Hi Guys, I just saw a post on Twitter about someone who was almost not allowed to board their flight on Lufthansa last night because someone outside the country purchased their ticket for them. This has me terrified because it was my brother in the UK that purchased my ticket for me and I honestly do not want to have that experience.

Has anyone had this experience before and is there a way to avoid having issues with the airline?

It’s really bad here that’s why the government is cracking down on new people Coming it. Lots of people are struggling to survive here now. Newcomers can even afford to buy a home anymore they can’t get mortgages, cost of living has gone up, difficult to get a common minimum wage job not to talk of skilled jobs.

Only 20 percent of the population earns from above 100,000 cad a year. Majority of the people earns below 40,000 cad a year after tax of which out of those majority, huge percentage of Them gets 30,000 cad downwards a year. Do the maths for monthly earnings . Between 2200 to 3800 cad a month after tax! You will think that’s a lot when you are doing exchange conversion back home but here it’s nothing, you can’t survive here with that money. Self contain here in Ontario where I am now goes from 1800 to 2500 cad a month just one room self. You can’t even rent 2 rooms it’s really expensive. Even if you are in other provinces many are going from between 1200 to 1800 cad . Grocery is not there, gas, phone bills and car maintenance. Now tell me what will you do with that money.

Many people who haven’t traveled will not understand life abroad. You can say everything is beautiful bla bla bla road light whatever but you have to pay the price. That’s why people can’t even buy a home .you must have a combine income of approximately $263,300 in gross income to be approved for the average home price of $1,103,600 in Toronto. These houses now going for around 2 million. Now tell me someone earning 30k or 40k even with the spouse income won’t be able to get ordinary mortgage to buy a home that you still have to pay for balance for the next 25 to 30 years if you are even still alive to finish payment and still have a job to escape foreclosure. Even in provinces where houses are cheaper , it’s still difficult to get the money for down payment. Those who own home in nigeria are better off than here in the sense that you don’t have to worry about mortgage in nigeria , and many don’t pay property tax bla bla the only thing is the value of the house. If you don’t work here and have a mortgage you will have high blood pressure everyday coz you can be homeless anytime. This is why anyone earning between 500,000 to 1000000 a month in nigeria and own a home is far better than those here earning minimum wage.

Those who came early are lucky because things weren’t this bad. Now it’s so worse to the extent that malls are canceling self checkouts Walmarts , no frills among others because the people are bypassing goods while scanning their cart items , people will buy 10 goods and scan only 5 because no one is checking them. The crime rate is going up.

If your parent isn’t rich and you can’t survive on your own for atleast a year , it’s better not to come here . Plan before making that move. I know a student doing Uber eat using electric bicycle. Makes just 40 dollars a day. If not for his parents sending him money he would have gone back to India. I wish people know how cold it is. Imagine riding Uber eats on bicycles at night in the cold. He is not his choice to do this , he has been looking for jobs for 3 months in Toronto without success, not even a cleaning Job.

This is the grimmest picture I have ever seen anybody paint of any country abroad let alone Canada. I know things are bad but are they that bad? Is it possible that maybe your location (Toronto) is faring worse than other places?

I am going to London and my friend who moved there last month got a job at a coffee shop the following week. It's a fair start for someone who is a student and has little Canadian experience. I don't know about life after graduation, that's an entirely different kettle of fish but I do know that Nigeria in its current state is not an option for me. I would sooner move to Botswana than remain here.

You know what they say about someone who has nothing to lose?

No one is playing with your wife emotions, l live here would you rather come waste over 50million here or invest somewhere else.

All this course are irrelevant to the government here except few healthcare and few tech courses. They will only take your money and frustrate you back home when your PGWP expires. You will never get PR like others. This is the reality here.

Many of you just using google to do research and never listen. Keep saying Canada need people. The study visas is nothing but cash cow business and they make billions and send people back home after studying. You need to invest your money somewhere else . If you must come here come in with PR I keep saying it doesn’t even worth it coming as a student anymore except few health and tech courses. Other courses are irrelevant and useless and waste of resources

What kind of health courses? Also can we take those health courses in Colleges or it only has to be universities?

If your brother is your sponsor, you should login his mobile app on your phone to show you have access to the money whenever you need it. You can also carry cash as POF.

Not sure about the login into his mobile app part. Carrying cash is more feasible for me. Is there a cap on the amount of cash I can carry with me?

Hello Guys,

You don't get to read this quite often here, nevertheless, you may want to read this.

For those who have gotten their PPR, congrats to y'all. For those who are yet to receive their PPR, you will get it.

When coming to Canada, please get your shit together at the point of entry. Depending on the immigration officer that you will be meeting, they may be nice to you, while others will probably not be. Whatever tone they take with you, remain calm and answer to the best of your knowledge.
Please know the answers to simple questions, such as "What course are you studying?", "What is the name of your school?", "What's the duration of your course of study?", "When will you graduate (month and year)?", "where will you stay (address)?" - They may decide to call your contact should you say you will be staying with a friend - If you said Airbnb, please keep your receipt ready. If you did GIC, I'd suggest you log onto their Portal with your phone and have access to your transactions - be ready to show it.

As a JJC who is coming to Canada for the first time, please come with enough food items. Most airlines offer 23 x 2kg, so I'd suggest you have your clothing in one 23kg and food items in the other 23kg. No go pack cloth full everywhere, unless, of course, you carry better bar de come, otherwise na hunger go first kee u b4 cold and rent go use u play monkey post. Groceries cost o. Research abt Canada outlet (electric socket), if you ft get the appropriate adapter for Naija, I mean the one wey go match ur phone/laptop charger, carry am de come, e go save u a few dollars and waka around.

As per accommodations, you do not need to get here first before before looking for a place to stay. You can start the arrangements from Naija. I find kijiji dot com more secure. But Facebook is even cheaper but dem get plenty scammers. You can sublet a room from a student who is going for a co-op (internship) and may want to lease their room for a period of 4 to 8 months. Subletting is generally cheap, although some of them do inflate the prices of those rooms, but as naija pikin, always negotiate! If you are using Facebook posts to look for accommodations, do not pay until you arrive in Canada, and with your two legs and eyes, see the room. Please don't fall for a housing scam! If you are in doubt, always ask questions.

After getting your study permit at the Airport, ask a security person or a worker where you can get your Social Insurance Number (SIN). Remember to carry your luggage afterward.

Get a USD/CAD prepaid card from your bank in Naija, deposit some funds into it, and come with it. Or you can buy CAD from Aboki and come with it (Remember to check for fakes). No go carry USD enter here and come de change am to CAD for airport, their exchange rate is horrible.

Lyft (a rider app) is generally cheap (as compared to others) in my experience, you can download the app and book a ride to pick you up from the airport. There are also Uber and Airport Taxis, but I find them quite expensive.

The Nigerian community here is pretty much not as strong as our Indian brothers, but you will get to meet Nigerians who are quite good (and I don't mean carrying your burden or catering to your needs). You will also get to meet those who are aloof. If you meet a naija brethren here on the first day, you may think they are "feeling too big" but don't worry, you guys may soon become buddies. Always reach out, you just never can tell.

And don't worry, Nigerians de small for this country. Asians de run the streets, so no allow anybody tell you say pple dn full here, na lie, there's enough space for all of us. Depending on the Province wey u de enter, student work ft hard to get, especially in Ontario, you go suffer small oo, na y I de say, come with food (and money for rent, even if it for a few months b4 you find something doing) otherwise you might get discouraged, which may even lead to depression/break down.

Remember, do not take your eyes off the price!

I wish us success! And I wish us well!

Thank you so much for this brother, I really needed this. Especially those questions that Immigration may ask at the POE. Nobody has said anything about those even on Youtube videos that I watch.

I have a few questions if you don't mind.

1. How do we show proof of funds at the POE? Can I pay USD into my DOM account and show them there? Or print bank statements and bring along with me? My brother is my sponsor and I used his account for the POF for my Visa.

2. Should I open a GIC account instead and also use that as POF at POE?

A very nice one. I’ll recommend airfrance…but don’t get lost oh, no one will understand you 😂

I will try not to go looking for anyone. Lol.

I tried booking but I keep seeing KLM on the Airfrance website and vice versa. Are they combining passengers or something? Also, no transit visa right? My friend suggested to use Lufthansa but the layover is over 6 hours and they arrive Toronto much later in the day.

Airfrance has a shorter layover and they arrive in the afternoon.

Happy new year everyone.
Landing gist

Left Ibadan to Lagos on the morning of December 31st. My kids were still asleep so I kissed them and cried heavily. I was going to really miss them. Lodged in an hotel close to the airport, slept a little, cried again, and finally left for the airport around 5pm with my husband.

We got to the first gate and they didn’t want to allow my husband in. We gave them what they wanted and he was allowed. Same also happened at the entrance.

Agricultural dept and quarantine asked what I had in my bag, they didn’t even allow me say anything before asking me to do end of the year for them. Sorted them and check in started.

I flew airfrance. The official asked for my enrollment letter, admission letter, and tuition receipt (I paid only deposit, showed them the receipt), was cleared to check in. Check in was very fast because I got there early. Collected my boarding pass and went to wait for preboarding at the new terminal. Said goodbye to my husband and proceeded.

Everything went smooth. We had a 30min delay and flight took off at exactly 12:00 on new year. Couldn’t eat their food. Landed in Paris after 5 hours….then something happened….I got lost.

So there was this guy, his family and two other ladies I hooked up with. Whilst waiting for our connecting flight, he decided to go find something to eat. He called his wife after about an hour and said he was lost and was trying to navigate. He called back and said he was at one gate but will need his boarding pass to cross. His wife couldn’t go because of their kids, she begged me to go. I did

Met up with him in less than 3mins, and that was where the wahala started. ‘Twas a one way in, I couldn’t go back. We went round the airport, and asked questions, but no one could understand or reply us well…even the immigration and security officers. Everyone spoke French

After about 3 hours of merry-go-rounding, including preboarding for a flight we didn’t need just so we could go out and connect through another door, took two trains and one bus, we were still lost. In my mind, I was like “my village people don finally catch me”. God so good, my connecting flight was still in 2hrs.

Finally met an official who could understand us a little but couldn’t speak. She snapped our pictures and was able to locate our other group. She kinda linked us up, and all of us connected.

We connected and touched down toronto. I was scared because I hadn’t paid my fees yet. We got there and immigration asked all of us to line up, collected our LOI together, printed our study permit, called our names, and asked us to form another line. There were just 3 CbBSA officers on seat, others were on holidays for the new year.

I already had my study permit at hand, and joined the queue. Got to my turn and was asked if I had meat, I said yes. Asked for the course I was studying, then she stamped my passport, wrote something on it and cleared me to go.

Waited again for my connecting flight to Halifax. Got to Halifax, cleared my boxes, couldn’t change money. Called my flat mate, ordered my taxi and got home.

I pray all of us here will have breath-taking testimonies very soon…in Jesus name

Happy new year everyone

Congratulations.

How was the experience on Airfrance because I am contemplating using the airline.

Is this possible? I thought that you can only come in through the school you applied for originally and was issued Visa for?
Ethanuella:

Try to apply to another school for January or May intake.

What to do if your Canadian study permit is about to expire
If your Canadian study permit is about to expire, you must take prompt action to maintain your legal status in Canada. Here are the steps you should consider:

1. Renewal Application:
Applying for a permit renewal should be done at least 30 days before the expiration of your present permit. By doing this, you can be confident that you will have adequate time to resolve any problems that may come up while your application is being processed.
Check the study permit's expiration date and apply online for a renewal via the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

2. Eligibility requirements:
Make sure you still meet the requirements to be eligible for a study visa. This entails continuing to be enrolled full-time and achieving sufficient academic growth.

3. Gather the required documents:
Collect all necessary documents for your renewal application. This may include a letter of acceptance from your educational institution, proof of financial support, and any other documents required by the IRCC.

4. Pay the fees:
Fee information can be found on the IRCC website: $150 for a study permit.

5. Comply with the conditions:

Continue to comply with all the conditions of your previous study permit until a decision is made on your renewal application.

I hope you find this useful...

I am in a bit of a dilemma and I don't know if this applies to me as well.

I was supposed to resume in September 2023 but my visa arrived in late October, my agent deferred my course but unfortunately, the school does not offer the course in January, so they moved it to September 2024.

My visa is only valid till July 31st 2024. What do I do? Can I resume early in Maybe June and apply for an extension or do I have to apply for a new visa?

did you submit your passport in Lagos and how many days before you got the email of collection.

I submitted my passport in Lagos via UPS and got email for collection 3 days later. I picked it up at VFS.

Choose YYZ Pearson international.

For the ticket, check Egyptair/Turkish air

Thank you very much. Can I book one way for Turkish and transit visa isn't required right?

Hi everyone. I am supposed to travel to London Ontario for May Intake. I have a few questions and I would really love for someone to attend to me.

First of all, what airline is best for a trip from Lagos to Ontario. Someone adviced me to use AirFrance but the reviews I have seen Nigerians give online is frightening. From things like missing luggage to refusal to board due to a lack of return ticket. Qatar airways is outrageously expensive.

Secondly, which of the airports in Ontario should I choose. I keep seeing acronyms like YYZ, YTZ and YTO. Thank you.
