The blind can see and the deah know that he has failed. I may have just a Bsc, but I know how sound I am. Read across literature, politics, economics, history, diplomacy, sociology, law, philosophy, drama, etc to make me relevant. I don't just read withing the field I got my Bsc. What does Jonathan read? This is the same question a political scientist, Prof. Ayo Olukotun asked in his column in the Punch last year. Obama and Cameroun, though busy, but always take delivery of cattons of books which they always read. The other day a US-based PR tried to deceive us with Jonathan reading a book in a dark room. |

I'm sure you that Governor Aregbesola who has an HND in Mechanical Engineering is politically sound than Jonathan. If there is anybody whose PhD should be used as a campaign tool to get votes, it just have to be Dr. Kayode Fayemi, BA Unilag; Msc OAU; PhD London. He made marks in the US and the NIPSS, Kuru-Jos. |

gabicon: John maxwell said ''Leadership is influence nothing more nothing less'' education is and enhancer of leadership it simply broadens ones perspective. GEJ must have thrived as a teacher in uni port but follows don't want to be taught they want to be led. If he weren't a good lecturer he would probably have been fired from his lecturing job, I really do not think we should quantify leadership with a level of education I therefore do not support the stance of the professor and also he should remember that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. He never taught in any university, but the Rivers State College of Education. |

If there is anything you can't take away from the political space of the Yoruba people, it defintely has to be the political consciousness of even the not-so educated. Visit any newspaper vendor's stand you will be surprised at the heated debate involving retired civil servants. The youths are sometimes seen with them discussing. I remember when I visited OAU, Ile-Ife last year during the series of lectures organized to mark the retirement of Dr. Dipo Fashina; at breaks I saw students, professors, leaders of organized labour and other intellectuals engaged in heated political debates. There was no discrimination on the ground of age, sex or academic attainment. It was a typical example of what the juju maestro, Ayinde Bakare called "baba at'omo jo n jeun po, elegbe me gbe . . ." |

Politics › Re: LEGAL PRECEDENCE OF A MINORITY MEMBER AS SPEAKER, HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES by Omimah: 4:44pm On Oct 30, 2014 |
pendy79: There was a legal and valid precedence of a minority party heading the House of Representatives in 1983 when Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke of the Nigerian People's Party as Speaker in a parliament with the National Party of Nigeria as the majority.
tambuwal surely has justification to retain his seat and no amount of intimidation will and can change that.
"Ogene said the 1999 Constitution in Section 50 (1b) (as amended) clearly stipulates how a Senate president, deputy Senate president, House speaker and deputy House speaker could emerge irrespective of the party that has the majority. He observed that similar incident happened in the Second Republic when the then speaker, Hon. Edwin Ume-Ezeoke of the Nigerian Peoples Party, NPP, was in the minority party in the House while the National Party of Nigeria, NPN, was in the majority. Ogene stressed that the 7th Assembly was broad minded and would remain one united House of Representatives in the matter"
http://nigerianpilot.com/quit-now-pdp-govs-order-tambuwal/#fref%23fref I observed the party of Edwin Ume-Ezeoke on google has been changed to NPN. I suspect it has been edited just like the profile of Stella Oduah when her claim of having a PhD was busted. Naija I hail. |

Edwin Ume-Ezeoke in the Second Republic was the Speaker using a minority party. That boy is too däft to be engaged. I once remembered he said a judgement delivered in favour of Lamido Sanusi by the High Court in Lagos State doesn't have effect in Abuja. How däft could one be! |

BOAR: If there should be crisis at all, ALL of them will be the ultimate losers. Have you forgotten the saying, "if two elephants are fighting, it is the grass that suffers." The masses will suffer as deliberating on bill will be put on hold. Plenary will be discussing more of the eligibility of Tambuwal to remain. Court cases will also distract members. |

BOAR: The leaders of the country will do everything to avert this.
PDP will be wise to allow Tambuwal to keep the seat for the few remaining months, any aggression towards him while making Ikedioha the apparent and ultimate beneficiary can only escalate the brouhaha. I pray there is no crisis. Had it been plenary is not adjourned, there would have been a serious crisis in the House. Who knows, Tambuwal may be thrown out of his official quarters. |
Politics › Re: Why Tambuwal's Security Was Withdrawn: He's No Longer The Speaker by Omimah: 4:10pm On Oct 30, 2014 |
Montaque: the IGP withdrew his security details only, and its justified on the ground that he is not a member of the house anymore. About a new speaker,it will be the person the house will vote in his favour when they resume plenary. It can be anybody. And there is no need for court action, its a positive declaration. Who says he is no longer a member? |

Politics › Re: Why Tambuwal's Security Was Withdrawn: He's No Longer The Speaker by Omimah: 3:37pm On Oct 30, 2014 |
Montaque: yes the case was instituted, but what was the decision on it? The sections they relied upon is nebulous. That cannot be compared to the clear provisions that a member of parliament stand disqualified as as such if he defects without just cause.there is no similar provision for the Governors in the CFRN. Its a lacuna and Its still to be decided by the court. Please dont make the comparism, TAmbuwal as far as the constitution is concerned is no longer a member of the house, irrespective of the case in court for the Governors that defected. Be reasonable! If PDP feels what the Speaker did was wrong, are they not supposed to take him to court? By withdrawing his security details and making Ihedioha the new Speaker would only result to crisis when the House resumes plenary in December. This may snowball to a national crisis. |
Politics › Re: Why Tambuwal's Security Was Withdrawn: He's No Longer The Speaker by Omimah: 3:31pm On Oct 30, 2014 |
gateleo: Who gave Tambuwal the speakership mandate? PDP or the opposition members of the House. Tambuwal was never the candidate of the PDP. The PDP wanted Mulikat Akande, while the opposition and majority of the PDP members voted for Tambuwal. We should go back and check this fact before coming here again. The procedure of electing principal members at the Legislature is NOT based on party affiliation. The "standing order" only says that members "shall elect among themselves". No mention was made about which party to elect from.
This is impunity in the highest order. Is the police the court to interprets the constitution? Is the IG lackey of the pdp?. Tambuwal is still the speaker of the house of rep. Read the provisions of the constitution on the removal of speaker. This matter is still in court. Jonathan should be very very careful May you increase in wisdom. |
