The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrests of 10 suspected criminals terrorising unsuspecting members of the public in the Mushin Area of Lagos State.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement on Thursday, said the state Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the raid to rid the state of criminal suspects unleashing terror on residents.

CSP Ajisebutu said, “In continuation of the ongoing massive, intelligence-led raid of criminal hideouts in Lagos State, the state police command has again, in a special raid carried out around 10pm on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, arrested 10 suspected criminals in all identified criminal hideouts in the Mushin Area of the state.

United States President Joe Biden, and the Chinese President Xi Jinping, talked for the first time in seven months, with both leaders urging a path away from conflict but holding ground on fierce competition between the superpowers.

In the 90-minute call, President Biden warned against misunderstandings that could lead to confrontation between Washington and Beijing while President Xi called for a new direction in a relationship beset by “serious difficulties”, the White House said.

US-China relations went into a nosedive under President Biden’s predecessor Ex-President Donald Trump, who launched a trade war between the world’s number one and two economies and harangued the Chinese Government for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

President Joe Biden’s Administration, while urging multilateralism and an end to Trump’s “America first” ideology, has kept trade tariffs in place and remains tough on other contentious areas of the relationship with Beijing, such as cybersecurity and human rights.
During the call, Joe Biden’s message was that the United States wants to ensure “we don’t have any situation in the future where we veer into unintended conflict,” a senior US administration official told reporters.

In Beijing, state broadcaster CCTV reported that the phone call was “candid, in-depth” with President Xi noting the “serious difficulties” caused by recent US policy towards China, which has seen the countries joust over trade, tech, human rights and the origins of the coronavirus.

“Whether China and the US can properly handle their relations… is critical for the future and destiny of the world,” state broadcaster CCTV said citing Xi.

The White House signaled the diplomatic impasse is unsustainable and potentially dangerous, requiring intervention by the leaders in Thursday’s call.

“We welcome stiff competition but we don’t want that competition to veer into conflict,” the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told reporters.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday narrated the Administration of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for allegedly breaching the agreement it made with the Academic union nine months after it suspended its strike.

The Ibadan Zone of the Union said this in a press conference held at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso addressed by the Coordinator, Prof. Oyebamiji Oyegoke.

The chairpersons of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Ayo Akinwole; UNILORIN, Professor Moyosore Ajao; LAUTECH, Dr Biodun Olaniran and KWASU, Dr Shehu Salau were also present at the briefing.

The union asked Nigerians to hold President Muhammadu Buhari responsible should the educational system be plunged into another round of crisis based on what it described as irresponsibility on the part of the Federal Government.

ASUU stated that only salary shortfall and setting up of Visitation panels to Federal Government-owned universities had been addressed by government while renegotiation of conditions of service, injection of revitalisation funds, payment of earned academic allowances, implementation of University Transparency and Accountability Solution proliferation of state universities, release of withheld salaries and non-remittance of check-off dues of unions which were all contained in the December 22, 2020, Memorandum of Action have not been addressed.

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has paid over N71.9 billion to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to renew its Unified Access Service (UAS) license and Spectrum license for wireless local loop in the 900MHz and 1800MHZ band.

This was disclosed by MTN Nigeria via a statement issued and signed by its Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah, on Wednesday.

According to the company, the licenses, which expired on August 31, 2021, have now been renewed for a further ten-year period, starting on September 1, 2021.

You'll then be required to take a clear photo scan of both the front and back of your license before being prompted to take a selfie for state verification purposes. To further prevent against imposters adding somebody else's identification to their wallet, you'll next be asked to "complete a series of facial and head movements during the setup process".

A group of Apple workers sent an open letter to Apple (iPhone) CEO Tim Cook and the rest of the company's senior leadership team on Friday, presenting a litany of grievances along with demands for addressing the issues.
"Apple prides itself on its commitment to diversity, equity, and an environment where every person is able to do their best work; however, in practice, this is far from the case," the letter begins. "Our experiences with the People team in dealing with harassment and discrimination have left many of us more vulnerable."
The letter was published on the website #AppleToo, which was formed by Apple employees just a few weeks ago for the purpose of collecting accounts of workplace discrimination and harassment at the tech behemoth. But the demands spelled out in the letter extended beyond those topics.
The workers began by the protest of Apple's purported policy of encouraging employees to link their personal iClouds to work devices, calling it "an unacceptable violation" of their privacy.

The Federal Road Safety Corps says it is illegal to receive or make telephone calls while driving, regardless of any wireless gadget used for such communication.

The FRSC also said drivers who make or receive calls behind the wheels with AirPods, EarPods or any form wired or wireless earphones and handsfree mode risk six months in jail.

FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem said driving requires total concentration and road users should not take any risk on their lives.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said it is investigating 11 candidates in the 2021/2022 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination for allegedly tampering with their results.

JAMB’s Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, who briefed journalists at JAMB’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday on the development, said examination body also handed over a 19-year-old candidate, Chinedu John, to the police over alleged result tampering.

According to Oloyede, John claimed he scored 380 in the examination conducted in June and was surprised to receive 265 from the board after the results were released.

He said following the alleged “alteration” of the UTME score, the candidate’s father, John Ifenkpam, approached an Enugu-based lawyer, Ikeazor Akaiwe, who wrote to JAMB for another opportunity for the boy to retake the examination and demanded N1bn as damages to cover for the physical and emotional trauma the boy had been through from being offered “two separate scores.”

According to the JAMB Registrar Oloyede, the candidate claimed that his UTME scores from 2019 till 2021 were “altered” by the board, thereby denying him the opportunity to study his desired course – medicine.

On Friday, the candidate, his father and lawyers travelled to Abuja from Enugu State following an invitation from JAMB management.

The JAMB Registrar said, “Initially, the boy was given few minutes to come clean in a closed session with his father and lawyers about the results he was parading but he insisted that his original score from the examination was 380.

Manchester United have confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the number seven shirt for the 2021-22 season.

The President Muhammadu Buhari Government Administrative has so far recovered about One trillion Naira worth of stolen funds and assets since assuming office in 2015.

The APC Legacy Awareness and Campaign (LAC), a voluntary think-tank group of the governing party, made the statement on Thursday in Abuja, said all final forfeitures are being deployed for use in the government’s special Infrastructure and Social Investment Programmes, or put into the annual Budget.

The group led by APC’s national youth leader Ismeel Ahmed, among others said the most recent Abacha and Ibori loots were transferred to the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), for transparent management under the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF).

The group explained that high-profile recoveries include the following: $322 million Abacha loot from the Government of Switzerland; $311 million Abacha loot from the Bailiwick of Jersey; $100 million recovered by the EFCC for the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), from a company operating in the oil and gas sector.

Naira for the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), from a real estate developer; $43 million security funds from an apartment in Ikoyi; and 189 billion Naira in ‘restrained’ funds from inflated personnel budgets, following ICPC’s scrutiny of practices, systems and procedures of MDAs’ personnel cost from 2019 to 2020.

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the declaration of a Profit After Tax (PAT) of N287billion in the year 2020 by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
A communique by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said the president’s announcement is in fulfillment of an earlier pledge by the Federal Government to publicly declare the financial position of the NNPC.
The statement said the corporation made a net profit, making it the first time in the 44-year history of the establishment

Nigeria Government and Russian Government have signed a military cooperation deal providing a legal framework for the supply of equipment and the training of troops, the Nigerian embassy in Moscow said on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari had expressed interest in such a pact with Russia as far back as 2019, when he met with his Russian President Vladimir Putin at a Russia-Africa summit.

The Nigerian ambassador to Russia at the time said President Buhari felt Russia could help defeat the Boko Haram Islamic insurgency in the northeast of the country, which remains a major problem.
