jamuta: The dismissal of Dr. Usman Aliyu by Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University sends a strong message about accountability for sexual harassment in academia. This case underscores the importance of robust institutional policies and their enforcement to ensure safe learning environments. Such actions not only validate survivors’ voices but also reinforce trust in academic governance. What the hell? You're using AI on nairaland? |

If northern governors channel those hisbah sharia police into fighting bandits it will go a long way. A people blinded and confused by religious dogma won't develop, progress or see peace. Na wa for you O. Niger state is in the North Central. They don't have sharia. You Southerners that think everyone in the North is Hausa-Fulani. |

Regionalism is the right way to go if this country is to work, and I see this step as a vital step towards it. It was regionalism that made the political atmosphere so tense that a coup happened. |

Penguin2: Would you blame Azikiwe?
How do you expect him to form Government with a man that betrayed him and used tribalism to get his NCNC members to defect to AG and prevent Azikiwe from becoming Premier Western Region that his party, NCNC, won the majority in the House?
If you were the one, would you trust such a man? That wasn't a betrayal. I don't think they were allies in the first place. But I mean, in the end, didn't Azikiwe's party end up forming an alliance with the AG? But it was too late. |
Politics › Re: Bill To Create "Office Of Prime Minister As Head Of Govt" Passes Second Reading by olyrayy(m): 5:07pm On Mar 27, 2025 |
Penguin2: Foolish Bill.
Should be killed.
What I hate is that some of these men are old enough to know why Parliamentary System of Government was dumped for Presidential System.
The ethnic and religious configuration of Nigeria does not support parliamentary system of government because the north for instance can come together and perpetuate themselves in power by continually voting a pro-North party to gain majority in the National Assembly.
That was what happened in the first republic before Independence even.
Before then Azikiwe’s NCNC and Awolowo’s AG were the only major political parties.
But in the build up to independence, Ahmadu Bello registered NPC as a political party and used tribal sentiments to get northerners to vote the party in the 1959 pre-independence election.
That was how NPC (Northern Political Congress) won majority at the National Assembly and had to produce the Prime Minister in Tafawa Balewa. Making Nigeria to miss out on the refined leadership of men like Azikiwe or Awolowo as Head of Government.
And if the 1966 coup which truncated democracy hadn’t happened, the North would have continued to vote their party and hold on to power for as long as God knows.
Bring back Parliamentary System and you face similar scenario all over again.
If there’s anything we need from the past, it’s regionalism.
They should die this parliamentary bulcrap. The North is not a monolith. Tafawa Balewa's party had the largest number of votes, but they were far from being the majority. They needed to form a coalition with another party to run the government. By the way, Obafemi Awolowo approached Azikiwe and asked for a coalition. Both parties, combined with some other Northern minority parties would have been enough to form a coalition. Azikiwe would have been prime minister and Awolowo wanted to be minister of finance. Azikiwe said no. Penguin2: If there’s anything we need from the past, it’s regionalism. After everything you typed, this was your conclusion? The very thing that causes the civil war was regionalism. |

So, I have a substack dedicated to Nigeria's history. I'm starting off with the recent major historical event - the 2023 elections. I wrote the series in three parts. Part 1 covered the buildup to the election and the primaries. Part 2 covered the campaign and the election itself. This final part covers the events that happened post-election, especially the election petition. If you heard that Tinubu won the election petition but don't know how or why, you can read the post to find out here - https://naijachronicles.substack.com/p/the-2023-nigerian-presidential-elections-e66Let me know your thoughts. |

I've dissected their behaviors meticulously, stripping their façade layer by layer. The bias, the double standards, and the deeply ingrained inferiority complex . These people, consumed by envy, perpetuate their manic episodes to mask their inadequacies. Their sickness is palpable, and their reactions are nothing short of pathetic. After the settlement of the didpute NNPC got additional 10percent from Mobil's share, hence making a new total of 70percent and Mobil sold the balance 30percent to SEPLAT. Politics › Re: When The National Assembly Almost Impeached Obasanjo by olyrayy(op): 4:41pm On Dec 08, 2024 |
Blue3k: The legislature is subservient because the executive pays them off. The legislature is happy collecting checks and looking busy. Anything they do is normally ignored by the public because they lack basic civics education and common sense. Remember Obasanjo was the only president to get his veto overridden by NASS. Rivers State Assembly is the only other Veto override I know about. This shows they are slaves just on one accord. They weren't subservient under Obasanjo's first term. But Obasanjo checkmated them through the nomination process for reelection. About 70% lost their seats because they lost their party's tickets in the primaries. The legislators tried reversing that in the recent Electoral Act amendment by making party primaries direct primaries as opposed to indirect primaries which governors use to remove them. The governors opposed it, and the foolish Buhari sided with the governors. The same governors that he later had to beg to let him choose his own successor. Of course, they ignored him. |
