PoliticsProtesters Block Benin–lagos Expressway Over Insecurity Concerns by oseremhe(op): 12:14pm On Apr 01
Youths in Benin City on Wednesday blocked both lanes of the Benin–Lagos Expressway at the Ugbowo main gate, bringing traffic to a standstill.

At the time of filing this report, a large crowd of protesters had gathered at the scene, demonstrating peacefully while chanting anti-corruption songs. Some of the protesters who spoke with news correspondents expressed deep frustration over the state of insecurity in the country.

They specifically referenced the recent killing of several Christians in Jos, Plateau State, which reportedly occurred three days earlier, describing the incident as one of many that have heightened public fear and anger.

The blockade caused significant disruption, with long lines of stranded vehicles stretching along the expressway. Many commuters who could not endure the delay were seen abandoning their vehicles and continuing their journeys on foot.
PoliticsRe: What Would You Like To Tell President Bola Ahmed Tinubu? by oseremhe: 7:48pm On Oct 16, 2025
From the response given so far, 75 percent of respondents disprove of this administration 10% are in between and just 15% are in support, this is one of the most unpopular regime Nigeria has ever experienced apart from that of abacha, the tinubu adminstration would be needing lots of rigging to survive the 2027 general election, no wonder lots of states governors and political decision makers are decamping and others are being intimidated to decamp to the ruling party
PoliticsRe: Uche Nnaji Shows Proof That He Graduated In 1985 From UNN (Picture) by oseremhe: 7:25pm On Oct 06, 2025
This is not proof of graduation, it's proof that he attended the school in question, the certificate would prove that he actually graduated, it's normal for students in a particular class to collectively organise a year book, for example I was in my class graduation photo book but I left school the next year because of pending carry overs, perhaps I didn't return to write and pass my carry overs then I would automatically expect the school to issue me a certificate because I featured prominently in my class graduation photo ops, so from the evidence it's obvious he attended the school but didn't graduate, and now what about the certificate he's parading around, was it issued to him by the school or not, obviously it wasn't, he has no right whatsoever to issue himself a certificate, if that is the case then would be allegedly guilty of certificate forgery, The minster should honourably resign, that's what's expected in a normal clime
PoliticsAn Open Letter To President Tinubu by oseremhe(op): 12:11pm On Jul 23, 2025
An Open Letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR

‎Your Excellency,

‎I write to you today not in bitterness, nor in anger, but with a deep-seated burden in my heart-borne out of love for my country, and concern for the plight of her people. I am an ordinary Nigerian, one without wealth or political influence, but with a sincere desire to see my nation rise to its full potential under your leadership.

‎Mr President, I have long admired you. As a child in primary school, I recall reading newspaper articles that chronicled your valiant role in the pro-democracy struggle during the dark days of military rule. The legendary courage of NADECO and the defiant voices that demanded democracy, including your own! it ignited a flicker of hope in my young heart. You became a figure I looked up to; your principled defiance, your belief in freedom, your insistence on the people’s right to choose resonated deeply with me. Through the AD, AC, ACN, and now the APC, I have always believed in your political journey, certain that one day, your vision would lead us to a better Nigeria.

‎During the long reign of the PDP from 1999 to 2014, many of us grew disillusioned. We watched, often helplessly, as corruption, economic stagnation, and insecurity ate away at our national fabric. We hoped and prayed for a political Messiah. And many believed that hope came alive in you. You, who once stood shoulder to shoulder with citizens in protest marches. You, who spoke up fiercely against maladministration, electoral malpractice, and injustice. You were not only a politician; you were a symbol of resistance.

‎Mr President, I still believe your intentions are noble. You possess a formidable intellect, evident in your policy pronouncements and your academic pedigree as a first-class graduate of Accounting from Chicago State University. Under your stewardship, the removal of the fuel subsidy, the introduction of a student loan scheme, and an overhaul of our tax architecture all speak to a vision of long-term economic stability. These are bold, technocratic reforms, commendable in intent.

‎Yet, the reality on ground paints a painful, almost irreconcilable contrast.

‎Since the APC assumed power in 2015, first under President Muhammadu Buhari, and now under your leadership, Nigeria’s GDP per capita has plunged from over $3,000 in 2014 to below $900 today. The naira is in freefall, and the cost of living has spiralled beyond the reach of the average citizen. Basic necessities, food, transport, medicine, have become luxuries for millions. Starvation looms in households where once meagre earnings could still guarantee a plate of food.

‎Worse still, corruption has taken on an air of permanence in our security architecture. The police and paramilitary agencies, institutions meant to serve and protect, are too often the instruments of extortion, harassment, and even repression. More alarming, however, is the growing erosion of our democracy. The freedom of expression, the right to peaceful assembly, and the dignity of civil liberties are all under siege. It is now commonplace for citizens to be arrested and detained over libel or defamation, issues that in any functioning democracy are civil, not criminal matters.

‎Mr President, a poor Nigerian today is but a step away from prison, his only offence being a divergent opinion or criticism of a powerful individual. This culture of fear, this creeping autocracy, is antithetical to everything you once stood for.

‎What has happened to the soul of our democracy?

‎You have always said that all politics is local. Yet the local governments across the federation have been rendered impotent, subjugated by governors who see them as mere administrative appendages. In the early years of this Republic, we witnessed LG chairmen from opposition parties thrive independently. Today, such political pluralism is but a nostalgic memory. The system has been so centralised and suffocated that democracy at the grassroots is virtually extinct.

‎And yet, in the midst of all this, politicians defect in droves to the ruling party, giving a false impression of popularity. But the truth is plain to see. Nigerians are weary, bitterly disappointed, and dangerously disillusioned. If a free, fair, and transparent poll were conducted today, the results would speak volumes of how deep the loss of trust runs.

‎Sir, this is not just political disaffection; it is existential despair.

‎I urge you, with the utmost humility and sincerity, to take stock. History still awaits your defining moment. You can be the leader who changed the course of Nigeria’s decline—if only you listen to the cries of the people. Introduce policies that the poor can relate to. Consider direct welfare interventions: cash grants for the elderly above 75, child support schemes for vulnerable families, unemployment benefits for our teeming youth. South Africa does it. Why can’t we?

‎Reform the police, not just in name but in practice. End impunity and institutional extortion. Give INEC its independence in spirit and structure. Subsidise health care for diseases such as cancer, kidney failure, and organ transplants. Let citizens feel that they matter again, that their government sees and cares for them.

‎As I write this, kidnapping is rampant, banditry unchecked, and travel across state lines a game of Russian roulette. The Middle Belt has become a killing field, yet the anguish of the people goes unanswered. Every Nigerian today feels alone, vulnerable, and abandoned.

‎Mr President, what legacy would you want to leave behind?

‎This is your moment, not just to be in office, but to lead with empathy, courage, and conviction. You still have time to turn things around. Your name can yet be etched in gold, not merely as a tactician or strategist, but as a true servant of the people, a man who rose to the occasion when it mattered most.

‎I do not know if this letter will ever reach you. But if it does, may you receive it as a divine call to action. As we say in our local parlance: the voice of the people is the voice of God.

‎Nigerians are drowning, Mr President. Please be the lifeline.

‎Yours in hope and patriotic concern,
‎A Concerned and Ordinary Nigerian Citizen.
‎Dr Oserme O.

So because South South Governors are defecting Tinubu would automatically win the South South, you talk as if the residents of the south south are small children belonging to the governors, who doesn't have any sense of descenment about who to vote for! In a free and fair election Tinubu wouldn't get up to fifty thousand votes in any state in the south-south irrespective of the party of the governors, those still thinking that these governors defecting to the APC would win Thier state for Tinubu should please wake up, I live in the south! Tinubu will lose massively here

Despite all the rigging and monetary inducement during the gubernatorial election, he couldn't even get up to 500k votes for himself, yet he's planning on getting 2.5 million votes for Tinubu that is disliked with passion in Edo, somebody should inform President Tinubu that these people are taking him for a ride, in a free and fair election APC would hardly be able to win a councillorship sit in Edo.

I'm just reading some comments here with bathed bread and disgust, it's really surprising that the major arvheivement president Tinubu has to campaign with, is a neo capitalist policy that has sent millions of Nigerians into the abyss of multidimensional poverty. And we should hope for a better future when fellow citizens are dying enmass because of inability to afford the basic necessity of life. Politics, tribe or religion aside. What positive economic indices has improved since the emergence of Tinubu's government. The man has totally eroded the little progress of the past few years , on the alter of a grand pyrrhic utopia future. Nigerians are dying

PoliticsRe: Peter Obi Blames Tinubu's Government For The Crises Rocking PDP And Labour Party by oseremhe: 6:52am On May 23, 2025
Now lets be honest with ourselves, leave Labour party alone for now, who's causing the problems in PDP,if not Wike and who is empowering Wike, it's an open secret that majority of the governors in PDP today are jumping ship to APC because of the division and crises in the party whimsically orchestrated by Wike. It is not the Job of Peter Obi to fix the problem holistically speaking, rather it's the job of Inec, as a leader of a political party your job is to organise yourselves and it's inec's job to give authority to that organisation, now if other people decides to wake up one morning and abrogate to themselves the name and functional titles of your parties national working community, the reasonable thing to do is to challenge them in court, now the case has gone all the way to the supreme court and favourable judgement has been gotten by Obi's group yet Inec has decided to sit on the fence and do nothing. Inwc have decided to keep quiet and watch rather criminally as fringe groups emerge from the blues to claim leadership of political parties and the instruments of state watch idly. we must call a spade a spade the problems currently bedeviling political parties in Nigeria has a state sponsored colouration and it's rather regretable that rather than face governance the ruling party headed by Tinubu continues despicable politicking while being lethargic in addressing the problems besetling the Country.

Is this the problem currently bedeviling this country, how does this translate to the price of garri or a bag of rice in the market. Rather than focus on the crippling economic realties in Nigeria currently, people are here pontificating on the visit of the south African president to Tinubu, what's it with the youths of this generation
PoliticsRe: Videos And Pictures Of Presidents Tinubu And Obasanjo In South Africa by oseremhe: 7:58am On Jun 20, 2024
Would have been better to have a generation of youths who would be composed enough to judge people by the content of thier character, but sadly we are left with a generation of youths who have found pleasure in picking up the vitriols of tribalism and ethnocentrism, it's a shame to see comments here on nairaland on a daily basis, yorubas attacking Ibos and Ibos attacking Yoruba and then other ethnic groups attacking each other, it's a shame really. Is this the kind of youths the country should hand over the heims of leadership to?rather than contextualise and intelligently discern issues based on critical thinking, tribal ratiocinations quickly set in and quickly engulf the narrative, it is now almost impossible to have an intelligent conversation with an average Nigerian youth on issues of governance and politics without the conversation changing course towards the ignoble path of debilitating ethnocentrism, in all these, one is tempted to ask, where is critical thinking among the bulk of the so called educated Nigerian youths, where is tolerance and where is the shared beliefs of patriotism and thoughts that bad governance has no tribe, race or creed, if Nigeria works then all that in Is and comprises the entity called Nigeria would in Pari-passu.
Moreso in retrospect one is tempted to ask albeit thoughtfully, who is a Yoruba, and who is Ibo, who is an Hausa and who is a Niger deltan, who are the middle belters and finally who is a Nigerian, I leave this question for the discerning mind to answer.
PoliticsRe: One Year Of ‘renewed Hope’: Tinubu’s Costly Reforms Leave Nigerians On Edge by oseremhe: 3:34pm On May 24, 2024
There's no tangible indices that indicates that the country is moving in the right direction, the whole country is nose down and heading hopelessly at breakneck speed into economic oblivion, there's serious hunger in the land as Nigerians can no longer enjoy at least the basic necessities of life. At this point it would be safe to adduce that the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been nothing short of a monumental disaster of legendary proportions.

Nigeria doesn't have the financial weawithal to finish up this project, if we spend half of that amount in servicing and refurbishing existing roads, then this country would rank among the best in the world in terms of road network,it's totally unreasonable to spend that much amount on a single road when this country is currently neck deep in debt

You can shout or say anything you like because of emotions but then calm down and read your history books very well. Even prior Lagos state government websites had this information on their pages, most university culture textbooks in Nigeria have this information, most textbooks in West African history have this information and there has never been any fuss about it, why now. I think this is all happening because of the introduction of tribal politics in Lagos state
