Needless attack on the Judiciary, Secondus seeks sanction on Buhari, Attorney General ........Commends US. UK for standing for democracy. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has commended the United States and the United Kingdom for standing up for democracy through their strong cautionary statement that would encourage and enhance free and fair election in Nigeria. Prince Secondus said that the position of the two nations is a huge boost for the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria given the rigging body language being displayed by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the general election. But the National Chairman in a statement from his media office signed by Ike Abonyi, said they should go further in their threat and order sanctions against this government because the rigging has already started with the brazen attempt to force out the Chief Justice of Nigeria CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen and install a 'friendly and amenable' person that would help them manipulate the electoral process. Prince Secondus said that the illegal action of the government under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the federation Mallam Abubakar Malami SAN, to intimidate, harass and throw away Justice Onnoghen is a foundation for election rigging. "Because of their plot to manipulate the electoral process and being unable to face the legal consequences of such action from an independent judiciary, they have gone ahead brazenly to malign and discredit the Judiciary. The National Chairman said that the global democratic watchers like the US and the U.K. should take a copious interest in a government that goes out to destroy other arms of government on their way to destroying all ingredients of democracy. Prince Secondus recall the 2016 breaking in of the homes of Judges and Justice at the dead of the night and the August 8, 2018 attempt to hijack the legislature by using security operatives to block the gates of the National Assembly and says that all are signs to cage democratic process in the country. The National Chairman said that the contributions of these two nations to the development of the democracy in our land is enormous and they should not just stay and watch it being destroyed by a government that is not disposed to democratic norms. "The signs are apparent of the anti-Democratic posture of this government, none observance of the rule of law, disregard to court orders and the limiting of free speeches and arbitrary use of security agents to concoct and frame up perceived enemies. Prince Secondus said that election rigging is not limited to Election Day activities only pointing out that the APC has already set the machinery in motion with all efforts to weaken and intimidate critical players. The National Chairman said that in the coming days ahead of the election, special attention should be paid to the activities of some APC stakeholders in Abuja, Lagos, and Kaduna including two serving Ministers who are part of the nefarious APC rigging machine. A man, Abdullahi Yada’u, has divorced his wife after failing to convince her not to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in next month’s presidential election. Mr Yada’u, a resident of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, told BBC Hausa Service on Thursday that he divorced his wife, Hafsat Suleiman, because she insisted on voting for Mr Buhari. The president is seeking re-election on the platform of his party, APC. Mr Yada’u stated that previously, both of them supported Mr Buhari in the 2015 elections. But this time, he felt disappointed with the administration and decided not to vote for him again, he said. “I told her that she must not vote for him but she insisted which led to a quarrel which attracted the attention of our neighbours, I slapped her and told her to choose between voting for Buhari and staying with me. She ran away. “Later her parents called me and I narrated to them what transpired between us. But still my wife insisted on voting for Mr Buhari, that’s how I divorced her in the presence of her parents.” Ibrahim Suleiman, the wife’s elder brother, said they felt very sad over what transpired between the couple. We decided to deal with him but our father stopped us from joining issues with him, he told the BBC. “He really disgraced us. They have been having issues even in the previous election. She is the one that convinced him to vote for Buhari, now he insisted on voting for Mr Atiku Abubakar. We decided that we will not allow her to go back to him again,” he said. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday, urged Nigerians to help President Muhammadu Buhari go back home to rest. He said the electorate can ensure this through their votes on February 16, date for the presidential election. Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will slug it out with former vice president, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and other candidates. In a lengthy statement made available to DAILY POST by his media team on Sunday, Obasanjo also expressed hope that Buhari will allow the conduct of a free and fair exercise. The statement titled “Points or concerns and actions” reads in part: “Nigeria must appreciate Buhari for the little he has done and allow him to depart for home in peace if he allows free, fair, peaceful and credible elections, we must also tell ourselves that Nigeria deserves better at this point in time than what Buhari is capable of offering. “History will note that he has been there. Nigeria now needs a man with better physical and mental soundness, with an active mind and intellect. “Let me say again that Nigeria belongs to all Nigerians and exists for the benefit of all Nigerians and non-Nigerians who desire to live or do business in and with Nigeria. “The attitude of “it is my turn and I can do what I like” with impunity will not last because Nigeria is created by God and it will outlive all evil machinations and designs against the overall interest of Nigeria.” Source;http://dailypost.ng/2019/01/20/buhari-vs-atiku-nigerians-feb-16-obasanjo/ |
