Dear Nairalanders, Please I need your opinion on the above subject. Which is better to be used between Interlocking stones and Granite coated with Bitumen (pupularly known as tarred) in a close located in an estate and measuring 650 meters long and 7 meters wide. Also, (1) What is the cost implication of the better option based on the dimension given above. (2) What are the pros and cons of using any of the preferred option. Thanks in anticipation for your contribution. |

[quote author=Iolo post=27094712] I think you should try to understand where blank is coming from cause I have read some of both your posts and in many cases she is right except for the 13 month being a salary. I won't necessarily say who I am but let's say that I've worked as part of a team that designed and developed a software that helps companies handle staff payroll in Nigeria. To start with KiksAsso, I don't mean to demean your tax knowledge in any way but I think you have knowledge gaps on this. The applicable/existing tax law in Nigeria is called Personal Income Tax Act (PAYE or PITAM as it's also called) and it was last amended in 2011 to its present implementation. Under the Pay As You Earn law, every employee is given tax relief only on tax exempt items and Statutory Deductions. Based on PAYE 2011, the only tax exempt items are statutory deductions and contributions by the staff towards: 1. Pension 2. Gratuity 3. Life Insurance 4. NHF 5. NHIS Let me be clear and state that the intent of the law is that all allowances, basic salary, or whatever monies that are credited to a staff except for those stated above are taxable with the exemption of reimbursements which shouldn't appear on a Payslip. Now I have explained the true intent of the law but as we all know, how the law is implemented is another thing. In my experience some companies use the Basic Housing & Transport alone while some others leave out a few allowances and bonuses. As a payroll consultant, my standard advice is that all monies listed on a Payslip is taxable. Most companies manipulate how much they pay as PAYE so they have a chance to under declare their incomes and pay less corporate tax or so that they can under-declare how much they pay in salaries on the Form H1 (P.A.Y.E Employer Annual Declaration and Certificate) they file to LIRS/FIRS at the end of each tax year. I apologize for the typos. On mobile, it's late and am real sleepy. I hope somebody reading this finds it helpful. #Edited for clarity. [/quote Thanks a lot for the clarification. But be that as it may, please don't forget that leave allowance don't appear on pay slip. Is it supposed to be taxed at the point of payment. I mean for an employee who will be due for his annual leave in November and the leave allowance is going to be paid in November, what should be the take home leave allowance if the gross leave allowance is N110,000?. Thanks. |

I find it hard to believe that a government will inflate the prices of Toyota LandCruiser and Toyota Corolla to the amount stated. Toyota LandCruiser---------------N25m-- Toyota Corolla--------------------N7m--? What a country filled with corrupt souls. |

Once you are not sure of a subject matter, it is better not to say anything than to say something that will pull another person's post down. There are better ways of even advising a Poster who might have made a mistake in his post to correct such mistakes. |

House! I'm just begining to view this situation from another perspective. To lawyers in the house comes this question. "If a person or persons sell a genuine percel of land to another party, is it fair to ask the seller to sign an undertaking for a refund in a situatio where the buyer builds on a wrong plot?. |
Politics / I'm Not A Fraudster, Says Ex-lagos Deputy Gov by oluseg2: 7:43am On Jun 22, 2013 |
2013-06-22 00:58:39 Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, has maintained that she is innocent of the allegation of fraud levelled against her and her son, Samson. In a statement made available to Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, Ojikutu denied that she and Samson obtained N130m under false pretences from the complainant, Mr. Cajetan Okekearu. She claimed that the said amount was collected under genuine circumstances for the sale of a plot of land to Okekearu. According to the statement, the said plot belonging to Ojikutu and her late husband, Sampson Ojikutu, is Block 4, Plot 24, Lekki Peninsula Residential Scheme, Phase 1. It, however, accused the complainant of constructing on a wrong plot of land – plot 23 – which is the adjoining plot. The statement, which was signed by Ojikutu's solicitors, B. Ayorinde and Co., read in part, "That subsequently, Mr. Cajetan Okekearu commenced construction on Block 4, Plot 23, Lekki Residential Scheme Phase1, the land adjoining Block 4, Plot 24, Lekki Residential Scheme Phase 1, whereupon one Afolabi A. A. Coker successfully challenged Mr. Okekearu's entry onto the land. "It was after the events above that our clients discovered for the first time that Mr. Okekearu had built on Block 4, Plot 23, Lekki Residential Scheme Phase 1 instead of Block 4, Plot 24, Lekki Residential Scheme Phase 1." Ojikutu maintained that she and her son had relied on the authority of a Letter of Administration (without a will) granted by the Probate Registry of the Lagos State High Court in 2010 with reference no PHC/2114/2010, "pursuant to which my aforesaid son and me are the administrators of my aforesaid late husband's estate, which includes the said land." The statement further said that Alhaja Ojikutu had signed an undertaking to refund N130m to Okekearu, and had already paid N50m out of the said amount. Also in the statement, Ojikutu's lawyers maintained that she had legal rights to the land as its joint owner, and therefore, had the prerogative to sell following her husband's death in 2008. It also denied that Ojikutu ever used the said land in any transaction prior to when the land was sold to Okekearu. Earlier in the week, the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police had declared the former deputy governor wanted for allegedly defrauding a land buyer of N130m. The SFU alleged that the suspect and her son, Samson, fraudulently obtained the money from Okekearu by selling a plot of land belonging to one Mr. Afolabi, to the complainant. The police also accused Ojikutu of jumping bail and not willing to abide by the terms of payment, which should have had her completely refund Okekearu by November 2012. Meanwhile, Ojikutu is away in the United States of America and so far, there is no indication of when she intends to return to the country, in spite of her status as a wanted citizen. She directed all questions from Saturday PUNCH to her lawyer, Mr. Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), who did not pick his calls or respond to a text message to his phone. |

micklplus: 10 litres should give you about 62mpg according to the manufacturer ( HONDA)Thanks Mickplus. I recently replaced the spark plugs but I don't think the thermostat is in place now since the two fans have been connected on continuous rotation. However, I will have to check the oxygen sensor as advised. 9icetoo: Does your car show any symptoms of being faulty? Does it give out black or white smoke when u accelerate? (you can tell a close friend to trail u and observe or u can park the car and have someone rev it slightly while u observe the tail pipe). Does it idle roughly? When u r stopped in traffic, where does your needle point to on the rpm instrument display? Answers to these questions might help us narrow down the cause of ur fuel issue. cheers. 2.2 is a small engine compared to what most cars come with these days. My 2.4 litre engine still does 19 mpg. I have a lightfoot by the way. Nicetoo! Thanks for your contribution. Actually, the car does not smoke and there is no sign of engine wear. The only thing I can confirm is that the vehicle idles roughly with the rpm droping to like 400 sometimes thus disallowing me from using the A/c. My Mechanic had to adjust the engine speed few days ago and it's 1200rpm at idle. This I understand can result to high fuel consumption but the bottom line is that the problem of high fuel consumption has always been there even before he adjusted it. What do you think might be responsible?. |

Dear Nairalanders! Please I need suggestion as to how I can overcome the problem of excessive fuel consumption of my Honda Accord 1997 model popularly called Bulldog. The vehicle runs on like 10 liters of fuel for a journey covering about 35km( i.e Akowonjo-Egbeda area of Lagos State to Oregun in Ikeja and back to Akowonjo) and this is really frustrating. Please what can I do to remedy the situation taking into consideration the fact that the journey combined together takes like 3 hours due to traffic holdup?. Below is the designed specification of the car. Transmission: Lock-up/Automatic/4 Speed Engine Size: 2.2 litres Fuel Mileage(City): 12.4 Litres/100km Fuel Mileage(Highway): 8.7 Litres/100km Fuel Mileage(Combined): 10.2 Litres/100km[s] |

I can recall that sometime in 2008, I was invited for an interview by APM Terminals for the position of Crane Mechanic. I, alongside other interviewees was asked individually one similar question '' WHAT IS A TURBO CHARGER?. I don't really know the position you applied for but I have decided to state this and I believe it might be useful to anyone going in for technical role. I want to believe the company attaches great importance to Turbo Charger since it is a major part of diesel engines that increases efficiency of machines. |

I don't see anything wrong in Falana's planned action. Some companies that are not as big as Dangote Group have insurance policies (I.e Group Life Insurance Scheme) which is made against death while in service. The compensation is paid to the recognized Next of kin in the eventual death of the employee. Why should Dangote find it difficult to adopt this?. |
