One thing I have come to realize in this country is that once the igbos are involved in any political issue, common sense becomes uncommon. The fact that up till today, with all the vociferous religious leaders and so called detrablised statesmen brimming all over the place, none has been able to sit down and categorically condemn all the Evil that were willfully perpetrated against the igbos in the name of fighting a war is stunning! Peoples hard-earned properties and cash were brazenly stolen while they were still alive by the government of a country that will turn around and demand unalloyed loyalty and patriotism from them! Isn't that wonderful?

I can understand the game plan of PDP. They are very desperate to take over power from APC. From every indication, APC is going South, PDP will go north. And with that, it is game over for APC because PDP will defeat them base on the hand writings on the wall.

Yes, the Igbos have stuck with the PDP since inception. They have remained loyal to PDP much more than any tribe or region. If they demand the ticket as a compensation for their loyalty, they are not demanding too much at all. But at THIS point in time, if PDP decides to field an Igbo man now just to please the igbos, they will lose based on obvious political calculations.

The best bet for PDP and the easiest route for an Igbo man to be President is to allow someone like Atiku to pick the ticket while an Igbo man will serve as his VIce. Upon completion of his 8 years tenure, his vice, an Igbo man can then aspire to be President.

The most important thing is to snatch power from APC by all means possible now. My submission.

And who told you northern PDP will not betray SE after 8 years as you are sure northern APC will betray SW APC in 2023?

You tried to sound intelligent and enlightened but you didn't quite pull it off. If you think this is about any 5n or no 5n then you are not seeing the bigger picture. Its about the ricochet effect that it will have on the already struggling masses! Same as whatever increment of fuel price they are proposing. Those guys do not know how to manage funds. They are not accountable. What have they done with all the billions that was at their disposal that the next 'solution' to Nigeria's problems lies in this so called 5n they want to impose on soft drinks? Mr white man that has refused to howl, probably if we had been howling sooner, the situation would not have deteriorated so far. A little accountability on what has been done with past revenues so we don't keep pouring our resources in a leaking basket!

Learn that in a free market environment prices always respond to changing market conditions. 5 naira is 3 percent of the retail price of soft drinks at 150. It was 50 then 100 sometime ago. If 200% incraese has not killed us what will 3% do?

Nigeria has one of the lowest tax collection rates in the world, we do 6% while Ghana does 16% Egypt and South Africa do 25% all from their economy. We can either chose to remain in the league of poorly run countries with low tax collection rate or move up the league and grow.

Bring your competent leader and i tell you for free he will succeed if he doesnt collect taxes. The oil we depend on that made us ignore taxation is going and can no longer sustain us. It's worth just 200 naira daily for each Nigerian.

So the government, this government cares for your health and they budget nonsense for health and loot it behind, which is the reason aso clinic doesn't have paracetamol etc some times? Hahahahah...

I like how many of you are like frogs in boiling water eing boiled to death and each time you find ways to make excuses for wickedness and evil.

When Buhari became president all he did was gradually but surely hand over almost all the security apparatus to his kinsmen by geographical area and many people down South applauded him, even romanticised the man's dangerous appointment pattern. Now he is about to go only for people to now clearly see the havoc the man has wreaked.

Keep making excuses for them. Someone raised a valid point but you rebuffed it and provided a sound medical reason for the government taxing fizzy drinks. For your information, Dangote has it easy in a lot of his business ventures. He is clearly a "government pikin".

The Nigerian government cares. Buhari cares... Chris Ngige cares. The finance minister cares. Emefiele cares. They all care.... hahahahahaha....

Oga ethnic appointment champion, every ethnic group will pay this tax like any national tax in any part if the world and when you ethnic man becomes the leader he will meet the tax funds there let's see if he will reverse it.

Since 1999 4 presidents met VAT and other excise duties and they did reverse it because they are from your ethnic group.

If Dangote can be govt pickin and favoured under Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan and Buhari, is it not time you evaluate your life and how you engage the world to see ethnic bigotry can't deliver real favour to you?

Good thinking. Those NA folks seem to have nothing better to do than think up ways to raise the suffering index of Nigerians! That's how they played politics with rice production up until rice and groundnut oil and even bread are now out of the reach of the common man. Carbonated drinks which used to sell for 100n now go for 150n still yet, they won't leave it alone! They will not look for constructive ways to add value but keep reaching for unintelligent and low hanging fruits. Pstcheew

5 naira is now too much to pay to be added to healthcare funds. Will the 5 be going to Buhari account after he leaves office?

Oga, there is nowhere on earth where LPG is 'manufactured', please. Methane, butane and propane occur naturally as a mixture known as natural gas. Processing seperates the natural gas into its contituents, from where we get LPG (butane and propane mixture).
Despite your writeup there, i am still convinced that there is what government can do to make the product more affordable. The government is wholly responsible for costs arising from VAT on imported gas and exchange rate adjustments, so they can tinker with that for a start. Do you need more?

Processing and blending is what sir using multi million dollar equipment?

We are not talking of picking stones out of beans.

VAT on imported LPG is the position of the tax law every dealer was aware of 2-3 years ago. Locally produced LPG are still tax exempt, but why is it not selling cheaper? Simple law of demand and supply in a deregulated market.

If you have the acumen and better idea on how to supply LPG at cheaper price to the market, this is your chance to hit it big.

Even if he is not the one setting the price, as long this is our own resource, there should be subsidy for the masses because the hardship is unbearable for the masses. Again, this is one of the conditions IMF gave him based on the loan your master collected.

Lapako, suegbe, the LPG you are importing from the manufactures is your own resources?
What of the steel, aircraft and cars you import from all over, they are also your resources?
How can anyone be this dumb? Go and scoop LPG from under the ground now since it's your resources.

LPG is not 'manufactured' as you put it, but obtained from processing natural gas by liquefaction and separation. And, lets not be deceived, Nigeria actually exports LPG, while at the same time importing to augment local supply in a manner that defies logic!
Finally, gas price including lpg surged globally in 2021 no doubt, but no one should be decieved into believing that there is nothing the federal government can do to make the product a bit more affordable for Nigerians, especially considering it is a product produced locally.

If you understand the meaning of manufacturing you will not say that. Neither propane nor butane occur naturally, they must be separated from natural gas in columns costing millions of dollars using expensive catalyst. Then they must be blended together to create LPG.

The complexity of the commercial contract that makes it possible to export LPG from the NLNG is not what Buhari can change by fiat. They have done what is possible by requesting the company dedicate more output to the domestic market. Locally produced LPG is not even subject to VAT which is supposed to be an incentive to local producers and jobs. There are many gas projects that will come on stream this year to ameliorate the situation. However the era of cheap LPG may be long gone worldwide

False, LPG is a manufactured product and does not occur naturally
Its components propane and butane must be separated in complex gas processing plants or from very expensive oil refinery or LNG plants.

We don't supply LPG to other countries we rather import to augment out local production.

Dangote refinery will produce LPG as by products and the ongoing train 7 NLNG plant will increase domestic production but it will still be sold at market prices but will benefit from no VAT policy on locally produced LPG

MURIC Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

The Muslim Rights Concern has urged the Nigerian Government to declare the first of Muharram Hijrah, which is the first day in the Islamic calendar, as a public holiday to favour Muslims.

MURIC Director, Prof Ishaq Akintola, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Prof. Ishaq Akintola, Director of MURIC

According to Akintola, the New Year celebrations according to the Gregorian calendar was “unfair, unjust and undemocratic” to Muslims in Nigeria.

He stated that if the Nigerian Government failed to properly recognise the first day of the Muslim calendar as it has recognised the Christian calendar, it should stop declaring New Year holidays.

Akintola said, “As usual, the Federal Government declared January 1, 2022, a public holiday in recognition of the first day of the Christian Gregorian calendar but because the day fell on a Saturday, FG created an alternative by declaring the following Monday a public holiday.

“This is an aberration and a gross injustice because Nigerian Muslims have been demanding the declaration of the first day of the Islamic calendar as a holiday for more than 20 years to no avail.

“It simply means that FG under President Muhammadu Buhari is also supporting the Christianisation of Nigeria. It considers the first day of the Christian calendar as sacred while the first day of the Islamic calendar is regarded as unimportant.

“MURIC frowns at this lopsided arrangement. It is unfair, unjust and undemocratic. We demand an immediate review of FG’s holiday policy.

“We demand the declaration of the first day of the Islamic calendar as a holiday to justify the 1st January holiday that is declared annually by FG. January 1 holiday is a Christian colonial creation designed to dignify and rubber-cushion the pomp and pageantry of Christmas. In the interest of peace, FG should review this Christian colonial heritage.

“Nigeria became independent 62 years ago and 62 years is long enough to right wrongs perpetrated by the British slavemasters. Democracy is fraudulent without equal participation, equal rights and justice.

"We demand parity now and only the recognition of the first day of the Islamic new year can balance the equilibrium and ensure parity, justice and fair play.

“Holidays are part of the dividends of democracy. However, the dividends must not be dished out in a selective manner."
