Came across this on LinkedIn and want to share with you guys; From time immemorial, the need to earn an income and be rewarded for work done has been unchanging. So, humans have always put in place systems to ensure that every labourer gets their wage. There are, in fact, archeological evidence to show that, as earlier as 7000 BC, forms of payroll recordkeeping had existed – on stones. Even though it was not as we know it today, it was payroll. Those ancient ones initiated a vision bigger than them. Little did they know that their efforts would birth a slightly advanced form of payroll in 5th Century Greece, where payroll was taken to a grander level. Used to manage how much each workers earned and to keep financial records, the Greeks also carved and instituted their HR and Payroll processes in stone. The operation of these processes was in the hands of key officials of State in charge of the treasury. The Industrial Age Moved us Notches Higher As time went by, humanity advanced in possibilities and the boundaries of invention and creativity were almost literally shattered. And so, in the Industrial Age, what was believed to the great invention in HR and Payroll came to life. Truly, the times called for it: industrial production boomed in Europe, and the need to employ new hands was ever on the rise. As that need increased, so did the need to effectively keep and manage records. These records of employment and remuneration were kept in tandem with business records of sales and expenditure. HR and Payroll systems were egged on by the times, and in their eyes, theirs may have been the greatest payroll solution yet. Then the Big Deal If only they waited till the mid-21st century! If only they had experienced the game-changer – computers! Computers, those machines which were not as reliable and handy as they are today, transformed Payroll and changed the order of things in an accelerated fashion. (The change computers brought have even affected computers themselves!) In the 1950’s, they were merely deployed into clerical responsibilities, amongst which was Payroll. They became the warehouses of staff information and data. But payroll wasn’t yet where it ought to be. Today, HR and Payroll in the 21st century have evolved into a multi-billion dollar industry and indeed the possibilities therein are boundless. But even with computers, for some organisations, HR and Payroll have not been without their woes. Some organisations still maintain numerous paper trails; they ensure that workers sign and counter-sign several times before getting paid. In many cases, if the HR Manager is not available, all payments are stalled till such a person returns. That’s rather unbelievable in this century – the age of digital revolution! Where You Should Be In today’s business world, Human Resource and Payroll needs should no longer constitute a headache, as there are now advanced solutions that conveniently erase torturous experiences of the past and guarantee ease. "First of all, there is a desperate need for awareness on the part of the lawmakers. They need to understand the role a company like SystemSpecs or any other company can play in helping to create wealth and build solutions that can add value to our economy by creating awareness, I mean, giving them a good understanding of the interplay of how things work in the software space. So, you don’t wake up one day and open your mouth on the floor of the Senate and make very ridiculous statements. That is necessary, hence, there must be some form of engagement and that engagement can be through a seminar. Again, the problem about this is also that if you invite them to a seminar, the lawmakers will never show up. In the ISPON Dinner we just held, we had invited the Senate Committee Chairman and House Committee Chairman on ICT. They called us back, but they didn’t come eventually. Now, if the lawmakers had attended, they would have listened to the issues and the questions that arose at the event in and around local content. But they would never show up and even if they do, they will just spend about five minutes after which they would get up and leave. So, what are they going to learn? Is it when you now summon me to the House that you ask me to come and defend a memorandum that you will learn about the industry? We must remember that there is a problem with our civil service. It is no longer what it used to be – Think-Tank. So, for that reason, we need to engage and it is a continuous process. It doesn’t stop with one session. It is a multiplicity of sessions over time to raise the awareness level based on understanding and to make them see what they do as lawmakers and how those things impact on the industry either negatively and positively on the solutions that we develop at the end of the day. Remember, these solutions can be mobile solutions that would be consumed by people outside Nigeria for which you too might be user of that solution. My own challenge here is: ‘how do we raise the awareness level?’ be you senators and members of the House and make sure they don’t make such a dangerous statement on the floor of the House – like their clamour now for Remitta contract cancellation. How do we engage and what level of engagement do we build by coming up with an advocacy group that can help us provide some understanding on some basic things. Their current attitude tells me that if we, as a country, get a programme similar to, say NASA, after one accident, they would have just killed the entire programme. They wouldn’t see the end results and the long-term benefits of having such an organisation in place – the things we can learn from it; the things we can take home at the end of the day and resent as our small contribution to the development of our own environment." The report of the Senate Joint Committee on Finance and Public Account, which investigated the alleged fraud and mismanagement in the execution of the Treasury Single Account policy of government by SystemSpecs, indicated that Senator Dino Melaye goofed when he alleged that N25billion was paid to SystemSpecs for its services. Recall that on November 9th 2015, on the floor of the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye had alleged that a company which he had called Remita was collecting N25billion daily for rendering agency collection services – “for doing nothing.” The N25 billion commission was one percent of the N2.5 trillion allegedly remitted into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account project. However, for remitting government funds into the TSA, and its alleged collection of N25 billion commission being one per cent of the alleged N2.5 trillion it remitted into the TSA. According to section 6.1.16 of the senate report, “the committee could not ascertain the deduction/collection of twenty five billion (N25 billion) by SystemSpecs as 1% fee charged for the use of its Remita platform within the period under investigation.” Senator Dino Melaye and a number of other members of the legislature have made similar misleading statements in the past, which had misinformed the unsuspecting Nigeria public. It is left to be seen whether Senator Dino Melaye will apologize for misleading Nigerians. Someone should call our "distinguished" senator out on this matter! http://costlyignorance..com.ng/2016/02/dino-melaye-lied-on-n25-billionday.html |
hinwazaka:Tinubu ke?! How is he related of any of this? Stop displaying your sorry ignorance in public. |
The Nigerian Senate is a joke. The biggest reason why the Senate is useless is because it clearly does not reflect the will of the people at large |
You must be a registered user on Remita to do so, contact them at support@remita.net afuye: |
Ayatullah:He really deserves to be sacked. he was being used by the Senate to cover up their mess.. But they didnt show us that part of the hearing where he said there was no abuse of the TSA. Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bJYUG97ArY |
kayusely:Exactly my thought.. This video i saw on youtube is an exclusive that opens up their games. Remita has a valid contract https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkloMQzE7As |
Papasimi:What stupid vindication... The part of the hearing NGRSenate didn't show us - CBN approved the 1% fee being charged by Remita for TSA. (CBN Governor; Godwin Emefiele at the Senate hearing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbFAo-iNq0k |
TopCelebritiesM:He is not aware and still he acknowledged the fact that CBN signed the 1% fee with Remita? Emefiele is a GOONER! - Not Arsenal though |
Ayatullah:If you follow this video well.. you will even understand better that there is still a valid contract between CBN and SystemSpecs for use of its Remita platform; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOvhZ1s3sQM |

This is a positive move and good gesture from Mark. I believe it is a challenge to enormous profit-making organisations to rise up to. Africa and especially Nigeria have come of age and we should have companies like this that will emulate Mark’s gesture. Nigeria companies need to start giving back to their communities and not just declare profit. Thumbs Up Mark viviangist2: |
Is this not the same company involved in the Remita / Dino issue?! nawa ooo..Good for them. they have bigger plans. |
But where is the food tho? walejoel16: |
RushO2:The Remita payment thing is the directive of the federal Government, in line with the TSA initiative. My younger brother had the same issue, he wanted to get the receipt so he could present to his school after payment but he didn't know how to go about it. Someone at GTB asked him to send a mail to support@remita.net which he did and one of the guys there at Remita helped him out. so I suggest you send a mail to them. Hope this helps. |
