My response refers to those who are selling at what they bought the item or even more.
We all should be reasonable but some have lost their sense of judgement and reasonableness
Bruh, this is why I say we need a "broader level of reasoning"
And let me try and expand your reason;
You believe "Nigerians" have lost their sense of judgment, because they choose to sell their cars at the current market value ( which has increased in value because it's one of the most sought after cars in Nigeria) yh.
For that Nigerians are greedy yeah?

Let me take you abroad for a sec.
One of the most sought out cars in the U.S, the Toyota supra mark IV (2002), it's not a vintage car or anything, It's a 2002 Toyota.
It always has an increasing value, just because it's "sought after" just like our corrolla.
No sane American Citizen will sell his Toyota Supra below what he got it for.
You won't see anyone call him greedy for that, cause almost everyone there understands economics (no be their papa dey control value).
That's why I said most people should have a broader sense of reasoning, it will go a long way.
You talking, if your dad passes his old benz that he bought around 500k that year, that has been in his back yard unto you, and then you discover the car is a 20 year old car that is well "sought after", you go online to check price and you're seeing 10 million naira for each used one, will you go ahead and post the car for 200k because you're not "greedy" ?
Another instance, you're looking online for a phone, it's 200k used everywhere, then you see someone selling for 50k cause he desperately needs it money to settle something, you buy for 50k, use the phone for 1 year (phone still in good condition), you check the current market value, you see it's selling 150k used, will you sell for 30k as "not greedy fellow?
Abeg abeg. grin
Make everybody dey play.
You can go through my previous to see the explanation and instances I have been giving, I am on holidays, that's why I have the chance to do this and try to reply everyone who doesn't understand.

The initial argument was " why would someone sell a car he got for 2m last 4 years for 2m now"

And I decided to chip in.
As long as an item is sold below the current market value, it's a clearance sale.
I’m not in support of greedy folks who try to sell above the current “used market value”
But I no know how una take remix your own to "price you got it" cheesy come dey try play emotional game.
Wether na you buy am, or na gift, or inheritance, or whatever it always has a constant "used market value"
So if dey dash you car, and you need money, you no go sell am, you go dash am out as well?
Dey play. grin

You forgot to factor in depreciation
Bruh,
"He could have gotten the car for $5000 in 2019
And then decide to sell it after 4 years of use at a reduced price of $3000 in 2023."

Value of $5000 in 2019
Value of $3000 in 2023

If you really do not understand what "depreciation" means in the first place, I don't think I would want to engage further.

There are lots of tourist and travel agencies that specialize in that (Nigerias wishing to spend holidays in other African countries)
Though I don't think I have seen any for 2 weeks stay.
The last one I saw was about 350k for a weekend or so, transport and feeding inlcuded.
It is so because y'all will be group, like a group adventure of some sort with different activities

Thanks so much i appreciate.
Yes it sound clunk some times, i can hear it. But at times when i start the engine and leave it to warm for sime time to normal temperature, when i engage gear it wiĺl be silent but will still kick but not aggressive.

Secondly the last time i change the gear oil was 2yrs ago, i hope this will not have effect on the gear performance
Maybe, if not gauged properly(too low or high), or if incorrect fluid type is used in the gear, It’ll affect gear shifting.
But for this your issue, It’s normal with old Hondas and some people never find out what’s the cause, as long as the car runs fine and doesn’t delay when changing gears in motion, and your dashboard “D” is not blinking, it’s okay.
Just start using your hand brake, it reduces it.
For the gear oil you don’t really look at years, you use the mileage the last one was done, (20-30k miles interval) you can also check the dipstick; if it’s dark brown it’s due for change, if it’s dark and smells burnt, it’s burnt and needs immediate change.
Healthy gear oil should have a touch of red (could be bright red or dark red).
Then there’s a way to check the gear oil gauge, (start car till fans come on, then turn off car and check or so) make sure it’s between the two holes on the dispstick.
I thought you already done this check at first, that’s why I didn’t suggest it.
If it’s due for a change make sure you use the recommended ATF DW1 fluid
Although the transmissions in the 06/07 are a bit more tolerant, unlike the previous years, it’s still best to stick to Honda ATF.

The insurance company has to buy the car again for the customer from Toyota (that is, if it’s insured from theft).
But I won’t call them a major beneficiary sha, some get slammed with law suit and then some loose credibility(value).
The thief’s are, since they are getting the car almost free and not all stolen cars are being replaced.

Evening experts in the house, my car is Honda accord 07, i noticed that anytime i engage my gear to R and D it kicked hard as if the car want to jump very aggressive. Any advice or help on how to get this solve?
1. Engine or gear mounts; inspect them
If not
2. Service your gear switch (or gear solenoid, there are two of them), just clean with fuel, you can also scan the car to see if they need replacement.
If not
3. Check your CV drive axel/drive shaft
4. Also try to start using your hand brake, before putting your gear in P when parking
However this aggressive jump you’re talking of, does it sound like a clunk(like you can feel and hear the gear engage), or it’s usually silent?

You are not getting the question, a phone of 150k that you use Nigeria currency to buy, and still want to sell for 150k after 2 years
Make una they fear God na, let's forget about the thread
This is greediness fa and using foreign exchange to justify this is very disturbing
You said earlier “because dollar is rising?“
Bruh, dollar is not rising anywhere, it is where it is
It’s your currency that’s loosing value, it’s as simple as that.
150k last 2 years not 150k now bro
Abi is your landlord collecting same rent he collected 2 years ago?
Your landlord dey use dollar for anything?
Sugar coat it how you want.
I don see why that guy talk say business go hard for some people grin
No be lie.

After reading your comment below, if you did read and and try to understand all I wrote in my previous post,
you’ll understand why it seems like it’s “maintaining its value”, but in reality it’s not. The rate at which your currency is being devalued is matching the rate at which the phone is depreciating thereby making it seem stagnant.

Since the start of this argument no one has come with a tangible reason why someone should sell an item below it’s “used market value” (aside’s clearance sale).
Just empty emotional talks, bruh if you want to lowball, lowball, no one will beat you. grin

In conclusion, I don’t think you’re reading to understand at this point, and I feel like engaging would be a waste of time.
I literally explained how and why it feels like it’s “maintaining value” even after 2 years in previous posts, but you still asked same question again below, making me believe you have hard time assimilating information or maybe slow of some sort
You guys asked why
I answered why “it is so”
But you’re still coming around to ask why
Bruh, If you have a hard time understanding or comprehending everything I have been saying so far, I’m sorry, as there’s not much I can do again.
I understand not everyone went to school, and that’s fine, trust me.
At least some people understand now, and I’m okay with that.
I can't Educate everyone Bruh.

However, for anyone else interested in asking any more questions, i will like you to answer this. ; “has the Nigerian currency lost its value over the years?” if no, state your reasons why it has not, let’s discuss like adults. if yes, then there’s nothing to argue again.
It's as simple as that
Thank you

iamoyindamola:

Simple question
Phone you got for 150 last 2 years after using till date will you still sell for 150k because dollar is rising?
Let’s say the value placed on the Nigerian used phone is 150k. (Used market value)
Wether you use your phone for 10 years or just one 1 year, there'll always be a "standard used market value" which tends to fluctuate.
If I had the 150k phone, and apparently I needed money asap, I would definitely come here to clearance thread to sell it below the market value maybe at 140k and someone will rush it and thank me later because he has been trying to get the phone at a good price. That’s the whole point of clearance sale “to sell below the current value”
If the current “used market value” is 120k, I’m not dumb enough to sell for 140k, no one will even buy.
Instead I’ll sell for 110k.
The “used market value” determines the price it’s going to be sold at, could be higher or lower.
If someone decides to sell that same phone for 150k, I won’t come online and be calling the person a greedy fellow because he chose to sell at the current value of 150k, I’ll just notify them that it’s not acceptable on this thread because we are all looking for items that are below current value here.
However if the person sells for 160k which is above the current value, then you can say he’s greedy.
And like I made mention of earlier, my initial argument was not in relation with the thread.
That’s why most keep spamming on here without making sales cause it’s over valued, then they’ll start using their hand to bring the price down to a reasonable value.
No sane Nigerian would buy something that’s over priced.
And this “ because dollar is rising” you’re mentioning, like I said Before, dollar is not rising, it’s not going anywhere, it’s your currency that’s loosing value.
Thank you

Use the same analogy for a phone let's check something.
Alright
Like I stated previously, as long as Nigerians see car as an achievement, it will always hold value.
An average Nigerian can get a phone, but can’t get a car.
So phones tend to depreciate faster.
In a standard economy phones are supposed to get cheaper as it gets older, but sadly that’s not the case.
Foreign used iPhone XR was about 130k last year
This year it’s above 170k.
But if the economy were normal, the foreign used xr should be about 100k today.
So In reality the phones are getting cheaper but your naira is loosing value.
Phone I got for 150k 2 years ago is still 150k now
Bruh, that’s not normal

I believe you made payment to his account for the waybill, you can search the account holder name on social media.
You can get the account holder name from your bank statement or bank app.
You can also try to go to the gigs location you were to pick up from, and give then the date you were meant to pick up, they will have logs of the items that came I. That day, just give them the location it was sent from.

Most of them use that kind of warped thinking to do business and they always fail.

Omo, I don explain tire boss
Saying someone is "greedy" just because he's trying to get current market value (worth) for an item he bought is mind boggling grin.
If he were over valuing it, yes, that's being greedy, and it'll likely not get sold, but if its selling for around current market value you can't label him greedy.
Also if the item has lost it value, it will definitely be sold cheaper, it goes both ways. Basic economics that happens everywhere, e reach your turn you say “Nigerians Greedy” like say you don explore the other countries come back grin.
You buy gold/diamond necklace, you use for 5 years "it appreciates".
You need cash and decide to go back to the store to sell it, will you sell to them at the same price you got it 5 years ago because you're not greedy grin?
It’s not greed, it’s economics.
Likewise the value of the same car has appreciated and you don’t want him to sell for its value undecided?
Nah, y’all be the greedy ones grin
zeestone99:

Imagine it this way.
You bought a 2005 Camry for 2m Thinking you will use for 1yr or 2 and add maybe 1.5m to buy Camry 2009 that's valued 3m to 3.5m.
After 2yrs dollar increased and you are ready to upgrade but the value of the 09 Camry is now 5m. You think you will sell 1.5m and add 3.5m to buy your Camry 09? Not possible .
Using his illustration " he wants people to sell the car they got for 2 million in 2019, for that same 2 million in 2023, but little does he know;
If the guy that bought the same car for 2million naira in 2019 had the same thought process,he wouldn't have gotten it, because he'll be expecting people that got the car for 900k in 2015, to sell for 900k in 2019.
He also mentioned something " he said if he goes to buy car and ask for the original receipt of the car and he'll be 100% sure it'll be like 2 million while the dealer would be asking for like 3 million" but little does he know original receipt can never be in Naira (eBay, copart, auctionexport, marketplace etc) all in dollars.
Now if the dealer asked to you to bring half of the initial purchase amount which is in dollars, you'll spend more naira sourcing for the dollars.
The whole argument is baseless and doesn't hold water.
Like that guy said, just pure emotions, no logic or form of economic reasoning.
Emotionally blackmailing someone because he knows the worth of what he's selling is not the way to go.
No one owes you nothing, bitter truth.
If the item is above your budget, get the one below your budget instead of expecting handouts.

NOTE: The points I made were not in relation to the thread, it was this statement "anyone that buys a car for 2 million for 2019 and sells for 2 million in 2023 is greedy" that made me chip in and explain how it works and why it's so.
Not in support of anything.
However, I believe If you are posting your item for sale on the clearance thread it should definitely be below the current market value.

I understand your point, which are valid..

But believe me, I'm not trying to talk like a pastor, i can't sell a car that I bought for 3million after 5years of usage above the half price....

My current 2008 Honda civic was bought tokunboh from my friend in US, everything including the clearing in 2019 was almost 2m including all the things I did on it...

If I want to sell you can never see me sell above new market price, because since 2019 to 2023 is like 4years plus, I've used it so well...

No that I can't do that, but my conscience won't allow me....

One of the aim of people disposing their cars is just to add money and buy another one or for jakpa or for something else..

Majority of us don't want to sweat before we get money, if I want to sell my car, the purpose would be sell my old one and add money to buy another one, but some want to sell old one and use the over priced car money to buy another one...

We Nigerians always use every opportunity to do something bad, not everything is about government...
Hmmm
True talk sha
It's the dealers that are messing the whole thing up sha.
They'll buy cheap from people and then sell at an increased price.
Most of those people selling 3m are dealers. Not people that used them personally.

If the value of the corolla depreciated from $5000 to $3000 from 2019 to 2023, it'll still be much more expensive because your Nigerian naira depreciates even faster.
Car that was 900k in 2015, 1.5m in 2019, now almost 3m in 2023.

Oga you don't know what you are saying, no offence.

A foreign used car that was bought for 2million 4years shouldn't be sold at same price after 4years usage, that greediness...

Majority of the so called cars sellers are just greedy, I know most of them don't know jack about cars, they are just doing it just because there's no job out there, at least it is legit, but being greedy is what is bad...

Same thing applied on this clearance sale, you people selling what they can't use their money to buy at inflated price...

Very very greedy people everywhere
grin I get your point boss
But the white man does not need your Nigerian naira, the Toyota wasn’t initially bought with naira because the Toyota was not made in Nigeria hence has it has a $ value attached to it.
It was bought with dollar initially and shipped here oga.
He’s selling for a lower $ value, but it doesn’t seem so, cause your Naira has lost value.
If everyone was selling at the naira price they got it for, you would have gotten a car since na, and won’t come here to complain.
Or you think people are crazy buying a used car that sold for 1.5m then for 3m now?
If care is not taken it’ll keep increasing.
Even the car you're asking to buy 1.7 million now was being sold for 900k before.
As for household items that have been used, yes
Those ones are greedy normal, but for cars, quite different,
Since most Nigerians see cars as an achievement, it’ll always hold value.
But I must admit the greedy ones are the one adding customs value to a Nigerian used car, they increase price because price of clearing has increased.

If only more people could channel this frustration to the government, we won’t be complaining about this.

2. It does burn, but not as much as conventional oil as stated, as it requires a higher temperature to do so. Same time if your engine burns synthetic oil, it needs proper work.
Even during oil change after 5k miles, it'll still have that clear oil color, I think I'll start changing it after 10k miles sef.
No be by who told me, I did switch personally from regular to synthetic, and I'm telling you what I observed, you can also do research on it.
The only con is if you're using it on a high mileage engine, and you haven't changed the factory crankshaft seal which is now worn out, it can seep through causing minimal leak, because it is thinner than regular oil at normal temps.
The guy later used 5w 30 semi synthetic which is a synthetic blend oil which is closer to synthetic oil than that oil the other guy was recommending.
And if you did notice, he replied 5w 30 semi synthetic oil is "also good", implying that the 20w 50 mineral oil is good as well but
5w 30 semi synthetic and 20w 50 mineral oil cannot be both good for the same engine as they are way different.
