Just last week, Tinubu listed ASI growth as an achievement and this week the market started falling. Is this a coincidence or the politicians doing their things because of election? |

aj8: Jaiz Bank
Most “colorful “ report. Earnings are not as colorful though. I thought they are paying dividend (11kobo) even though it is small. They are also paying higher than they paid the previous year - more than 50% more. This is better than not other banks (sterling, Fidelity, etc) that are not paying anything. |

EDUECO: Quite frankly, your message is filled with wisdom.
I think the current CBN management has not put the economic well being of the investors into consideration while formulating banking laws. That's another ugly face of this government's policy of always wanting to take from the people. Fuel price up, energy price up, tax up, and now the CBN is blocking the dividends that should go to the people for their investment. They want to say they don't know the market would react to this? Trump syndrome... "I didn't know Iran would retaliate..." blah blah blah

gabscity: Sir, even in a private estate I live here in Lagos, Solar Panels are not allowed, not sure why though, but this is the estate rule, if you are not comfortable with it, you have to move out, simple. Because the estate is probably selling electricity (NEPA+Gen) to you and most likely at exorbitant rates. Allowing solar will mess up their business. |

debeey87: Going forward, the CBN needs to put a cap on how much these guys can get from the bank even if they have the highest shareholdings. The CBN shouldn't allow them to borrow from the bank in perpetuity because they have the largest shareholding or are a director and end up writing it off using profit from the business in the guise of bad debts etc. I still don't understand why CBN would suggest or approve writing off insider debts with shareholders' money. Why should ordinary people be the ones paying off the debts of elites who live in Ikoyi mansions with properties and investments all over the World? This is another case of the elites/rich stealing from the poor. What efforts has the CBN made to get/force them to repay the loans? If this is not checked and stopped, it will become the norm across all banks. The directors will collect huge loans and not pay back... and then get written off with the money that should go to the ordinary shareholders. May be there is something I don't understand ... |

mikeapollo: You are one of the people who love to twist narratives to serve your interests, even in the face of obvious truth.
The Iranian regime, since 1979 under Ayatollah Khomeini , declared their ambition to wipe Israel off the surface of the earth. Netanyahu was not the PM of Israel at the time. Ayotallah Khamanei, since coming to power in 1989, continued the declaration and ambition to destroy Israel. Netanyahu was not the PM of Israel in 1989
You are quiet and silent on the unwarranted, irresponsible and reckless declaration and ambition by the Iranian regime to unleash bloodshed and kill Israelis living in Israel, exterminate them from this world by building nuclear weapons and sponsoring terror allies in Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis etc. Rather, probably by reason of high-grade anti-Israel mischief, you are now turning around to blame Netanyahu and accuse him of aiming to secure uncontested power in the middle east! How pathetic!
With the direction of your assertions in these matters, I would not be surprised if one day, you blame the leaders of Benue and Plateau and accuse them of fighting the Fulanis because they want to secure uncontested power in the middle belt! Iran didn't start the war. It was USA and Israel that attacked Iran (now twice) in the middle of negotiation thinking with their combined power they could pound Iran into submission. They were wrong and Iran has demonstrated not only resilience but also fire power that would make the USA think twice before foolishly joining any future attack on Iran. Iran suffered extensive destruction but so also the US and Israel. Most of the USA bases in the region were destroyed. many of their radars, Thaad systems, etc were destroyed. This is not to mention the air assets (AWAC, refueling aircrafts, etc) that were also destroyed. I have never seen US beg for ceasefire like this. The once untouchable is not now having his nose blooded by Iran. And you need to visit Israel to see the level of destruction there. Why is nobody jubilating in Israel after the ceasefire? |

If the living politicians and military personnels return 50% of their loot;Nigerian forex reserve can get up to 400 billion dollars within a space of 2 years. They would rather steal more than return... they are never satisfied. Only a radical revolution can quench their insatiable thirst. Dont think changing the political party or the person will change anything. It is a zero-sum game. |

Namaster: NO.
The purpose of the REINVESTMENT Clause is to RETAIN money in the NGX.
The way you explained it made it sound like Oyedele collected billions from Tinubu just to design a BIG, FAT and extremely obvious LOOPHOLE.
The tax law FIRST looks at individual transactions. Then AGGREGATE portfolio. Then what you did with ANY gains from that portfolio.
What that means in numbers
Scenario 1.
1. A first transaction of #100M Sales Proceeds from a #50M cost price. That's a potentially chargeable gain of #50M.
2. FULL REINVESTMENT.
3. That's EVERYTHING you did in the NGX that year of assessment.
Your tax liability related to CGT for that year would be ZERO.
Scenario 2.
1. A first transaction of #100M Sales Proceeds from a #50M cost price. That's a potentially chargeable gain of #50M.
2. FULL reinvestment.
3. Sold new acquisition of #100M at #100M.
4. Withdraw.
5. PAY TAX!
That's because the New Laws are applicable on NET GAINS. And for Net Gains to be a factor, you must be looking at a BIGGER picture, i.e, the portfolio.
So, first transaction has a gain of #50M. And you broke even in the second deal so made #0 gain or loss.
Net Gain for your portfolio would be #50M-#0 =#50M.
That #50M would be subjected to tax. The new law encourages reinvestment instead of withdrawal which is good for NGX. I see a massive growth coming over the next few years. |

awesomeJ: It's worked for him.
I don't know what he says in his "Making it Big" book o.
But what I know is that he sold forte oil at an excessive premium, plugged part of the proceeds to GEREGU, then pumped GEREGU from less than #200 to over #1100, and Forbes re included him in their billionaires list, not minding that his GEREGU assets were at inflated price.
Tony will probably be watching transcorp again.
Cos Otedola needs an avenue for this his new N1.1 trn loot. Sure he is looking for where and how to deploy the loot... make I hold my FBNH tight. |
Politics › Re: Death Penalty For Kidnappers, Terrorists Will Worsen Insecurity In Nigeria - FG by OsunOriginal: 9:53am On Dec 20, 2025 |
Sannisege: This is true because once victims see the faces of their kidnappers, they will definitely be killed because the kidnappers don’t want to face death penalty. The law should be that kidnapping attract 25 years imprisonment but if the victim dies in your custody, then the kidnapper gets the death penalty. Laws should not only punish the criminals but also protect the victims. Blanket law of death penalty on all kidnappers will only make the criminals more vicious and violent in an effort to cover their crime at all costs. Pedestrian reasoning... death penalty should then be removed for all offences, so it doesn't worsen the security situation. How many kidnappers were apprehended and convicted just because the victims saw their faces? |

Those guys (Trump and his minions) are looking to profit from our internal security crisis politically within the US and by extension financially. Trump is looking for countries to colonize and brag about. He tried it with Canada by imposing illegal tariff but they pushed back strongly. He has seen a crack (religion) in Nigeria he could exploit to destabilize the country. Unfortunately for him, he knows nothing about Nigeria and I am sure he never expected the kind of "gbasgbos" he has been getting from the US congress members, AU, etc. |

TargetT: Source
Nigeria has entered one chance, with the crisis niw labelled by US as "Genocide' and other developed economies siding with the US we will see the SANCTIONS starting to roke in soon.
Tinubu has lost all respect, even locally the Politicians are preparing for him to play his Political games, and some of them are prepared underground to surprise him, probably at the last minute. The Politicians are now doing underground campaign telling their supporters to wait for the Political party name, despite the fact that they currently belong to APC (so if Tinubu impose a candidate on some states, his formerly trusted allies are likely to depart APC. So let us wait and see the story like "the rise and fall of "TINUBU". And when the sanctions roll, the christians would be shielded from its effects? |

Good move... What does he want to achieve with all the senseless posts and noise? Turn the country upside down because of the fanatical ethnic clashes over land (painted as persecution against christians) as if the whole of Nigeria is Benue - a remote farming land which is not up to 1% of Nigeria. Isn't there a governor (a pastor) in Benue to report to? He wants agents of destabilization to destroy the country's economy and throw 240 million people into endless chaos. Chaos that would worsen the situation of the people the short-sighted illiterate thinks he is defending. |
