People should just soft pedal on heaping praises on Lagos governors and have some deep retrospection on what they are supposedly touted as doing. Like this is just a roundabout for petes sake

It is pretty easy to get any Lagos governor to seem like he/she is working because of the way Lagos is strategically positioned within the media, intellectual, creative and economic sphere.

During Fashola time, it was as if BRF was the best thing in Lagos since ewa agoyin and bread but immediately the chips are down the reality of the hype and incompetence came bare.

PoliticsNiger Delta Governors Want Corruption Charges Dropped Across The Region To Stop by ossuofia1(op): 9:32pm On Jun 07, 2016
Governors of the South-South region who met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House today called for a majority of the corruption cases in the region to be dropped by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), SaharaReporters has learned.

The meeting was attended by Governors of Edo, Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, as well as the Deputy Governor of Cross River.

Our source, who was at the meeting, said that only the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole and the deputy Governor of Cross River opposed the others, who singled out the federal government’s anti-corruption initiative as the reason why Niger Delta Avengers are blowing up pipelines in the region.

Speaking one after the other, the governors reportedly asked the Federal government to drop charges against former militants accused of corruption. They also want the EFCC to stop investigating the campaign fund scam which has so far revealed how former President Goodluck Jonathan shared funds meant that were meant for combating Boko Haram among his People’s Democratic Party functionaries.

Our correspondents also learned that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, was curiously on the side of the South-South governors who want corruption charges and all forms of corruption investigations against the Niger Delta politicians discontinued.

The Governor of Delta, Patrick Okota, reportedly obtained a two-week ceasefire from the Niger Delta Avengers before arriving at the meeting but did not disclose it because he was uncomfortable that the Vice President wasn’t disposed to the idea. SaharaReporters learnt that through his Deputy, Mr. Okowa had extensive meetings with the Niger Delta Avengers, pointing out that it was evident that he and other South South governors knew who the militants were as he spoke at the meeting.

The source further stated that if the terms pushed by the South South Governors are fully adopted by the Buhari regime, his anti-corruption fight will die prematurely in all of the South South states. He said that from the tone of the meeting, it was clear that the Niger Delta Avengers and their activities are being funded by politicians in the region with the objective of halting Buhari’s anti-corruption war.

A press statement issued at the end of the meeting by the Vice-President’s office indicated that the federal government was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Defense, Rtd. Major General Mohammed Dan Ali; Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani; and Dr. Kachikwu.

Also in attendance were military service chiefs, led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin

I'm a Buhari supporter but if the Constitution allows Fayose to ban Fulani herdsmen in the wake of the recent security challenges then he has my full support.

If Buhari doesn't nip this in the bud, it would count against APC in 2019.

Let truth be told!

PoliticsBayelsa Citizens Strengthen Fight Against Pipeline Vandalism by ossuofia1(op): 12:14pm On May 21, 2016
The Bayelsa State Government and some leaders of most of the communities in the state say they are not in support of any militant group vandalising the nation’s oil pipelines.

They are also agreed to do their best to ensure that the militants pay for their crimes.

Nigeria is witnessing a downward slide of its economy, with a dropping GDP due to the dwindling export of crude oil occasioned by pipeline vandalism carried out by some suspected militants in the oil rich Niger Delta.

Bayelsa State is one of the oil producing states in Nigeria and it is also the epicentre of the Niger Delta and its struggle.

The State is also one of the hot beds for militancy, a situation that had triggered the meeting to put an end to misinformed agitation amongst youth from the state.

At the meeting were Governor Seriake Dickson, community leaders, heads of all security agencies and the representatives of the heads of the oil companies.

The Governor told the gathering that there was the need to tackle the ugly trend of militancy resurfacing in the region in recent weeks.

An agreement was also reached that all suspected militants in the communities would be handed over to security agencies.

The issue of kidnapping was also handled, as the Governor announced the criminalisation of any form of negotiation with militants who partake in hostage taking and kidnapping.

The gathering was like no other that had ever held in Bayelsa and its environs, as the elders and everyone present affirmed that the culprits were not strangers but people resident in their communities.

They all agreed to strengthen security and look inward in the fight against militancy which they believe would make Bayelsa State safe.
