The Police in Imo State, recently, rounded up the brain behind the death of a 12-year-old girl, Ifunanya Favour Iberi who was declared wanted two months ago by arresting a 34-year-old man identified as Samuel Chukwunyere. Police alleged that the suspect was responsible for raping the teenager to death and dumping her lifeless body in a deep well. The missing little Ifunanya was last seen by members of her family on Sunday, October 13, 2013, when she could not return to their house after her day’s routine activities. Apparently worried by the scaring development, her parents immediately alerted the Imo State Police Command. Their passionate appeal to the Commissioner of Police, Katsina was very simple. “You must please, assist us find our missing daughter.” Search for suspects Seeing the depth of grief boldly written on the faces of Ifunanya’s parents, the Imo State police boss assured them of his determination to get to the root of the matter. Katsina mobilized his men and went after the fleeing criminal. Not long after, a 34-year old artisan from Amaenyi, Nkwerre, Chukwunyere, who lives at Umulolo village, where the missing girl hailed from, was apprehended. This man quickly fled the community when he noticed that he was being linked with the sudden disappearance of little Ifunanya. The suspect was rounded up few days ago by the police when he quietly returned to the village. Confession of suspect In an interview with Crime Alert, the suspect confessed that he actually lured the innocent victim to his house and raped her to death. He also disclosed that he lured the girl to his place because he told her that he bought her a phone, adding as soon as they got to his house and on noticing that the place was lonely, he quickly grabbed the young girl. His words: “I forced her. I tried to use her through her private part but my own thing could not enter. I now turned her and she started shouting. I now held her well, well. I don’t want anybody to hear her voice. I now started using her through her anus. In the process of using her through the anus, she now shouted and I now held her back again, using her. In the process of using her, she now gave up.” The suspect also explained how he dumped the remains of his young victim inside a deep pit near his residence to avoid being traced by anybody. “I now asked myself how will I manage to hide the corpse of this girl. I now rock my brain and rock my brain and the shovel that I have there cannot dig the ground. This ground sef na stone ground. I cannot dig it alone. I now searched around my place here and I saw that pit there (pointing to the location of the pit) and I now say let me come and put her inside that pit, so that the place will be enough to hide it. Nobody will know. I now rolled her with some cloths. After12 to one o’clockin the midnight, I now brought her to this place and now throw her inside the pit.” He also confessed that this was not his first rape case, especially as Crime Alert gathered that several girls in the area had previously fallen victim to his nefarious act. The State Police boss later took Crime Alert to the scene of crime where the skull of the little girl which was already severed from her body and other decomposing parts believed to be her remains were lifted from the pit, which contained greenish water. Police boss speaks Speaking to Crime Alert at the scene of the crime, the State Police boss explained that after committing the alleged sordid crime, the suspect threw the lifeless body of the young girl into a nearby well and vowed to bring him to book. “His arrest and subsequent interrogation encouraged detectives to move to this place where this very horrendous spectacle was again discovered. It is a clear case of sunset at dawn. She may have gone but her soul is seriously crying for justice and this is what I will surely do,” Katsina promised. Continuing, the Imo police boss said that apart from this sordid incident, investigations also revealed that “this very suspect is a serial killer, serial rapist and is responsible for the missing and death of many of our young girls, not only in Imo State but in some parts of the country.” While describing the suspect as “an unrepentant killer”, the CP also said that “the man has been involved in many reported cases of ritual-related murders since 2004 till the time he was arrested. Investigations into the matter is on-going to unmask all those behind the dastardly act. I am hoping that pathologists will equally ascertain the real cause of the death of the innocent girl.” How suspect was arrested He recalled that the police had painstakingly been on his trail for about two months since little Ifunanya was reported missing by her parents. Giving a graphic account of how the suspect was eventually apprehended, the CP explained that soon after the girl was reported missing, the suspect quietly escaped to Aba, Abia State. “He later sneaked into Nkwerre when he thought that the search for the missing girl had died down. He was, however, wrong because the Ambush Squad of the Command quickly arrested him on getting wind of his return to base. It is sad to note how people can be very heartless. On noticing that the innocent girl had died in the process of raping her, the suspect carefully but shamelessly threw her remains into a nearby pit.”

Imo Police Command Smash Another Baby Factory Operating As NGO. **16 pregnant teenagers and young ladies were freed. The Imo State Police Command, Monday, smashed another baby-making factory in Egbu, Owerri North area of the state capital, arresting the proprietor, one Dr. James Ezuma who allegedly runs a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) as a cover for the money-spinning baby factory. The police also rescued 16 pregnant girls, including one whose two-hour old baby girl was sold without her knowledge. Leading his Police Ambush Squad to the No. 40 Egbu Road beside Somachi Automobile Market, Owerri, where Dr. Ezuma, a native of Ndiokeke Ndiakunwanta in Arondizuogu, Ideato North LGA of Imo State, operated his NGO, ‘Women and Children Right Initiative’, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammad Katsina, also rescued a three-year-old boy who was also brought to the place alongside his pregnant mother. The 16 pregnant girls were stuffed into two very poorly ventilated rooms that had barred windows while repulsive odour oozed out from the rooms. Speaking with journalists after rescuing the victims, the commissioner of police said, Dr. Ezuma, ”who has been very notorious for gun-running and trafficking of human beings, was eventually apprehended at his residence by the Command Ambush Squad on Tuesday 26th November, 2013 through credible intelligence. According to Katsina, in the course of the arrest, search was conducted in his premises purportedly registered as an office for an NGO, which turned out to be a baby factory, where teenage girls are encouraged to get pregnant and take home the sum of N100,000 at delivery, on the condition that they would abandon their babies who would be eventually used for purposes ranging from child trafficking, illegal adoption to rituals. The police boss disclosed that the suspect had earlier been arraigned before an Owerri Chief Magistrate Court 1 on November 1, 2013, for the offence of conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms. He said the pregnant girls rescued in the premises of Dr. Ezuma were aged between 14 and 19 years old, and that after further search was conducted, an automatic eight-loader pump action gun (which is prohibited) was found in his house. The CP stated that of major concern to his command was the fact that on November 24, 2013, one of the pregnant girls, Nnachi Chinaza from Ebonyi State, gave birth to a baby girl, who was immediately snatched away from her by the said Dr. Ezuma and sold to an unknown person. He said all efforts made by the police to find out the whereabout of the baby proved abortive, as according to him, the said suspect had persistently refused to lead the police to where he kept or sold the baby. While he was not ruling out further investigation, Mr. Katsina said the presumption at the moment is that the said baby might have been used for ritual purposes. He therefore warned the general public to endeavour to keep an eye on their girls so that they would not fall prey to such miscreants like Dr. Ezuma, who parades as well-meaning medical personnel. The police boss commended the state commissioner for women Affairs for revoking the license of orphanage homes in the state and pledged to partner with her because she had started on a good note. Speaking to Journalists, one of the victims whose child was snatched from her, Miss Chinaza Nnachi said she was directed to come to the place by an aunt after her boyfriend denied her pregnancy and abandoned her. She said amidst tears, that though she was given N100,000 after delivery, on the promise that they would train her baby, but she never knew her baby would be sold to unknown persons even without her consent. Also speaking, another victim, 18 year old Blessing Anyaike who came from Lagos, told journalists that she became stranded when she got pregnant, but was directed to the place with the promise that her child would be taken care of. The suspect while speaking to journalists insisted that he was not into child trafficking, and that the child was given out for adoption on the consent of the mothers. Also recovered from Dr. Ezuma include, 10 exotic cars comprising: 2 Jaguar cars; 3 Chrysler vehicles; 2 Lincoln models; 1 Honda jeep; 1 Nissan Quest and 1 Nissan Pathfinder Jeep. - Hope For Nigeria |

A 22-year-old man, Eji Emmanuel, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for the alleged murder of a 39-year-old trader, Sylvanus Okoye. According to the police, the suspect stabbed the deceased to death at his home on Ezemegbu Drive, Okota in August. The suspect, however, explained that he killed the deceased in self-defence. He alleged that on the day of the incident, Okoye had attempted to rape him. Explaining the events that culminated in Okoye’s death, the suspect said he was a dancer and was lured to Lagos by a friend, Chukwudi, under the guise of doing music business only for the friend to introduce him to homosexuality. He said he had gone to report the matter to his friend’s boss but his friend’s boss raped him twice and he reported the matter at the FESTAC Police Division. He said the matter was transferred to the Zone 2 Police Command and the case was turned against him after which he spent two weeks in detention. He said he had approached Okoye, who he considered an Igbo leader in the state, to help him with money to return to Anambra State when Okoye also attempted to rape him. He said, “I went along with a relative to report the matter to Okoye and he gave my friend and I N5,000 and shirts. He told us not to worry, so we slept over at his house. At midnight, however, Okoye came to my room and attempted to have sex with me but I refused him. “My relative later told me that Okoye had sex with him in the parlour that same night. We left in the morning and returned to Anambra State. From there, I went to Abuja where I remained for four months. However, one day, Okoye called me that he had a business deal and invited me to come to Lagos. “I told Okoye that I would not engage in any act of homosexuality and he agreed.” The suspect said when he returned to Lagos, the deceased said he wanted to open a bar in the area and wanted him to manage the business. He said he passed the night at the deceased’s home, but at midnight, the deceased crept into his room and attempted to make love to him. He said, “In the evening, Okoye served me with bread, butter and tea in my room. Around 3.30am, he crept into my room and wanted to sleep with me, but I refused him. “Okoye was a big man so he attempted to overpower me, but I picked up the bread knife that was still left in the room and stabbed him in the neck, but he did not die. “I picked up a flexible iron and bound it round his neck and locked him inside the room. “When it was 6am, I stepped out of the house and gave the key to one woman beside the gate and fled.” |

Ex-Niger Delta militant, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has been arrested in Cotonou, Capital of Benin Republic, his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, said in a statement. “Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, my friend and client, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pm by the country’s gendarmes (Police Force). “He was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to an unknown destination,” Keyamo said. He said Asari-Dokubo carries on legitimate business in the tiny West African country and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now. “In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found,” Keyamo said. He said there are indications that Dokubo’s arrest and detention are a ploy by certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government to keep him away as 2015 approaches. “We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria,” he said. |

I carried this shame for months until I consulted some elders. It was then I was told that my husband wanted to use me for a ritual and that he would carry out this plan through sexual intercourse with me,” she said. The union also demanded that the salary arrears must not be paid in piecemeal. |

12-years-old girl, Miss Chisom Okechukwu, has committed suicide, hanging herself at her family compound at Nnoche-Uduke Community in Okpoitumo in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Okechukwu, a primary five pupil at Nnoche-Uduke Primary School, was said to have left home on Saturday and was not seen until Sunday morning, hanging on a tree at the back of her compound. Her dangling body was discovered by her younger sister, Ndidi, who was going to the toilet dug at the back of the compound. An eye-wtness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Ndidi raised an alarm which attracted their parents and other members of the community who came and brought her down. “The whole scenario brought tension and confusion in the community as people were seen in clusters discussing the death. “People, especially some members of Okechukwu’s family are of the opinion that she did not commit suicide and insisted on a thorough investigation to unravel the true cause of her death,’’ said the witness. He claimed that a neighbour to the Okechukwu family had reported to the girl’s parents that she stole her egg which made them to beat her. “After the incident, Okechukwu went inside their house, changed into her new cloth and left the house only to be seen dangling lifeless on a tree on Sunday,’’ he said. An elder in the community, Mr Friday Itumo, told NAN that the incident had brought confusion to the community as such a tragedy had never been experienced before in the community. “Mr Okechukwu is not the girl’s biological father as her mother came in with her when she re-married Mr Okechukwu after her former husband’s death. “Her former husband’s family members are now insisting that Mr Okechukwu should provide their daughter alive and this has compounded the problem,” he said. Hundreds of sympathisers were seen trooping in and out of the compound, including her school mates who were visibly shocked by her sudden death. The Ebonyi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Chris Anyanwu, confirmed the incident, saying that the matter was reported to the Police Division in Ikwo. “We have commenced investigation into the girl’s death to ascertain why she should engage in such act. “We can’t confirm that she committed suicide because one can be killed and hanged by his or her killer, to claim that the person committed suicide. “We assure her family, members of the community and the whole state that we would get to the root of this matter,’’ he said. The girl’s body has been deposited at the Onueke General Hospital Mortuary in the Ezza South Local Government Area for autopsy. |
Shun pot bellies It makes you look older. One of the factors for pot bellies is the increasing presence of oestrogen in beer. Also, to avoid weight gain, ensure you get a good night’s sleep. This is vital to keep your waistline in check. Studies have shown that people who get fewer than six hours of sleep have higher levels of ghrelin, which is a hormone that stimulates appetite, particularly for high-carbohydrate and high-calorie foods. Stop greying! Early onset of grey hair may be due to a deficiency of certain B vitamins, copper or the amino acid, tyrosine, which is crucial to pigment production. To deal with grey hair, start early. Disguise them with a hair product meant to reduce the appearance of grey hair or with a dye which has been designed for men. Also, go for lost minerals by taking food supplements. Hate wrinkles Of all the obvious signs of ageing, wrinkles are the easiest to remedy. Actually, most of the damage could be as a result of exposure to sun and consumption of sugar. To minimise the risk of sun damage, invest in a daily moisturiser with a built-in sunscreen and wear sunglasses to prevent squinting. Keep skin adequately moisturised (dry skin ages faster than hydrated one). Minimise sugar intake and tone your facial muscles. Never lose a tooth As soon as you start losing teeth, you start losing jawbone and if the bones in your face shrink, your face starts to sag. Tooth loss is mostly caused by gum disease. Keep your teeth healthy and prevent plaque build up by brushing twice daily for a minimum of two minutes each time. Pay regular visits to your dentist (every six months if you have gum problems) and above all, floss, gently going just below the gum line each time you do. Never go bald! Get hair treatment that contains a substance called minoxidil. It has been shown to slow the progression of hereditary hair loss (and encourage hair growth) in some men. Also, eat soya and stop smoking. According to a Harvard School of Public Health study, smoking not only increases levels of the hormones that trigger hair loss, it also constricts the tiny blood vessels that supply blood to the scalp, quite literally starving your hair of nutrients. Halt shrinking Bones reach their peak density around the age of 30, after that, they start becoming weak. The cause is osteoporosis — a loss of bone tissue associated with the ageing process and a condition made worse by negative habits like smoking, drinking and lack of exercise. To minimise the risk, get regular (but protected) sun exposure. This helps the body produce vitamin D which is essential for bones. Get plenty of calcium in your diet. Dairy, soya, nuts and green leafy vegetables, are good sources of calcium. In addition, regular weight training increases bone density. Be a gym freak Over-eating and under-exercising can make you grow fatter and look older. Visit the gym as regularly as possible. If you are fat, stop wearing white T-shirts but opt for dark, matt fabrics, which absorb the light and make the body appear firmer and slimmer. |
1- Never smoke in your home or around children. Many of the toxic substances linger in the air even after the cigarette, cigar or pipe is gone. 2- Ask other people not to smoke in your home, especially babysitters, relatives, and others who care for your children. 3- Ensure that your children’s day-care centres, schools, restaurants, and other places your family spends time in are smoke free. 4- Be assertive: Let family, friends, and the people you work with know that you do care if they smoke around you. 5- In restaurants and bars, ask to sit in the non-smoking area. 6- Ask your employer to make sure you do not have to breathe other people’s smoke at work. 7- Quit smoking for yourself and your loved ones. |
A British woman has appeared in court charged with conning thousands of pounds from Premiership footballers while working as their “lifestyle coach”. Claire Duke, 38, is accused of defrauding high-profile clients – including Cardiff City FC striker Peter Odemwingie – out of more than £70,000 over a one year period. It is alleged Duke received money for holidays and flights from clients but kept the money for herself. She appeared at Cannock Magistrates’ Court in Staffordshire last Wednesday charged with five counts of fraud and one of theft. Between September 1 last year and July 10 of this year she is accused of making a total of £71,106.83 fraudulently. Included in the charges is that while Duke was the lifestyle consultant of 32-year-old Odemwingie, she allegedly stole £15,437.67 by using his debit card. Dressed smartly in a grey dress and black blazer, Duke spoke only to confirm her name and age in court |
Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan is Nigeria’s 14th head of state and current president, but that’s all common knowledge. It’s also common knowledge that he originally came into office after the former president fell ill. Here are some lesser-known things worth learning about. Jonathan was born to a family of canoe makers Jonathan was born in what is now Bayelsa State to a family of canoe makers. In the oil-rich Niger Delta region, this was a somewhat unusual occupation, and Goodluck made the even more rare decision not to follow in his parents’ footsteps. His middle name means “God’s wish” Jonathan’s middle name, Ebele, means “God’s wish,” suggesting his parents had pretty high expectations for him from the get-go. I mean, if your name is Goodluck God’s wish, you’ve got some high hopes to live up to, right? He has a Ph.D in Zoology Which might be a bit of an oddity for a sitting head of state. But Jonathan began with a bachelor’s degree in zoology, and followed up with an master’s in hydrobiology and fisheries biology and a Ph.D in zoology from the University of Port Harcourt. Who knows, maybe the Nigerian presidential office has a ton a pets! He worked as an environmental protection officer before taking office Among other things. Before entering into the political arena in 1998, Jonathan worked as an education inspector, a lecturer, and more memorably as an environmental protection officer. It was in this latter capacity that he stepped into the public light, serving as a watch dog on many corporations in the country. Jonathan seems to have a penchant for being in the right place at the right time It’s common knowledge that he assumed the presidency following then-President Olusegun Obansajo’s illness, but that wasn’t the first time he had to lead. In 1999, he was deputy governor for his home state of Bayelsa when the governor was impeached on corruption charges. Jonathan moved into the open position, beginning his more illustrious political career. His fedora is one of his more memorable signature features The fedora has character, but a former U.S. ambassador made the unfortunate comment that Jonathan lacked charisma and possessed an “underwhelming personality,” a slip of the tongue uncovered in the WikiLeaks scandal. As vice president, he kept a low profile but was instrumental in several key moments One of Jonathan’s niche roles was as a negotiator with his fellow Ijaws. He managed to help forge an agreement with militant groups in the Niger Delta to stop a rash of violence and encouraged them to lay down their weapons in exchange for amnesty, a move celebrated both by his administration and by citizens country wide. Jonathan tried to ban the Nigerian national soccer team after a poor showing at the 2010 World Cup After the Nigerian soccer team didn’t progress past the group stage at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Jonathan tried to implement a two-year ban on the team’s participation in international competition. He later backtracked due to pressure from FIFA, but it was pretty clear he wasn’t pleased with the performance. Jonathan became the first sitting Nigerian president to have his own Facebook page Jonathan launched his Facebook page in June 2010 to help better interact with the Nigerian people. He used it as a platform to announce his run for office in 2011, which would represent his first actual run for political election. His wife has been investigated on money laundering allegations Though she was never found guilty or convicted of any wrongdoing, Jonathan’s wife, Patience, was investigated by an anti-corruption committee in 2006. It was alleged she had tried to launder more than $13 million, but the evidence wasn’t strong enough for a conviction |

The victim’s age and state of health are a matter of concern to the family. The fear was heightened by the abduction of another prominent Ilesa business man, Idowu Obembe, who was kidnapped two years ago only for his decomposed body to be found a year later after a huge ransom had been paid to his abductors. The Owa Obokun of Ijesha land, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, has directed that prayer be raised by Christians, Muslims and traditional religious worshippers groups for the release of the victim. |
