17 Islamic madrasah pupils known 'Almajirai' were killed when a commercial bus belonging to Adamawa state transport company ran over them Thursday evening.

Reports said the victims between the ages of seven and twelve were swimming in a stream at Gorundo village in Gassol local government area of Taraba state when the driver of the bus lost control and ran into them in the stream killing the 17 almajirais on the spot.

An eye witness told Daily Trust that apart from those killed several others were injured and taken to Mutum Biyu Referral hospital where they were placed on danger list due to severity of their injuries.

The chairman Gassol local government council,Alhaji Tukura Bashiru confirmed the incident, but said report made available to him by the police indicated that 12 almajirai died on the spot while four others were on admission at Mutum Biyu Referral hospital.

It is not the matter of tribe or religion,the problem is poverty and illiteracy. Any place where the population is high,crime will be higher..and another thing is that the way my northern brothers give birth to kids that they cannot look after and supervise is painful.I am a Muslim and also a norther but I get angry whenever I see children running around playing,begging and misbehaving without their parents taking responsibility of what they gave to.pls don't insult Muslims or Northern people because there are good and bad people in all tribes and religion.
