I've lived in N.Y now for about 5years and it saddens me. My first year here in highschool was a bit rocky.Didn't want to be here so I was really hostile to people around me. I finally, one day heard them pronounce the name of a Nigerian. I'm so excited because I've been surrounded by people of the carribean who of course bond because of where they're from. I'll never forget her, her name was Njidekah Olisah. Well anyway,I go up to her and i'm introducing myself. I asked her if she was Nigerian. You know what this girl said? "My mum's nigerian, but my dad is jamaican, so I'm jamaican" which kain jamaican with the name njideka olisah? i was outraged. I just looked at her and said okay and left with utter disgust. I must admit, she's not the first one, who has done it. The line. "My parents are but I'm not" When you're ass knows that you were born in isolo somewhere. I have another friend whose mother is south african and her father is from Rivers, she'll tell you she's South-African and not bat an eyelid. I see it everyday and it's sad. What do you guys think? |
mamba, spoken like a typical male. |
eyaaaaaaaaa. kenny. I'm sorry. Number one, is out there waiting for you to find her. As for me, Broken hearts. I think I always put myself in those situations. There was a guy that liked me, I really didn't feel him that much. I'm always feeling sorry and pitying people(wrong, stupid,I know, I was young and naive)Pressure from friends made me say yes. Now, I started liking his best-friend(like i said i was young n immature)and I broke up with him. For 4 months, this boy begged me. I said no. Karma's a bitch, his so-called best friend and I ended up dating and he broke up with me. The guy and I are still friends,he's actually my best-friend, but it was painful sha! Well, thank-you guys for allowing me share. |
I don't want to be a devil or anything but what's wrong with your man loving you for who you are and what you are. Him leaving you for a slimmer woman proves him SHALLOW.Am I right or am I right I mean, I'm all for staying trim, healthy and all that good stuff. But should someone be the reason you decide to loose weight? What happened to you? |
that shit better be every week or something. I will be grateful and he will be thanked in my own way lol |
I actually have an uncle with 50 wives and 72 kids(they are all biologically his( and this man is educated ooh! na professor and he knows all their names. When they have parties, there's no need to invite anyone else. What do you guys think of that? |
I think you guys are really being unfair to nigerian men.I think it would be better to say that they're not ALL romantic, but there are alot of them. I'm fortunate to be going out with one right now. I've truly been blessed. He's always there to listen, he writes me poems, I get thoughtful gifts(I'm not talking about the occasional birthday, christmas, anniversary gifts) I'm talking spurr of the moment and yes he was born and raised in Nigeria. |
I actually agree with sage, and a question for the "I WANT A VIRGIN" people, are you guys also virgins?and if you aren't why not? wouldn't it be hypocritical of you guys to want virgins when you yourselves aren't or have taken the virginity of someone? |

I go to a redeemed church here in New-York and I have to say, I never experienced tribalism back home in Nigeria until I got here. The church is pre-dominantly Yoruba and there's always fighting. My father's Yoruba and my mum is from Edo state. I sometimes get caught in the middle of all this. They call every one not Yoruba "Igbo", they make life miserable for the none Yoruba's.This is church ooh, church. |
It actually does have something to do with the religion of Vouda or voodoo as it is called and yes it interfers with religion. It's like palm reading, you ask it a question and it replies. Helps contacts dead spirits and all of that stuff. (don't ask me how i know I just don't see any need for it. |
Hello, Like everyone here, I too am a bibliopath, I cannot live without books and it is very true how rich our culture is. There are up and coming authors that I'm sure you'll enjoy. The celebrated purple hibiscus by chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is one Icarus Girl by Helen Oyeyemi Shakara Dance-hall Queen by Tess Osonye Onwueme(actually made into a series on BBC) What mama said and Tell it to women, also by her are very good and of course, Windsong by our dearly loved May Ellen Ezekiel. There are so many books. It really makes my heart sing when I see people enriching themselves with positive material. |
Their new album is set to come out in december of 2005. They were in England and performed(I heard)their new hit single. They'll also be touring the u.s in the spring of 2006, looking really forward to that. |
I feel extremely proud of this young 19year old nigerian. Nigeriand are being reecognized for their work(other than the famous Achebe and Soyinka) There's another good author also young, Helen Oyeyemi(I believe) wrote Icarus girl. I highly recommend the book |
lol
I just don't see any need for it.
