Science/Technology / Us-based Nigerian, Ayokunle Adeniran Invents Gas-powered Pressing Iron by OmoPastor(m): 1:34pm On Jul 04, 2015 |
The 'Nepaless Iron' also known as the ‘Iron Rhino’ has been invented by a Nigerian Engineer, Ayokunle Adeniran. A graduate of Covenant University, who works as a mechanical design engineer in the United States. The Iron Rhino is a gas powered device which is portable and easy to use. In a chat with BellaNaija, Ayokunle, talks about the inspiration behind the invention, and how soon we should expect to see the product on our shelves. What do you do? Presently, I’m a Mechanical design engineer in United states. I’m experienced in design of elevator components and recently moved towards consumer products. Tell us about the Iron Rhino The Iron Rhino is a product I designed in response to the inability of people to iron their clothes due to electrical power outages. It is a butane gas powered pressing iron, meaning it does not require electricity to function. It looks very similar to and functions like existing electric irons. The butane comes in canisters that retail for about N120 and can last for 1 week usage at 20 minutes daily ironing. What inspired you to create the Iron Rhino? My inspiration came from disappointment. One day, I needed to meet up with my dad at the airport, and the clothing I wanted to wear was rumpled, I was unhappy and had to wear something else. This disappointment brought about the spark of creativity in my head so I decided to proceed with the idea of having an alternative source of powering clothes iron How long did it take for you to complete the first prototype? It took about 2 years to complete the first prototype during which the patent had to be filed and the processing took about 4 years. How user friendly would you say the Iron Rhino is? Rhino is very user friendly because the design was built around user ergonomics, while safety was not compromised. The iron functions at most habitable environmental conditions making it very reliable. The Iron Rhino is going to be powered by little gas canisters. Can you tell us about the accessibility of these canisters to the consumer? The canisters presently are being manufactured by a Chinese company, but provisions are being made to have them produced locally by a Nigerian company. The projected production rate is calculated to serve all functioning irons abundantly, also a recycling process of the canisters will mean users can get discounts on recycled canisters. Are the canisters going to be locally produced? Yes, eventually in future. Do you have an idea of how much each Iron Rhino will retail at? With the present low volume production rate, it is projected to retail for N5,000 per piece, but in future with higher production rate, prices will drop based on economies of scale. What’s the most exciting part of this project so far? The most exciting part of this project is the reception it got from people. I’d like to appreciate all those who shared the posts and created awareness of it. So what is the next step for the Iron Rhino now? The next step is fund raising through rsvp.com.ng for #IronRhino mass production. With mass production, the retail prices will be lower and will be affordable for most people. credit http://www.tori.ng/news/3479/usbased-nigerian-ayokunle-adeniran-invents-gaspowe.html |
Politics / We Are Winning War Against Boko Haram – Buhari by OmoPastor(m): 8:24pm On Jul 03, 2015 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/new/we-are-winning-war-against-boko-haram%E2%80%8E-buhari/ Despite recent attacks by the Boko Haram sect, President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said Nigeria is progressively winning the war against insurgents. He said this in his address as the Special Guest of Honor at the graduation of 174 military officers of senior course 37 of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji. The President pointed out the importance of harnessing the strengths of multiple security actors as demonstrated in the fight against terrorism. Represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Buhari expressed confidence in the quality of training received by officers in the institution, which according to him has adequately prepared the military to confront current threats to national and global security. He, however, cautioned the officers to be mindful of the “distracting and diversionary” nature of today’s highly sensitive media environment. “Some of you will be deployed in crisis-prone areas, for either internal security or peace support operations outside your country, giving that we live in a common global environment, you must be conscious of your actions,” he warned the graduands. On the global scene, Buhari said Nigeria remains firmly committed to the maintenance of international peace and security, adding that the country will continue to collaborate with other governments to promote peace, stability and development on the African continent and around the world. He therefore charged the military to leave up to expectations at all time and to uphold the nation’s enduring legacy in global peacekeeping operations. “As members of the armed forces, you have a principal role to play in protecting the lives and property of our citizens. “While maintaining internal peace and security remains primarily the responsibility of the civil police, the scale of the current security challenges facing our nation requires the military to play a more decisive role in support of civil power. “Always remember that ethnicity and religious intolerance are the greatest threats to our collective security as people and as a nation. I urge you all to guard against these negative sentiments in the discharge of your noble duties,” the President counseled. |
Politics / I Am Not Under House Arrest - Kwankwaso by OmoPastor(m): 8:04pm On Jul 03, 2015 |
http://thenationonlineng.net/new/i-am-not-under-house-arrest-kwankwaso/ A former Governor of Kano State, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Friday said he was neither under house arrest nor invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Kwankwaso said he has also instructed his supporters to withdraw any case instituted against the EFCC on any issue. He made the clarifications in a statement issued in Abuja by his Principal Private Secretary, Muhhamad Inuwa Ali, against the backdrop of rumours that he had gone into hiding following the commencement of a probe into the management of N2billion pension cash while in office. The statement said: “To set the record straight, Sen. Kwankwaso was not invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) nor was he ever placed under house arrest or prevented from discharging his legislative or personal duties by any agency. “As a Distinguished Legislator he is ever willing and ready to support and strengthen our anti-graft agencies in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.” He said some of his supporters actually initiated a libel suit against some people who wrote a petition against him to the EFCC. The statement added: “The attention of His Excellency, Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, was drawn by some of his political supporters in Kano regarding a libelous and unfounded petition against his person before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by his political opponents sometimes in May 2015. “The supporters sought for the Distinguished Senator’s permission to institute legal action against the said petitioners to which he consented. “However, to the Distinguished Senator’s surprise the supporters and their lawyers instituted an action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) instead of restricting the case to the petitioners (our political opponents). “Conversely, Sen. Kwankwaso has instructed his supporters and their lawyers to discontinue the matter against Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with immediate effect, while the unfounded libelous case against his person will continue.” |

Health / 7 Urine Colors That Can Tell You Important Things by OmoPastor(m): 7:53pm On Jun 21, 2015 |
Everyone knows that the color of normal, human urine is yellow, but many often notice that the yellow color of their urine often varies from dark to bright. Discoloration, bloodand murkiness can cause panic and alarm that there is something physically wrong with your organism. If this article is interesting enough for you, continue reading, because the facts are yet to come. What is Normal Urine Supposed to Look Like? The color of normal human urine can range from translucent yellow to amber dark. It is a sterile liquid that is expelled from the body and a product of cellular metabolism. Certain beverages you drink, diseases that you may be afflicted by and foods you eat can change the appearance of your urine. The cause of the amber to yellow color of the normal urine is the pigment called urochrome. Your urine is darker (amber) whenever you are not getting enough fluids. There’s often no cause for panic, if your urine is on the darker spectrum of what it should normally look like. All you need to do, is to drink more fluids, preferably clear water. Why is My Urine Clear? Typically, the clearer your urine is,the healthier you are. People who regularly drink water have a light yellow to clear colored urine, which is a sign that your body is properly hydrated. However, clear urine can also appear in those who are taking in too much water, and may be dangerously close to water intoxication, or overhydration. If the urination is increased, especially clear colored urine and without great water intake can be a sign of diabetes. Sometimes in some people the urine becomes clear after excessive usage of alcohol. One of the reasons for increased urination is that alcohol is a diuretic which means it increases the times you have to pee, and the other reason is the amount of liquids you inserted in your. Because alcohol forces an increase in urination, your body must extract water from other organs because you’re peeing all that water down the drain, along with other important electrolytes in your body. This is the main reason why alcohol leaves you with a bad headache and a nasty hangover and makes you sick. Abnormal Urine Colors Sometimes your urine will take a change completely from amber gold to light yellow. Here are several known urine colors you might be seeing and what they mean: Red or pink urine: certain foods that are naturally red can cause these color changes in your urine. Some laxatives and prescription drugs can also be the cause of red urine. In some cases, blood in your urine stream can be a sign of a medical condition like an kidney cancer, enlarged prostate or bladder stones. Green or blue urine: this is usually caused by something you consumed before. Certain foods, beverages and medications have the ability to make your urine blue or green, especially if they contain a blue dye. Asparagus can affect your urine’s odorand make your urine appear greener. Foamy urine: this does not affect the color or your urine, but it accompanies it at certain times, which can be considered quite alarming. Usually when ingesting too much protein, excessive foam in your urine can appear. Murky urine: this can be a sign of urinary tract infection (UTI) or a kidney stones. For men, semen left in the urinary tract can also cause urine to be cloudy or murky. Orange urine: certain medications with blackberries, beets, dyesand rhubarb, can cause the urine to be orange. Medical issues that can cause orange urine are dehydration and jaundice. See more at: http://www.healthyfoodteam.com/7-urine-colors-that-can-tell-you-important-things/#sthash.nHCAXgNM.dpuf |
