@owenjay.
, because you have a good job and come to the uk yearly, , you will never understand why some people travel to other 'better' parts of the world.
till (God forbid), you lose your job, and theres nobody to help you, no job, no money, no friend, no hope, the only thing left for you will be to relocate, then you will understand. grin

IMHO, where you are now, is where God wants you to be. if you are in nigeria today and having no problem, it is because God planned it that way. if in london or new-york today, that is where you are meant to be.

so just enjoy yourself where you are. grin
Anusule,

I sincerely get your drift. My worries are for those with decent and well paying jobs and who turn their heels on the jobs and emigrate from the Country.

See my introduction to the thread below:

There is the general parlance that there is nowhere like home. It makes me wonder why People with decent means of livelihood abandon the Country in search of better opportunities in Europe and America.

Life as a second class citizen in a foreign land can be tasking.

Please share your sincere experience with intending Emmigrants. You may be saving a soul.

Folks,

Your comments have been very enlightening. It's a case of different strokes for different folks.
But one thing that is inalienable in this, is that no matter how British you are, the whites still look at black people as second class citizens and usurpers.

When I see Africans on the streets of London doing menial jobs, it reminds me of what Ghanaians were to Nigerians in the early 80s before they were sent back to their country during the "Ghana must go era". Those days, we used to have them as handymen, househelps, shoemenders (not makers) and mobile Tailors.

Thank God Ghana is out of the doldrum as a result of their never-say-die spirits and visionary Leadership.

Nigeria, will indeed, fly again. The Current President has started well unlike Former President Obasanjo, who played lip service to economic development throughout his 8 years in Government.

So do not give up on the Country.

As a travel advisory, for those of you mothers with Children born and bred in Britain, your hubbies and children will go back with fond memories if they stay in the Cities. You can pay visits to the Villages on weekends for them to have a feel of your roots.

Because of lack of basic infrastructure in most of our Villages, a first time visitor to Nigeria will draw conclusion that we still duel in the mediaeval times. I am sure that is the impression the Almonds left Nigeria with.

But I must tell you, Nigeria is it. Get a good education, get a good grade from school and leave the rest to God. Good jobs will always come.

A fresh graduate earns a minimum of =N=1.5million in the least paying bank in Nigeria. My bank pays =N=2million.

The issue is more complicated than you make it seem. I like short skirts and skimpy clothes and have lot of guys around me but i know that getting guys is not my mission. I dress that way because I like it.
Michelin,
In as much that I'd wish to agree with you on you clothings preference, why on earth would a Lady want to expose more than necessary.

To any male, the Breast of a woman, is first an foremost, a sexual object. It may connote an object of suckling if the lady is a nursing mother.

A guy that sees you breast accidentally, will inadvertently keep that image in his memory for a long while. And would always long to touch it. This is what eventually gives rise to rape. A case of cause and effect.
How comfortable are you in skimpy clothings? Do you take note of men peeking at you and taking a second look at you on the Streets?

How do you feel about the stealthy looks? Do you think its because of their admiration of your beauty?
If the truth be told, the gawking is not out of admiration but out of disdain. They enjoy the sight but they will never wish that their girlfriends or sisters dress likewise.

I feel a woman should be decently dressed, even if she has "wares to sell" if you know what I mean.

Efuah,

Greetings

TravelRe: Nigerians In The UK Are So Stingy by owenjay(m): 10:58am On Jan 30, 2008
This is my perspective on this. I believe we in Nigeria are better off than Nigerians in the UK.
The reasons are:

The real value of the disposable income of an average person resident in Nigeria is more than those resident in UK. In Nigeria, People can afford to avoid tax through Tax Management or evade tax altogether without consequence; We can afford, without penalty, to evade the payment of Utilities like Electricity and Water; Accomodation is relatively cheaper except you leave in Lagos, where rent is way up the sky.

These are luxuries they dont have in the UK

We are our brothers' keepers. We can afford, without qualms, to bail one another out of financial need.

And after paying for our monthly expenditure which includes money for the upkeep of your parents and sibblings, which we disburse on monthly basis, we can still save up a minimum of 20% of our Net pay.

So do not begrudge our brothers and sisters in the diaspora. I am sure if the Governments of their countries of residence cut them the kind of slacks our Government cuts us in Nigeria, they will be able to do more.

And for you "Flashers" a word or two of esperance to them can be soothing.
Call them, not flash them. A minute call to UK is =N=48 on Glo Networks.

A Two minute chat with your loved ones abroad is not too much.

And always bear it in mind that they work harder than you with little or no leisure.

owenjay,
you are very correct again smiley
life out here is notas rosy as people back home think.well,i am a british as well as a nigerian citizen. i came here after my first degree in nigeria.i have seen people who get here illegally and are regretting the day they ever thought of leaving Nigeria.
For now i'm here to earn a living, but will i go back home to nigeriahuh you bet i will. i have a fairly good job,my husband has a great job too,but that's not to say that we did not have better potentials in Nigeria. As i'm talking to you,i know someone who came here from nigeria illegally.she got friendly with a guy who stays in a council flat.things went sour bw them and the guy reported her to the police, saying she is came in illegally and all that.now the cops are hot on her trail.life has been bad for her.she now lives by handouts from the few nnigerians she has met so far.it's only a matter of time before she's caught and the rest will be history.
the disheartening thing is the way the guys get here.i lost a classmate in 2005 who entered a container and hope to get to Germany or europe alive.
My husband is a staff of an oil company with offices in nigeria.his colleagues who were sent here on STAs or some sort of posting were lamenting when they were due to leave after spending 4-6 years here. They barely had any savings.

anyway, there is one thing i enjoy here-order,24hrs power supply, when you pay tax,you see benefits,no fuel queues or scarcity. one advice i'll give here is: if one can live comfortably in nigeria, please stay put. wink

owenjay have i helped you? hope i have. Enjoy your evening.
Amsky,

Thanks a million. You've really being of immense help. God bless you.

Amsky,

Thanks for dropping a note. I will however, like you to share your experience with me.

I am not planning to leave Nigeria for good. I am a Chartered Accountant and a Middle Mgt Staff in a Bank in Nigeria

I travel to London yearly on vacation. The tale one hears and the living conditions of so many Nigerians abroad leaves much to be desired.

Very many Africans, who have not travelled out of their Countries oversea, believe that London and North American streets are paved with Gold. That one can practically pluck money on Trees.

I know it is not so.
I know that there are so many People as we speak that are willing to walk through the desert of Morroco and swin the Mediteranian to get to Spain. That is why I feel we owe them, as people that are living abroad to Share our Experiences with them.

My Parents were in London between 1962 and 1970. My Elder sibblings were born in London and they currently reside there.
I have the good fortune of being the first Child among my sibblings born in Nigeria and I dont have any other Passport other that the Green, and believe me, I am proud of it.

Your contribution will therefore, be invaluable.

It very predictable that nobody will want to share his/her experience with us.

Everybody wants the next person to take a leap in the dark.

For those of you abroad, know that you have an opportunity to relate your experiences- good/bad so that other can learn from it.

But if you decide to keep silent, please know that your silence is not golden

lol owenjay, u're teaching me o grin

i agree with u buddy, i perfectly understand your point, but not all women are like u think. There are real decent women around, n i wldn't say it's poverty that lead such women into that, cus there's always an alternative. Some women simply choose to live their lives like that cus to them, it's fun. . . whilst some will see it with an evil eye.

Like u're asking for the difference btn a prostitute and a smthng smthng, . . . we have different types of whores/prostitues. . . . but i blame it all on men grin (men in da hse, bite me o, if u can tongue) If men would learn to do things for free, some women will also learn to put their pants on grin

Am not in anyway defending such women, am only trying to tell u that some of this women do such act with pain. . . not their choice undecided.
Efuah,

Thanks a million for your contribution.

Let me give you an inlet into a typical guy's life.
Apart from facial attraction, what attracts a Man to a Woman is that thing in-between her legs. An average Man looks at a woman and fantasises on what she would look like in the Nude and on his bed. (Confirm from any Man.)

Some Women go about exposing the cleavage in between their breast in the name of Fashion. An average Man does not only see the Cleavage, he pictures the size of the Breasts the length of the Nipples.

When a Man says I love you, what he is saying is I want an opportunity to have an intercourse with you.

What Ladies should endeavour to do is to be discerning enough to know that a Man that asks for Sex within two weeks of meeting them is not looking at marriage but the sexual satisfaction to be derived from the affair. And when he has "eating" to his heart desire, he dumps the Lady and looks for another Lady to conquer.

mmmmm?
Who is the architect of it all? na man or woman? I don't think you will see it anywhere apart from prostitues joint that a woman is bargaining like sey. . . man, buy me recharge card n i will give u sex Seen some before? You men don't want to do anything for free . . . making this so called "low self esteem ladies" to fall victim of ya prey!! I wldn't sleep wt a man for anything material in this world, haba! Grace, favour n blessing comes from God If not for love, then forget it.

The short n long of my noise is that. . . . men made some women who they are!!![/table
][/table]

Efuah,

How do you differentiate between a Prostititute and a Straight Lady among the womenfolks? I work in a Bank and live is Asaba, Nigeria.
Some of my colleagues on branch vistations, calls a friend who pronto, makes available some University girls for overnight sexual pleasures.
Granted, I am in relationships myself, but how on earth does a decent girl sleep with a Man she has just set her eyes on for the first time?
How do you enjoy love making with such a strange fellow.
Its high time women stood up for themselves by ensuring minimum standard of sanctity in sexual relationships.
Sexual intercourse gives a man a feeling of conquest over the woman. The Vagina is supposed to be so sacred that it should not be opened for every Tom, Dick and Harry to have unfettered access to.

The Penis is an external organ. It is like the Skin. However, the Vagina is inside the Woman. It Shares cavities with other intestinal organs. Allowing a man you dont love to insert his thing inside of you is like allowing the man to cut open your abdomen and insert his hands into your intestine.
Sexual relationship must be based on love.

TV/MoviesRe: What Can Be Done To Improve Nigerian Movies? by owenjay(m): 4:27pm On Jan 24, 2008
Seun,
I consider it a waste of time watching Nigerian Movies. Don't get me wrong, it has absolutelynothing to do with patrotism. Most of their so-called scripts are plagiarised hollywood scripts and you are able to decipher their storylines even from the beginning.

To improve film production in Nigeria:

1. Proper research of the movie.
2. Proper research of roles
3 . Proper interpretation of roles
4. Less annoying Adverts.
5. Audible dialogue and good diction. Not faking oyinbo's accent in a Nigerian Film.
6. Good language construction. They are reading from scripts for crying out loud.
7. To ensure that Actors cast for important roles and real thespians, not Cut and roll Actor.
An idiot can act to a Clapperboard. Our Actors should go on Broadways. That is Theaters.
Theatrical Acting makes a good TV Actor.
Most of the big name in Hollywood started their careers in the Theaters and when they are not on the Big Screen, they still go back to the Broadways to sharpen their acting Skills.

8. We should stop applauding mediocrity. Sheer population and the number of humongous bad quality films be churned out from Nollywood does not itself rank it along Hollywood and Bollywood. Nollywood still has a long way to go.

9. Good post-production editing is a sine quanon.
Dating And Meet-up ZoneWomen and low self-worth by owenjay(op): 3:48pm On Jan 24, 2008
[b]My heart bleeds when I see the way Ladies are treated. Women now give themselves at =N=100 per dozen that Men no longer see them as potential Wives but object of sex.
Some women even bare it all for a =N=500 Recharge Card.

Must every relationship between a Man and a Lady be predicated on Sex alone? What ever happened to good old friendship.
I am a guy and I have had my fair share of Women but most of my closest friends today are women.
I find them as better friends and confidants than Men.
Do not get me wrong, it is not as if I am not in one or two sexual relationships. Before we ever went sexual, we were friends and when we mutually decided to go back to being platonic, the transitions were easy. Virtually all my Ex. are my best friends today and we treat one another with respect because they were above board while the relationships lasted.

Can we therefore be friends without sexual benefits? Or must every boy-girl relationship end in Sex?
