ABSTRACT

Time Cost Trade Off (TCTO) is a process to identify suitable project activities for speeding up and deciding by how much so as to attain the best possible saving in both time and cost for that project . The objective of TCTO is to reduce the original project duration, determined from the critical path, to meet a specific deadline with the least cost . Performing this computation in the past was prone to error, became complex as well as tedious when the size of data was increased and also of technical knowhow of individuals was a problem. This analysis involves the computation of the TCTO model using the Simple Critical Path Method TCTO Algorithm which in the past was done manually. In this work, time and the resource used resulting to the overall cost of the project are considered and the different cost involved in a project . The aim of this work is to automate TCTO analysis by building a system which will help project managers and individuals alike to perform this computation easier and accurately with little or no knowledge of the model in other to save time using Python Programming Language implemented as a desktop software.

An online bookstore is an e-commerce website for selling books online. The project “design and implementation of an online bookstore” aims at providing a platform that allows a customer to search and purchase a book online based on the book’s title, author and subject. Among its functionalities include catalog management, customer accounts, inventory management, order management, product configurator and shopping cart .It provides the user with a catalog of different books available for purchase in the store categorized under the departments of Biochemistry, Engineering, Medicine, Mathematics, Pharmacy and Computer science. Through a web browser a customers can search for a book by its title or author, add to the shopping cart and finally purchase using credit card transaction or other card transactions like Master card, Visa card or Verve cards. The system is implemented using a backend database, and a web browser as the front end to the client. Making use of the following tools: Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) programming language, XAMPP ((X)cross platform, Apache, MariaDB, PHP and PERL) server, MySQL database management system and PHP CURL, a user friendly, flexible and reliable website for online book sales was developed.

1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDY

With the development and improvement of computer science, internet technology and database technology are now used widely. Many people choose to shop online instead of walking down to the traditional bookshop. The enterprise IT departments have recognized advantages to the internet. E-commerce functionality is more and more powerful. Peoplefreely shop at home so easily. Nowadays, the bookstore websites are often used as medium for selling and purchasing books online. Registered customer can search for all the books they want to buy. Online bookshop is an online web application where a customer can purchase books online through a web browser. The main aim of this project is to create a website where a customer can visit and buy books online and have it delivered to his or her doorsteps. The customers can search for a book by its title, author r ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and later can add to the shopping cart and finally purchase using credit card transaction. The card transaction can be either by visa card, verve card or credit card. The administrator will have additional functionalities to the system than a common user. Buying and selling of books online is an act considered as Electronic commerce. (Dayle, 2001).

1.2 PROBLEM DEFINITION

There are many online businesses on the internet. People have many choices to buy products through the internet. These products include household equipment, electronics, clothing books and many more. Now a day's people are so busy that they have no time to go to shopping malls and buy the things they want. This was the problem primarily intended for online shopping to solve. That's why importance of online shopping is increasing with the passage of time and one cannot deny this fact. Online shops gives you lot of discounts that you may not find by shopping at the physical stores. Moreover many online shops not only give you huge discounts on different products but at the same time they provide free shipping. Online shopping not only save your time but it saves lots of your money by not going to visit each shop and spend money on gas and patrol. The issue of wasting time and petrol and not seeing that project you wish to purchase is another problem intended to be tackled by inventing online shopping. Online shopping gives you benefit of comparing same products at different online shops at the same time which you can't do in a physical store. So you cannot only compare the quality of products but also their prices as well. You can order anything from the wh*** world and it will be delivered at your home. There are more than 90% chances that you will find your desired product whether you shop from auction online websites like eBay or a specialty store. When you go to any department store for shopping, you cannot know about customer feedback about any product but with online shopping you can read customer feedback about any product. Customer feedback can help you to buy a product with more ease.

1.3 AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF STUDY
1.3.1 AIM OF STUDY

The sole aim of this study “design and Implementation of an online bookshop” is to create a website “Madonnastore” where an individual can visit and buy books via a web browser.

1.3.2 OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

The objectives of the study are as follows:
1. To save time and energy of going to the physical bookshop to buy books.
2. To save money as extra money supposed to be used to get to the physical bookshop is saved
3. To enlighten individuals about electronic commerce.

1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

The significance of this study is to enlighten people about online shopping especially on books and also help get information of customer buy behavior through online shopping. This project will help individuals get their desired books easily for they need not go far to get them but only search the internet.

1.5 SCOPE OF STUDY

This project will be focusing on customer registration and login, book browsing or search from catalog, shopping cart management, order placement and shipping of product. Online payment, E-mail marketing, multi-store management, promotion management and multi-channel will not be covered in the course of study.

1.6 LIMITATION OF STUDY

In the course of carrying out this project, there existed some constraints that could limit the performance and completion of the work. These constraints include inaccessibility to the internet to get certain information, making the right decision on which tools and methodology to be used. Insufficient finance and sickness are among the limitations affecting thisproject study. However, high cost of merchant account registration for payment gateway integration and also inexperience in data encryption so as to data security are included in the constraints affecting the project.

1.7 GLOSSARY

Online: This means being connected to other computers through the internet or available through the internet
Bookshop: A bookshop is a shop or store that sells books.
Internet: Internet stands for International network. It is a network that allows millions of computers around the world to exchange information
Electronic commerce (e-commerce): This is the activity of buying and selling goods and services using a computer and the internet.
Server: A server is the main computer on a network that provides special services and controls the other computers
Buy behavior: This is a process by which individuals search for, select, purchase, use and dispose of goods and services in satisfaction of their needs and wants.

1.8 ORGANISATION OF CHAPTERS

This work is organized in six chapters where chapter one introduces the topic which gives an insight analysis of the study, followed by the objectives of the topic, significance of the topic, the limitation and scope of the study. This chapter concludes with the organization of work. Chapter two discusses the review of literature of the topic, by different individuals and authors. In chapter three, the methodology used in carrying out the project, the hardware, software, functional and non- functional requirement s of the proposed work are discussed. Chapter four of this work shows the different flowchart, sequence chart, program diagram and screenshots of the processes involved in the system. While chapter five discusses the implementation and doc**entation of the developed system, chapter six summarizes the work and discusses the lessons learnt and the various problems encountered during the course of the project.

ABSTRACT
The Unicode Standard is the universal character encoding scheme for writing characters and text. It defines a consistent way of encoding multilingual text that enables the exchange of text data internationally and creates the foundation for global software. The main objective of this research is that Unicode is a computing industry standard for the consistent encoding, representation, and handling of text expressed in most of the world's writing systems and also for the classical forms of many languages which the unified Han subset contains 27,484 ideographic characters defined by national and industry standards of China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore. Unicode Standard goes far beyond ASCII's limited ability to encode only the upper and lowercase letters A through Z but Unicode have the capacity to encode all characters used for the written languages of the world and close more than 1 million characters can be encoded therefore making those in the listed countries stated above to make use of their different letter symbols to communicate with each other. Unicode standard provide basis of software that must function all around the world.

INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The Unicode Standard is the universal character encoding scheme for written characters and text. It defines a consistent way of encoding multilingual text that enables the exchange of text data internationally and creates the foundation for global software. As the default encoding of HTML and XML, the Unicode Standard provides a sound underpinning for the World Wide Web and new methods of business in a networked world. Required in new Internet protocols and implemented in all modern operating systems and computer languages such as Java, Unicode is the basis of software that must function all around the world.

With Unicode, the information technology industry gains data stability instead of proliferating character sets; greater global interoperability and data interchange; and simplified software and reduced development costs.

While modeled on the ASCII character set, the Unicode Standard goes far beyond ASCII's limited ability to encode only the upper- and lowercase letters A through Z. It provides the capacity to encode all characters used for the written languages of the world--more than 1 million characters can be encoded. No escape sequence or control code is required to specify any character in any language. The Unicode character encoding treats alphabetic characters, ideographic characters, and symbols equivalently, which means they can be used in any mixture and with equal facility
The Unicode Standard specifies a numeric value and a name for each of its characters. In this respect, it is similar to other character encoding standards from ASCII onward. In addition to character codes and names, other information is crucial to ensure legible text: a character's case, directionality, and alphabetic properties must be well defined. The Unicode Standard defines this and other semantic information, and includes application data such as case mapping tables and mappings to the repertoires of international, national, and industry character sets. The Unicode Consortium provides this additional information to ensure consistency in the implementation and interchange of Unicode data.

Unicode provides for two encoding forms: a default 16-bit form and a byte-oriented form called UTF-8 that has been designed for ease of use with existing ASCII-based systems. The Unicode Standard, Version 3.0, is code-for-code identical with International Standard ISO/IEC 10646. Any implementation that is conformant to Unicode is therefore conformant to ISO/IEC 10646.

Using a 16-bit encoding means that code values are available for more than 65,000 characters. While this number is sufficient for coding the characters used in the major languages of the world, the Unicode Standard and ISO/IEC 10646 provide the UTF-16 extension mechanism (called surrogates in the Unicode Standard), which allows for the encoding of as many as 1 million additional characters without any use of escape codes. This capacity is sufficient for all known character encoding Unicode covers all the characters for all the writing systems of the world, modern and ancient. It also includes technical symbols, punctuations, and many other characters used in writing text.

Lately, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has finally released the list of some courses that have not been accredited in some Nigeria university. National Universities Commission (NUC) also said that any certificate issued for those courses will be considered void and also, National Universities Commission (NUC) confirmed that the university of Abuja has the highest number of unaccredited courses which is clearly shown in the list below.

Further more the unaccredited courses pose a severe danger to students who study them as the certificates issued by these universities for the courses will not be officially recognized, hmm! this is totally unbelievable. From the reports of Premium Times, it says that the 2016 accreditation status report indicated that these unaccredited courses were taught in 37 out of 143 universities in the country (Nigeria).

However, National Universities Commission (NUC) insists that for a course to be accredited, it must meet the Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) that has been stipulated and verified by the commission.
Some of the requirements of Benchmark Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) basically include:
>>> Qualified faculty members.
>>> Good learning environment and adequate teaching materials equipment, books and journals.
National Universities Commission (NUC) still made the general public to know that, accreditation is very necessary to ensure employers and other members of the community that Nigerian graduates of all academic programmes have attained an acceptable level of competency in their areas of specialization or field of study.
National Universities Commission (NUC) also says it is also important to certify courses to assure “the international community that the programmes offered in Nigerian Universities are of a very high standards and that graduates of the institutions are very adequate for employment and further studies if they wish.”
According to the National Universities Commission (NUC), the pre-accreditation process include:-
>>> Drawing up a list of academic programmes to be certified.
>>> Compilation of list of panel chairmen/members,
>>> Time-tabling.
>>> Budgeting and organizing the accreditation coordination meeting for panel chairmen and members in a simulation workshop.

The post-accreditation activities include:-
>>> Analyzing accreditation reports (technical and administrative).
>>> Ranking of programmes and universities based on their accreditation status.
>>> Publishing of accreditation status of programmes.
>>> Issuance of certificates to programmes that earned Full and Interim accreditation results.
