Islam for Muslims / Who Will Wipe The Tears??? by ossyme(m): 4:54pm On Apr 12, 2018
Have you ever witnessed debates amount Muslim youths in recent times? Either in our local masjids, our citadels of higher learning or get together? Have you ever pondered over the passion and depth of such arguments? Have you observed the consequences? While it is important to engage in intellectually stimulating discussions in order to progress on the ladder of knowledge and consciousness as extolled by Allah when He (Azza Wa Jalla) enjoined us to ask the People of Knowledge if we do not know, I am afraid to note that a lot of what we term discourse in the religious arena are largely a sorry indication of the abyss we have sunk in as regards our religious obligations. Sometimes, a reflection of our not being in touch with our immediate realities or even an incorrect prioritization of our expectations/demands in our multicultural environment. The discourse still largely centre on matters that can best be described as secondary if not tertiary.
How do we tackle the endemic spread of utter shirk even among the people we regard as scholars? Who will propagate Islam where even Adhaan (call to Prayer) has never been heard, not for once? Who will canvass protection for the endangered because of the use of a simple head covering, not to mention the use of full hijab or khimaar? Who will embark on the awareness that the basic pillars (shahaadah, five times daily prayers, zakat, hajj and fast in Ramadaan) of Islam are still largely shunned by a sizeable chunk of our muslim folks? What can we do as a body to find a way to improve the engagement of products of the traditional madaaris (ile kewus/Arabic schools) since they almost wake up, upon graduation, to the disturbing reality that irrespective of the luxury their leaders live in, there is no economic plan in place to safeguard their economic independence? What of our imams/alfas? How are they remunerated in our various masjids? Have they not chosen a path they may be constrained to consider as perilous? Who will educate our teeming youth on the application of the pristine texts given the peculiarity of our society/environment/country? What will be the solution to the increasing number of muslim sisters who are willing to settle down but because of surplus supply are entrapped? No thanks to the stark shortage of brothers? In a world where even muslim women campaign more against polygamy than the ubiquitous objectification of women and other perversions adorned as ‘sexual orientations’. Where are the funds from the Arab world? Will they ever get utilized to build hospitals/libraries/schools where we are certain that mosques are already in place? Anything stopping us from improverising our mosques for such purposes. Who will sell us Allah’s message from a contemporaneous perspective such that Islam will not be labelled unjustifiably as a religion for conscienceless radicalized zealots and a lot who rejoice in stagnation?
Who will be a rallying force to unite us, muslims from various sects, educational background, and ideological leanings, in the face of countless and damning challenges –spiritual, economic, political, educational etc.
Who will volunteer to wipe off some tears off the cheek of this meek creature wriggling in agony?

Second was the conversation between us about his family. He told me point blank that he was divorced. Reason being that the wife is the type who loves partying, girating, and really deep in fun seeking. He, on the order , being a conscious revert, will want none of that and has tried severally to make her change. This is one thing I noticed in that society :DIVORCE RATE IS REALLY REALLY HIGH.Yet, he took great pride in the fact that his sister embraced Islam through him and she was coming up gradually in her new found faith. Then the bombshell! He confirmed to me that due to a health condition, he could not really work. He called it hormonal imbalance issue and i could see balls of sweat gathering on his forehead then. Doctors will know what this means and if it is actually capable of draining one to the extent of barring one from work . Asked how he fends, he confirmed he was on government support of twelve hundred dollars monthly. All this while , always punctuating it with Alhamdulillah...Alhamdulillah! I felt within me I was not grateful to Allah enough!
Islam for Muslims / My Experience While In Newark by ossyme(m): 4:06pm On Jul 23, 2015
Alhamdullahi! Ramadaan is over! May Allah accept this from us all as an act of Ibaadah!
As admonished by the Prophet( SAW), we all should strive to fast six days in this month of Shawwal so we can earn the reward equal to a year's fast!
I was on a training in NEW YORK and had to stay at The RIVERIA Hotel ,having tried to get a muslim brother/family to stay with to no avail. It has a muslim Sudanese brother as the shop attendant who has stayed in the US for over decade. He understands English but I was always at liberty to converse with him in Arabic. The cyber cafe was also close to the shop and I do visit the cafe to surf the NET. On such occasion, his friend, a black American brother came visiting and we got talking. I asked him some questions and I got filled up with a ray of Imaan.

First, the direction he faced while praying Salaatul Maghrib was quite different from where I have had to face on his Sudanese friend guidance. When I asked him, he replied he was oblivious of the exact direction of the Qiblah and that Allah is not particular with your direction but your attention and submisssion. As an Omo Ile Kewu from Naija, i know it is part of the conditions for the validity of a prayer to face the Qiblah. As a mulsim, one should make conscious efforts to locate this before praying. However where one has prayed and faced a direction different from the Qiblah in error one is not bound to repeat such prayers. What amazed me was the depth of this brother's conviction, soft-spokenness, and the aura of tranquility around him . Anytime he talks, he punctuates it with Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah

Islam for Muslims / Please Give Advice on How To Start An Islamic School by ossyme(m): 12:25pm On Dec 09, 2014
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
It will be helpful if you can share insights into how you were (or one can be) able to set up your Islamic school, be it nursery, playgroup,KG,primary or secondary. I am quite sure this will go a long way in providing part of the needed motivation, guidance and direction for anyone willing to start up such. I, for one, have such lofty ambition given my affection for educational pursuit. But am still praying fervently to be able to. I will also suggest that brothers/sisters pool resources together to start something viable to curb the trend of poorly-run mushroom schools that sometimes are even a mockery of the Islamic model. Please share and you may, insha Allah, be the reason for the establishment of another enviable Islamic centre of learning.

Islam for Muslims / Celebrating 'eedul Fitr With Muslim Inmates In The Maximum Prison Kirikiri by ossyme(m): 8:03pm On Aug 12, 2013
Salaam!
My dear brothers and sisters in Islam, I wish to quickly narrate a fellow brother’s experience at the maximum prison in Kirikiri on ‘eed day. They went on a visitation to celebrate the festive period with the inmates and I can summarise the below from his experience:
 The mosque there was built through the influence of Al-Mustapha and all the labour handled by the inmates, from the architectural design to the painting, tiling etc. It is the biggest mosque in any prison in Lagos state.
 The raw statistics given by a muslim brother there gives the percentage of muslim inmates as 85%. Only 5% remain as muslims while others have converted to Christianity.
 The condition of the muslim brothers and sisters is that of palpable abandon. They are in need of clothing, food and basic medications.
 Some are even awaiting trial but with no lawyer while others were fined but with no one to come to their rescue.
 There is a UNIMAID lecturer of mathematics (with some other brothers) in there on allegations of involvement in Boko Haram. They have been there since 2009 and are not even allowed to intermingle, not even in the mosque.
 The atmosphere was above all relaxed and they had food in abundance to eat and there were even renditions of ‘waka’ in show of gratitude to Allah for witnessing the end of Ramadaan.

It will be highly desirable if Islamic organisations can show more involvement towards alleviating the plights of these muslim inmates. e.g Lawyers can come together to render free legal services.
Nairaland muslim community is also not left out!
Let us remember the noble saying of the dearest of all before Allah: Whosoever relieves someone a hardship, Allah will relieve same for him/her on the day of resurrection.

Romance / How To Marry A Rich Guy by ossyme(m): 10:00am On Jul 31, 2013
A letter from JP Morgan CEO To Gold Diggers

This might be the best thing I’ve seen in a while:

A reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan to a pretty girl seeking a rich husband

A young and pretty lady posted this on a popular forum:

Title: What should I do to marry a rich guy?

I’m going to be honest of what I’m going to say here.
I’m 25 this year. I’m very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above.
You might say that I’m greedy, but an annual salary of $1M is considered only as middle class in New York.
My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married?
I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you?
Among those I’ve dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit.
If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden(?), $250k annual income is not enough.
I’m here humbly to ask a few questions:

1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches are only average-looking? I’ve met a few girls who don’t have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys.
4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)
Ms. Pretty

A philosophical reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan:

Dear Ms. Pretty,
I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.
My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I’m not wasting time here.
From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.
Put the details aside, what you’re trying to do is an exchange of “beauty" and “money" : Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.
However, there’s a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can’t be prettier year after year.
Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It’s not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.
By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a “trading position".
If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term - same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or “leased".
Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.

signed,
J.P. Morgan CEO

Dear Nairalanders,

I will be glad if there is any Nairalander willing to assist me in the present ordeal of mine. I bought a vehicle from a resident of Joseph Avenue in Staten Island, New York around January this year.Car has been delivered to me but the guy in question did not release the shipping fees of $950 I paid along with the purchase price of the vehicle. I had to repay the shipping company myself once more. My money is still hanging with him and this guy will not pay me even after countless appeals.. I need someone who is based there I can give authority to t call on him
and meet him physically. I am really broke and i think this is the fastest means. All transfer evidence will be furnished to anybody willing to help me out.
Thanks.

Zhul Fikar, why don't you channel your energy towards actions that will be commendably anabolic? You radiate so much vigour in diffusing dissent and your actions are at best suboptimal.....Your brother,LagosShia, should advise you as you will only be able to subject Islam to further scorn. Let the pious predecessors rest in piece. Points or arguments as you have raised here are purely an exercise in futility. I do not also mince words to say extremism either by Shia or sunni should be shunned.
Tbaba, may Allah reward you copiously for your golden silence and safeguard us all from heresy.

May Allah's peace and blessings be upon our noble prophet and his companions.

Literature / Re: Bus Rapid Transit(BRT):Grammatical Error by ossyme(m): 1:17pm On Mar 06, 2013
Making mistakes can come from the best literate minds and this does not make it acceptable.
The guys who coined the acronym might have simply copied it from somewhere.
The fact that we are used to BRT does not make it sound simpler or sweeter.
RBT can still be adopted.
Literature / Bus Rapid Transit(BRT):Grammatical Error by ossyme(m): 1:00pm On Mar 06, 2013
May I ask my fellow nairalanders who are familiar with the acceptable arrangement of adjectives before a noun or a compound word if BUS RAPID TRANSIT(BRT)is grammatically acceptable:

Transit, as we all know, is according to The Free Dictionary by Farlex, defined below:
1. The act of passing over, across, or through; passage.
2.a. Conveyance of people or goods from one place to another, especially on a local public transportation system.
b. The system or vehicles used for such conveyance.

From the above, we have a word like public transit which is the same as public transportation.

The problem is that rapid, being an adjective, meaning fast or characterized with high speed, should not come in between ' bus transit'.

Bus Transit simply explains the means of transportation and 'rapid' should come first. It should be:Rapid Bus Transit

I am a product of a public secondary school in Lagos State and since this acronym ,BRT, is known all over Lagos and even seen as a noble model worthy of emulation by other states in Nigeria, I feel compelled to point this out.

Please feel free to air your opinion and I sincerely wish someone somewhere will bring this to the attention of Governor Raji Fashola.

Thanks.

Islam for Muslims / Re: Earnings From Bank Interests:How Does a Muslim Spend It? by ossyme(m): 2:00pm On Dec 12, 2012
Question:Is it permissible to spend money derived from 'HARAM' prohibited means e.g trading in alcohol, bank interest, stolen funds in the course of charity and donations to muslims.

Answer by DR. Faarooq Hammaadah, a professor of the faculty of arts at Muhammad Khaamis University, Ribat:
In the name of Allah,The Merciful,The Gracious.
May His peace and blessings be upon the Messenger OF Allah.
Any money earned through a prohibited means is not regarded as a possession under islamic law.It is not pure and should not be possessed.
This is also agreed upon by all muslims. Also, spending this money for noble deeds is prohibited. The Prophet (SAW):Surely Allah is pure and will not accept except that which is pure.Allah commanded the believers same way he commanded the messengers: Oh Messengers!Eat from the pure and do noble acts(Saheeh). Anyone who does not possess legitimate wealth is not mandated to spend, not even for Zakat. The logic applies to other voluntary acts.Anyone who comes across an illegitimate wealth, knows the original owner, should return same to the owner ,seeks Allah's forgiveness and repents. If he does not know the original owner, he should free himself from it by giving it to people who are permitted to consume dead animals i.e indigents who lack any means of survival. The reward will be for those who are the real owners and not the person who earns (takes possession of) it illegitimately. He should repent to Allah and seeks his forgiveness as Allah accepts repentance. Allah says in the QUR'AN:So Allah will differentiate THE FILTHY FROM THE PURE AND gather all the filthy altogether into hell fire)

Feel free to share your thoughts and views but note that this one topic has been discussed at conferences well attended by Eminent Islamic scholars from all over the islamic world.
There is no disagreement on the fact that these interests are haram ...but the question is where it is earned by a muslim ,,,,,,, how do you spend it?
Islam for Muslims / Re: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by ossyme(m): 3:41pm On Dec 02, 2012
Deols, i sincerely appreciate your passion and conviction. A prenuptial agreement that includes making unlawful or unacceptable what Allah in His infinite wisdom has made permissible is not binding in Islam. I personally have a not too good attitude of joining issues with those that i think are not firm on the podium of Islamic scholarship . But for my personal conviction of sister deola's sincerity, i will draw your attention to some few examples. The most binding of agreements are those that make legitimate intimacy between spouses, that is, marriage. The wife can for example ask as a condition before marriage not to stay too far from her relatives e.g. Someone who has an ailing parent to look after. If one commits a sin with a prostitute and before this you have agreed a price say to be settled on a later date, and you repent before the due date, do you know it is haram to honour such. Even if appears one has reneged on one's promise. Try to read up the circumstance surrounding the revelation of Surat tahreem wherein the PRophet (saw, may my parent be his fidaa) was directed by Allah to desist from making unlawful for his noble self what Allah has made lawful for him, out of desire to satisfy his wives. My dear sister, no one knows the morrow.if you will even be blessed with kids after marriage is a desideratum only Allah can grant. What of terminal illness, incapacitation, untimely death of husband. Pls do no tempt Allah with such prenup. And mind you as much as i have written here, i pray Allah afflict you not with any of these and make our nikah an oasis of endless bliss, aameen!
