MATAWALLE SLAMS AMAECHI FOR INCITING VIOLENCE - …“Stop Weaponizing Our People’s Pain”

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, H. E Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, MON, has condemned in the strongest terms recent statements made by Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting violence and unrest among the Nigerian populace. Dr. Matawalle issued a stern warning to the former Minister of Transport, urging him to desist from making inflammatory remarks that threaten the peace and stability of the nation.

In addition, the Minister expressed deep concern over the dangers posed by such rhetoric. “It is both reckless and irresponsible for a former public servant of Amaechi’s standing to incite Nigerians against their own government,” Dr. Matawalle said. “At a time when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working tirelessly to address the challenges facing the nation through various reforms that are yielding results. It is absurd, preposterous, and shameful for anyone to exploit the genuine situation of our citizens for selfish political gain.”


The Minister further reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commitment to safeguarding the peace and security of every Nigerian, warning that any attempts to destabilize the country through incitement will not be tolerated. “We will not allow anyone to fuel violence or manipulate the prevailing situation of our people. Let this serve as a final warning to Amaechi and his cohorts,” Dr. Matawalle stated emphatically.

Matawalle cautioned Amaechi not to cast aspersions on government genuine intentions for the people. It is expected that Amaechi joins hand with the government to move the country forward. Rather, he chose to stay aside with myopic assertions.

Take, for instance, the transformative impact of NASENI’s vehicle conversion project, an example of Halilu’s visionary leadership. In a bustling workshop in Abuja, engineers work tirelessly to convert vehicles from petrol or diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG). The hum of machinery fills the air, mingling with the scent of oil and fresh paint, as cars undergo remarkable transformations aimed at reducing emissions and slashing fuel costs. This innovative project not only addresses rising fuel prices but also tackles environmental concerns, offering a practical solution for drivers and businesses alike. During a private demonstration of NASENI’s refurbished tractors, Halilu watched as a skeptical farmer climbed into the driver’s seat. Troops Neutralize Bello Turji’s Second-in-Command, Key Commanders in Northwest Offensive

The Nigerian Armed Forces have dealt a significant blow to the notorious terrorist network led by Bello Turji in the Northwest region of the country. In an ongoing military operation codenamed Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops neutralized Turji’s second-in-command, Aminu Kanawa, along with several key commanders and close allies.

According to a statement released by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the operation was carried out between Jan. 20 and 21, targeting terrorist hideouts across Sokoto and Zamfara states.

“Troops successfully neutralized Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to Bello Turji, and inflicted terminal injuries on Dosso (Bello Turji’s younger brother) and Danbokolo, one of Turji’s closest allies. Additionally, several commanders, including Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, Dan Kane, Basiru Yellow, Kabiru Gebe, Bello Buba, and Dan Inna Kahon-Saniya-Yafi-Bahaushe, were neutralized,” the statement read.

The operation also resulted in the elimination of over 24 fleeing terrorists from Turji’s camp in the Gebe and Isa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Sokoto State, as well as the Gidan Rijiya area in Shinkafi LGA, Zamfara State.

In a separate encounter around the Fakai high ground, troops neutralized Suleiman, a loyalist of the late terrorist leader Halilu Sububu. Suleiman, who was leading a reinforcement team to rescue Turji’s camp, was killed during a firefight.

Major General Buba described the neutralization of Turji’s second-in-command, his close allies, and several key commanders as a significant setback to the terrorist network. He noted that the group had been responsible for numerous kidnappings and attacks across the Northwest, particularly in Zurmi, Shinkafi, Isa, and Sabon Birni LGAs of Zamfara and Sokoto states.

“Troops remain resolute in their mission to completely dismantle these terrorist groups and create an atmosphere of safety and security for all citizens,” Buba stated.

Reforms and Fiscal Gains Signal Nigeria’s Economic Recovery - Wale Edun

Nigeria’s economy is making significant strides in recovery and growth, as highlighted by the Honourable Minister of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, during his 2025 budget defence before the Senate Committee on Finance. The Minister was joined by the Honourable Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, the Accountant General of the Federation, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, as well as directors from the Federal Ministry of Finance, as they outlined the administration’s efforts to stabilise the economy through key reforms and fiscal measures.

HM Edun highlighted the broad impact of reforms, including the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market, deregulation of petroleum pricing, and the expansion of domestic refining capacity. These measures are driving fiscal stability, reducing inefficiencies, and creating a more sustainable economic framework.

The Honourable Minister acknowledged that while the reforms may bring short-term discomfort, their long-term benefits will include job creation, poverty reduction, and greater economic resilience. He also emphasised the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly in digital networks and energy, to improve productivity and attract private sector investments.

The Senate Committee on Finance approved the Ministry’s ₦38 billion 2025 budget, commending the Ministry’s leadership for its commitment to fiscal discipline and economic recovery. HM Edun expressed confidence in Nigeria’s brighter economic future, noting that the reforms will transform the country’s economic landscape and improve the standard of living for its citizens.

Youth Minister Receives Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties, Assures Inclusive Governance

Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, today, received the Forum of National Youth Leaders of Political Parties in his office to discuss the action plan to tackle challenges faced by youth in Nigeria.


The leadership of the Forum expressed their admiration for the leadership style and the open-door policy of the Minister, recognizing that the youth of Nigeria now have an important link to the government.


The Forum also commended the Minister for successfully uniting various youth wings of political parties across Nigeria to engage in discussions on youth development and capacity building in the country.

In his remarks, the Minister stressed the need for a new approach to governance, urging everyone to move beyond traditional political practices and party affiliations.


“There’s a country before a party, and we must come together to support, empower, and protect the youth of this nation through the effective use of our leadership skills,” the Minister stated.



Olawande equally highlighted the importance of support from youth leaders in advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda; while encouraging members of the Forum to create more opportunities for youth to thrive across the political parties.


On the upcoming National Youth Conference, the Minister assured of a wholly inclusive process, assuring the Forum of full participation of its members before, during, and after the confab.


He also emphasized to the visiting youth leaders the need to join hands with the government to achieve the objectives of the youth conference; and the larger plans of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigerian youth.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE SUBNATIONAL CONSULTATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL TAX REFORM COMMITTEE.

We, members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and
presidential tax reform committee, convened on the 16th of January
2025 to deliberate on critical national issues, including the reform of
Nigeria’s fiscal policies and tax system, and arrived at the following
resolutions:

1. The Forum reiterated its strong support for the comprehensive
reform of Nigeria’s archaic tax laws. Members acknowledged
the importance of modernizing the tax system to enhance fiscal
stability and align with global best practices.

2. The Forum endorsed a revised Value Added Tax (VAT)
sharing formula to ensure equitable distribution of resources:

o 50% based on equality,
o 30% based on derivation, and
o 20% based on population.

3. Members agreed that there should be no increase in the VAT
rate or reduction in Corporate Income Tax (CIT) at this time, to
maintain economic stability. The Forum advocated for the
continued exemption of essential goods and agricultural
produce from VAT to safeguard the welfare of citizens and
promote agricultural productivity.

4. The meeting recommended that there should be no terminal
clause for TETFUND, NASENI, and NITDA in the sharing of
development levies in the bills.

5. The meeting supports the continuation of the legislative
process at the National Assembly that will culminate in. the
eventual passage of the Tax Reform Bills.

OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: COORDINATED AIR-GROUND ASSAULT DEVASTATES TURJI'S STRONGHOLD ON FAKAI HILLS, NEUTRALISES SCORES OF FIGHTERS

Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has delivered a crushing blow to banditry in Zamfara State, through a devastatingly well-coordinated air-ground assault executed on 10 January 2025. Air strikes and synchronized ground assaults at Fakai Hills decimated scores of bandits, leaving many others gravely wounded. This bold operation underscored the unwavering resolve of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to restore peace and security to the region.

Local intelligence reports confirmed that the bandits, loyal to notorious leader Kachallah Bello Turji, suffered heavy casualties. Scores of bandits were neutralized, while many others, including some top commanders, sustained varying degrees of injuries. Sequel to the fierce engagement, Kachallah Turji's whereabouts remain unknown, adding further pressure on his crumbling network.

The operation was meticulously executed, with real-time coordination from an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform overhead, ensuring accurate target correlation. The identified targets were swiftly engaged using rockets and cannons in multiple passes, delivering devastating blows to the enemy. The aircrew maintained visual and radio contact with the ground troops. The bandits, in a desperate bid to escape, were observed fleeing eastward of the hill, prompting further engagements that successfully neutralized additional targets.

This resounding success has been met with widespread celebrations from locals in Zamfara State, who expressed relief and gratitude for the operation’s positive impact. In a heartening outcome, several kidnapped victims were also freed, bringing hope to many families affected by the banditry.

Federal Lawmaker Toyin Fayinka Begins 2025 with Commissioning of Projects and Award of Grants to 500 Constituents

As the world ushers in the new year 2025, Hon. Toyin Fayinka, representing Mushin Federal Constituency II, has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare and prosperity of his constituents. The lawmaker marked the beginning of the year by commissioning several impactful projects and awarding cash grants to 500 beneficiaries to help them start businesses of their choice.

The commissioned projects include the total rehabilitation of the Administrative Block at Mushin General Hospital, the construction of blocks of classrooms for primary school students in the Idi-Araba community, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights on major roads within the constituency.

In his remarks, Hon. Fayinka noted that the projects and cash grants were part of his dedication to fostering inclusive economic growth, sustainable development, and improved access to healthcare for his constituents. He emphasized that leadership is not just a title but a responsibility and trust bestowed upon him to serve and uplift the community.

“Before my election to represent this constituency, I received numerous calls, messages, and emails from the good people of the Idi-Araba community requesting the construction and equipping of classrooms for their primary school students. Their request was driven by the need to provide quick access to quality education, comparable to other areas of the state. Today, I am delighted that their wishes have been fulfilled,” Fayinka said.

“We must work together to ensure our healthcare system is not only accessible but also of the highest quality. Mushin General Hospital has always been a vital part of this community. These renovations mark a new chapter in the hospital’s journey toward becoming a model institution for healthcare in Lagos,” he said.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Oluyemi Taiwo, praised Hon. Fayinka for the laudable initiative, noting that the intervention would significantly enhance both infrastructure and patient care.

“This renovation is just the beginning,” Dr. Taiwo remarked. “We are committed to creating an environment that supports the physical well-being of our patients and fosters a culture of professional excellence among our staff. Our goal is to redefine healthcare excellence through innovative, patient-centered delivery services.”

In 2024, Nigeria saw $9.09 billion under Wale Edun, Nigeria’s finance minister, which was deployed for budget financing and defending of the naira.

Edun had mentioned in October 2023 that the country would see a $10 billion inflow into the economy in weeks to ease the pressure on the naira.

“In addition, from the supply of foreign exchange through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), increased production, reduced expenditure, from transactions such as forward sales, from our discussions with sovereign wealth funds that are ready to invest and provide advance alongside that investment, there is a line of sight of $10 billion worth of foreign exchange in the relatively near future in weeks rather months,” he said.

The finance minister said that President Bola Tinubu had signed two executive orders allowing the domestic issuance of instruments in foreign currency and all cash outside the banking system to be brought into banks.

The issuance of the domestic dollar bond happened nine months later.

At the time of this announcement, the naira was trading at N1,225 per dollar at the parallel section of the foreign exchange (FX) market and N808 to a dollar at NAFEM, the official exchange rate market.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) show that in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) the dollar was quoted at the rate of N1,537 on Friday. While in the parallel market, also known as black market, the naira steadied at N1,665 per dollar.

In 2024, Edun was able to raise $9.09 billion in inflows through foreign debts, investment and loans. This saw the foreign reserves surge to $40.88 billion as of December 30, 2024, up from $32.91 billion at the end of 2023, reflecting a 24.2 percent increase over the period.

In June 2024, the World Bank approved a total of $2.25 billion loan for Nigeria to help stabilise the economy following reforms and scale-up support for the poor.

It approved a $1.5 billion loan to back Nigeria’s reforms and another $750 million to accelerate revenue mobilisation.

By August, another $900 million was raised from investors via the Domestic Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) US Dollar Bond.

The federal government raised over 180 percent of its offer from the first tranche of the issuance.

The domestic dollar bond was a $2 billion programme, which was to be raised in four batches of $500 million each, offering a coupon of 9.75 percent and the interest is paid in dollars.

The bond lowered the barrier of entry for several thousands of Nigerians as it was opened to both Nigerians resident in Nigeria, Nigerians in the diaspora, foreign and institutional investors.

Another of the promised inflow was delivered in December when Nigeria had a successful return to the international bond market after a two-year hiatus, with subscription four times the intended offer of $1.7 billion.

After a long wait all year, the Federal Republic of Nigeria issued a dual-tranche Eurobond offering under its Global Medium Term Note Programme to finance the country’s 2024 fiscal deficit.

The issuance was oversubscribed in excess of $9 billion and the federal government eventually took just $2.2 billion across both bonds.

The federal government sold $700 million worth of the 6.5 year Eurobond maturing in 2031 at a coupon rate of 9.625 percent and $1.5 billion of the 10-year tenure at 10.375 percent.

Also, JBS, a Brazilian meatpacker signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Nigeria’s government for a $2.5 billion investment plan in the country, including the building of six new factories in November 2025.

In a statement, JBS said three of the factories would deal in poultry, two in beef and one in pork.

Based on the, JBS said it would build up a five-year investment plan in Nigeria, including feasibility studies, budget estimates and an action plan for local supply chain development.

The federal government also confirmed Saudi Arabia’s SALIC International Investment Company’s acquisition of a 35.43 percent stake in Olam Agri Holdings for a substantial $1.24 billion, marking a significant boost to Nigeria’s agricultural and livestock sector.

The deal, which closed on December 23, 2024, values Olam Agri Holdings at $3.5 billion. Olam Group retains a controlling 64.57 percent stake in the agricultural unit. The transaction, initially announced in March 2022, solidifies Olam Agri’s position as a key player in global agriculture while opening up new opportunities for Nigeria’s livestock industry.

As part of the agreement, Olam Agri and SALIC have established a Strategic Supply & Cooperation Agreement. This partnership aims to expand Olam’s footprint in the Middle Eastern markets while leveraging SALIC’s expertise in livestock and agriculture to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural exports.

Ojudu’s shameless life of lies and blackmail

Viewing Babafemi Ojudu’s latest media outing few days ago, my first reaction was to laugh deliriously at the tomfoolery of the proverbial “shigidi” (Yoruba idol) daring anyone to a bathing contest in the river. It is like the futility of a pinch of salt claiming superiority over a glass of water.

But, after further reflection, I think what Ojudu actually deserves is pity. He is battling the trauma of idleness and now desperately seeks relevance, even if that means telling self-deprecating lies in attempt to inflate his political worth.

That is my summary of his performance in a current viral videos where he makes a lot of fictive assertions at the expense of the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari and his successor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

To start with, just consider this stark contraction: the Ekiti-born journalist-turned-politician declares that Buhari as president “did not have a vision”. Yet, this is the same man in whose government Ojudu had served as “Political Adviser” for eight years! Seriously? The question then is: why did he remain in the government of a leader who lacked vision?

Of course, the answer is blowing in the wind. Ojudu is only a political hustler looking for what to eat. Truly, what a rabbit will eat never allows it to reason or understand the meaning of dignity and integrity.

Another instance of Ojudu’s shameless contradiction: he claims that he and other Asiwaju’s “political disciples” in 2007 persuaded the ACN leader from taking an offer of “Finance Minister” from the PDP administration of President Umar Yar’Adua. Seriously? At this point, I couldn’t help laughing again in Ojudu’s native Ekiti dialect. The lie in this claim can easily be established from the fact that at that material time, Ojudu was the executive editor of The News/PM News. It was not until 2010 that he resigned to bid for the senatorial ticket of Ekiti Central.

In fact, but for Asiwaju Tinubu, there is no way Ojudu, a political lightweight, could have won the ticket against better known and far more accomplished journalist like Dr. Dele Alake.
So, isn’t it shameful that a supposed journalist/editor could now claim to be a “political disciple” to the National Leader of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) around 2007? It is characters like Ojudu that are giving journalism a bad name in Nigeria! Where is journalism ethics?

In the early 2000s, the earlier victim of Ojudu’s lies and blackmail was “Oshoko” himself, Ayodele Fayose. Using his media platform, Ojudu had hounded then Governor Niyi Adebayo to a political defeat in 2003. Once Fayose came in, the serial blackmailer tried to hijack the new administration. So chummy was their relationship initially that Fayose once alleged that Ojudu handled the job of sewing the “Aso Ofi” (hand-sewn traditional attire) he wore on his inauguration on May 29, 2003. Fayose only started to resist when Ojudu’s interference and demands became too excessive. So bitter was their falling-out that “Oshoko” started calling him “Oju-dudu” (the black face). Predictably, Ojudu launched a relentless media witch-hunt against Fayose in retaliation until he was controversially impeached in 2006.

Now, taking about the scramble for Ekiti Central Senatorial ticket in 2011, not a few observers believed that Asiwaju “forsook” Alake, a long-standing and time-tested loyalist, for Ojudu, an unstable character, who soon showed his true colour when he failed to gain ACN’s nomination for second term in 2015.

Of course, by 2014, Asiwaju could not save Ojudu from his constituents in Ekiti who were tired of his arrogance, insolence, incompetence and self-interest. Once Opeyemi Bamidele got the nomination, Ojudu suddenly became “radicalised” overnight against Asiwaju. It is a mark of better character and performance on the part of Bamidele that he is today in his third term in office and also the Majority Leader at the senate.

After all said and done, the true test of character is what someone does in the face of great temptation. Note that when Alake lost out in the Ekiti powerplay of 2011, he never switched camp to PDP nor launch a media war against Asiwaju. Not Ojudu who, after losing the Ekiti primaries in 2014, lobbied and lobbied to be rehabilitated with the position of “Political Adviser” under Buhari in 2015 and was posted to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s office. Thus began his vicious and relentless campaign of calumny against Tinubu.

In retrospect, it was perhaps a strategic move by Buhari that he did not keep a political snake like Ojudu close, but offloaded him to Osinbajo. Of course, everyone still remembers the despicable length Ojudu went in 2022 in a desperate effort to discredit Tinubu and assassinate his character in the build-up to the APC presidential primaries, calling him unprintable names, even though Asiwaju is yet the same man who had made him politically in 2011.

Perhaps, what Ojudu did mostly for eight years under Osinbajo was bearing false tales and idle gossips. And finding or creating enemies for Osinbajo. In fact, not a few believe he was one of those who kept egging on Osinbajo to the political disgrace he suffered at the APC primaries in June 2022. It is a measure of the quality of “political advice” Ojudu gave that his principal, a sitting vice president, was beaten silly by an ordinary cabinet minister at the APC primaries.

Ever a sham political strategist, Ojudu was so confident of Osinbajo’s landslide victory at the APC primaries that he boastfully told an interviewer in a viral video prior that he would retire to the farm if Tinubu ever won and became president. Shameless enough, he is yet to fulfil that pledge, almost two years after Tinubu’s inauguration. Had Ojudu truly retired to his much-touted cassava farm, perhaps public interest would be better served. At least, with a promise of better food security for Nigeria, instead of his current toxic career of lying and revisionism.

Of course, the story of all the commercial transactions of the 2022 APC primaries is yet to be fully told. It is an open secret, for instance, that Ojudu was one of key “akapo” (treasurers) of the Osinbajo’s project, with bitter and vicious infighting about U.S dollars received and not shared including a major contribution by a legendary casino operator from South-west. (That will form the basis of the next instalment of this Ojudu series.)

Meanwhile, who will remind Ojudu of his 2022 pledge to retire to the farm if Tinubu became president?

Foundation Provides Free Medical Outreach To Mushin Residents

To improve healthcare access, Lekan Paul Foundation, on Sunday, provided free medical outreach to no fewer than 200 people in the Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State.


According to Olalekan Ibrahim, convener of the outreach, he said that the exercise was part of his contributions to the society to improve the health and wellbeing of his constituents.

Olalekan, who also doubles as a Consumer Protection Specialist, noted that the intervention comprised counseling and screening for hypertension, malaria, ulcer and blood sugar test.

He explained that the aforementioned ailments were the focus of the outreach because they were the most prevalent in the area.

Those who are found to have any of the ailments were treated and given medication by certified doctors and pharmacists.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Mutiu Balaogun, in his remark, applauded the convener for the free health screening which he described as timely.

In his words, "I commend Mr. Olalekan for bringing this initiative to the community. There are many people that are not able to afford medication to manage
their high blood pressure. But with this free screening, they are able to get free drugs."

Another beneficiary, Alhaja Nimota Salami, said the medical team advised them to eat foods and fruit that will digestion. She also thanked the convener for placing premium on the health and wellbeing of his constituents.

Olalekan further enjoined the people to go for regular medical check up to avoid unforeseen circumstances. He also urged the government at the local level to increase funding for Primary Health Centres (PHCs).

In his April 2024 press statement, Matawalle’s words were a clarion call to action: “We must stand up to be counted for being on the part of government or take our exit.” This was not mere rhetoric; it was a rallying cry for accountability and collective responsibility, setting him apart as one of the President’s most reliable allies.

While loyalty in politics can sometimes feel performative, Matawalle has matched his words with measurable results in his role as Minister of State for Defense. His tenure has been marked by transformative reforms and a hands-on approach to addressing Nigeria’s pressing security challenges.

One of his standout achievements has been the revitalization of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). Under his leadership, the passage of the DICON Bill in 2023 opened the doors for strategic partnerships with global defence firms, enabling advanced technology transfers and the local production of military hardware. His collaboration with NASENI and the Ministry of Steel Development has resulted in a state-of-the-art military hardware production facility, positioning Nigeria as a regional leader in defence technology.

Matawalle’s vision is clear: reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and empower Nigeria to equip its Armed Forces with locally made solutions. Speaking at DICON’s 60th anniversary, he likened the agency’s transformation to the self-reliance model exemplified by the Dangote Refinery. His emphasis on domestic production is not just about defence; it is a bold economic strategy that creates jobs and saves foreign exchange.

Matawalle’s leadership in combating banditry, particularly in the North West, has been resolute and results-driven. Following his visit to the region, the Nigerian Armed Forces executed strategic operations that led to the elimination of notorious bandit leaders like Kachalla Ibrahim Gurgun Raji and Sani Wala Burki. These operations dismantled entrenched criminal networks.

His hands-on involvement, including multiple tours of the region, underscores his commitment to eradicating insecurity.

Beyond the battlefield, Matawalle has shown a deep commitment to the welfare of Nigeria’s ex-service personnel. By digitizing the verification process for military pensions, he has eliminated the grueling physical exercises that veterans once endured. 2. Taking Banditry Head-On

On September 30, 2024, a video surfaced online featuring notorious terrorist Bello Turji, pleading for forgiveness and calling for dialogue with the Federal Government to end armed violence in Zamfara State. Turji’s sudden shift followed weeks of decisive military operations that dismantled major bandit networks in the region.

The turning point in the fight against banditry came on September 1, 2024, when Dr. Matawalle led the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other Service Chiefs to Sokoto on a Presidential directive to eradicate banditry in the North West.

On October 8, 2024, Dr. Bello Matawalle, commenced the second phase of his North West tour, focused on eradicating kidnapping, banditry, and other criminal activities destabilizing the region. Within a week, the Nigerian Armed Forces neutralized Kachalla Ibrahim Gurgun Raji, a notorious bandit leader, in Kwanar Nasiru, Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

This strategic interventions yielded immediate results:
1. Kachalla Sani-Black: This notorious bandit leader, commanding over 150 fighters in Zamfara’s Chabi area, was eliminated on September 24, alongside his sons and key associates.
2. Baleri Fakai: A close ally of Turji, Fakai and 30 of his fighters were neutralized in Maru Local Government Area.
3. Halilu Sububu: Infamous for leading the 2021 attack on a Katsina military base, Sububu was killed by the Nigerian Air Force on September 12.
4. Halilu Buzu: This notorious bandit was taken out hours before Sububu in a coordinated Nigerian Army operation.
5. Sani Wala Burki: Responsible for terrorizing Katsina’s Safana and Batsari LGAs, Burki was eliminated in a joint operation on September 14.
6. Kachalla Ibrahim Gurgun Raji: In October, the military neutralized this dangerous bandit in Gusau, Zamfara State.

These operations, executed with precision and determination, marked a significant victory for the Nigerian Armed Forces and showcased Dr. Matawalle’s leadership and resolve. Notably, former Senator Shehu Sani lauded these efforts, describing criticism of Matawalle and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu as distractions from the fight against terrorism.

Notably, in April 2024, the First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, commissioned two offshore patrol vessels for the Nigerian Navy in Turkey, accompanied by Matawalle and the Chief of Naval Staff. Youth Minister Attends Launch of Youth Activities Dashboard, Calls on Youth to Embrace Govt. Programs

Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, today, attended the launch of the Youth Activities Dashboard, an initiative that allows young people access to all youth-focused initiatives of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

The Minister, while giving his remarks, commended the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring & Delivery), Ms. Titilope Gbadamosi for complementing the efforts of the Ministry in ensuring that the average youth in Nigeria is aware of and benefit from the programs and interventions of the government.

“I believe that it is not enough for us to have good programs, but the youth we are here to serve must be part of the process and have the opportunity to ask questions when necessary,” he said.

The Minister, while recounting the success made through the Nigerian Youth Helpdesk, an initiative of the Ministry towards ensuring that all complaints from Nigerian youth are attended to, emphasized that the Youth Activities Dashboard is a further addition to that effort.

“While the Youth HelpDesk is a general platform open to youth to report issues affecting them, the Youth Activities Dashboard is a specific platform that contains all ongoing youth programs and activities of the government.
 
“Through the Youth Activities Dashboard, the youth would be able to track, monitor, and assess all government youth initiatives. They will also be able to give us feedback and engage with us, as well as offer suggestions on how we can make improvements where necessary,” the Minister stated.

Olawande also used the occasion to reaffirmed his appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his love and dedication to Nigerian Youth. He noted that the President is a father who does not want any disconnection between his government and Nigerian citizens, especially the youth.

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, MON, joined Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, for the Elderly Support Scheme under the Renewed Hope Initiative. The event, themed "Total Wellness," took place today, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at the Armed Forces Officers' Mess, Aso Drive, Asokoro, Abuja.

The First Lady, Her Excellency Oluremi Tinubu reaffirmed her commitment to improving the lives of elderly citizens and veterans through the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).

The event marked a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to provide support to senior citizens, particularly veterans who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding the nation’s security.

The Elderly Support Scheme, an arm of the broader Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), aims to empower elderly citizens. The event focused on providing financial assistance and essential items to 250 veterans, each of whom received; ₦200,000 in cash, Bags of rice, Packs of noodles, and Cooking oil.

In his address, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle emphasized the need to honor the sacrifices of veterans and ensure their well-being. As the minister in charge of veterans’ affairs, Matawalle announced an expansion of the scheme to include 500 beneficiaries, promising that this initiative would become an annual tradition.

The Elderly Support Scheme is part of the First Lady’s vision for an inclusive and compassionate society. Beyond financial assistance, the scheme also provides free medical checkups. Speaking at the event, Senator Oluremi Tinubu reiterated her commitment to uplifting vulnerable groups through sustainable and impactful programs.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of prominent figures, including; the Chairman of the Military Pension Board, Air Vice Marshal IP Irumheson, The Representative of the Chief of Defence Staff, and the National Presidents of DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA, and POWA.

Through these efforts, the RHI demonstrates a holistic approach to combating hunger, poverty, and economic hardship while empowering families and communities across Nigeria.

As the festive season approaches, the program not only provides immediate relief but also underscores the Federal Government’s dedication to building a compassionate and inclusive society.

Olusi also brings over two decades of global experience as a seasoned economist, development finance expert and policymaker. Under his leadership, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, BOI has focused on six key themes: micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), digital transformation, youth and skills development, gender development, infrastructure and climate and sustainability. This comprehensive approach is reshaping and deepening BOI’s impact on Nigeria’s industrial climate.

In his first year, Dr. Olusi strategically restructured BOI to enhance impact and align with Nigeria’s development agenda. Under his leadership, in line with international best practice, the bank has streamlined the core directorates—such as Large Enterprise, MSMEs, and Public Sector & Intervention Funds—to focus on key industry segments such as the extractive sector, manufacturing sector, services sector, infrastructure, women, youth, and climate initiatives.

He also introduced a Corporate Finance and Risk Management directorate to drive global fund raising and risk efficiency efforts. In addition, specialized units for Non-Interest Banking and Development Effectiveness and Research Teams were created to position the Bank for impact.

As the Group Chairman of all of BOI subsidiaries, there has been significant revitalization across the board. Dr. Olusi led a ₦50 billion capital injection into BOI’s subsidiary, LECON Financial Services. This funding boosts LECON’s capacity to support high-impact sectorslike agro-processing, healthcare, renewable energy, and telecommunications, enabling it to offer equipment leasing as an affordable alternative to direct purchases.

Under his leadership, the BOI Investment and Trust Company Limited (BOI-ITC) successfully regained its Trusteeship Operating License from Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) after six years suspension in 2018. This reinstatement allows BOI-ITC to re-enter the trusteeship market and strengthen its position in trusts, consultancy, and governance advisory services. BOI-ITC has facilitated loan applications for over 100 companies, securing more than ₦200 billion in approvals from BOI for MSMEs and large corporations.

Finally, Olusi oversaw a ₦1 billion equity injection into BOI Microfinance Bank, enabling its transition from a unit microfinance bank to a state microfinance bank. This strategic move enhances the bank's capacity to better serve underserved communities and expand its financial services.

At a time when accessing capital is increasingly difficult due to global financial constraints and rising inflation, BOI has emerged as a vital player. With interest rates as high as 35 percent in commercial banks, funding is nearly out of reach for manufacturers and other key sectors. In response, Dr. Olusi spearheaded a landmark funder raiser of nearly €2 billion (₦3.4 Trillion) in 2024 from global institutions – an unprecedented achievement in the Bank’s history.

This contributed significantly to an increase in the bank’s total assets from N3.9Trillion in December 2023 to N6.38 trillion by end of September 2024, giving Nigerian businesses access to affordable (9-14%), long-term capital and job creation facilitation. BOI is also breaking ground with initiatives to reduce trade barriers, expand market access, and create better conditions for foreign and domestic investment.

The innovative leadership style of Dr.Olusi at BOI has prioritized support for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), forging strategic partnerships to enhance financing and growth opportunities across the sector. Notably, BOI’s collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN) led to a ₦1 billion fund offering single-digit interest loans to nano and micro enterprises, with both organizations contributing ₦500 million each to expand grassroots access to finance.

BOI has further strengthened its partnership with the relevant trade associations. This is further evidenced by the signing of MoUs with key private sector organizations—including the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), Nigerian Association of Small-Scale Industrialists (NASSI), and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), to deepen real sector financing.

Additionally, under Olusi’s leadership, the Bank spearheaded as the implementation agency, the Federal Government’s ₦200 billion program supporting 1 million nano enterprises, 75,000 MSMEs, and 140 manufacturing companies, helping to drive job creation nationwide.

In a significant push for rural development, he launched the RuralArea Program on Investment for Development (RAPID), committing over ₦100 billion to stimulate rural enterprises and aiming to create 300 new enterprises in each of the 36 states of the federation as well as the FCT. Olusi has also brought BOI closer to communities by opening and commissioning new state offices in Akwa Ibom, Jigawa, and others, and signing MoUs with states like Rivers, Katsina, and Akwa Ibom to provide billions of Naira through managed or matching funds.

Driven by a commitment to even greater development impact, transparency and efficiency, BOI is transforming into a knowledge bank to better support Nigeria’s private sector. Under his leadership, BOI launched PriceSenseNG, an innovative mobile app providing real-time food price data across Nigeria, helping to boost market transparency, guide policy, and combat food insecurity. Complementing this, the bank introduced two publications, the BOI Journal of Development Finance (Technical) and the BOI Journal of Development Review (Non-Technical)—to share insights on MSME development and industrial growth.

BOI has also secured an international partnership to stimulate international bilateral economic activity. During the 2024 IMF and World Bank Group Spring meetings, BOI signed an MoU with the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) to jointly identify
projects that foster economic prosperity in both Nigeria and the U.S. This partnership, which focuses on sectors such as climate, infrastructure, creative arts, technology, and support for women-owned businesses, underscores a shared commitment to fostering sustainable development. EXIM President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis emphasized that the collaboration symbolizes EXIM’s dedication to strengthening U.S-Nigeria relations, while Olusi described it as an exciting step toward driving United States investments in Nigeria.

Recognizing the growth potential of Nigeria’s digital and creative sectors, BOI is actively investing in these fields through the Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (iDICE) program. This Federal Government-backed initiative, co-funded by international organizations such as the African Development Bank, Agence Française de Développement, and the Islamic Development Bank, will provide training and capacity-building opportunities for Nigerian youth aged 15 to 35. By equipping 175,000 young Nigerians with ICT skills and supporting enterprise development, iDICE aims to create 800,000 jobs and foster entrepreneurship within Nigeria’s burgeoning digital economy.
In alignment with Nigeria’s sustainability agenda, BOI has also launched a climate-focused initiative under Dr. Olusi’s leadership. The bank has been nominated as a Direct Access Entity by the Nigeria Climate Change Commission (NCCC) to access financing for climate projects through the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This designation empowers BOI to spearhead climate initiatives and support sustainable development efforts in Nigeria. In addition, through a partnership with RESWAYE, BOI has committed to planting 1,000 trees across Lagos State, an effort aimed at addressing climate change and promoting environmental conservation. This initiative complements BOI’s call for local and international climate funding to support green investments in Nigeria. At the launch of BOI’s "Green Grows Initiative," Olusi emphasized the severe impact of climate change on the Nigerian economy and the need for collective action to mitigate these risks. BOI’s commitment to operational excellence and corporate governance continues to be recognized with the institution maintaining its A+ rating from the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) in 2023. It also holds top-tier ratings: Aaa from Agusto& Co (domestic), Caa1 positive outlook from Moody’s Ratings(foreign), and AAA (nga) ratings from Fitch (foreign), highlighting BOI’s commitment to high standards and transparency. Amid rising capital costs and shifting economic conditions, the bank under Dr. Olusi has shown the role that DFIs can play in navigating development challenges, maximizing their capital for economic impact,and striving toward Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy target.In the past year, BOI has garnered multiple awards reflecting Dr. Olusi’s impactful leadership. The newly inaugurated board of Paramo International Trade Center in Ladipo Mushin Lagos State, today paid a courtesy visit to the Former Secretary and former Chairman of Mushin Local Government Hon Seye Oladejo, who was also a State cabinet member as Special Adviser and later Commissioner for Special Duties and presently the Publicity Secretary of the ruling Party APC in the State.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the board, Barrister Femi Martins thanked the Former Commissioner for his warm reception and said all the board members looked forward to the visit because he is known to be a very experienced and forthright Leader they will surely gain a lot from. He said they are assured of receiving very useful advice from the former Council Chairman.

In his reaction, Hon Oladejo congratulated members of the board and in extension Hon Emmanuel Bamgboye for the vision and will to set up the board, which he described as the pioneer board and enjoined other Local Governments to emulate the unprecedented feat.

Tracing the history of the market, he said it came into existence during the tenure of Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon as Chairman of Mushin Local Government while he was the Secretary to the Government. He continued by saying he personally signed the contract for the establishment of the market.

Addressing the board members further, he once again congratulated the Executive Chairman of the Council for deeming it fit to rename the market as PARAMO (the original name), saying he read all comments on the issue in the media and posited that all enlightened people know that markets fall under the purview of the Local Government and as such the Chairman had done the right thing. He remembered Alhaji Hassan Olajoku and prayed for the repose of his soul.

He charged the board members to be steadfast and take into cognizance that they are in the eyes of the public and expected to set standards that will outlive their tenure.

He identified some challenges and encouraged the board to tackle all issues with dignity and focus.

Thanking Hon Oladejo on behalf of the board, Mr Babatunde Ige said the meeting was very rewarding as the board became more informed with facts hitherto unknown to members of the board. He described the Publicity Secretary as an encyclopedia when it comes to issues pertaining Mushin and Lagos at large. He also said the assurance he has given that the board has his backing and that of other leaders will spur the members of the board to perform exceedingly. He promised that the board will not let the good people of Mushin and Lagos State down.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the board, Barrister Femi Martins thanked the Honourable member for his warm reception and said Hon Esho as the former Sole Administrator of the Local Government is an experienced Leader the board needs to have full grasp of happenings within the market and count on his advice going forward.

In his reaction, Hon Esho congratulated members of the board and said he can pointedly say administration of that particular market is an uphill task. He identified some challenges but reposed confidence in members of the board to be able to achieve desired results. He assured the board that they have the full backing of the Assembly and charged the members to ensure peace returns to the market and trading once again is seen to be seamless.

Thanking Honourable Esho on behalf of the board, Mr Babatunde Ige said the assurance he has given that the board has his backing and that of other leaders will spur the members of the board to perform exceedingly. He promised that the board will not let the good people of Mushin and Lagos State down.

The former First Lady of Lagos State, Senator Fatimat Raji-Rasaki has congratulated Nigeria First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu over the conferment of honourary doctorate degree on her by the Federal University of Technology, FUTO, Owerri, Imo State.

The Saturday, 7th December, 2024 award ceremony marked the 36th convocation of the Institution, where prominent Nigeria leaders were recognized for their contributions to national development and humanitarian efforts.

An elated Sen. Raji Rasaki in a statement on Sunday, extolled the virtue of the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, saying her impacts transcend the soil of this country, adding, “her outstanding impact on the lives of the Nigerian people are commendable.”

PARAMO BOARD HOLDS PEACE TALKS WITH STAKEHOLDERS OF THE MARKET.

The newly inaugurated board of Paramo International Trade Center in Ladipo Mushin Lagos State held a peace meeting with all the stakeholders of the trade center today at the Mushin Local Government Chambers.

The Chairman of the board Barrister Femi Martins in his short speech traced the constitution of the board as an offspring of one of the bye laws recently enacted by the legislative arm of the Local Government. He further said the Council Chairman Hon Emmanuel Bamgboye inaugurated the board with the charge to ensure peace, harmony and prosperity for all stakeholders returns to the the trade center.

He repeatedly emphasised that Hon Bamgboye insisted tranquility is the priority of the Local Government, hence the peace talks.

Barrister Martins declared the talks open by calling on the stake holders to bare their thoughts in a peaceful manner.

Quite a number of grievances were laid bare by the stakeholders and the board members assured them of looking deep into every issue and ensuring equity, justice and fairplay will be the hallmark of the board.

After 4 hours of deliberations, the Chairman of the board postponed further discussions to Thursday 12th December 2024 within the trade center as agreed by the stakeholders.

The board members advised all the stakeholders to continue to maintain peace till all issues are resolved.

In attendance were all members of the board namely Mr Babatunde Ige, Mr Ajibade Hassan Olajoku, Mr Emmanuel Dike and the Secretary of the board Mr Tope Olowoyeye.

The stakeholders present were Mrs Fausat Hassan Olajoku the Wife of the Late owner of the trade center and her son Tunde. Others were Abba Ahmed Alli representing the Hausa Community in the trade center, Alhaji Oseni Bashiru, Mr Davies Sanusi representing Yoruba Artisans and Traders Association (YATA), Mr Godwin Ubah, Mudashiru Suleiman, Ulasi Casmir and a representative of Mr Chukwuma Oyebinanma.

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, today, inaugurated the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan (NiYEAP) in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's goals of fostering holistic youth empowerment and job creation.

The inauguration, held at the Radisson Blue Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, had in attendance the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Development, Mr. Olubunmi Olusanya; other top Management of the Ministry, and representatives of various private sector and development organisations, including GIZ, International Labour Organization, UNICEF, and the UN.

According to the Minister, the Technical Working Group, which would be driven by the private sector, will draw membership from government and development partners. The collaborative approach is expected to play a crucial role in achieving sustainable youth employment.

The Minister recalled that the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan, launched in September 2021, focuses on four thematic areas: Employability, Entrepreneurship, Employment Creation, and Equal Opportunity, while highlighting key sectors for employment generation such as the digital economy, agriculture, and manufacturing.

Olawande, in his remarks at the event, stated that the TWG will not only build a sustainable legacy of prosperity for Nigerian youth but also advocate for youth-friendly policies and facilitate the creation of youth-specific job opportunities.

The Minister also affirmed his commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the initiative. He, therefore, invited all concerned stakeholders to actively participate in the process of delivering an impactful employment plan, stressing that collective efforts are essential towards creating a brighter future for Nigerian youth.

Daurama Foundation’s VoicesWithin Film Premiere Ignites Urgent Dialogue on Gender-Based Violence

In furtherance of its advocacy to combat gender-based violence among women and girls, Daurama Foundation over the weekend premiere it’s film, ‘VoicesWithin’, in Abuja.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, held at the Silverbird Cinema, Jabi Lake, Abuja, was declared open by the President, Daurama Foundation, Dr. Samira Buhari, where united influential voices, survivors, policymakers, and change makers under the global theme, “UNiTEtoEndViolenceAgainstWomenandGirls.” called for a holistic action by all stakeholders in the country.

Dr. Buhari stressed that, “VoicesWithin” is a rallying cry for change. “Every scene, every story, and each character reflects a reality that many endure in silence. Today, we must unite not only to watch but to listen, learn, and act. The fight to end gender-based violence begins with each of us here.”

The National Programme Officer for UN Women Nigeria, Patience Ekeoba, who delivered a keynote address at the event said, gender-based violence is a scar on humanity that demands immediate action.

According to her; “Through VoicesWithin, we are reminded that awareness is the first step, but action is what creates real change. Advocacy like this is a vital tool in turning societal awareness into meaningful progress.”

The Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt, also shared his impression, stating that the show is timely, “I certainly enjoyed the show.”

Bem Pever, Producer of “VoicesWithin” and Chief Executive Officer, Take 7 Media, spoke passionately about the role of storytelling in advocacy.

Advocacy like this film is essential to that process. Silence allows violence to thrive. As a society, we must create safe spaces where survivors feel supported, heard, and empowered to seek justice.”

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press,

We welcome you to this press conference, where we will address pressing concerns regarding Zamfara State since the inauguration of the current Governor, Dauda Lawal. Since his tenure began, Zamfara has faced a troubling decline—sinking deeper into poverty, insecurity, and underdevelopment.

Zamfara State has never been in such a dire state. Although the Governor is always seen on national television claiming that he has transformed Zamfara, the reality is far from these assertions. Under his leadership, Zamfara has deteriorated markedly, in stark contrast to the solid foundation laid by his predecessor, Dr. Bello Matawalle.

The evidence is visible across the state. Health statistics reveal an alarming rise in mortality rates due to disease and poor maternal healthcare, with no substantial investment in education or infrastructure. There is growing unemployment at record levels. Our farms, which once used to thrive, are now lying abandoned, and the record harvests achieved in the last five years have become a thing of the past. Due to welfare concerns, staff in the healthcare sector in Zamfara State are threatening to go on strike.

Governor Lawal has dismantled much of the progress his predecessor made, particularly in security. Under Dr. Matawalle’s administration, security was tackled effectively with a balanced approach that combined both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches. It is on record that for nine consecutive months, there were no reported terrorist or bandit attacks in the State—this is a testament to his strategic collaboration with stakeholders and innovative strategies. It is regrettable, that under the current administration, insecurity has surged due to the Governor’s neglect of residents’ welfare and his unwillingness to apply effective security measures like his predecessor did.

Dauda Lawal has, unfortunately, distanced himself from Zamfara, governing from Abuja and displaying indifference to his responsibilities. We call upon him to return to the state and revisit the handover notes left by Dr. Bello Matawalle, the current Minister of State for Defence, who prioritized peace, development, and employment during his tenure.

It is an unfortunate situation residents of Zamfara State face today that due to the Governor’s highhandedness, ego and pride, he has refused to meet with stakeholders and engage necessary persons to ending criminality in the State. We want to use this medium to call on the Governor to embrace collaboration and do all that is necessary to tackle insecurity in the state, just as his predecessor successfully did.

We will want to use this opportunity to make further recommendations to Governor Dauda Lawal on how he can better manage Zamfara State, drawing from the successes of Dr. Bello Matawalle to lift the state from the current doldrums it has found itself.

As Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Matawalle gave infrastructure development in the State priority. He showed that healthcare and education deserved the utmost attention both sectors deserved. He strategically built modernized hostels, schools and hospitals across the state to address shortages of health delivery and quality education. He knew and understood that by investing in these areas of the development of the State, he would be curing age-long menaces of underdevelopment in the State. It is on the record that Dr. Bello Matawalle, as Governor of Zamfara State ensured that there was a Primary Health Care Centre built and furnished with the necessary equipment in each of the 147 local government centres of the State.

We use this medium to call on Dauda Lawal to emulate the successes of his predecessor and continue to build more schools, employ more teachers, doctors and furnish these infrastructures with the needed equipment to ensure that they work to serve the people of Zamfara State.

Dauda Lawal must remember that his job is not to complain but to build on the successes of what has already been laid before him.

One significant achievement of the former Governor that we encourage Dauda Lawal to emulate is the institutionalization and driving of Social Investment Programmes in the State. Dr. Bello Matawalle was the first Governor of Zamfara State to establish a Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the State. This Ministry was highly instrumental in carrying out interventions across the state, ensuring that the poor and vulnerable did not suffer whenever the state faced any form of crisis. Under this Ministry, the Governor also established the Zamfara State Social Investment Programme that had tens of thousands of beneficiaries across the State. These social investment programmes helped to create jobs among youths and women providing them with capital to start small businesses.

Governor Dauda Lawal, who has unfortunately abandoned the welfare of citizens in the State is advised to pick this programme up from where his predecessor left it, bring it back to life and empower the citizens of the state who he has abandoned for his friends in Abuja.

One crucial intervention that Zamfara State indigenes, especially the farmers enjoyed during the reign of Dr. Bello Matawalle was the revival of the Zamfara State Comprehensive Agriculture Revolution Programme (ZACAREP) that he met on ground but rejuvenated to achieve its focus of revolutionizing agriculture in the State. Thousands of farmers in the State are on record to have benefited from the programme in one way or the other, whether it was by receiving seedlings, or fertilizer or equipment. Today this programme has been abandoned by the new Governor, and Zamfara State indigenes are suffering a food crisis because their Governor has abandoned programmes that worked for the people.

It is deeply unfortunate that the people of Zamfara must endure such hardship despite the unprecedented resources at Governor Dauda Lawal’s disposal. Today, Zamfara receives over ten times the revenue allocated during the tenure of his predecessor through the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC). With such substantial funds, one would expect a visible improvement in the lives of the state’s citizens with enhanced infrastructure, improved healthcare, job opportunities, and a strong push toward economic productivity.

Yet, instead of prioritizing initiatives that could alleviate poverty, create employment, and drive sustainable growth, Governor Lawal has chosen to channel resources into ill-conceived projects such as a cargo airport. While the potential benefits of an airport to promote trade and transportation cannot be dismissed, the timing and prioritization of this project shows a profound disconnect from the immediate needs of the people by the Governor. The citizens face daily struggles with unemployment, inadequate healthcare, and decaying educational facilities, while critical sectors remain underfunded and neglected.

Zamfara needs a committed leader who will address its pressing socio-economic challenges and focus on programs that directly impact the welfare of the people. Instead, Governor Lawal has adopted a wasteful approach, diverting funds toward “white elephant” projects that, at best, offer symbolic value but fail to address the core issues of poverty and underdevelopment. This disconnect from the realities of Zamfara’s citizens reflects his nonchalant attitude, worsened by his decision to govern primarily from Abuja rather than remain present to address the on-ground realities. The Governor’s focus should be on practical solutions that uplift Zamfara’s indigenes, restore hope, and lay the groundwork for lasting progress across the state.

As Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Bello Matawalle built a modern and dignified Government House, not only for use of the Governor but with additional guest houses for state visitors, saving the government millions in hotel expenses. Matawalle’s commitment extended beyond the Government House: he also renovated the State House of Assembly, equipping it with state-of-the-art facilities.

If there is anything laughable about Dauda Lawal, it is the fact that he sits comfortably in the same palatial Government house built by Matawalle while shamelessly criticising Matawalle for doing nothing as Governor. In fact, Governor Dauda Lawal is a living irony. He is a man who lives off the achievements of his predecessor but still claims that this predecessor did nothing.

We cannot close this address without reflecting on Dr. Bello Matawalle’s exemplary character as a leader. Known as one of the most accessible governors in Northern Nigeria, Dr. Matawalle’s administration was marked by inclusivity and openness, whether dealing with district heads, commissioners, or ordinary citizens. This quality endeared him to the people and fostered unity across the state. We urge Governor Lawal to adopt a similar approach, bridging divides, and restoring harmony to Zamfara.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, the Zamfara APC Youth League uses this opportunity to call on Governor Dauda Lawal to take heed of his predecessor’s achievements and adopt similar strategies to uplift Zamfara State. Dr. Bello Matawalle’s tenure left a legacy of unity, development, and security through collaborative governance and strategic initiatives. Governor Lawal must prioritize the welfare of Zamfara’s citizens by building upon these foundations rather than dismantling them. We urge him to engage with stakeholders, recommit to addressing pressing challenges, and work toward restoring Zamfara’s trajectory toward progress and prosperity. Without swift action, the state’s recent gains may be irrevocably lost, leaving its citizens to bear the consequences of ineffective governance.

Gender Based-Violence: Daurama Foundation Premieres ‘Voices Within’ film to combat menace

In its drive to collectively enlighten general public on domestic and gender-based violence, the Daurama Foundation on Tuesday announced the premiere of “VoicesWithin”, a short film to corroborate the global campaign to end violence against women and girls.

Produced by Take 7 Media and directed by Bem Pever, with screenplay by Mahdi Eldaw and Emil Garuba, this evocative film forms a key part of Daurama Foundation’s initiatives for the annual 16 Days of Activism.

The premiere which will hold at the Silver Bird Cinema, Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja, on November 30, 2024, at 4:00 pm will feature story of a young girl who witnesses a tragic cycle of abuse at home and turns to writing as an escape. Through her storytelling, she finds the strength to express her pain and resilience while dreaming of a safer world.

Her story also unveils her mother’s plight, a survivor of abuse who, due to a childhood disability, is unable to defend herself physically. This moving narrative amplifies the voices of those often unheard, encouraging audiences to stand in solidarity against violence.

The cast features a talented ensemble of Nigerian actors, with standout performances by Grace Daudu, Mbasity Jesse, Tolu Asanu, Franca Igwe, Lanzy Janpak, Hoomsuk Alex Jibrin, Austin Mangs and Seneng bee Abela.

Dr. Samira Buhari, Executive Producer and Chairperson, Daurama Foundation, stressed that “VoicesWithin” embodies the Foundation’s commitment to empowering women and fostering communities that advocate against violence.

Daurama Foundation, a Nigerian non-governmental organisation focused on improving health outcomes and advocating for the rights of women and girls through education, outreach, and community engagement. Their work addresses critical issues affecting women and girls well-being, developing programs and resources that combat domestic violence and provide a pathway forward for survivors.

NASENI: Nigeria’s Path to Self-Reliance in Technology

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has evolved into a significant driver of Nigeria’s self-reliance and industrial growth in recent time. A recent highlight in NASENI’s achievements is the $3.25 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) secured from China, marking a historic push for the commercialization of 52 pioneering products developed by NASENI. The ambitious investment includes a $150 million partnership with Shenzhen LEMI Technology for lithium battery production, positioning Nigeria to become a vital player in the global lithium battery market, a sector crucial to electric vehicles and renewable energy storage solutions, and addressing the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions in Nigeria. Further agreements worth $2 billion have been signed with Chinese firms to boost Nigeria's expertise in electric vehicle and drone technologies, positioning the nation as a future leader in the high-tech space within Africa.

These partnerships do more than inject capital into the Nigerian economy; they build essential infrastructure, provide job opportunities, and empower Nigeria with the skills and knowledge needed to become an active player in the global tech market.

Driving Technological Advancement and Pioneering Investments in Local Innovations

The transformation of NASENI is not just in funding and focusing on international partnerships but also in championing Nigerian enterprises that drive local innovation. In May 2024, NASENI made its first-ever investment in Powerstove, a pioneering Nigerian company specializing in producing efficient cookstoves. This partnership reflects NASENI’s commitment to fostering homegrown solutions, with Powerstove offering a unique energy-saving product that addresses environmental concerns while providing affordable energy solutions to Nigerians. NASENI’s support of Powerstove aligns with its broader strategy of nurturing indigenous technology that can be scaled and commercialized for broader economic impact.

Similarly, NASENI unveiled a new line of products developed with technical partners in May 2024, showcasing its expanding portfolio in technology-driven solutions. In August 2024, NASENI funded a showcase of R& projects by Nigerian universities, emphasizing its commitment to academia and young innovators. By investing in university-led research, NASENI is fostering a new generation of Nigerian engineers and scientists who can continue the country’s technological progression. This synergy between academic institutions and NASENI not only provides a platform for innovation but also supports the commercialization of research, making it beneficial to the wider economy.

Disregard Death Rumours, Okorocha is sound, spirit, soul, body - Aide

The Erstwhile Governor of Imo State, Sen. Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s Aide, Emmanuel Emma Jr. on Thursday added voice to debunk the outrageous lie of the passage of his Principal urging the general public to disregard the mischievous report.

Hon. Emma Jr in a statement signed and made available to newsmen frown at the antics of the mischief makers, who littered the public space with fake, uncultured report to desist or face the wrath of God, saying ‘Owelle’ is sound, in spirit, soul and body.

The Aide said Sen. Okorocha is not sick, neither being admitted for any ailment, “he has been very busy with his humanitarian works and will not be deter by any detractors.”

He stressed that the Sen. Okorocha never travel out of the country, and cannot die in London hospital as reported by these unscrupulous elements. "My Principal is in Abuja, he just returned from his home state where he attended the funeral ceremony of the late elder statesman Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu last Friday, November 1, and later hosted the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, along with other representatives, at his Spibat residence in Owerri.

“It was so strange and irresponsible for anyone to publish such hefty reports claiming fellow human being is dead. Sen. Rochas Okorocha will not be detracted nor coarse in his resolve to always give back to the society, from his wealth of knowledge in view to make Nigeria a better place for all.” Emma Jr. affirmed.

Matawalle and the Truth We Knew All Along

In recent appearances on Channels Television and TVC, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, spent considerable airtime casting aspersions on his predecessor, now the Minister of State for Defense, Dr. Bello Matawalle. With accusations ranging from alleged financial support for banditry to outright complicity in Zamfara’s security woes, Lawal’s claims stirred controversy and pointed a finger at the very individual now entrusted with a critical national security portfolio.

Governor Lawal’s use of public funds for these media campaigns against Dr. Matawalle raised eyebrows. His accusations, heavy with implication but thin on proof, came at a significant expense to the Zamfara State treasury, with private jets ferrying him from Gusau to media platforms in a determined but ultimately baseless crusade. Notably, the Governor’s statements shed no light on his own administration’s achievements or his approach to resolving the security challenges facing Zamfara, a curious omission that left many questioning his priorities.

In an interview with Channels Television, Dr. Matawalle decisively addressed Lawal’s allegations. With characteristic directness, Matawalle explained that his fallout with Lawal stemmed from an incident in which Lawal allegedly attempted to solicit financial gain under false pretenses while Matawalle was Governor. Matawalle went further to refute the accusations outright, insisting on his unwavering opposition to banditry and his extensive efforts to stabilize Zamfara through non-kinetic measures. Under Matawalle’s tenure, local governments in Zamfara reportedly saw a significant reduction in bandit attacks—a legacy that, by his account, earned him the respect and trust of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed him to a key role in the Ministry of Defense.

President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Dr. Matawalle speaks to the President’s confidence in the Minister’s capacity to tackle insecurity effectively. The President, it seems, recognized the former Governor’s commitment, demonstrated by tangible security gains in Zamfara. Matawalle’s interview was unambiguous: he categorically denied any connection to banditry, even challenging both Lawal and General Aliyu Gusau to publicly swear, as he had, on the Holy Quran that they, too, had no ties to banditry. Neither man has taken up Matawalle’s challenge, fueling speculation about the weight of his words and the silence of his accusers.

On October 23, 2024, a statement by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu echoed what many had suspected: The National Security Adviser (NSA) had conducted a thorough investigation into Lawal’s accusations against Dr. Matawalle, ultimately finding them groundless. NSA Malam Nuhu Ribadu affirmed that, after careful examination, the accusations were categorically false—a conclusion that, for many, underscored Matawalle’s long-held claims and his evident dedication to uprooting banditry. Since taking office as Minister of State for Defense, Matawalle has overseen operations that resulted in the elimination of seven notorious bandit leaders in the North West, a rare achievement that bolsters his reputation.

Dr. Bello Matawalle’s steadfast approach to governance and security has proven him a capable leader in a deeply challenging role. The rigorous scrutiny and investigations have cleared his name, reinforcing what many suspected all along: that Matawalle, as a defender of peace, remains resolute in his fight against banditry, securing both his own legacy and his position in Nigeria’s ongoing battle for stability and security.
