@op While SPSS can fetch you good money, you can make much more if you learn R and SAS. SAS is not free but you can download the University Edition which is more than enough for learning and carrying out common analyses. If you studied statistics or a related course and want to be a good statistician and not just a data analyst, then I will advise you learn R, SAS, STATA and SPSS. Once you are good in these, others like MINITAB, EVIEWS, STATISTICA, MATLAB will be very easy to use. Your statistics, however, must be very solid. You will make a lot of money on fiverr if you know how to use R and SAS.

A perfect analogy will be like using a calculator while not understanding maths. SPSS is nothing but a gigantic calculator. Understanding statistics gives it a meaning. Besides, how on earth will u know what statistical tool to use in spss, if you don't have an understanding what you want.

Shortcuts never works. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. But of course, it's your choice to make.

Seriously, that's why I pointed to basics. Like knowing that 2 variables require t-test/chi-square. And above Anova and so on. I didn't say not knowing anything at all. Regards
