Direct insult to Christians’ — Vatsa knocks Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket for 2027

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Niger State, Jonathan Vatsa, has criticised the reported decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 presidential election, warning that Christians will not support another Muslim-Muslim ticket.


Vatsa described the move as “a direct insult” to the Christian community, saying it was politically insensitive and could cost the ruling party Christian votes.

In a statement issued in Minna on Saturday, the former Niger State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism said the circumstances that justified the same-faith ticket in 2023 no longer existed.


“I think this is a grievous mistake by the APC. It is highly insensitive,” he said.

According to him, those behind the decision “did not mean well” for the President or the party.


“With the current situation in the country and the concerns over the safety of Christians, nobody expected the President to repeat this arrangement,” Vatsa said.

He argued that the APC would struggle to convince Christians to support its ticket in 2027, especially if other political parties field Christian candidates.

“What do you expect us to tell the Christian community, to vote for another Muslim-Muslim ticket?” he insisted.


Vatsa, who recently urged Niger State Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago to pick a Christian running mate for the 2027 governorship election, said Christians already feel insecure and would be more comfortable with a Christian vice-presidential candidate.

He warned that repeating the Muslim-Muslim ticket could have “grievous consequences” for the APC’s electoral chances.

The APC stalwart, however, clarified that his position was not against Vice President Shettima or the Muslim community.


“I have nothing against the Vice President or the Muslim community. I am speaking for equity, justice and fairness in the political arrangement of the country,” he added..

Edo state Local Government elections were held on Saturday 11July2026, and the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission has announced candidates of the All Progressives Congress as winners of the chairmanship seats in all 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

The APC also won all the 192 ward councillorship seats in the election.

Mr Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, Chairman of the commission, declared the results during a press conference in Benin, the state capital, on Sunday 12July2026.

He said the election was successfully conducted in all the 18 LGAs and 192 wards in the state.

According to him, accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results were carried out in accordance with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law 2022 (as amended in 2026), and other applicable regulations.

“Following the completion of the collation process at the various ward and local government collation centres, the duly appointed ward and local government returning officers announced and declared the results in their respective jurisdictions.

“Based on the official results declared by the returning officers, the commission hereby declares that the All Progressives Congress w[url][/url]on the 18 local government chairmanship positions and all the 192 councillorship seats contested in the election,” he said.

We Nigerians hardly decide anything, including who governs us. And most of you people loudly clamouring for free and fair elections online don't even have a voter's card. Even if they do, una no go show up on election day to vote.

There was no need for oshiomole to rig.
He performed during his first term compared to the previous guys before him and we all saw it.
It wasn't a paper achievement for us to read like Tinubu is doing now, we all saw and experienced it physical. PDP and other parties just participated in that election for participating sake. Oshiomole won all the 18 local govt and none of the parties contested it in court or shout rigging😂
It was a clean sweep. Infact, the PDP candidate joined ACN then immediately.
It was unfortunate oshiomole decided not to do anything in his second term and we all felt betrayed for the faith we had in him.
It was even a bitter blow when he decided to impose Obaseki instead of allowing free and fair primaries
That was the genesis of oshiomole issue in Edo. That imposition of Obaseki. He didn't stop at the ACN primaries, he still went ahead to rig him in as governor. that was the reason when he came in 2020 and said he doesnt want Obaseki again, we told him clearly "Edo nor be Lagos" (meaning, one man doesn't decide for us).

This is not the first time Wike has taken a swipe at Obi. The former Rivers State Governor has consistently maintained that the NDC Presidential candidate l@cks the political structure and nationwide acceptance needed to win the presidency.

As the countdown to 2027 begins, more political heavyweights are expected to openly declare their positions on the presidency’s re-election bid.

Lagos pre 1999, education was in shambles. Lagosian flooded the schools in Ogun state instead for better and more quality education puting their wards in hostels. Tinubu came in and changed the situation. Now Lagos education is not only of high quality in Lagos but also free from primary to secondary. Same thing with security. They were almost selling human parts in Lagos in open market but Tinubu prioritized security and was the only governor who created special forces and security trust fund. Other governors later follow suits. How can u explain IGR magic Pre 1999. Someone who increased state IGR from 600million to 8 billion monthly during his time as Governor is a pace setter and performer. Other governors have come before him and no such feat. And today only between January and April 2026, Lagos generated 807 billion naira in IGR. And u feel it is the military or former capital status that laid this foundation? Tinubu created the wealth that Lagos is using to Gau today, same thing he is doing in Nigeria. Look at Nigeria IGR by the end of Buhari and compare what this man is generating for Nigeria today. States are paying salaries comfortably and are also doing projects. And u feel this is just fluke , despite falling oil prices and world wars here and there?
