feeling my heart in my mouth and seriously praying my number doesn't pop up on his window, the rest were issuing and denying but that guy prolly made up his mind to give the first and deny the rest... After a while, my number popped up and it wasn't the chinko guy but a gentle looking young dude.... Here is my interview transcript

Me: Good Morning sir!

VO: Morning *looking into his computer screen*

Me: Umh... How was ur Independence Day celebration. (US independence was Friday, 4th July, My interview was Monday).

VO: looks up, shrugs, blushes, gave a big grin and said... It was OK... Thanks

Me: I smiled too *in my mind I said I Don get u today* (Confidence was beaming in me at this point)

VO: So why do u want to go to Oklahoma State University?

Me: Well, I graduated from Physiology from *school name* medical school with a second class upper degree, umh...

VO: *cuts in* u went to medical school?

Me: Yes, the medical school encompasses several courses as medicine, Physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pharmacology... Blablabla...

VO: *nods head*

Me: *continued* so during my final year thesis, I did a research on cardiovascular physiology which is a branch of physiology I have developed great passion for and wish to specialize in. however, I was limited in this research because my school and faculty lacked the necessary equipments to conduct a standard research and this made me determine to want to become a lecturer and a researcher so I can get an opportunity to conduct researches of my own which require me having a masters degree and I feel the best place to get that degree is the USA.

VO: *was looking at me concentrated all the while, me sef no blink, I Dey stare am for eyes* ok... OK... What branch did u say u want to specialize in?

Me: Cardiovascular Physiology

VO: can u tell me what that means?

Me: *for my mind, I Don finish you here today, nah my field* :p Well cardiovascular Physiology basically is the study of the heart and blood vessels and how they work, when I say blood vessels I mean, arteries, veins, arterioles, venules... *vo cuts in*

VO: ok... Ok... So what have u been doing since u graduated?

Me: I just graduated few months back

VO: so what did u do to get this admission?

Me: Well I did some standardized tests, I did the GRE and TOEFL, I have my scorecards here, do I bring them?

VO: Yes please, let me see your GRE

Me: *passes scorecard* *he was checking through and typing simultaneously* had 149 verbal, 156 quantitative, 4.5 analytical writing, TOEFL... 109, he didn't check TOEFL*

VO: What courses will u do in ur first semester?

Me: fundamentals in medical Physiology, fundamentals in medical pharmacology and biochemistry, 3 courses, 3 credit hours each... Making 9 credit hours per semester.

VO: *nods* *hands back my gre scorecard* so who is going to pay?

Me: My mum would be sponsoring me, she is a commissioner in my state, I have her bank statement, payslips and statement of support here, do I bring them?

VO: no don't worry... * types for a few seconds* Then said... YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED!!! pick it up on Thursday, * hands me my i20 and the white form*

Me: Thanks with a big grin! I pack my stuffs and literally run out... Immediately I got out I comot tie, unbutton that tight neck button, con walk comot.

Met a cool guy there whose visa also got approved, going to Indiana. As I was walking towards the car park... The security guys just Dey talk congratulations congratulations... Lol I noh sabi ao Dem take know... Prolly cos of the way I was walking tho... Like Denzel Washington!

Anyways... Umh.... Imma drop a few personal hints here...
1) Fast and Pray
2) Fast and Pray
3) Fast and Pray (3 days dey enough, you won’t die trust me, u go chop all u want when u get to the USA… lol)
4) Be confident
Confidence is key Mehn it can't be overemphasized... U have to know what u going to the US to do, be emphatic and articulate with ur responses.
5) Practice.... I practiced with my mum, my brother and my mirror... Looking straight into their eyes and mine in the mirror.
6) Read this thread... Basically the transcripts are enormously helpful there is nothing they gon ask u that’s not on this thread already.
7) Get there early *nurtures ur confidence*
cool Have all documents ready and follow all instructions strictly.
9) Anticipate the questions, you know what they gon ask u already, give them what they want before they ask, eg: I told him my mum was gon sponsor, I didn’t wait for him to ask what she does before I told him, also I already told him my undergrad course, what I wanted to do after my masters program and established little bit of home ties from just one question. This should go a long way to reduce the questions asked. *MY OPINION*
9) Thank God... And believe they have no reason to deny you... They want u to go, they need ur money, they need to fill up spaces and u already have a space with ur admission. Your visas would be issued by God's grace!!! Amen!!!

Image 1 is a sketch of the Embassy building.
Image 2 is a sketch of the interview hall.

Thanks to everyone on this thread!!! Everyone has been awesome!!! Wish everyone ALL of the best!!!
These VISAs are there to be given to us, they are ours, Lets get’em all!!! NL will dominate!!!
#PeaceOut!!!
Congratulations Datanonymous! The bolded parts got me seriously cracking up. You wan scatter VO head with arteries and veins ehn. Thank God for you, it was worth it.

Stewee: Congrats To All of You Guys that got a visa recently.

Is anyone going to Florida?

What are those things one need to shop for here before I travel? I like to travel light though.

Where to get flight ticket to Florida?

Abeg guru's help out.
Well, you'll need to go with sufficient clothes that you can wear for a couple of weeks. If you've got money though, 3/4 change of clothes should suffice since you'll be hitting the stores at the earliest opportunity. It works somehow like this, the richer you are, the lighter you travel. Find out what the weather forecast is for Florida, at least for the first week you'll be there and pack suitable clothing.

Imma give this next point a line of its own. DO NOT forget any document you think you might need, this might end up putting you in a state of mind you don't want to be in.

For flights, I use wakanow. This is the link right here: http://www.wakanow.com/ng/

Have a safe trip.

Samsleek7: Yea they asked for a letter of recommendation but only from my high school principal. other docs. are high school transcripts and then the ALL MIGHTY BANK STATEMENT. one problem though! They asked that the transcripts be sent directly from the school. don't know how to come of that.
I don't know what school you finished from, but I know that if you inform your school(some schools anyway) and give them the address you need it sent to, they'll send it. You'll need to pay for postage though. The school I finished from can't be bothered about sending anything. I love that school regardless. So I applied for transcript and paid d necessary fees, I recruited someone who went almost every week to check if the transcripts were ready and collected them for me. I posted them to the schools I wanted myself. So find out the transcript procedure in ur school, you need to know whether they post them to schools or you do that yourself. In my school, transcripts come in the official school envelope, all you have to do is put it in a bigger envelope and post to d school. As long as the transcript and its envelope haven't been tampered with, ur US school would most likely accept it. Hope this helps.

Just a question, please did you get any find from the school you going or the doctorate will be solely funded by Dad? Thank you
Thank you Mjseun. No, I haven't received any funding yet. Lol...No, it won't be solely funded by him. Reason is graduate students usually get funded, if not in their first year (prolly due to scarcity of grants/funds) then later on in the program if they perform excellently. Hope this helps.

Thank you Feexo. You can check for prices on wakanow. Just type wakanow.com into your browser or google. Another way to check is to go to the airline's website, click on flights and fill in the boxes. Nobody goes all the way to the airport to find out prices anymore Feexo. stevecrun: no university in the United States takes in for fall 2014 again.

My brother,i would not advice you chill as you've stated above.Kindly, start searching for schools and cities of your choice directing your search towards your intended course of study and apply for Spring. Our individual choices differ coz i can't read minds,so i can't give you schools and states you would want.

And talking about those standardized tests, you can't escape them.Because,if your schools waive them for you,the visa officers usually ask for them in most scenarios. So,write at least one.
Goodluck,on your search.
Like Stevecrun said, you can't chill just yet, you'll have enough time to chill when you've submitted all your applications. Putting an application together is quite stressful, especially if you're applying to several schools almost at the same time. Please start arranging your documents, references, statements, etc because they're time consuming and require alot of patience.

Samsleek7: Thank you very much Olumide! Congratulations on your Visa interview man! I can see you aced it! I want to study medical related courses. About the bank statement, is it not a strong requirement for admission? can I gain admission without the statement? cos they stated explicitly that they really need it. can u recommend schools for me that won't ask for it? please bear with me, I'm a newbie
Thank you Samsleek. A bank statement is a strong requirement like Stevecrun said. They need to know whether or not you can bear that financial responsibility. All schools ask for it eventually, the point at which they ask is just different. For example, in my application to Rhode Island and Texas A & M, a bank statement was not required during the admission review process, it came much later. I'd previously read on their websites that if the faculty had decided to consider me for admission, they'll then ask for my bank statement and original copies of my transcript. That's exactly what happened.

Lol, I'm also a newbie...I'm not yet 24hrs old. I don't know of any school that won't require it eventually. Hope this helps.

olumide098: Thanks my sake! I dont think big document can be required as such like dat...if u know required document plz let me know
You're very much welcome my sake. I also agree that you might not need any serious documentation since it's just a transit visa. I've never applied for transit visa so my knowledge is very limited. Regardless, these are the usual documents needed to apply for a visitors visa to the UK: Bank statement, pay slips, marriage certificate (if u're married), children's birth certificates, letter of invitation, any document that'll show you have strong ties to Nigeria (in addition to the marriage and children's birth certificates), some folks also go with a letter of appointment from their employers. All these docs will be in addition to the online application form you printed out, passport and passport photos. In your instance, you must at least go with your passport, passport photos, application form, bank statement, letter of invitation, maybe a copy of your flight itinerary and a copy of your US admission letter. If anything else comes to mind, I'll update the list. Hope this helps.

olumide098: Ok..i will apply brian, just that i dont know much when it comes to UK tinx...it means i will pay 13,500 naira at the UK airport or i should package application and submit to VHS with all require documents i do not know nothing about...baba need information to proceed sharp sharp. thanks Slimmy
Olumide, you can't pay at the UK airport. Fill the online application, u'll get payment instructions when you get to that part of the application (you'll pay online),once payment is completed then you'll be asked to print out your completed application form. Go with your form and supporting documents to VAC (Visa Application Center). Warning: The application form is quite long so chop well before settling down to fill it. All the best.

Samsleek7: I wrote the SAT and got 1543! I want to apply to universities that still pick admit for Fall 2014! I get stuck wen it comes to paying application fee and the bank statement ish. must u submit thesame bank statements to the universities and the VO? please which universities are still admitting for fall 2014?
Relax Samsleek, you need to tackle these issues one after the other. I don't think universities are still receiving applications for Fall 2014. The Fall we're talking about is August/September. Who knows, there might be that rare university who is still receiving applications...you'll need to spend hours on the internet to find that one university. What you can do is get ready to apply during the next admission cycle, which is Winter. For Winter, deadlines are fast approaching. By the way, what course do you want to study? First, you need to find schools that offer that course, secondly, find out if they admit students for Winter so you can apply for Winter(scour the schools website).

About bank statements, you berra wait till you get admission. You can use the same statement if the interview date is quite close to the date you got that statement from the bank. This is rarely the case because it takes awhile (usually months from my personal experience) for the school to get back to you on their admission decision. It'll take sometime before you get your I-20. It'll take some weeks before you're ready to go for interview. With all this weeks and months here and there, that statement might no longer be recent. It's best to get a statement that's fairly recent. At most, a month old. If you can get a statement that's just 3-5 days old, perfect. Just my two cents.
