There are ONLY three writers in Literature segment of NL...OMA4U, DIVEPEN and the rest.. grin. Back to critique! Mechanical accuracy : super solid! (2). Expression : very good (3) Morals : highly educating..My only grouse is that the chapters are too short...Overall, your work is riding on an eagles wing..
Thank you, boss. The next chapter will be long. I will update now.

The poem we are writing this week is picture based. Every member must write a poem that he or she thinks it depicts the picture below. Create a story behind this picture, then write a poem incorporating the elements learnt from Night by Wole Soyinka.

POEM TO STUDY FOR THE WEEK (African Poem)

NIGHT - Wole Soyinka

The Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka is one of the greatest poets, who uses complicated dictions and metaphors to pass across his message. Thereby, to study him attention must be paid to every word and punctuation mark.

Your hand is heavy, Night, upon my brow,
I bear no heart mercuric like the clouds, to dare
Exacerbation from your subtle plough.

Woman as a clam, on the sea's crescent
I saw your jealous eye quench the sea's
Fluorescent, dance on the pulse incessant

Of the waves. And I stood, drained
Submitting like the sands, blood and brine
Coursing to the roots. Night, you rained

Serrated shadows through dank leaves
Till, bathed in warm suffusion of your dappled cells
Sensations pained me, faceless, silent as night thieves.

Hide me now, when night children haunt the earth
I must hear none! These misted calls will yet
Undo me; naked, unbidden, at Night's muted birth
Wole Soyinka -Night

Every member must come up with his/her own analysis that will be discussed and juxtaposed among other members, then one analysis will be agreed upon.

Thanks
OMA

My Master, LarrySun, you said you don't write poem, but what I read here was a great poem with deep meanings. Thank you for spilling it out.

Besides, your diction is so on point that I hope to achieve such feat some day.

Thank you so much, LarrySun.

Why not we give it a try and see. You can visit the Poems for Review Section, post your poem and get it analysed by poets.
I just realised this thread is created in a wrong place. It should be in the Poem for Review section. I will contact the mod to move it.

This is nice. If literary works are not encouraged by our money making organizations like those in the telecoms and other sectors then it is our responsibility to fill in that gap. It would be nice if we also had poetry competitions. I am a member of Abuja Literary Society and it would be nice to let one of the poetry organizations in Nigeria in on it. Kudos to whoever birthed this idea.
Welcome, Sir.

I intend not to mention names in my previous post to avoid epistle and save time, but this will not be completed if I do not mention a particular special name.

Please join me to shower accolades on our dear brother, MC of the day, the mastermind who ensures this comes to past.
