chatterly:

A lot of the Igbo warriors on Nairaland cease to amaze me.
Most of them have not bought land not to talk of build house in lagos and here you are jeopardizing those who have. I wonder how many times tha Arabs and the russians brag that they own a large chunk of the land in Central London. Fact is the Land in a state is vested in the governor and he can revoke any c of o he wishes to without much ado.Let us stop all these things that would provoke Ibo bashing. How many Yorubas or Hausas have come to Ibo land saying they want to take over?let us not in our ignorance cause problems we cannot solve. Most of us are sitting in front of our computers in d uk etal. When landlords are refusing to let houses to Ibos because of these sentiments u are not there.A word is enough for the wise

@bolded;

1. Nobody is jeopardizing anybody, its only in your own imaginations.
2. have those arabs and russians ceased from owning their properties?
3. tell us how many igbos that told you they want to take over.

You ve not said anything different from what your fellow e-warriors here have already said.

Again the fact that u think that those traders who own businesses and properties in lagos contribute only 20%?
Politics / Re: Lagos Ohanaeze Lists Conditions For Fashola’s Endorsement by onyengbu1(m): 7:34am On Mar 04, 2011
@Pstylish,
the fact that you dont know and cannot think of any bigger and more accurate sitting arrangement anywhere else in the country makes reasoning with you la complete waste of time.

Now you have again imagined that the biggest igbo population can get in a local government is about winner's 50k auditorium.
Guy think like an enterprenuer you are supposed to be. Now according to you, abt 80% igbo population are spare parts dealers. What makes u think that even half of ur 80% traders goes to church every sunday?
How could a CEO like u also estimate dat 80% of igbos are traders forgetting that school children outnumber adults in naija population figures. Maybe u know better as an CEO and those traders are all unmarried without kids.
Or perhaps d remaining 20% are children thereby promptly removing chances of having any igbos like d ones u worked with and bankers, lawyers, doctors, CEOs, and even those church owners u met d day u registered ur company.
WOW!
Man, no offence but ur sense of estimation calls for serious questions as to why u r in d line of work u r in. Even my manager will get fired immediately for estimating d way u did.
Politics / Re: Lagos Ohanaeze Lists Conditions For Fashola’s Endorsement by onyengbu1(m): 12:05am On Mar 04, 2011
Again, what makes u quantify igbo population with population of church goers?
Im lost, wat made you think igbo should be just about that number plus your extra 1million gift.
Abeg humour me.
Politics / Re: Lagos Ohanaeze Lists Conditions For Fashola’s Endorsement by onyengbu1(m): 11:56pm On Mar 03, 2011
@pstylish,
you are so wrong. How can u judge the igbo and job situation by just an experience in your former workplace. Dont you know there are thousands of other workplaces in lagos. Then also have you serviced every company to conclude they are predominantly yoruba owned. Your CAC registration experience too is rather funny because u were there just for one out of over 200 days the office open in a year.

Now, your trying to make every one understand how crowd perception works is utter nonsense. What makes you think you are the only person that understands it. Apart from faith tabernacle, arent there other places we already know in naija that their sitting capacity exceeds 50,000? Why then are u calculating human population based on how u believe a church congregation are seated.

Please bring up better points when next you want to feel good about your tribe.

I am sorry to dissapoint you.
You can go on with your ranting though, its free on nairaland. Isn it?
Politics / Re: Lagos Ohanaeze Lists Conditions For Fashola’s Endorsement by onyengbu1(m): 6:38pm On Mar 03, 2011
Eko ile & co,
My line on this thread is never about which tribe is better or stronger or fights better.
I cannot indulge anyone of you in that childish arguments.

My points are:
Lagos has come to be a home to all Nigerians.
Anyone of you that is worried that igbo people are planning to take it from you is just being stupid and unnecesarily afraid.
Civilization comes with a lot of cultural downsides and visitors growing roots in 'your land' is one of them.
Threats of violence are childish because it will not happen because internet warriors wish it.

At the end, even in the event of your 'aboki treatment', every side will suffer and your visitors will still return and claim their possesions again. So the question is, is it worth it?

You guys should just grow up abeg.

Who has stopped any person born in Lagos from contesting for any political office? Can you give us instances? No group has the power, majority or indigenous, to stop anybody from contesting political office even if that person wasn't born in Lagos. The law is pretty clear. What the law wouldn't tell you or any person for that matter is that there are political dynamics that will stop a non-indigene from winning even if he contests. The law while giving you the right to be voted for also gave those voters the right to vote for anyone they want. It also gave those that constitute these voters the assurance that they are not breaking the law if they choose not to vote for someone they deem as not part of them. Anyway, that same law did not implore us to just standby and give our total support to one Mr Eze, who feels he and his kinsmen have contributed more than anyone else and also outnumber the other groups in the state, to run for Governor. Mr Eze should feel very confident of his chances even with Yoruba antagonism since they are the majority, abi? There are more than 20 political parties if I'm not mistaken, if you feel so strongly about it, you or any of your kinsmen should pick up the ticket and contest.

You cant stand on one ground, can you?

You don't even have to sow anything when the land is ancestrally yours.

What about ancestrally land of the ogonis and ijaws which no one is planning to leave for them.

Are we not all reaping from a land that is ancestrally theirs why now is lagos different.
EzeUche_:

And the land has been bought by outsiders. If you sell your ancestral land, you have no right to claim it. That is why you all should have kept the land instead of selling it for money. This is the way the world works. Once you sell something, you cannot have it back.

Are you even from Lagos? I mean are your ancestors from Lagos. Just because you are a Yoruba does not mean you have an ancestral claim to the land.

That is a good one. So can a yoruba person from Togo or Benin also come and claim Lagos is our Land?

I've noticed that throughout the course of this 'argument', you've been attributing statements to people, statements they didn't make. You can go through all my posts on this topic thus far. Not for once have I threatened violence so I do not know what you are talking about. You seem more willing to drag this issue while in the same post you quoted I said we could just stop the argument and wait till the elections are over. Then we can, in case you already do not know, identify those who have made empty threats.

The threats are all over the place. So what do I care. If you cant see em thats ur own cup of zobo.

Guy I have ibo friends as well in Lagos and I would not wish anything to happen to them or their families just because of Ohaneze. That said, I believe ibos in lagos are smarter than that not ohaneze.
Also there is one thing i can comfirm to you, If ibos push their luck there will be riots in which I MYSELF WILL BE PART OF IT REGRADLESS OF MY IBO FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS, just to show you how bad it is.

I hope it does not get to that stage, I strongly believe we can all live in peace whether yoruba, ibo, hausa etc. But if pushed, there will be riots and both parties whether ibo or yoruba will lose a lot.

As some of you ibos say " lagos is a no-mans-land" well we aworis say " ta ni baba e ni eko, odee eko, o mo eyo" meaning " who is your father in lagos, if you have not been to lagos, you do not know eyo festival". I guess that speaks volume on the cultural aspect of lagos cheesy cheesy

How then can you open your violent mouth and call them your friends if you can turn back and kill them because of a riot. Thats unimaginable!
revomind:

You are right. The ones we see everyday do not even dream of it, at least yet. However before you rule yourself out and claim disinterest, I'm pretty sure you must make some evaluations. Its overwhelming-the reasons they are not interested. So interest or no interest, the figures given are false.

One thing I've learned about Igbos from this forum is that while they are generally okay people who just want to live and let live while doing their business and contributing one way or the other to their host communities, there are, over the course of history, usually a few ones who are over-exuberant and secretly hope and dream of dominating others. Mazi Uche, the Lagos Ohananeze(to a lesser extent though) and some contributors to this forum are examples of that few. They go about this using  lies, exaggerations and propaganda. This irritates and irks.

Of all Nigerian cities, Lagos is the one town you'd asssume Igbos would have evolved to love and cherish. Seriously. Many of us are disappointed that some of them have now for whatever reasons resorted to deliberately skewing figures and lying generally. We are disappointed that they now claim our culture is zero, our Obas are insignificant and that only the Lagoon can be regarded as 'indigene' in Lagos. Lagos is the one town that constantly served as a reminder that general relations between the Yoruba and Igbo could improve along with other groups with significant populations in Lagos.

We hope that the real ones among the Igbo Lagosians, the majority who have been an absolute delight to have around, call these ones to order. The status quo has not been designed to dominate anyone. We all live peacefully with each other in Lagos.

See your reasoning; you have come to learn about igbos from NL?!

Again, Whatever you think about igbo people, igbo people think about you too.
I believe igbo people doesnt  gives a flying squirrel that you think there are  'usually a few ones who are over-exuberant and secretly hope and dream of dominating others'

Well no one is threatened. Mazi Uche and Ohanaeze didn't just come out to demand to 'stay'. They really wouldn't need to that actually. They have come with deliberate mischief and we are all amused. Of course, so many Igbos on the streets of Lagos do not even identify with these guys. All what some of us have tried to do is to 'clear the doubt' of some of your brothers on this forum who have been misguided and sent into ecstasy by their statements. If we cannot succeed in doing that, its best we leave you all to your daydreams and when you guys wake up, we'd love to assess the patterns of the elections in Lagos with you all.

Stop clearing doubts by making empty threats as if ordinary yoruba or igbo person on the street gives a damn what you guys here on NL thinks.

They can only smiling and beat their chest as Mr do good in another mans Land whereas in their own land kidnapping, ritualism, tribalism is deeply rooted they cant beat their chest about the solution but they are given condition to Fashola I think if Fashola listen to them then he is coward. This so called  Ohanazie which my own dad belong to did not give condition on how to tackles the menace that befall the east as the most dangerous region in Nigeria all they are crying for is fed Govt is not doing enough as if other part of the country get special attention from fed Govt.

I ask and I will ask again who do we think we are(Igbo)? I will not stop stop attacking any nonsense thread in NL until my people learn how to love, mind their business, stop invading other people land while WE can not allow such in our own land, stop tribalism, stop be a hater, stop be a name callers, stop living in the shadow of the past, stop history telling, show love and respect to other tribes as they show us love, stop ego and pride, I wont stop and I will not apologise for whatever I say, I am sick and sick of all these nonsense Ohanazie give condition what condition in their fathers land or what? This annoys me too much can an Hausa group give Orji a condition or can  Yoruba group give Chime a condition? Rubbish and nonsense!!!!shamelessness>Pls call me any name you like fine but stop invading people land as we can not allow it on our land stop interefering to what does not belong to Igbo, Lagos is not Igbo matter they did not force us or send invitation for us to come to their land lets mind our business for God sake

You stated that I, along with others wish for Yorubas to attack Igbos. Where in my post did I state that I wished for anyone to be attacked? We are simply discussing what may happen if an event were to occur. It's not the same thing, I expect you to be able to make a simple distinction. Please prove me wrong by highlighting where I wished for it to happen.

Sometimes, debating on NL is akin to one banging one's head against a wall.
If we have disagreed on another thread previously, there is no need to carry it around. Its pretty obvious from your first response to my post.

It is there in your posts theres no need to start sympathy cries, when you have been the one telling me that yorubas are not hausas and what happens if your people start attacking igbos and how igbos will be more negatively impacted when it happens.

Its all wishes that will not happen the way you ve been putting it and theres no need to start seeking for sympathy.

There is no need to personalise the debate; it removes from what ever point you are trying to make. Why do people feel the need to personlise an argument? Is it to stop the other person from having a point of view? If you want people that will agree with your point of view, I suggest you set-up a forum with others of like mind.

I have not taken a hostile or condescending attitude with you; please don't take it with me.

Now you are trying to bolt or seek for unnecessary sympathy.

Please point out how I got personal and where I was condescending.

Are you all worked up because I kept pointing out that your wishes (which you put up here on your own) is uncalled for and cannot materialize? This is not the kind of attitude I expected from you.

Katsumoto:

1. So there are Nigerian-born MPs in the UK because the Nigerians in the UK demanded for it? The key point here is the demand by a group.

2. No one suggested the entire Igbo population requested this but a few can spoil it for others if left unchecked. Like I said, if they have the numbers, they should use it and stop the subtle blackmail.

3. You miss the point here; Yoruba people are not Hausa people. Granted that there will be losses on both sides but the livelihood of the visitors will be more negatively impacted. At the end of the day, they will not have the political representation they requested plus their livelihood could be affected

4. No need to be uncouth; just state your case

5. So they need political office to be able to provide development? They are tax-payers and can make representation to the governor on such issues. Having 10 commissioners will not even make a difference if the governor is not interested

6. It is not worth it and should be avoided but the visitors have more to lose. You can't carry your landed property on your head if Kasala burst.

7. The Igbos that want political office in Lagos or any other place cannot effect positive change from a foreign place. That is the argument that is usually directed at Africans in diaspora. You can't be in the US and be demanding of others to make home habitable for you so that you can decide to go home when its sweet. Lagos, like other places in Nigeria still needs positive intellectual capital but the other places need it more than Lagos.

No one is feeling sorry for himself or even having sleepless nights. At the end of the day; this is just an internet discussion about an event that is yet to occur.

1. So your problem lies on the fact that it is demanded and longer because they are visitors who should know that 'Lagos is rich in history and there is very little Igbo pedigree in that history.'

2.Few cannot spoil anything for anybody, ok. For example, do you think all yorubas will start attacking igbos simply because yourself, eko ile, eku bear and others hear on NL wish it happens. HELL NO!

3. Where the difference lies bw hausas and yorubas on that aspect and then how do you arrive at the conclusion that 'visitors' will be impacted more negatively.  Have you forgotten that most of those visitors have houses and shops in the east as well as lagos. The landowners on the other hand will have everything destroyed with no hope of another one.

4. I gave you simple directive, check my item2 above! grin

5. You still miss the question, why do you think igbos are looking for other things than the one you mentioned before.

6. Like before check my item 3 above.

7. There are more than enough igbo people in igbo land taking care of igboland, igbo lagosians are not the people needed to effect any change.

Yea it is an internet discussion and it is really giving people like you, eko ile and eku bear sleepless night.
