Northern Counter Coup of July 28, 1966Edit

In July 1966 Lieutenant Muhammadu Buhari was one of the participants in a coup led by Lt-Col Murtala Muhammed that overthrew and assassinated Nigeria's first self-appointed military Head of State General Aguiyi Ironsi who assumed leadership of the Nigerian government after a failed coup attempt on January 15, 1966 which overthrew the elected parliamentary system of government of independent Nigeria (also known as first republic). Ironsi's assumption of Nigeria's leadership was technically another coup following the January 15, 1966 coup. Other participants in the July 28, 1966 coup included 2nd Lieutenant Sani Abacha, Lieutenant Ibrahim Babangida , Major Theophilus Danjuma, Lieutenant Ibrahim Bako among others. The coup was a reaction to the January 15 coup where a group of mostly Igbo led by Major Chukwuma Nzeogwu overthrew the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. Many Northern soldiers were aggrieved by the murder of senior politicians, Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, northern regional premier, Ahmadu Bello, and four senior officers, Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, Colonel Kur Mohammed, Lt-Cols Abogo Largema and James Pam. The counter-coup was very bloody leading to the murder of mostly Igbo officers. Among the casualties were the first military head of state General Aguiyi Ironsi and Lt Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi, the military governor of the Western Region.

In March 1976, the then Head of State, General Olusegun Obasanjo appointed Buhari as the Federal Commissioner (position now called Minister) for Petroleum and Natural Resources. When the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation was created in 1976, Buhari was also appointed as its Chairman, a position he held until 1978. During his tenure as Commissioner, 2.8 billion Naira allegedly went missing from the accounts of the NNPC in Midlands Bank in the United Kingdom. Former President Ibrahim Babangida allegedly accused Buhari of being responsible for his fraud.

However, according to the Modalities for Coordinating Nigeria's Anti-Corruption Strategies, Constructive Engagement Vol.1 No.1, (2009), in 1983, Shagari administration inaugurated the Crude Oil Sales Tribunal of Inquiry, headed by Justice Ayo Irikefe, to investigate allegations of N2.8 billion misappropriation from the NNPC account. The tribunal however found no truth in the allegations even though it noticed some lapses in the NNPC accounts.

APC has been consistent in sayin that PDP has ruled Nigeria for 16 disastrous years in which corruption, impunity, insurgency, armed robbery and several ills of society held sway.
But at a very close look at the APC, I am seeing:
1. Rotimi Amaechi – 8yrs speaker; 7 years, Governor under PDP.

2. Atiku Abubakar – 8yrs Vice president under PDP.

3. George Akume – 8yrs Governor under PDP.

4. Bukola Saraki – 8yrs Governor, 2yrs, Senator under PDP.

5. Timipre Sylver – 4yrs Governor under PDP.

6. Audu Ogbe – 2yrs Chairmanship of the PDP.

7. Aminu Masari – 4yrs as the Speaker, House of Representatives under PDP.

8. Chris Ngige – 3yrs Governor under PDP.

9. Rabiu Kwankwaso –7yrs Governor; 3yrs Defense minister under PDP.

10. El Rufai – 4yrs FCT Minister; 2yrs BPE chairman under PDP.

11. And to round it all, Obasanjo is the navigator of the APC, a man who spent 8 of the disastrous 16yrs as the maximum ruler of Nigeria.
It is now clearer that APC is a waste basket of the PDP, where the people who created and perpetuated the 16 disastrous years are now dumped.So where is the change coming from? Are they now saints because they joined APC?

Consequently, candidates are advised to first check the Ambrose Alli University cPortal @ www.myaau.com for their details by logging on to the cPortal with their JAMB UTME registration number as access code.
Such details containing the students bio data and AAU application number should be printed out by the candidates and used as payment instrument at the banks for the purchase of the eTranzact PIN.
 
On purchase of the eTranzact PIN (Payment Voucher), all candidates are to visit the Ambrose Alli University cPortal @ www.myaau.com to complete and submit the post UTME online application form. All such candidates must upload their coloured passport photograph and scanned copies of all relevant certificates/documents to the cPortal.

Candidates should preview and confirm that the passport photograph is properly uploaded as no complaint of wrong or blank picture will be entertained after submission of forms. Candidates are to print out a copy of the application form with their passport photograph for presentation along with other documents on the screening dates stated above. The examination study guide is available for download on completion of the application process. 

All candidates are to come to the venue of the screening exercise with the following:
1. UTME e-registration slip and UTME result slip.
2. HB pencil, eraser and biro.
3. A print-out of the duly completed post UTME Online Application form.

Sad news has filtered through the Nigerian entertainment community that the veteran Nollywood actor, Enebeli Enebuwa has passed on. He reportedly died on Tuesday night at a hospital in India after a protracted ailment.

Enebuwa who has been down with stroke for more than a year now was once in the news over a controversial healing by the General Overseer of Perfect Christianity Ministry, Surulere, Pastor Sign Fireman. The Pastor reportedly claimed to have healed him, posting a video of his healing on YouTube. However, Enebuwa’s family later debunked the Pastor’s claim.

Enebuwa was moved to an Indian hospital with funds put together by some Nollywood actors. His condition is said to have worsened some days back.

May his soul Rest In Peace. Our prayers and well wishes to his family.
