Sir, the situation you are in is sad and I emphasize with you.

Please, I want to discourage you from thinking of yahoo. It is a crime, just like armed robbery. I do not think you will ever consider becoming an armed robber, will you?

Alternatively, you can learn some digital skills and offer them online. You will still get clean, legit money.

I pray that you find the woman that will want you and not just go for the highest bidder.

Stay safe. smiley

There is this lady I like so much, even my friends know that I like her so much and will love to spend the rest of my life with her.

One day, I saw her with my friend and I later asked her why she is so close to my friend. She said they are dating each other, that she cannot marry me simply because I am tailor.

My friend is a yahoo boy, he doesn't have any work. The only way he eats is via internet scam. To be honest I was so pained, moreover she is not the only lady to have done this to me. Have met several ladies that told me that they can't marry a tailor and they end up dating yahoo Boys for my street.

They always tell me to leave my tailoring job and go hustle like my frnds to make cool money.

Guys, I am tired.. Should I leave the tailoring job and join my friends to do the yahoo stuff?

Girls keep rejecting me up and down and I am fed up.

Pls advise me

TravelAnyone From Crossrivers Here? I Want To Visit Crossrivers National Park by omojesu316(op): 8:34pm On Apr 18, 2019
Hi,

Thank you for checking this post.

I am a student and I am planning a trip to wildlife conservancies in Nigeria in August as part of some projects, and I would love to visit these places:

Mbe Mountains, Afi Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary, Cross Rivers National park (Oban Division), Cross Rivers National park (Okwangwo Division).

I was able to find the cost of flight from Lagos where I will be during my stay to Calabar, and also the cost of a hotel close to the place (Forest hotel), but I still lack a lot of information.

I saw on google map that the park is not accessible by road, how do I get there?
What is the entrance fee for each park? what is the experience like? How should I prepare? Are there any do's and don'ts?

Please, any information you give will be very useful.

Thanks a bunch.

I feel terribly sad and ashamed when I read the comments on this thread.

Let's try to flip the coin for a minute. The man is now the woman and the woman, the man.

I am very sure Nigeria's internet will rain hailstorm and brimstone on the woman for being an "evil wife" and "wicked witch"...

This is double standard in judgement. :- cry

Most importantly, put what you learn to practice. You will fail sometimes and you will fail hard, trust me on that. But make sure that you fail forward, don't worry but pick yourself up and continue.

I also mentioned that I will love to meet like minded people. I believe it is easier to go far with more people to support you, even the Bible said a three cord rope cannot be easily broke. If you want to talk with me about professional development, I will be glad to talk. Check me out on:

Currently, I am working for Afringa, Africa's first business and career lifecycle platform as a community manager intern.

As I said in the beginning, I am writing to inspire young university students and even pre-university students to start developing their professional career. Reach out to learn from people around you. Join online career development platform. For example, www.Afringa.com gives free membership, and you can meet tons of professionals and entrepreneurs from across the continent and even outside. Utilise these platforms and learn from them.
CareerRe: My Professional Development Journey As A Student by omojesu316(op): 11:31am On Aug 14, 2018
Another benefit that this gave me was that I became more married and knowledgeable. I could speak with confidence to top professionals, and I could dream big.

Another thing I did beyond reaching out physically was to reach out to people online. I joined relevant platforms and reached out to learn from professionals and interact with them.

Beyond this, I decided to practice as much as I could. I joined an organisation that help students become consultants while still in school, and I also began to work on start-ups. Within a year, I have created over 4 businesses, and although some failed, some are growing.
CareerRe: My Professional Development Journey As A Student by omojesu316(op): 11:30am On Aug 14, 2018
From attending these events I grew my network greatly. I got to meet industry leaders regularly and connecting with them, meet influential individuals in different industries, among them include a former presidential advisor, Nigerian legend Samson Siasia, and lots of other individuals.

The benefit of this was that I got to develop a form of relationship with them so much so that I know I can reach out to them for advice and reccomendation.

As a side note, I want to say that as a university student, a lot of professionals will be willing to help you and network with you for free if your are willing to learn.

Here are reasons why I think you would want to stay and read this:

I am a consultant and I have worked with one of the top banks in Rwanda.

I founded a couple of start ups.

I am a second year undergraduate student.

Yes, I am in Africa and I study here.

Personally I believe in learning by doing. I am but a fan of consuming information, I believe in gaining hands-on experience.

When I started university at the African Leadership University, I had a goal: I was coming to learn.

I decided to go out and seek every opportunity related to personal development, professional development and entrepreneurship inside and outside school. Some were free, some I paid money for. There were some events I paid as much as 2000 naira for, as a broke student. I also went for as many opportunities to grow as I could find.

But, I realised that from attending these event I was gaining a lot. I was able to meet people, and gain experiences that transforms the way I think; entrepreneurs that started their journeys as students, experiences that changed my perspective and have me new skills, professionals that had a similar background as mine and were willing to mentor me.

University, many secondary school student's dream and the nightmare for a lot of the students enrolled. Through its struggles, a lot of students just want to get over with college and get a job. Now, this is where things get very tricky. The competitive job market, poor education system, and significantly few visible opportunities crush the dreams of fresh graduates and leave them on the street with their envelope, or underemployed.

Here are some essential tips that will help every student and graduate in Nigeria create a rewarding career path after their studies.

1. Learn Soft Skills:

"Soft skills" is a term used to define the skills needed to interact effectively with people. These skills include; self-leadership, presentation skills, empathy, networking, self-awareness, verbal communication, among others. Soft skills are like muscles, and in Nigeria's employment situation where competition is high, hiring managers often look for the most muscular candidate. If you have applied for a job, and you didn't get the job despite having a great resume, it could be that you lack some essential soft skills. Unfortunately, the education system in Nigeria has not come to acknowledge, not to talk of integrate soft skills into its curriculum. As a result, we are not aware that we need them, and we only happen to pick bits of them by chance. Regardless, it is essential for us to ensure we learn these skills consciously. Thanks to the internet, you can learn a lot of soft skills for free articles, videos, and books, and practice them during your daily interaction with people. Through continuous practice, you would eventually grow those big competitive muscles needed to get your dream job.

The goal here is for you to gain professional experience, as well as give your insight about the best career path for you and how to go about getting the right career after graduation. Whether it is an internship, volunteering for an organization, freelancing, or even taking a part-time job, as long as you are doing something that helps you gain professional experience. You also get to understand office politics, ethics in a workplace, and most importantly, you network with people. Another big advantage is that it will be a significant comparative advantage when added to your CV.

3. Broaden your Knowledge

We know that the education system in Nigeria is still some decades behind, and in some public universities, we still repeat notes from year to year without reviewing them. However, thanks to the internet, we can get updated information from across the world at the tip of fingers, and we can compete with the rest of the world on the level ground. It is important to broaden and update your knowledge so that you will know the important trends in your career. For example, do you know that the job “accounting” might soon be taken over by Artificial intelligence, and jobs like bookkeeping are already becoming obsolete thanks to websites that automates record keeping. Reading books and watching videos on different fields also help to increase the ability to hold a conversation with people in the work environment, something you will need a lot to network effectively with people.

Business3+ Steps To Create A Strong African-wide Professional Network. by omojesu316(op): 2:50pm On Jun 25, 2018
What is networking?

Networking is the whole process whereby individuals who share the same professional interests interact and share information and ideas between themselves that is beneficial to all the individuals and will eventually lead to a mutually beneficial relationship between the individuals involved.

Why is networking important?

“So why should I network?” A software developer friend once asked me when I invited him to a networking event. Here are the reasons for networking that I gave him:

Exposure:

In the competitive business landscape of today, it is very difficult to stand out and be recognized at the same time, especially to the target audience. You will need exposure whether you are a student applying for an internship, an entrepreneur seeking a partnership or clients to promote your business, a company employee looking to find prospective leads for your company or any other person. You need exposure to the right individuals to ensure that your message gets to the right people, and this is a big advantage of networking. By networking in platforms where your intended target audience is, you greatly increase your chances of reaching them.

Relationships

Not that kind. Here, we mean professional relationship. I know that you are more interested in achieving the goal that made you click this link, but we should not forget that you are here to reach out and interact with another human being and not a machine and that human beings are social animals. Through the course of sharing ideas related to our mutual interest and relevant to us, we subconsciously develop a sense of mutual trust, which lays the foundation for a relationship. You could benefit from these relations by gaining opportunities from the individuals you network with, and even if they don’t have the opportunities in their reach, they could refer you to partners who can give you these opportunities. My friend affirmed these advantages when one of his networks referred him for his biggest project yet.

The Steps to network

Having explained networking and its advantages, here are 3+ steps to create a great network across the African continent that grants you opportunities within and across your country’s borders.

1. Join a Professional Networking Platform

You have thought hard about your professional career, and you have realized that you need to network with other professionals within and across the borders to increase you. But how? There are some professional networking platforms where you are sure to find people you share the same interest with, and whose connection is beneficial to you. However, I will be focusing on the new online platform “Afringa.” According to Afringa, “ Afringa is a company that believes people, Africans, are more than capable of doing great things when we network together, that is why we created a professional online networking platform to connect Professionals from Across the continent and the world. Because of the opportunities that come from networking, we also provide a feature for companies to post Jobs on Afringa, and for Afringa community members to apply for Job.” I have a profile on Afringa, and following its vision and the diversity of nationality, I recommend afringa as a platform to build a Pan-African and international network.

Create a compelling professional profile that will get the attention of potential network

2. Create a compelling profile that will capture the attention of your target audience

Now that you have created your afringa career account, you will be doing yourself a great disservice if you have a washed down profile that does not show your uniqueness. Here are the steps for creating a compelling profile, still using Afringa as an example. First of all, use a professional picture. This will be a clear, quality picture of you dressed professionally, with a background that is devoid of distraction objects. Next, fill a compelling information about yourself, in Afringa’s case, this is simplified to “What I offer”, and “What I look for”. Explain what you offer and look for in clear and concise English. Seek to show your uniqueness in these sections, but do not exaggerate. Fill in the rest of your profile accurately with the right information. You will be surprised how often your prospective network checks your profile. Or, you shouldn’t be since you do the same to your prospective network. If you would like to view a youtube step-by-step guidance on how to complete your afringa profile:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoSoMn2qkg8&t=1206s

3. Reach out to the desired network you want.

This step cannot be overemphasized as it is the trigger that kick-starts all the preparation you have been doing so far. Not reaching out, is very similar writing a well-crafted email and not sending it. It makes every other effort futile. However, this step is to be taken with caution, as it can make or break this relationship. As I had written earlier, your goal should be to build a relationship and not just a goal. Therefore, it is important to reach out as a human, stating the following as you seek their network: Who you are and what you do, how you can be of value to them, and what you want from them. Even though you want something from your network, you must also show them how clicking to become your network and develop the relationship with you is more valuable to them than ignoring you.

Finally,

Bonus point.

4. Follow-up

It might sound irrelevant to state, but you will be surprised at how many people forget to follow up on their network after creating an initial connection. Following up is important to create a long lasting and profitable relationship because even when your network is not immediately able to add the desired value to you, in the not so distant future, the network could refer you to an opportunity because you are still in His/ Her mind, and have not faded with time.

My name is Oluwapelumi Samuel, and I am Nigerian, in Rwanda. Through networking, I currently working on a venture that operates across 3+ countries. Here is the link to my afringa profile: https://www.afringa.com/profile/oluwapelumi-samuel-9b2a

Now that you have read through this post, I hope you will start taking the steps towards creating a strong international professional network. Here is the link to Afringa; www.afringa.com
