(Yahoo News) In comments that may shock some staunch Catholics, Cardinal George Pell has described the biblical story of Adam and Eve as a myth.
He appeared alongside renowned evolutionary biologist and atheist, Professor Richard Dawkins, on the ABC’s Q&A program last night.
Cardinal Pell said the existence of Adam and Eve was not a matter of science but rather a mythological account.
“It’s a very sophisticated mythology to try to explain the evil and the suffering in the world,” he said.
“It’s a religious story told for religious purposes.”
According to Genesis, God created Adam and Eve as the first man and woman and all people are descended from them.
Cardinal Pell’s explosive comments came after he was questioned about evolution.
He said it was impossible to say when there was a first human.
It is widely accepted in the scientific community that life on Earth has evolved over about four billion years

I met a girl about 5years ago when i was still in the university and i was in my final year then, she was in her second year in the same university but different departments.
When i first met this girl i said to my self this is the type of wife i would love to marry, but wen i approached her she turned me down saying that i am not her class. i kept pressing on, until one day that she disgraced me in front of her friends and i was really embarrassed and i said to myself i won't even go near her again.

Nevertheless, i graduated and i went for my NYSC and when i came out i set up a business because in this country for you to make impact you must be creative and hardworking and at the same time productive.

few years after i left school, i met this girl at the airport on my way to a business summit in ABUJA and lo and behold she ran to me and she was blocked by my aids and she was amazed and when i turned to see who that was, i discovered it was this same girl that rejected me long ago. well, we met and had a little discussion and then we exchanged numbers and later that day i called her and she came to my hotel and we did the "Thing".. she later became pregnant and i didn't want her to abort the baby, by so doing, i married her and she moved into my house. we have been together for 3yrs but i feel i don't really love this girl but that i just bought her love with my money and i guess she doesn't love me too but she love my money..

One of the odder stories in recent days comes from Senegal where a referee stopped a game to break his Ramadan fast.
The game between Casa Sport and Yeggo was half-an-hour old when referee Ousseynou Gueye suspended play so his officials could have a drink and eat on the side of the pitch. Despite being heckled by spectators, Gueye finished his snack before resuming.
"Legally, it is not possible to stop a match to break the fast," he said afterwards. "But you can enjoy a break in the game to meet a health need. The human body needs water."

Connor and Noah Barth were crushed to death by a 100-pound African Rock Python that slithered into their room in the New Brunswick city of Campbellton early Monday. They were sleeping above Reptile Ocean, a pet shop where numerous large reptiles are kept. The brothers' lifeless bodies were found at 6am on Monday by Jean-Claude Savoie, who lives at the apartment. Mr Savoie said that the massive python slithered upstairs into his apartment through the ventilation ducts and into the ceiling. Didier Drogba returned to haunt Arsenal as the Ivory Coast striker scored both goals in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory in the Emirates Cup on Sunday.
Drogba made a habit of scoring against Arsene Wenger’s team when he was at Chelsea and, after appearing as a half-time substitute, his strikes overturned Theo Walcott’s first half opener and ensured the Turkish team won the four-team pre-season tournament.
Wenger’s men paid the price at their Emirates Stadium for failing to make the most of early pressure and Drogba’s contribution highlighted just why Wenger is trying to add Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to his squad.
With the pursuit of Suarez having so far failed despite Arsenal making a bid over £40 million for the Uruguay international, France under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo is the only pre-season addition to Wenger’s squad.
Sanogo’s inclusion in the starting line-up attracted much of the attention following Wenger’s claims the youngster was a “top class” striker who would surprise many this season.
And the former Auxerre youngster was handed an immediate opportunity to make an impression when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain dispossessed Semih Kaya and picked out his unmarked team-mate in the visitors’ penalty area.
Sanogo made room for a left foot shot but was unable to find a way past Fernando Muslera, Galatasaray’s Uruguayan goalkeeper.

In between those openings Arsenal largely dominated the first half, appearing sharper than they had in a 2-2 draw against Napoli the previous day.
A strong appeal for a penalty was turned down when Aaron Ramsey went tumbling early on before Walcott failed to make the most of a 19th minute opportunity after being picked out by an accurate long ball from Ramsey.
Walcott controlled the ball well to take him away from Albert Riera but his clip over the advancing Muslera drifted wide.
Fortune, however, was on Walcott’s side when he made the 39th minute breakthrough.

Ex-Canadian Defense Minister Paul Hellyer has said that not only does he believe that aliens are living among us, but there are at least two working with the U.S. government, this disclosure was made when he testified at the Citizen Hearing on Disclosure (CHD) in Washington D.C. in June this year.

We didn’t set out to use celebrity kids. I told everyone including you the age range I want and people suggested the kids. Aghahowa’s daughter has wanted to act since age 5, we auditioned Chigozie, and she did well and got a coach to coach them. 2face’s daughter is just a drama queen. And this movie, Unconditional is not all about them, Dakore, Ruth Kadiri and I acted in it. It’s the kind of move that will touch the heart.
If your husband were to be a serial philanderer like Desmond’s character in the movie, Lies Men Tell, what will you do?
I will castrate him, he knows and believes that. I am saying,Uche Jombo-Rodrigues doesn’t have in-between. That is the reason it takes me long time to make a decision or take a stand on something, but when I do, that is it. There is no excuse not to honour an agreement you have made, this doesn’t have anything to do with this interview. It is the principle that guides me. It is not just about marriage, it’s how I conduct my relationships, its either it is this or that, if that is mymind-set in a relationship, you should know that for marriage it’ll be 150%. A Kenyan man wants the International Court Of Justice to overturn a ruling handed against Jesus Christ by Pontius Pilate that saw him crucified over 2,000 years ago. The Hague-based court has constituted a panel to hear the case.
Dola Indidis says the Roman Ruler did not have jurisdiction to hear Jesus’ case, the trial was unfair and the punishment was excessive.
“I filed the case because it’s my duty to uphold the dignity of Jesus and I have gone to the ICJ to seek justice for the man from Nazareth,” said Indidis, who is also a former police spokesperson.

It's a done deal people. From November 2013, Nigeria will be among the six listed Commonwealth 'high risk' countries whose citizens will be required to pay £3,000 tourists visa bond before they are allowed into the UK. The remaining five are: India, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

But here's what the UK government are saying to pacify citizens of these countries who are outraged by this new policy. They say it's not all visitors that will be required to pay the bond, just people they consider 'highest risk'; that is people who will collect visa and refuse to leave Britain or overstay their visa terms. Those paying bonds will receive the bond back, if they abided by the terms of their visa.

According to the UK Financial Times report last Friday, the UK Home Office say there's no going back as the scheme is their most effective way of tackling abuse in their immigration system. Nigeria and the other five countries account for more than five hundred thousand visa applications in 2012.

But this scheme will kinda affect business in the UK as Nigeria is said to be the 6th biggest spenders on luxury goods in the country.

A phenomenon that can only be described as a miracle has taken place in Abuja where a bible survived untouched when a car burnt down to ashes.
Jeremiah Giwa, who arrived in Nigeria from the United Kingdom five months ago, was the driver of the car. He had gone to the UK for his tertiary education.
Before the car exploded into flames, it swerved off the road, tumbled and eventually landed in a ditch. Moments later, the car exploded into flames.

“My younger brother, Joshua and I were going to pick our parents and elder brother from the airport, so we had an accident on the way at the road before Galadimawa.
“We were coming from our home in the Games Village. The car was very fine and it hadn’t developed any fault before.
That morning, it was raining and the car began to swerve off the road. I tried to bring the car back on the road but the break was not holding anymore.
“I tried ceaselessly and I later lost control of the car. The car eventually tumbled twice after moving zigzag on the road and landed in a ditch.
“I have been driving close to five years and I was very okay when I drove the car.
“When it happened, we immediately unhooked our seat-belts; I talked to my brother for a few seconds to ensure he was okay. We unhooked the belts; thank God it wasn’t jammed.
“We tried to open the driver’s door but the door was jammed. We tried to break the glass too, it refused to break.
“We managed to spot one of the windows at the back; we broke it and climbed out through it, under one of the chairs.
“We went far away from the car to ensure our safety because the car was already in flames.
“The two of us were the only occupants of the car and my brother was sitting beside me in front. We were so shocked that we both came out unscathed.


“We watched the car go up in flames while other drivers initially drove past us. It was about a few minutes before 6am; so it was still a bit dark.
“By the time people began to stop, everything had burnt beyond recognition.
“To our surprise, the early morning rain which we thought could help save the car also stopped immediately the car was completely gutted by the fire. Sympathizers didn’t even know we owned the car.
“They all ran past us to see the burning car. They were wondering if people were still there and all that.
“By the time my parents and elder brother were aware of the incident, they all cried, but I think it was for joy.
“Initially, when my dad was aware of it, he wasn’t happy that we were coming to pick them.
“We had intended to give them a surprise lift from the airport. But, when we took our dad to the scene of the accident, he couldn’t talk anymore.
“He was in tears. The car wasn’t the reason he cried. I guess he was just surprised and was grateful to God as to how we manage to come out unscathed and how the bible was not touched by fire.
“I am sure God really loves us. We had just finished a youth vigil a night before the incident and prayed against destiny wasters.
“Shortly after we left the scene, we went to Garki General Hospital for necessary tests including x-rays. Nothing happened to us.
“We were given paracetamol and pain relievers, which to my knowledge none of us has been taking because nothing happened to us.”
According to Jeremiah, the Bible was later recovered from the ashes of the burnt car while it was not scathed by the inferno.

The conversion to Islam of 25-year-old Charity Uzoechina, daughter of Pastor Raymond Uzoechina of Redeem Christian Church of God, Kwankwashe, Suleja, continues to generate controversy.Her father accused the Estu Nupe Alhaji Yahaya Abubukar, of hypnotizing his daughter, who has since changed her name to A’isha, to embrace Islam. A’isha, who hails from Asaba, Delta State, came to Abuja at the age of 10 when her father relocated from Lagos.

After her secondary school education at Army Day Secondary School Asokoro, Abuja she got admission into Federal Polytechnic, Bida to read Public Administration. She, however, withdrew from the course in her first year. She embraced Islam on February 15, 2013. A’isha said since her family relocated to Suleja, Niger State, she has been in the midst of Muslims, which accorded her the opportunity to have several Muslims friends and learnt a lot about Islam. The travails of A’isha began when she ran to the Estu Nupe’s palace in Bida on March 1, this year to seek protection against any aggression she may face should her family know about her conversion to Islam. This led to a controversy that is still ongoing, with her father accusing the traditional ruler of kidnapping his daughter. Along the line, several meetings were organized between A’isha and her father Pastor Uzoechina and his daughter at the instance of the Estu Nupe, who also involved some members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

But despite that, A’isha refused to follow her father, alleging that he has threatened to deal with her by taking her away to a place that she will not be able to practice her new religion. A’isha has taken the matter to a Shariah court in Bida and the court is expected to rule on August 1, 2013 whether or not the 25-year-old should be released to her parents or not. She speaks exclusively to Weekly Trust.

Excerpts: Weekly Trust:
What is your name?

Aisha Uzoechina: I was formerly known as Charity Uzoechina and now A’isha Uzoechina. Why the change of name? I changed my name because I have accepted Islam.

What brought you to Bida?

I came to Bida in 2012 to read Public Administration at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida.

Are you still a student of Federal Polytechnic Bida?

No, I am not. I have withdrawn from the school.

Did you go back home?

No, I did not go home. At the beginning I was planning to go back home, because I wanted to tell my father that I have converted to Islam. When I converted, I was afraid to tell my parents, because of the way my father would behave. I know he will not take it lightly with me. So, for that I refused to go back home.

Did anybody force or enticed you to join Islam?

I joined Islam on my own. Nobody enticed me with anything to join Islam. What informed your decision to join Islam? I converted to Islam because I love the character of Muslims, particularly the way they behave. You know Muslims believe in God. I have Muslim friends and I watch what they do, that enticed me to join Islam. I used to read Qur’an when I was a Christian. I always join them to read Qur’an and through that I found out that it is the same one God they worship. So I embraced Islam.

How did your father come to know about your change of faith?
When I ran to the palace, I told you, it was very difficult before I could see the Emir. When I saw him, the emir refused to accept me, because my father did not know about it. He, therefore, collected my father’s number from me and called him. The following day my father came and said he wanted to see me. When we met we talked one on one.

What did you tell him?

Well the emir told him that I have converted to Islam. When my father talked to me, he said let’s go home, but I refused. I told him that I will not change my faith, because I have already accepted Islam and this is where I want to stay. He, therefore, threatened me so much so that I became scared of him.

What did he do to you amounting to a threat?

In the first place you know, I put on Hijab (veil), he said I should remove the Hijab. He was angry and used some harsh words on me, directing that I should remove the Hijab, but I refused. He threatened to take me to a village where nobody will set his eyes on me. So I became scared of him, therefore I refused to follow him. That is it.

Did the emir intervene?

The emir gave him one week to come back, but he came back even before it reached one week. He said he must take me home. He will not take me to our house, but he’ll take me to somewhere that nobody will set his eyes on me. I quickly ran back to the emir and to the Shari’a Court for protection. I don’t want to go back to my father, because he is threatening me.

How did you come to know about the Shari’a Court?

I found out from people. I went to them on my own to formally lodge my complaint.

Why Shari’a Court?

They have to protect me. You know when you take a case to court over life threatening issue, the court must protect you. That is it.

Did your father come back after you refused to follow him?
He came back. He kept on coming back. The other time he even threatened to bring some people to kidnap me.

Is it true that at a time your father came with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) officials to you?

Yes.
Is it true that you also went to the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI)?

Yes.

Why did you go to JNI?

I told you and I’ll still repeat it, though I don’t want to repeat my words again. I want them to intervene on my behalf, the threat is too much. Now I can’t go anywhere, I cannot even continue with my schooling. I cannot do anything because of the way he has been threatening me. He is still bringing people up till now to keep watch on me.

How do you know that your father has assigned people to keep watch on you?

There was a time that I wanted to go out, information came to me that my father was around and I had to stay back since I don’t want him to take me away. I know that if I gout anytime,I he’ll pick me up.

How did you come to know about JNI?

I have been reading about them. That is why I went to them.

How did you present your case to JNI?

I wrote to them seeking for their intervention, because I do not know how to go about convincing my father. I also learnt that the emir wanted to hand me over to my father, because the burden of my case is becoming too much for him to bear.

If your father should promise to allow you to practice your new faith, will you go with him? I’ll not. In a family that you are the only Muslim, how can you practice in that house?

You know when he (my father) came along with my mother the other time, his actions and the harsh words he used, even if I go back home, my life will not be secured in his hand. That is why I said I’ll not go.

Did you start learning anything about Islam?
Yes, I started learning how to perform ablution. I have learnt how to recite Surah Al-Fatihah, I am now in my second surah.

Do you pray five times a day?
