There is no tax on fuel sales in Nigeria

Oga why do you think we remain poor as a nation? Isn't it the way we keep holding ourselves back? Dangote said he is taking away the easy money that many cabals in the oil value chain have been making for years and he does not expect them to pray for him.

Since when do Nigerians bother about quality products, with all the substandard products that our importers go to Chaina and ask them to make for us? Dangote refinery can survive without Nigeria. Many of the big refineries in Singapore and Europe are situated in countries that don't produce a drop of oil. So unless we have a government that is serious about us processing our oil and not exporting it and importing refined products then maybe that's where we will head. One thing is for sure. Nigerians can't kill a private man's refinery like they killed the government owned ones.

Dangote that is already exporting his fuel to some ECOWAS countries and Europe is the same somebody is telling us is making sub-standard fuel
It's government's choice to see what benefits the country the most if local companies supply us and keep profits here with their workers transacting in our economy or they want Nigeria to import and support the businesses and workers located in other countries

IMO, the bolded is the issue we have as a nation.

EVERY individual or business has a phase of baby steps: that does not mean that someday they will not walk and eventually run.
No business hits the ground running without adequate support.

What Dangote has done (building a refinery of that capacity) goes beyond what most Nigerians can fully understand.

There is an endless list of home-grown businesses that had life snuffed out of them BECAUSE we wanted quality from foreign countries.

Those foreign quality products once started poorly too... wink

Many people don't know what advanced countries had to endure before they developed their admirable technology and economic power today.
USA had to fight a war to assert the right of American products to be protected from higher quality and cheaper European manufactured products. The southern aristocrats rich from slavery preferred European products over low quality local substitutes and they opposed high tariffs. The slavery issue was the flash point but not the main motivation from the North that was getting industrialised

China did not waste her foreign exchange to finance luxury imports for her citizens when they started. The head od state said let the people walk on the 2 legs if they can't afford cars, and use their steel even of low quality until the Chinese learnt how to make high quality steel. Today China produces over 50% of total world steel output and export cars all over the world

Development doesn't come cheap or while everything is at your beck and call except you discover natural resources to provide funds far beyond your population.

In the 70's Nigeria needed to export 25-30 million barrels of oil daily to earn per capita what the Saudi or UAE is earning. But we attempted to do what are doing with our 2m barrels.
Today for us to match up with them in terms of per capita earnings we need to export 70m barrels daily but we only do 1.3m barrels and some still believe if politicians stop stealing oil money we will be living like Saudi

Saudi is doing 12m barrels daily while UAE is doing about 3m barrels daily

Total world oil export market is 110m barrels of oil daily, and Nigeria needs to supply 70m out of it to earn like Saudi grin

I don't know why they fear Northerners so much.

The same thing they did when Northern soldiers killed their brother Adekule Fajuyi.

Instead of confronting north and ask why they killed their brother, they changed the story to Adekule Fajuyi asked Northern soldiers to kill him together with Ironsi.

Now imagine if he was killed by Eastern soldiers and they were told he asked them to kill him.

Yorubas did nothing to Ibos after junior Ibo Army officers killed Premier of Western region Ladoke Akintola, Brigadier Ademulegun and Col Shodeinde.

Maybe you are craving that Yorubas should have revenged on Ibos instantly. But they did not

Magnetic010:
If this Dangote refinery doesn't in any way reduce the price of petroleum products in the country then it is of no benefit to the common man....

Even if it is slightly more expensive it is better for the economy that such huge value is being added to our local raw materials, and that Nigerians will start having refinery experience that can translated to other petrochemical industries, increasing the local talent pool.

The number of service industries to support the refinery in Nigeria is numerous and will benefit the economy with new knowledge that can be used to develop other sectors in steel fabrication, spare parts production, chemical input factory, consumables like gloves, goggles, safety shoes, safety hats, and services to the workers.

All these activities would have been domiciled in the host country of the refineries that have supplying us with billions of liters of fuel in the last 30 years

I thought gas flaring has stopped. Why the flaring? Can't it be converted to a useful purpose? I understand gas flaring produces excessive carbon monoxide (CO) which destroys ozone layer leading to global warming.

the refineries that supply the 50m liters offuel we consume per day, don't they have their own flares sending the carbon monoxide to the same ozone layer?
Difference is while they are productive you are consumers
Now you are envious that a fellow Nigerian is becoming productive and taking over foreign productivity

This is the type of statement one would expect from a citizen of the country whose refinery would lose Nigeria's fuel business

No one has problems with this except mischief makers.

However, just as in Hausa or Igboland, every citizen has a home state where his forebears come from or state of origin. It would not be good for someone from another state irrespective of belonging to same Ethnic group to deny an indigene opportunity to aspire for governorship in his home state due to the fact that his mom or wife is from another ethnic group.

Is is the high of sheer wickedness! Tinubus son wife's is from Anambra state. Would you deny him of being a governor if he come s to aspire as Osun or Lagos governor just because he married from the Igbo nation? mba nu ooh

Gas in Nigeria will flow freely when it's being used to improve the living standards of the real owners and not when it's being used to inflate the pockets of the fulani oligarchs and their agbadorian cousins..
