The United States’ president, Donald Trump will now cruise the latest version of the heavily armoured U.S. presidential limousine known as “The Beast” which will make its debut in New York City this week.




The custom-built Cadillac produced by General Motors Co appeared for the first time in public on Sunday – along with an identical version that travels in the motorcade – when it ferried President Donald Trump around New York ahead of this week’s United Nations General Assembly meetings.

The previous version of the limo first appeared in January 2009 just before Barack Obama took office. Obama told Jerry Seinfeld in 2015 that the limo is “a Caddy basically on a tank frame.” Obama said he “could call a nuclear submarine right here” from a phone in the car.

GM won contracts worth US$15.8 million (12.1 million pounds) for two phases of the development of the limo from 2014 through 2017, according to federal contracting records, but it is not clear if that represents all development costs. In 2010, GM won a US$35 million contract from the Secret Service for additional presidential limousine vehicles.

Juventus legend, Alessandro Del Piero has said that Real Madrid midfielder, Luka Modric deserved the 2018 UEFA’s Men Best Player award ahead of Juventus forward, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Modric, last week Thursday won UEFA’s Men’s Player of the Year ahead of Ronaldo and Salah.

According to Del Piero, Modric deserved the award because the Croatia captain did something extraordinary in Madrid and in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

He, however, criticised Ronaldo’s decision not to attend the awards ceremony in Monaco but said that Modric deserved to be the Europe Best Player.

“I understand Cristiano but Modric deserved the award,” Del Piero told Sky Italia.

“Modric did something extraordinary in Madrid and in the World Cup, so the prize was well deserved. But Cristiano also had a wonderful season.

“I would also get angry in [Ronaldo’s] place, but not going to the gala is something else.”

Senator Bukola Saraki recently declared his intention to run for President. What is your view and what are his chances?

In answering this question, it is important to look at the person of Abubakar Bukola Saraki from the world of business to his foray in politics. We need to also look at him right from working as a Special Adviser in the Presidency to moving to contest for governorship in Kwara. He has learnt the ropes of leadership and for him to contest for President at this time, it means he has more than enough experience. He has done well by changing the face of the campaign. You can see where he declared his presidential ambition. It is not enough for people to say you are a younger candidate. To be a good younger candidate, you must have requisite experience. He has the experience of being governor for eight years and has been in the Senate for almost eight years.

This is coupled with being Senate President for three years. You will agree with me that he is man of opinion. He is a man that always endeavors to change position and ensure effectiveness of the positions and provide quality leadership; coupled with the maturity he has been using to lead the Senate. In a nutshell, he has come as a game- changer and he has brought his best. This man has worked in the interest of Nigerians. Apart from the fact that he has been a defender of democracy in Nigeria, he has defended the independence of the National Assembly. He has fought for the independence of the legislature. He has always preached a new style of presidential campaign. These amongst others things are what qualified him. And with these, he has changed the face of leadership in the country.

There is a perception that the geographical zone of Saraki may affect his chances of emerging as the candidate of the PDP. What is your view on this?

I don’t believe in that. First of all as a believer, you know that power comes from God. Anybody can become a President at any given time. All of us know the history of how Goodluck Jonathan became a President. It is high time we forgot about laying emphasis on the geographical zone of a contestant before electing him as President of this country. If you define presidency on the basis of geographical location that you come from the South-West, South-East or North-West, I don’t think we are going to help the situation of this country. It is high time to look for the best material. We have had enough of this from 1960 till date. It is time to look for quality, the person that has the requisite quality and experience to save the situation. Like I said earlier, it is not enough for you to be a young candidate, but what is important is what can you bring to the table. And this man has it. You can see how he carries himself. All the positions he has held, you can see how he has brought leadership maturity to the positions. I will disagree that he cannot be a President because of the area he comes from. I think Nigerians have learnt enough and moved beyond this sentiment. Nigerians are tired of tying leadership to ethnicity, sectionalism or geographical expression. We now need to look for a competent person who can provide quality leadership. But if we continue to insist on sectionalism or ethnicity, we will be sorry for this country.

The Senate President highlighted what he would do if elected President in his declaration speech. Does he have other plans for the country aside the ones mentioned in his declaration speech ?

He rolled out a 19-point agenda in his declaration speech. He talked about the need for a holistic fight against corruption. This time around, it is not the rhetorical fight or to humiliate the opposition. He is coming up with an agenda to strengthen institutions that fight corruption. He has promised to grow Nigeria out of poverty. He equally promised to stimulate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) being one of the ways of energising the economy and to create wealth for Nigerians, especially the youth.

Part of his vision is to secure Nigeria by redesigning the nation’s security architecture. Saraki is also keen on ensuring that the security agencies are adequately equipped to fulfil their primary role of protecting lives and property. He is also determined to address the nation’s infrastructural deficit through aggressive financing initiatives that involve mutually beneficial PPP arrangements. He has also sounded his plan to protect all Nigerians and defend their constitutional rights and freedoms. Amongst his plans is the need to stand for and uphold at all times the principle of the rule of law.

One of his promises is to offer leadership that would be driven by empathy. He has also offered to run a government with human face and the one in which leaders will be responsive to the citizens. The Senate President is also counting on his unique blend of executive and legislative experience to push for and implement reforms that are expected to deliver real improvements in the daily lives of Nigerians.

Lastly, we mustn’t forget that he has promised to spearhead economic agendas that would transform the lives of Nigerians. He has likewise promised to run a dynamic government of action that will pursue the growth of Nigeria with doggedness, determination and conviction.

I can assure that Saraki is determined to lead the war against poverty and he is very much prepared to take a sizeable number of the poor out of poverty zone in four years.

Sincerely, a Nigeria of our collective dream will be delivered with the achievements of these plans if God says Saraki will be president.

According to Nicol, the Red Devils could sack Mourinho before the end of this week.

“I wouldn’t be shocked if he was gone. End of the week, I wouldn’t be shocked. Absolute shambles.

“He just got beat 3-0 at home, the place is an absolute shamble, the place is in turmoil and he’s clapping the fans,” Nicol added.

“And in the press conference, the only thing he’ll talk about is how he’s won three Premier League titles.

“What does that tell you about what he’s thinking?”

A Nigerian lady, Barbie Ulonna has opened up about regrets she had over dating a Yahoo boy who reportedly eats bread and excreta as part of an instruction outlined for money making rituals.
She made known her experience during a visit to the former boyfriend who was overheard discussing the sore moment he consumed faeces in a conversation with his pal.
Unknown to him, the narrator who made for his kitchen to refresh herself, was listening to the chat.
This inspired Ulonna to make a quick exit from his apartment. She attributed a kiss she shared with the unknown boyfriend as a reason why she had a mouth infection. This and more were shared via RantHQ, a Facebook discussion platform.
“I posted a story sometime ago, about kissing someone I just started dating and when I got home, I had sores all over my gum, I didn’t think it was something serious since the first sore went away after 2days.
“Well, reading comments here made me really scared, some people suggested I had herpes, so I had to rush to the hospital the next day…. Doctor ran a check on me, and thankfully, it wasn’t herpes but oral thrush..
“Now, here’s the main gist…
“I visited le boo (now ex), with the intention of discussing what I noticed with him, and to know what he actually eats that causes me to have those sores.
“On my way to his house, I perceived a very awful smell at just outside the gate, I felt it’s normal refuge smell, so I didn’t take it to mean anything.
“Few minutes after I visited, his friend also came visiting, and we were all just in the parlor gisting, before NEPA took the light…. Lee boo went to turn on the gen and his friend went with him, I also decided to go to the kitchen to find something to drink, that was when I heard their discussion.
“My people, it turned out lee boo was telling his friend that the last excreta (poo) they brought was smelling very terribly, he said he just managed to use little amount to eat bread and then threw away the remaining in the neighbors trash, his friend was laughing and then told him to just tell the guys that bring it not to bring the one that smells too much.
“I fainted and woke up, I couldn’t believe my ears, what?
“He was into yahoo plus? I don’t understand, I know where he works and besides, I wasn’t even dating him for money, I was devastated, it didn’t make sense, why would he involve in such??
“Anyway, I quickly ran back to the parlor, sat down and pretended not to hear anything.
“As soon as he came out, I just told him I needed to go, he was surprised because I only just got there, but I gave one excuse and he let me go, with promise I was to see him the next day, he saw me off to the car and I drove off, that’s the last time I’d ever see him again, thank God he doesn’t know my house. God forbid bad thing.
“I’m still petrified, may God save us ladies from evil ooo, there’s a lot out there, one can’t be too sure again.
“But u see ehh? Before I date anybody again; he has to do HIV test, mouth swab, mental check and spiritual check…… I’m done with relationships for now,” says a much wiser Barbie Ulonna.

A retiree, Kolawole Olaniran, has accused his wife, Iyabode, of taking away his three children without his consent, adding that efforts to reunite with them have been abortive.
The retiree of a textile company claimed that Iyabode packed out of his house in the Agbado area of Ogun State without any notice, saying efforts he made towards reconciling with his estranged wife did not yield any result.
He added that since she left in 2017, he had been denied access to the children.
Kolawola, who presently rides a commmercial motorcycle, told PUNCH Metro that one of his children, Bose, fell ill and requested to see him, alleging that Bose was discouraged from seeing him.
He said Iyabode allegedly claimed that a divine message she got from her church forbade their daughter from travelling.
Kolawole said, “I was in Lagos when I received a call that my wife had left home. She left with my children and when we spoke, she said I should not look for her. But the surprising thing is that she also refused to allow me to see my children.
“Bose, my first child who is married, is currently sick. Bose told her mother-in-law that she wanted to see me, but my wife claimed that she received a divine message that Bose should not travel. But when Bose’s sickness became worse, Iyabode allowed Bose to travel from Ijebu Ife to Abule Oko in Ota, Ogun State, for spiritual healing.”
The Ekiti State indigene said he had not seen his first daughter since she was taken to her mother’s home town.
The 63-year-old also said he heard from a family friend that Iyabode and a pastor in her church were becoming “too close.”
“But that is not my problem; I want my children. I want to see Bose. Now, I learnt that my wife had taken her from Ogun State to Osogbo, Osun State, for spiritual help. I am still alive; how will she be doing all that and I won’t be involved? Bose’s mother-in-law told me that Iyabode asked her not to tell me about their whereabouts. I want the government to please come to my aid,” he added.
Kolawole said he had reported his wife to the police in Lagos so that she would produce his children.
The landlord of Iyabode’s rented shop, Segun Ajagun, said he noticed that the pastor was a frequent visitor, adding that he challenged her on her relationship with the pastor.
He said, “When I observed that the pastor usually visited Iyabode at the shop, I asked who he was and she told me that they were relatives. Later, I heard that she had parked out of her husband’s house.”
Bose’s mother-in-law, Mrs Adeola Lawal, told PUNCH Metro that Iyabode had told her not to inform Kolawole about Bose’s location.
Lawal said, “Bose and her husband had wanted to visit Kolawole and they had even bought gifts for him, but she suddenly fell ill. When her case worsened, we were advised to take her to a psychiatric hospital.
“During this period, we told her parents about her condition. Iyabode spent three days with her and left. Bose, however, insisted that she wanted to see her father. We had already concluded plans to take her to her father when Iyabode called that they told her at her church that Bose should not travel.
“When the case was getting out of control, I reported at a police post at Ijebu Ife. I also told Iyabode that her daughter was seriously ill. Later, she got back to me that we should take her to a church. On June 30, 2018, we took Bose to her mother, who took us to a white garment church where we deposited N20,000 out of the N60,000 they requested.”
Iyabode, who confirmed that she took her daughter for spiritual healing in Osogbo said she was not in any relationship with the pastor seen with her in the shop.
She added that she packed out of her husband’s house because he did not provide for the family.
She said, “There were times he did not come home for two months; he hardly provided for his family. I had to leave because I had suffered enough. He is a motorcycle rider. I once complained to the chairman of his union, but nothing was done.
“I am not having an affair with anybody; he should leave me alone so that I can live my life. If it is his children he wants, I will release them to him and after that, he should leave me alone. I thank God that the church I took my daughter to in Osogbo has changed her life; Bose’s health has improved.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said the matter was reported at the Iponri Police Division, adding that investigation was ongoing.
Oti said, “I can confirm to you that the matter was reported to us; the man alleged that his wife left home with his children and that every effort to reach out to them had proved abortive.
“The matter has been taken to the Iponri Police Station for further investigation.”

Falconets of Nigeria beat Haiti 1-0 in their second game of the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France to keep hope alive of progressing from the group stage.

Nigeria were beaten 1-0 in their first game by Germany but bounced back to take all three points from Haiti on Thursday, August 9.

Nigeria’s U20 girls, needed a win to keep hope alive and it was stand-in captain Rasheedat Ajibade that scored the only goal of the game to give the Falconets the win.


The goal came from a penalty after Anam Imo was fouled in the box in the 36th minute of the encounter.

In the second half, the Falconets held on to their lead after the Haitians improved in search of an equaliser.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday referred to defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “bad eggs”.

He said as the 2019 elections approach, “God will continue to fish out the bad eggs among us”.

He reiterated his resolve to ensure that nobody is allowed to loot the treasury.

Hundreds of German fans took to the streets to protest in support of Mesut Ozil after the midfield quit international football.

Ozil announced that he has retired from international football after feeling that he has been targeted because of his Turkish root following Germany poor World Cup campaign.

Supporters on Monday wearing ‘I am Ozil’ T-shirts, took to the streets with Turkish and German flags.

Ozil who is of Turkish descent was criticised for taking a photo with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before the World Cup.

The 29-year-old was singled out for more criticism following German’s exit from the World Cup in the first round and he responded by accusing the German FA and media of racism while announcing his retirement.

"I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose," he said in a statement.

REPS RECOMMEND OBONO-OBLA'S ARREST FOR CERTIFICATE FORGERY

Obono-Obla has also been accused of arbitrary abuse of office by a House committee.

An ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives has submitted a report to the House where it recommended the arrest and prosecution of President Muhammadu Buhari's Special Assistant on Prosecutions, Okoi Obono-Obla, for alleged certificate forgery.

According to the committee, Obono-Obla, the Chairman, Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property, forged the secondary school certificate which he used to gain admission to study Law in the University of Jos.

According to a report by Vanguard, the committee, chaired by Ahman Pategi, who recently defected from the All Progressives' Congress (APC) to the People's Democratic Party (PDP), said the certificate saga has put Obono-Obla's "integrity and character" into doubt, especially as he's refused to honour invitations to be questioned.

The committee noted, "In view of the petition received from Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria against the Chairman of the panel, Chief Okoi Obono Obla, copies of the statement of result, which he was alleged to have used to gain admission to study Law was sent to the West African Examination Council and University of Jos for verification.

"The university confirmed that the statement of result sent to it was the result Chief Obla used to gain admission to study Law. However, the Certified True Copy, CTC, of the result for Candidate No: 094051247 May/June 1982, showed that the candidate was absent at the exam for Literature. In the result with University of Jos, he claimed to have credit in Literature in English in the statement of result issued to him by Mary Knoll College, Calabar.

"However, WAEC disclaimed the result in the Certified True Copy sent to the committee. This cast doubt as to the integrity and character of the Chairman of the Panel."

The committee proceeded to recommend that the Obono-Obla be arrested and charged to court for forgery and misrepresentation.

The committee also recommeded that Obono-Obla be fired as Buhari's aide and urged the president to dissolve the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property due to the arbitrary abuse of office committed by its chairman.

The committee further called on the Body of Benchers to withdraw Obono-Obla's Law School Certificate because it was obtained through fraud.
Obono-Obla responds to allegations

In his response to the allegations of forgery, Obono-Obla said the committee has no power to investigate his panel or his educational qualifications.

He described the committee's findings as a "hatchet job" done to "smear and ridicule" him by lawmakers who are being investigated by his panel. He noted that the forgery allegation can only be investigated by the police since it is a criminal offence.

The committee submitted its report to the House on Tuesday, July 24, but it won't be considered until it resumes legislative sittings in September.

Cristiano Ronaldo (POR)

The arrival of the Champions League's all-time record goalscorer will surely boost the Turin giants' hopes of finally winning Europe's premier competition for the first time since 1996.

Some will think that Ronaldo's time at the top is coming to an end, but his recent form has suggested otherwise. The Portugal captain scored 44 goals for Real in all competitions last season before netting four times at the World Cup, including a hat-trick against Spain, and will undoubtedly bring a massive presence to Juventus both on the pitch and off it.

-- As Ronaldo looks to win the Champions League in a third different country, Buffon will be hoping to finally lift the famous trophy for the first time in his first season playing outside of Italy.

The 40-year-old was expected to retire at the end of last term, but instead decided to have another crack at European glory with big-spending PSG. Buffon will miss the first three Champions League games of the campaign, though, after his tirade against English referee Michael Oliver following a late Ronaldo penalty which saw Juve lose to Real in the quarter-finals in April.

Buffon will likely start all of PSG's big matches, but the lower quality of Ligue 1 may be perfect for the latter stages of his career, with French international Alphonse Areola more than capable of stepping in to give him a rest during more low-key encounters.

Roma (ITA) to Liverpool (ENG) (72.5 million euros)

-- Despite the revelation that he had earlier suffered concussion, Loris Karius' horror show in the Champions League final confirmed what many onlookers had known for years -- that Liverpool needed a new goalkeeper.

Manager Jurgen Klopp had long been linked with a move for Brazil number one Alisson, and the 25-year-old duly left Roma after the World Cup in a world-record deal for a 'keeper.

Liverpool fans will now be hoping that Alisson can help them clinch a first league title for 29 years.

Riyad Mahrez (ALG)

Leicester (ENG) to Manchester City (ENG) (67.5 million euros)

-- Pep Guardiola's Manchester City will be favourites for the Premier League title, though, after their total domination last season. The club's Abu Dhabi owners haven't stopped dipping into their pockets either and signed Mahrez from Leicester after failing to match the Foxes' asking price back in January.

Despite the hefty price tag, Mahrez won't be an automatic starter at Eastlands with Leroy Sane, David Silva and Bernardo Silva for company. But he will add even more options for arguably the best current club squad in Europe.

Thomas Lemar (FRA)

Monaco (FRA) to Atletico Madrid (ESP) (100 million euros)

-- In perhaps the least-hyped 100-million-euro transfer in history, Atletico Madrid agreed a deal to sign Lemar from Monaco just two days before the start of the World Cup.

The 22-year-old from Guadeloupe played just one match in the victorious campaign in Russia -- the dire draw with Denmark -- and only managed three goals in 38 matches last season.

But Lemar is very capable and showed excellent form in 2017 before suffering a series of injuries, and Atletico will be delighted to get his signature as they look to keep pace with Barcelona and Real in Spain.

The Borno Police Command said it arrested a politician, Alhaji Grema Terrab, in connection with allegations of murder and inciting disturbances.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Damian Chukwu, explained this in a statement issued on Friday in Maiduguri.

Chukwu, who was reacting to reports that Terrab was detained by the police, said the arrest was necessitated by the murder and other allegations against the politician.

“The command wishes to state categorically that while it is true that one Alhaji Grema Terrab has been arrested over his role in the offences of culpable homicide, inciting disturbances and sundry other offences, which occurred at his residence on 15th April, 2018 most of the claims in the report under reference are false in its entirety.

“It is worthy of note that Terrab, on 15th April, 2018, organised a political event at his residential quarters, contrary to security advice by the police.

“Expectedly, the meeting attracted large crowd of people. In the course of the event, and right inside his residential premises, one Maina Mustapha Babagana, a 20-year-old welder, was stabbed to death by persons present at the event,” he said.

Chukwu explained that contrary to speculations, Terrab did not present himself to the police to report the incident.

He said that the politician also refused to honour series of invitations extended to him by the police, rather went into hiding.

The commissioner added that the police subsequently declared the politician wanted after due processes.

According to him, the police evacuated the corpse at the politician’s resident and invited those present at the scene of the crime for questioning.

Chukwu disclosed that on April 16, one Saadatu Muhammad Ali, who was also at the scene of crime fell ill and referred to Umaru Shehu Ultramodern Hospital, Maiduguri, for treatment.

“In the course of the treatment, a comprehensive test and an abdominal-pelvic scan were conducted on her at the Jidere Diagnostic and Clinical Services, Maiduguri.

“The result of the medical tests indicated normal-sized ‘anteverted empty uterus’ without any complication or miscarriage as alleged in the media reports.

“She was not released on bail by the police as alleged by the media, but charged to court alongside other suspects,” the police boss said.

Chukwu confirmed that Terrab was arrested by the police on July 17, during a political visit by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Maiduguri.

He noted that the suspect had been charged to court, and assured of police commitment to be non-partisan, neutral, fair and just in the discharge of their duties.

Published on Sunday, July 15, 2018, Nwaubani tells the story of her great-grandfather Nwaubani Ogogo Oriaku who was a wealthy man. Nwaubani Ogogo Oriaku was a wealthy man who dealt in palm produce and the trade of human beings.

"In the late nineteenth century, he carried a slave-trading license from the Royal Niger Company, an English corporation that ruled southern Nigeria. His agents captured slaves across the region and passed them to middlemen, who brought them to the ports of Bonny and Calabar and sold them to white merchants" writes Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani.

Nwaubani Ogogo Oriaku had a license to sell slaves that was given to him by the Royal Niger company in the 19th century. With his agents, he captured slaves within the South-Eastern region and handed them to middlemen who moved them to ports in Bonny and Calabar to be sold, white merchants.

Oriaku was so influential and important in his day that leaders in his community gave him their daughters to marry. He judged over many court cases. He was also revered among white people who had to cut a piece of their hair and send it to him to prove they were Caucasian before they could be invited to his home.

When he died, a leopard was killed and six slaves were buried alive with him.

Knowing about her family's past has disturbed Nwaubani.

"...I’ve felt a growing sense of unease. African intellectuals tend to blame the West for the slave trade, but I knew that white traders couldn’t have loaded their ships without help from Africans like my great-grandfather.

I read arguments for paying reparations to the descendants of American slaves and wondered whether someone might soon expect my family to contribute" she explains.

Her cousin Chioma feels more guilty about her family's past. "I cry and cry and ask God to forgive our ancestors."

Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani goes on to write about her family's complex relationship with the offsprings of her great grandfather's slaves. Known as Ohu, they are regarded as second-class citizens in Igbo land.

"The descendants of freed slaves in southern Nigeria called Ohu, still face significant stigma. Igbo culture forbids them from marrying freeborn people and denies them traditional leadership titles such as Eze and Ozo" she writes for the New Yorker.

"(The osu, an untouchable caste descended from slaves who served at shrines, face even more severe persecution.) My father considers the ohu in our family a thorn in our side, constantly in opposition to our decisions. In the nineteen-eighties, during a land dispute with another family, two ohu families testified against us in court" she further adds.

While dealing with the osu, many Igbo families who profited from the slave trade have also had to deal with the so-called spiritual baggage of profiting from the sale of human beings.

"Last July, my father’s cousin Sunny, a professor of engineering, visited my parents to discuss another concern: a growing enmity in our family. Minor arguments had led relatives to stop speaking to one another. Several had become estranged from the family. 'We always have one major disagreement or division or the other,' my father’s cousin Samuel told me.

My cousin Ezeugo was not surprised by the worrying trend. 'Across Igbo land, wherever there was slave trade with the white people, things never go well,' he said. “They always have problems there. Everybody has noticed it.” My relatives thought that our family’s history was coming back to haunt us" she writes.

In the article, she reveals that her family had to undergo a special fasting and prayer session to deal with the karma of dealing in slaves. She, however, mentioned that the ohu members in their family were not invited.

The drama in Ekiti ahead of the governorship election in that Southwest State, has made for interesting reading and viewing.

A rustic State tucked in the heart of the Yoruba race, Ekiti often morphs into a theater of war at election time. And yes, popcorns will be in order until Monday.

At the core of all the drama is the lust for power and the extent to which politicians can go to grab power. The main protagonists in the Ekiti election battle are incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose, PDP candidate Kolapo Olusola-Eleka and APC candidate Kayode Fayemi.


For obvious reasons, Fayose is backing Eleka to succeed him. Fayemi who was unseated by Fayose in 2014, has returned to complete his second term of 8 years. And incumbent deputy governor Eleka is the proverbial puppet who will only go where the puppeteer says he should go. Eleka is in this whole battle to do what Fayose commands and nothing more. He is not allowed a mind of his own. If you thought Fayose's name was on the ballot in this election, that's because it is, through Eleka.

Fayemi still feels that he was unjustly ejected from Ekiti government house in 2014 by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (who was then Minister of State for defense), former President Goodluck Jonathan, Fayose and a battalion of soldiers--never mind that Fayemi hurriedly conceded victory by putting a phone call across to Fayose as soon as it was clear he had been flogged in all 16 local governments of Ekiti.

There was that recorded phone conversation after the election in which Fayose and Obanikoro were heard barking rigging instructions to soldiers and a group of security personnel. Both men said the recording was a fake. According to reports at the time, the PDP flooded Ekiti with a plane load of cash, soldiers and stomach infrastructure to ‘steal’ the election from incumbent Governor Fayemi and his APC.

APC leaders were placed under house arrest and hounded; and Fayemi famously had an altercation with a police boss on an Ekiti street during the 2014 election.

It is little wonder that as Fayemi returns to fight Fayose again, there have been talks of APC and President Buhari flooding Ekiti with cash, soldiers, 33,000 police officers and stomach infrastructure. Some APC faithful say this is payback time for Fayose and the PDP. They say they want Fayose to have a taste of his 2014 medicine. It is little wonder that a governorship election involving just one State in the federation, has become a battleground and an avenue to heat up the entire polity.

There is another interesting story that says Obanikoro who allegedly teamed up with Fayose to rig the 2014 vote, is now in Fayemi’s camp with orders to deal with old friend Fayose. Obanikoro has since defected to the APC from the PDP.

I have followed the Ekiti election keenly and it’s been all about accusations, finger pointing, insults and more insults. The two major candidates or political parties have been rather quiet on what they intend to do for voters should they win. There’s not been coherent policy proposals from the PDP or APC. It’s been all about grabbing power just for the sake of it. It’s been about exchanging blows, gunshots, teargas canisters and a governor breaking down in tears because he says he was physically attacked. There's been so much propaganda and little substance from Ekiti. It's been all sabre-rattling out there in Ekiti. Politicians who promise nothing before election are more likely to offer nothing after election.

To show how much respect the two major candidates have for voters, they shunned a pre-election debate put together by the media and civil society organisations.

Ekiti will have a new governor on Sunday, July 15, 2018. What no one can guarantee at the moment is whether Ekiti would begin to enjoy the dividends of democracy based off the values and manifestoes of either Eleka or Fayemi. Once again in a Nigerian election, voters have been handed the shortest end of the stick.

A lady identified as Ada Ezeudo from Mgbuke Umunnachi in Nigeria’s Anambra state has reported lost her life after the wife of a married man she was allegedly dating attacked and killed her.

The incident is reported to have occurred in Ifitedunu in the same Aambra state where her corpse was found lying along a road with a note placed beside her.





The note reads: “I told you to Live My Husband Alone you really think I’m juking by coming to Akuzu. R.I.P. Asawwo Girl”


Young women dating married men mostly for material gains has become a disturbing trend which leads to some of them snatching the men from their wives eventually.





It appears some women are getting wild in order to protect their marriages.

Nollywood movie director, Pascal Atuma, popular for films and series like "LAPD Africa Cops" and "Bloodlines," stated in an interview with the cable that only prostitutes and homosexuals make it in Nollywood.

He said and I quote: "If you are not a full time or semi-prostitute, you will not make it in Nollywood. Our ladies are using what they have to get what they want. Even some of the guys who can use their a*s are the ones making it in Nollywood"
