We all strive to be the best at our crafts. Whether you’re a freelance writer, a businessperson, a teacher, or a salesperson, acquiring strong writing skills to help you effectively communicate your thoughts and generate leads is essential for success. But if it seems like achieving this is easier said than done, you’re in the right place! I’ve put together 5 practical ways to improve your writing skills. These simple, yet effective and actionable tips will help you hone your writing skills, maximise your potentials and achieve tangible results. Let’s dive right into it. 1. Learn the basics of grammar and spelling Too many grammatical mistakes will distract your readers from your writing. While you’re not expected to attain ‘grammar god’ status and make no mistake ever (no one can), at least an intermediate understanding of the basics of grammar and spelling will significantly improve your writing. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to enrol in some expensive course at Harvard to achieve this. There are tons of free or affordable resources on the Internet at your disposal, such as Merriam Webster, Grammar Girl, Grammarly, and good ol’ Google, which I often use. 2. Read Critically One of the most constructive ways to improve your writing skills is to read the works of others, especially those whose writing styles stand out to you and who you aspire to write like. You can read novels, newsletters, poems, financial reports, speeches and more by people within and even outside your field. Read not just for fun but to broaden your literary horizon. While recreational reading can help your skills, another effective way is analytical reading, where you take the writing apart and study words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that stand out to you and then apply them in your own writing. 3. Practice What better way to improve your writing skills than by writing regularly? One of the greatest writers of our time, Ernest Hemingway, wrote between 500 and 1,000 words a day, while the king of horror novels, Stephen King, has claimed to write 2,000 words a day. King said, “If I don’t write every day, the characters begin to stale off in my mind … I begin to lose my hold on the story’s plot and pace.” Consistency is vital to becoming a revered writer. You can even make it a habit to write a post on current happenings on your Facebook page daily or consider writing exercises. Choose a schedule, medium, and pace that works for you but be sure to stick to it. Practice makes perfect! 4. Find a Writing Partner When people think of writing, they usually envision it as a sole endeavour. But even the best writers collaborate with others in their craft, and you should too. This doesn’t necessarily mean you should start a manhunt for someone to co-author your next blockbuster, but finding friends or colleagues who would be willing to give you feedback on your writing. They can help spot mistakes in your work you may have overlooked or, overall, provide constructive criticism to help you improve. 5.Join a writing workshop Rounding up this list of practical ways to improve your writing skills is joining a workshop. This tip is not only practical but fun as well. Writing workshops can help stimulate you to read and write consistently, while useful ideas, tips, and resources are shared between like-minded participants in a relaxed environment. You can attend writing workshops online or offline in your local community. One example of a popular writing workshop is award-winning writer Chimamanda Adichie’s annual Creative Writing Workshop, which she says serves “as a platform for writers to learn from one another and from established writers.” You can also inquire about writing workshops or groups from your local library or on sites like Meetup. I’d like to conclude with this inspirational nugget by Octavia E. Butler which says: “You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.” There are enough resources in the world today to get you from amateur to expert scribe in due time, but the question is, are you willing to do the work? Got other practical writing tips that have helped you? Share them in the comments section below and tell us which of the aforementioned tips strikes a chord with you most. Just after announcing her the winner of the 2018 Miss Africa pageant, the pretty ebony Miss Congo’s afro caught fire from the fireworks used to celebrate her victory. Thankfully, it was successfully extinguished. It would have been a major incident. The event was held in Calabar, Nigeria, and was concluded in the early hours of today, Friday 28th of December, 2018. Miss Nigeria contestant came in 2nd place. Source: @quotarama/Instagram

One Kid, one hot celebrity vixen, one spicy video, three million YouTube views and counting, the Wizkid Fever is sweeping across the Internet, much to the delight of fans worldwide. Following the average reception of Fever’s audio released three weeks ago, Wizkid upped the game and surpassed everyone’s expectations with the release of the suggestive music video on Wednesday. You must have seen the video by now, and if not, don’t dull yourself, watch it here: https:///2883dq Never have I seen so many people so excited to catch a fever before Like any work of art, there are people who “get it” and people don’t, normal sturvs. So, join me— whether you’re a fan of the video or not— in digging out the very best and worst moments of Fever. The best moment: Since its release, encomium has been pouring in for Fever from all walks of life. On Thursday, the video was certified fresh by Daddy Freeze himself. In his words, “I think the video for #Fever is great, the chemistry is amazing, Wiz did a good job and so did Tiwa.” Then he went ahead and slammed it a sumptuous score of 9.5/10. I couldn’t agree more. Despite the 10-year age gap, the electricity flowing between Wizkid and Tiwa in the video is palpable, and it has probably generated more current in Nigeria than PHCN has in the past week (references loading). The way Wiz’s fingers traced the contours of Tiwa’s curves, the way their eyes locked in each other's and his lips brushed sensually against hers, tell yourself the truth, you felt it too! ![]() There are so many fantastic moments such as this in the video, but the best came early in the 00:54 mark. It’s simply coal fire: not blazing, not all smoke and little heat, but intense, heartfelt passion. #PepperStewEverywhere! The worst moment: So, Tiwa and Wizkid have been teasing us for a while now with their relationship. The music superstars finally get together in a hot video, they had a romantic location, they had themselves to themselves, and they failed woefully to get our fevers up to 100 degrees with a passionate kiss, or any kind of kiss sef. So the worst moment for me shares the same spot with the best at the 00:54 mark simply because they came so close, but yet so far. That is, they gave us STEW without meat (Thumbs (okay half a thumb) down, guys! I suspect the only people happy with this are Wizkid and Tiwa’s innumerable crushes and probably Teebillz, Tiwa’s estranged husband, and one or all of Wiz’s babymamas.Bonus Second Best: What’s better than one best moment? Two! From its African theme to Tiwa’s bodacious bod, Fever serves us enough reasons to keep on loving it. And the bonus best moment lies towards the end of the video, at the 03:33 mark, precisely, with Tiwa leaning into her Lion and city lights glimmering in front of them. The moment seems to say, “We don’t care about anyone else— whether haters or age-checkers— we've got our money, we've got each other, we've got the world.” It’s just a magical and suggestive moment, and, yes, I totally dig the Royce too. So, there you have it! The Fever video stripped down to its top and bottom moments. No doubt, the video is one of the best to be released this year, and I can’t wait for more from the duo. But how about you, do you agree with my picks? What are your best and worst (if any) moments from the video?

Monkeypox is a disease caused by the monkeypox virus which was first identified in laboratory monkeys, hence the name. Natural hosts of the virus include rodents, pets, and primates. The virus is spread to humans through contact with infected animals. Monekypox occurs mainly in central and west Africa. Symptoms In humans, the disease is similar to smallpox, though not as severe. Early symptoms of the disease include fever, headache, swelling of lymph nodes, muscle pain, and lack of energy. Later, a skin rash develops with the face, palms and soles of the feet most affected. The rash ultimately crusts over and fades. Symptoms last between 14 to 21 days. Mortality According to WHO, fatalities from monkeypox has been less than 10%, and adults are more likely to recover than children. Treatment Currently, there is no cure for the monkeypox disease, though taking the smallpox vaccine can help in preventing infection. However, the smallpox vaccine is no longer available to the general public. Cases in Nigeria According to The National Centre for Disease Control, Abuja, 31 suspected cases have been recorded in seven states in Nigeria, namely Bayelsa, Rivers, Ekiti, Akwa-Ibom, Lagos, Ogun, and Cross River, with no recorded deaths. Monkeypox in Lagos At a news conference on Monday, 9th, the Lagos State commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, said that two suspected cases of Monkeypox have been recorded in the state, and the infected persons were being observed. “Though no confirmed case has been recorded, there is need to sensitize members of the public and provide adequate information on measures for prevention and control of the disease in line with the policy of the State government,” he said. Prevention measures • Cook all animal meat and blood thoroughly before eating. • Wear appropriate protective clothing when slaughtering animals or when handling sick animals. • Avoid close physical contact with people or animals infected with the monkeypox virus. • Wear protective equipment when taking care of people suspected to be infected. • Practice good hygiene; wash your hands thoroughly after contact with infected humans or animals.

Copyright 2017 Onnybee. All rights reserved. Please feel free to comment and criticize. I don't bite ![]() THEY CALLED ME MOM I stared at the house, transfixed and mesmerized at what I saw. My flower-patterned nightgown danced around me to the rhythm of the cool night’s breeze and the short blades of grass felt cold and prickly beneath my bare feet. I curled my toes around them; a sort of reminder to myself that all I was seeing was real because it could be hard to believe it. It was a beauty to behold. Such a marvellous sight! Some distance in front of me, large flames were shooting to the sky like fearless, fiery monsters. The inferno was raging like demented dragons dancing to some supernatural tune, consuming everything around them with the sole aim of bringing the entire six-bedroom duplex down. The burning house was a place I had erroneously called home for five years of my life; a place I once thought I could find love and peace. I was wrong. The fire continued to grow; roaring and forcing its way out through every window and door, nook and cranny, bearing clouds of smoke blacker than the night’s sky. But in the midst of all the chaos, I was glad. Because they were finally free. ‘They’ - Greg and twins, Anne and Grace whom no matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t be the perfect wife and mother to. I wasn’t even close. They deserved better – to be embraced in the loving arms of a perfect God, in a perfect place. I had to put an end to their misery - the misery I caused them. Poor souls - I kept failing them, one stupid act after another. There was only one way out for them. I sedated them and tucked them in their beds. Then with gas and an ignition, I set the house on fire. As I watched the flames rise I knew they carried with them Greg and the twins’ spirits and they were already with the angels in heaven. Soon I would join them in that place where all things and all people are perfect. I just had one more thing to do. I just had one more soul to set free before mine. |

The judge’s words had been crystal clear but much unexpected. “Since you have used the goat as your wife, Mr Ikponmwosa, you must marry it.” And the goat had bleated as if in approval. Ikponmwosa had, again and again, confessed the devil to be behind his committing the abominable act but when shame came, it enveloped him alone. The ceremony had been grand, sponsored by the community. There were many guests from far and near; curious souls that had come to have a glimpse of the thirty-four year old man and his powdered up goat-bride. Even the judge came and didn’t leave until he had had his full of goat-meat pepper soup. After the ceremony things went back to normal, except in Ikponmwosa’s house where the devil had returned. One very normal evening, Gabriel, a neighbor, went to borrow some butter from Ikponmwosa just before dusk. But after receiving his measure Gabriel mischievously asked, “How’s your wife?” In a split second, Ikponmwosa grabbed the cutlass behind his door with one hand and Gabriel’s neck with the other and unleashed all the fury that frustration and depression had cooked up inside of him since his union to that bloody goat, hacking his neighbor to pieces. He then calmed down and without even cleaning up, sat on a wooden bench in front of his hut and waited for the inevitable- a reality he would rather live with.

All these criminals sef. If everyone takes to crime in Nigeria, how would the country look? I don't pity these ones. They're lucky to still be alive. |
Burning off the hair of goats, cows and co with tires is toxic in itself. Not washing it properly makes it even worse. God help us. We didn't remove anything oh. The guy no gree chop am . bigtt76: |
I stopped eating food bought from the 'bukka's around where i work after eating pink, and seeing a colleague eating purple (no kidding) jollof rice a couple of times. Just some minutes back, my colleague sent for a meal from one of those 'bukka's and found this in his kpomo. . Looks like paint tho. Let's all be careful about what we eat outside.

Hi, everyone. Just to make a couple of things clearer: Breast ironing is practised in all parts of Cameroon, and has been reported in Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea-Conakry, Togo, Chad, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South-Africa. Some sources add Nigeria to the list but since i was young and now i am getting old, i have never heard of breast ironing being practised here. If you have, please let us know. If you are from any of the above countries apart from Cameroon and are sure your country is being falsely accused of this barbaric act, also please let us know. In Britain, the act is being carried out on girls in west-African communities in Birmingham and London. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3510492/British-girls-young-10-face-harm-breast-ironing-stones-heated-hot-caoals-ritual-imported-west-Africa.html Your comments are appreciated. I have learned some things from them myself. |

Though it sounds very absurd, it is very true and i'll put it at par with female circumcision. Women dey suffer sha! |
From what I could gather, this is a practice carried out mainly here in Africa that involves the use of instruments such as pestles, hot grinding stones, bananas, coconut shells, spatulas and coal-heated hammers to press, massage and crush the developing breast tissues of many young girls at the early stage of puberty. This is done to prevent them from being attractive to males and hence prevent rape and other forms of sexual abuse. ![]() This ‘culture’ is widespread in Cameroon and other African countries including Kenya, Benin and Ivory coast, and affects around 3.8 million teenagers overall according to the United Nations. Breast ironing is usually performed by the victim’s mother on the basis that she is trying to protect the girl from sexual harassment and rape, to avert early pregnancy that would smear the family name, or to let the girl go after education instead of being forced into early marriage. This practice is extremely painful and the girls are put at risk of tissue damage and cysts, malformed breasts, and in extreme cases it can cause one or both breasts to disappear. There are worries that breast ironing has spread to the diaspora with an increase in the number of cases in Britain though charities, NGOs and human right groups are working to raise awareness concerning the problem.

That's the result of the cow skin being singed with fire. Usually they use old tires to burn off the skin more quickly, it is that process that has resulted in that discoloration. You're seeing it because it was not properly washed using strong sponge. Just use knife comot am joooor
