A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, Chief Perekeme Kpodo, has accused the party’s chairman, Tiwei Orunimighe of doctoring the delegates’ list and compelling delegates to vote for a former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva. According to him, Orunimighe had been taking delegates to the house of a chieftain where they were allegedly asked to vote for Sylva at the primary. Kpodo stated this in an interview with The Punch on Sunday, decrying the situation and demanding that all aspirants should be given a level playing field during the primary. He said that forcing delegates to vote for a particular aspirant negated the principles of democracy, adding that if Sylva emerges as the APC candidate, the party would lose the governorship election. He said: “I want to use this opportunity to advise the delegates not to yield to the manipulation by Tiwei Orunimighe because as the state chairman of the party, he has no right under the constitution to compel delegates to vote for a particular aspirant when you have many aspirants. “Our position is that the party’s leadership cannot support one candidate; they should allow the delegates to make their choice. “We got the information that Orunimighe carried delegates to a chieftain’s house and that is exactly what he has been doing, persuading and compelling the delegates, but some of them have been complaining. “What they have done now is to change the delegates’ list to suit them because of a hidden agenda and that is why they have blackmailed some of us who are supposed to correct some of these problems.” Kpodo called on the national leadership of the party to intervene in the matter and ensure that delegates were given a free hand to choose the candidate of their choice, warning that attempts to compel delegates to vote for one aspirant would spell doom for the party. “If Sylva is given the ticket of the APC, the APC will scatter and it will fail woefully in the main election. That is exactly what the opposition is praying for. But if we bring any other credible candidate in the APC, you will see a serious fight. It is a battle. To defeat an incumbent governor, you know what it means. “Orunimighe, who is driving the whole process for Sylva, is also not a material. Those people who defected to the APC came with their groups and that was why you saw the crowds. They are also a critical factor.” However, the Media Officer to Orunimighe, Mr. Alawoei Opukume, while speaking to The Punch, slammed Kpodo, saying he was no longer a member of the APC. He added that since Kpodo was not a member of the party nor an aspirant, he had no right to criticise the party. Opukeme, who described Kpodo as a blackmailer who was bent on seeking relevance, said he had since been expelled by the APC for anti-party activities. “As far as we are concerned, Kpodo is not an APC member. He is simply an impostor and does not have any atom of integrity,” he said. http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/14/bayelsa-apc-chairman-accused-of-forcing-delegates-to-vote-for-sylva/

One Ashley Cecilia Castaneda who was found with a loaded handgun in her vagina after she was stopped for traffic violation by police officers during a routine traffic stop on Tuesday in Waco, Texas, USA, has been detained. Reports say the 31-year-old was arrested alongside her confidant, one Gabriel Garcia, who was with her. The Police Officers in Waco during their search at about 11 p.m reportedly found 2.5 grams of methamphetamine under vehicle’s driver’s seat and a set of digital weighing scales in Castaneda’s purse and the duo were immediately arrested and taken to the police station. While being conveyed to the station, Castaneda confessed she was carrying a loaded semi-automatic handgun inside her private part and she was no longer comfortable with it. A female police who was alerted by the male policemen en-route the station, reportedly confirmed Castaneda’s vagina was loaded and had a full magazine. The female police was said to have retrieved the loaded .22 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol therein. The Waco Police Department spokesman, Sergeant Patrick Swanton said: “It is conceivable that the gun could have gone off inside the suspect and that would have been deadly because of the proximity to internal organs.” Both Garcia and Castaneda were reportedly charged with possession of methamphetamine in a drug-free zone. Castaneda was Thursday reportedly charged with violating State concealed firearms laws by hiding a fully loaded, snub-nosed handgun in her vagina, Daily Mail reports. She was also charged with methamphetamine possession. Garcia, the driver, was however, charged with possession of methamphetamine in a drug-free zone because the traffic stop was within 1,000 feet in a drug-free zone. http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/11/police-arrests-woman-with-fully-loaded-gun-inside-her-vagina/

Reports reaching DAILY POST has it that Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada, is currently under immense pressure by leaders and critical stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to step down from the forthcoming governorship primaries of the Party rescheduled to hold on Monday, 14th of September. Sources in the party disclosed to DAILY POST that pressure is being mounted on Wada to dump his second term ambition because they are of the opinion that if he does not, he may be disgraced at the party primaries by his main challenger, Alhaji Jubrin Isah Echocho, whose camp is said to swelling by the day. Another reason for the call is said to be the belief that the governor lacks concrete electoral value to face the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Alhaji Abubakar Audu, in the November 21 election, if he should be fielded by the PDP. According to sources in Abuja last night, most of the support base Governor Wada counted on for second term have been eroded with leaders and stakeholders like former Governor, Ibrahim Idris, Billionaire businessman, Chief Jide Omokore, Chief Tunde Ayeni, Senator Smart Adeyemi and a host of others, turning their back on the embattled governor. According to a source, who spoke to DAILY POST on telephone, former Governor, Ibrahim Idris decided to turn his back on Wada because of what he termed Wada’s affront in terminating a contract he gave to his son, Sule Idris. According to the source, Ibro, as Ibrahim Idris is popularly known, is angry that the contract for the building of a specialist diagnostic centre in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, given to his son, was revoked. Also, the former governor was said to have accused Wada of failing to liquidate the balance of the N4 billion he spent on his election. The decision of Idris to back out of the second term ambition of the governor is said to be a major source of worry because he is said not to have any political structure of his own but only relying on that of the former. Speaking further, the source confided in DAILY POST that the former governor also enlisted the support of Senator Smart Adeyemi, Tunde Ayeni and Jide Omokore, who are said to be ready to break the bank for Echocho to defeat Wada at the primaries. Another source, who spoke to DAILY POST in Abuja last night, said the postponement of the primaries from Thursday to Monday, was a big saving grace for Governor Wada, insisting that he would have been roundly defeated if the primary had held on Thursday. The source, who is a delegate to the primaries, however said the only way the governor can avoid a defeat is for him to step down from the primaries, adding that the caliber of delegates the party is parading for the primaries are not hungry people who can be swayed by some thousands of naira. “The truth is that we have delegates who are not hungry people or those looking for a few thousands to make them vote for a particular aspirant. Things are different this time around. No aspirant can buy our conscience; we are poised to do what is best for the party and the state.” The source also disclosed that most of them, who are delegates, only pretend to be working for the governor because they have to be politically correct. He said they are actually all queuing behind Alhaji Jubrin Isah, who they believe can stand Abubakar Audu of the APC and defeat him. Reacting to the pressure put on Wada to step down, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Jacob Edi, told DAILY POST last night that the governor is on course with his ambition and that nothing has or can derail him. “The governor is not under pressure at all; he is on course and will win the primaries any day it is conducted. He is not perturbed or moved by any of the propaganda making the rounds. He is focused on the task ahead,” Edi said. http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/11/kogi-guber-wada-under-pressure-to-step-down-major-stakeholders-withdraw-their-support/

Nawa o...Those Boko boys still dey? |
Erstwhile Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Prince Chibudom Nwuche yesterday begged politicians in Rivers State to eschew the negative culture of bitterness, blackmail and chicanery in their desperate bid to witch-hunt and to stop Rivers sons and daughters from being elevated to higher national duties. Nwuche, who made this plea in a statement he issued in Abuja, decried the recurring situation where deserving Rivers sons and daughters are often willfully blackmailed and maligned by unscrupulous politicians in the state just to prevent their elevation at the federal level, resulting in the state’s lose of slots for important national appointments to other states in the South-south region. Noting that he has been a victim of this odious practice by some misguided persons, including a former Governor of Rivers State, on account of his principles, forthrightness and outspokenness, the ex-presiding officer regretted that Rivers State had, as a result of this unwholesome practice, lost many important positions to other states like Bayelsa State. He called on the powers-that-be and Nigerians to discountenance and remain wary of the ongoing smear campaign against former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi by the Rivers State government, advising that it is designed to deny him (and invariably the state) deserved elevation at the federal level. Nwuche further observed that it is anomalous and ungodly for the authorities to use Rivers State resources, which should be deployed to the much needed development of the state as well as for improving the lot of the common Rivers man, to pull down Rivers men and women. He urged all well-meaning Rivers men and women to speak out against the state sponsored witch-hunt in order to preserve their state’s resources and their leaders’ dignity. The former lawmaker noted that it is normal during electioneering campaigns for contestants to loosely ask their opponents in government to account for monies accruable to the state, and generally make outlandish statements in their bid to win votes for their parties and candidates, but that different rules applied after electioneering and the commencement of governance. He said Politicians are expected to be more circumspect and weigh their actions and utterances more carefully, and consider the best interest of their states and constituents. “It is very wrong for you when you have now taken over governance to pre-judge and publicly pronounce someone guilty of embezzling state funds, and thereafter constitute a judicial panel to investigate the alleged crime”. “The same authority that has publicly adjudged someone guilty of a crime even before investigating the crime, cannot go ahead and appoint a judicial panel to investigate the said crime and expect such accused persons to appear before the panel with the hope of getting a fair hearing,” he stated. The former Deputy Speaker insisted that those in authority if they really intended to set up a fair judicial panel ought to have eschewed public comments tending to indict those they wanted to appear before such panel, to ensure fair hearing. He pointed out that the judicial panel’s constitution at this time is ill-motivated and appears to have been designed to achieve pre-determined ends. http://dailypost.ng/2015/09/11/it-is-wrong-to-accuse-amaechi-of-embezzlement-set-up-a-judicial-panel-ex-deputy-speaker/
