sukkot: You guys need to make up your minds. first it was igbo slaves outnumber every slaves. then when i brought out how that was a sign of weakness, now you switch it to yoruba slaves outnumber everyone else lmaoooo. ok biafra loser Yorubas have ALWAYS been the highest recorded slaves in America, both south and north. That's been well taught hence I disagreed with Francis when he said otherwise. You were never the least traded slave tribes..the hausa were You were never the slave traders...the fulanis, ashanti, etc were You were never the rebellious group..the akan, igbo, mandigo, wolof, Angola tribes were Yoruba were nothing. The only thing you were known for is having a high number of slaves and your religion surviving due to the fact you people were the last slaves to arrive to South America and other tribes, including your people that was already there, readopted your religion. That's the only thing you were known for, nothing more, nothing less |

UnknownT: I still wonder how the Igbos do it, as in they come near you and you lose your original language and start speaking Igbo. Some may say the Olukun mi people were nearer to the Igbos that was why, but what of the Igbo that is being spoken in far away bonny/opobo and some of the people that always claim Benin origin but now use 99% Igbo names and language. And when they achieve this, we don't hear people saying that they were forced to speak/learn Igbo like they are colonial masters First of all, olukumi migrated to Aniochaland, not the other way around. Our people accepted nicely, even accommodated them nice enough by providing them their own place in which they can call a home...that's why I always laugh whenever Yoruba run their mouth on their so called accomodation of igbos in lagos , blah blah. The problem is SE Igbos refuse to learn about other igbo territory outside of their own. If they did, they would have known about this history and use it to shut up that unaccomodated tribe that keep shouting everywhere about their accommodation of others in lagos. Mtchewww. Anyway, the reason olukumi dropped their language and started speaking igbo is because as you said they were surrounded by Aniocha clans, igbo speaking, and in other to trade with the surrounding tribes they had to learn the language. They've equally mixed up with Aniocha hence today they don't bare anything yoruba related and sees themselves as Aniocha as well. Before any SE igbo start attacking me, I'm Aniocha and I know Aniocha are Igbos, we barely have deniers within our people. Just cause I wrote Aniocha clans does not remove our tribal identity. Just want to make that disclaimer before I'm ganged up on. |

Ihuomadinihu: Thank you. That has already been sorted out. He admitted he is just a troll. On a lighter note,i read where they praised igbo women's beauty and work rate. Yeah majority of the articles written about igbo women during that era praised the living sh1t out of them and funny enough, in each praise article I've read, they always write nothing but negative degrading comments about the men. I recall one I read where the author was talking about igbo women and beauty and if they were europeans they will be extremely sort after, etc. Ironically on that same article the author called igbo men sickly looking, beedy eyes and much more negative comments. I'm like wtf... can't even give props to the men that gave birth to those women he was praising. they loved the women but hated the men. But then again, igbo women made their job easier for them. They were more open to mingling and mixing with other tribes . |

sukkot: let me tell you what happened to the REAL rebellious slaves, which are the yorubas, which is why there were many igbo slaves in america but not enough yorubas. the real rebellious slaves, of which 90 percent of them were yorubas never made it to america. they either all jumped off the boat and swam back to their countries or drowned. or they mutinied and attacked the ship owners and killed them and drove the ship back to africa. thats real bravery. not like the ndigbos who allow themselves to be taken on a 3 month voyage in the belly of a ship, and then get mentally unstable when they get to america and start killing themselves. its too late when you get to america. you shoulda been killed yourself like the yorubas did on the slave ships. not after you get to destination. BRAVE SONS OF ODUDUWA Aww now I know this guy grief. Heya unfortunately for you, Yoruba were NEVER recorded as rebellious. There was not ONE single documented slave revolution that involved Yoruba. The wolof, bini, etc from bright of benin were rebellious yes but never Yoruba The documented rebellious groups were wolof, mandigo, akan, igbo, and Angolan clans. YORUBA were NEVER included nor feared or hated by the white masters. The yoruba slaves did as they were told. Sorry for the grievance. Ndo oo. Take heart oo |

No you ended up proving EXACTLY what we all been saying. no one ever denied igbo women were docile during slave trade. Every African tribes women were docile hence till date, the were never a slave rebellion done by women and infact black female slaves were liked more so than the males. The only time the women got involved with any rebellious act is when they were motivated by the males. For example: the only known Black female slave that killed her master was an igbo female and prior to doing that, she was actually loved by her master. She did exactly as she was told until that master bought two new igbo male slaves and both males motivated her into joining them to kill the master so they can escape ( ar least that what their trial said). That master was James Madison's grandfather.
Every rebellion known for black slaves were done by male folks hence the tribes labeled rebellious were labeled so based on the men attitude. The mandigos, the igbos, the akans, the Angolan clans, the wolof, etc were hated by the white slave owners due to their rebellious act and this is a well documented fact. Even the book were you got the exempts quote also verified this hence the same book stated the igbo women were loved while the Igbo men were despised.
So no dude, all you did is Prove us right once again. We still waiting on your "well documented proves" and that seem to be a dawning task of you. The best you could get was getting an exempt speaking of women. Best believe I can assist you on articles from the slave masters praising igbo women while down putting and hating on igbo men. There are numerous of it but alas that ain't what we are talking about. We are talking about the SLAVE REBELS aka the MALE FOLKS. Pay attention. You said you have numerous links amd books that stated igbo men are docile and not rebellious. We still waiting on just ONE proof from you. Yet nothing.
Sigh!!! Self claimed historian why are you so clueless on history eeh? |
Culture › Re: Busting Some Igbo Myths And Rants by OneNaira6: 8:25am On May 04, 2015 |
temitopeadeyemo: I am Yoruba and proudly so. I do not see my tribe as better than others. I do not insult the inadequacies of other tribes. I see others irrespective of their background as humans and must be accorded some respect and dignity. I have noticed however, the way my igbo brothers and sisters have really taken this ethno-political war, thinking they are better than others. They have made some points in justifying their superiority to other tribes in the country and I am here to bust some of them.
Myth #1- Igbos are Jewish descendants or are like Jewish people. Comparing themselves with the Jewish people is a joke taking too far. They say they are adventurous as the jewish people. Jewish people became adventurous for a number of reasons, chief among them is that they were forced out of their country and had no choice but to seek refuge in foreign countries. The Igbos were never chased out of their home country. They chose to leave their homeland to other places. To them, the grass is always green at the other side. Secondly, The Jewish people practiced monotheism and we all know that just like any other African society, the Igbos have many deities they worshiped. Thirdly, The Jewish people speak Hebrew from the Afroasiatic language family while the Igbo is from Niger-Congo language family like Ashanti, Yoruba, etc. I have tried many times to find any similarities between the two groups but I have not found any. They may be adventurous more than any other tribes in country, but so are the Lebanese, the Syrians, Jews and the chinese. These other groups do not feel they are better than others. It is simple logic that you tend to do better when you are not in your comfort zone. Nigeriansare rated as one of the most educated ethnic groups in the US. They just have to make use of the opportunities they have because that is the only way to survive. So Igbos doing well in the West, North and even outside the country is just simple mathematics.
Myth #2- Igbos are the most successful tribe in the country. We can define success in so many ways. I want to assume that what they mean by success is the richest. I am going to come to that. The NBS in its reports revealed that Northwest has the highest number of poor people in Nigeria-71.4% while Southwest has the least-49.8%. South-east has 59.5% below the poverty line. Talking about the richest, I will use the most reliable source for this. There are 12 Nigerians on the list of Africa's richest by Forbes Magazine. Three northerners- Dangote, Rabiu and Danjuma; Three easterners- Kalu, Elumelu and Ovia; Five westerners-Adenuga, Alakija, Otedola, folawiyo and Otudeko. Osagie is also on the list but not so sure of where he is from. What my friends fail to understand is that we all compliment each other. That you are best known for something does not mean others do not have their strength too. They are not the most successful, They are part of our success stories so also our failings as a nation.
Myth #3- 50 percent of people living in Lagos are Igbos. There is no reliable stats to prove or disprove this assertion. The last governorship election in the state has however provided us with some clues. Judging by the voting pattern in Lagos, areas mostly dominated by the Igbos voted for PDP. We expect that if they are up to 50 percent, while other tribes- Yorubas, Edos, Efik, etc PDP should have won the election.
Myth #4- Biafra is the Solution to their problems. According to them, the rest of the country is holding them down. If they have Biafra today, the sky will be their beginning. South Eastern States today, just like most states in the country rely on Federal Allocation. Biafra will still have to bank on the probability that south-south will join them as well. Segregation is not your solution, a country where equity and justice are held sacrosanct is your solution. Today South Sudan are faced with the same problem they had when they were with Sudan.
Your thoughts, insults, criticism are most welcome. These are the richest Nigerians. 1. Alhaji Aliko Dangote – Dangote Group, (Manufacturing, oil & gas,)

bigfrancis21: This is not a theory to be easily said by mere wish of the mouth. To establish a theory as fact, you need to come up with hard evidence. Contributions of african peoples to the slave trade was done by regions, not individual tribes, thus the central african region came first (with tribes such as kimbundu, kongo, ovibundu, etc), next is the bight of benin (dahomey-togo tribes, benin republic tribes, ghanaian tribes, yoruba), then bight of biafra (one country mostly - Nigeria including Igbos, Ibibios and Ijaws). Regionally, bight of benin comes second and bight of biafra third, however individually by tribe, the Igbos trumped the Yorubas in numbers.

How many ejaghams were taken out of biafra in total? 10? Maybe 15? What is your current population to have sustained a huge constant suupply of ejagham slaves? You would rather turn around and lay your curse on Igbos for repeating what research and history has confirmed rather than tackle the researchers themselves who have the evidence.
And please do not fail to produce at least one afro-descended person whose DNA testing points to the ejagham tribe. And equally, tables detailing slave imports/exports by ethnicity and the numbers of ejaghams taken from bight of biafra. AkanIgbo: It is my hobby too. I can save you a lot of time and tell you right now that the Akan people were by far the most rebellious slaves. The second most rebellious group were the Igbos. Those two groups overthrew the slavers in in Haiti and Jamaica. The slavers in South Carolina and Georgia didn't want anymore Igbo slaves, because they constantly rebelled and worst yet committed suicide. One of the scariest slave to have was an Akan. Nat Turner in the US was of Akan descent and possibly even Igbo due to his being from Virginia.

Fwiw, you know that Yoruba people were not that rebellious as compared to Igbo people for a lot of reasons. Mainly, because slavery ended in the USA in 1865 after a prolonged brutal bloody civil war that the slaves participated within. Slavery didn't end in Brazil until 1888, which was 23 years after slavery ended in the USA. The crazy part about it is that the slaves in the USA were in the minority of the population; they have never been the majority. The black people in Brazil have always been in the majority of the population until just recent years. No it was wolof. Wolof were the most rebellious, followed by Akan then Igbo and finally Angolan clans |

Anyway, I'll be Waiting on it. I'm interested to see the documentation that goes against every other written documentation of AA history. I'm very interested in to see that documentation. |
