Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Laptop Port For Connecting Receiver by owokasib: 2:48pm On Feb 03, 2011
@geman,

Please be informed that the 15pin port on your laptop is VGA output port i.e 'monitor out'. You can use it to send video signal to a projector, TV and so on.

The 9 pin is your serial port usually used for sending communication signal to and from the PC. You can use it with a table phone, sat receiver and so on. Recent laptops are no longer equipped with the serial port but with usb ports that serve multiple communication purposes as long as you can get the required cable configuration.

Save yourself the trouble of playing with joining wires, listen to Lov4sat and go straight to any computer market to buy a serial to usb cable. It is the same cable that was being used in those days of dial up internet for connecting Intercelular, Multilinks, Starcomms, and other table (box ) phones to PCs. They come in several shapes and sizes.
Satellite TV TechnologyMicrobox 2 Dongle And Nss7 22w by owokasib(op): 4:58am On Jan 02, 2011
Happy New Year to all.

Please is Microbox2 Dongle available in the local market? and how much? I hear it opens channels like SS3 Africa, Canal+ sport, Eurosport and others on NSS7 22W(C band).

By the way, I had read posts about NSS7 in the past (probably) on this forum and been trying to review the sat but you will agree with me that there is no easy way of locating sub-treads like that here.

Could somebody, please refer me to the appropriate tread? I have tried to search 'Official Thread Of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 5 - The Final Part).

Regards and have a fulfilled year.
Satellite TV TechnologyNairaland Satellite Tv Technology: Need To Be (new) User Friendly by owokasib(op): 3:27am On Dec 23, 2010
I have continued to read with utmost disgust the way Sat. TV Tech. Nairalanders insult each other, especially new members or innocent newbies who are asking questions that exhibits their ignorance and naiveity. The issue of a member asking for the meaning of 'shoelace' on the 2 In 1 LNB setup board comes to mind. One member 'jumped' on board to insult and compound his woes while commendably, the other humbly enlightened and directed him.

I have at several times needed to get info on some issues and had to use the search engine on the forum but was disappointed as it did not limit me to the forum rather it went googling. The ability to find your way around the forum without fumbling and getting exposed to the 'mouthy' members of the forum is highly determined by your computer literacy or web savvy.

I would hereby humbly therefore suggest that the forum be structured such that when a member gets to the index page of the SATELLITE TV TECHNOLOGY you could have a glance of issues concerning everything available. What is available at https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/board-58.0.html IS OKAY FOR ME but may be inadequate for a new user who may particularly not be a novice. I consciously appreciate the good work that most of our members are putting into the forum notwithstanding the constraints posed by our economy and the environment but there is the need to have semblance of the search engine and 'index page' of boards like Sat-universe (http://www.sat-universe.com/index.php) and others, even though I am pro 9JA.

It is my considered opinion that members whose conduct on the forum are disrespectful or undesirable should be so advised accordingly.

Please note that my comments are entirely devoted to improving the forum and getting us to be better bloggers.

Regards to all and have a pleasant holiday season.

@Ameboperoo
I believe you are using a laptop. most laptop these days does not come equipped with the 9pin serial port. you can buy a USB to Serial cable and connect it to your (9pin to 9pin). That is what I am using as per the attached. I hope this is helpful.

Ameboperoo:
@all. I intend buying this cable for s/w transfer but I discovered it has 9 pins but the socket on my pc has 15 pins. Is there any special hardware I have to connect to my pc?

Satellite TV TechnologyStrong Decoder Srt4663x And Dstv W4/w7 Upgrade by owokasib(op): 8:43pm On Dec 10, 2010
To all Gurus in the House,

My friend uses a Strong SRT4663X decoder with the 1.14p patch. The pictures were recently scrambled and DSTV indicated that they have upgraded to W4/W7 and that my friend should go and buy DSTV decoder, which I consider a marketing gimmick. Please could you confirm if patch SRT4661X_4664X_MyTV_158p_20101129.zip will have the W4/W7 satellite or at least restore signal?

Please respond urgently.

Good Life, 707.
You are good for the tech expo. well done!
I have 3 dishes. I used one for w4/w7@36, another for astra2a2b2d@28.2E and the 3rd one for W3A.
Could u please advise how I can combine these?
By the way, which channels are u getting with the combination?

Carry on the good work.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Strong Receivers Thread by owokasib: 10:57pm On Aug 14, 2010
@2legit

You only need to connect your Receiver to power and not necessarily anything else (LNB or TV) except the cross cable.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Strong Receivers Thread by owokasib: 10:46pm On Aug 14, 2010
@2legit

Read this completely before proceeding

Boot your PC
Connect your Receiver to power source
Connect cable to both PC and Receiver
Run SRTxxxx.exe from your PC, click the browse tab on the program and select SRTxxxx.stb
Click the connect tab on the program
Turn your Receiver on
Your PC will connect to the Receiver and start the upgrade from 1% on both PC and Receiver
When your Receiver returns to 0000, the upgrade is finished.

Please note that you will not loose your configuration or set channels as a result of the upgrade.

@Twins

Thank you.

I used the cross cable and my PC to restore the receiver back to S/W Version 1.07 (Nov. 27, 2009) but I desire to have the good 1.09. Hope you'll send it to me on owokasib@hotmail.com.

Regards.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Strong Receivers Thread by owokasib: 12:38pm On Aug 11, 2010
I really don't get what you are trying to tell me. The issue is that the receiver is attempting to boot and then restart the boot process again and on and on without anything displaying on the screen. You may say what you are trying to say in clear terms please.

A process to revert the error and make the receiver system boot normally is desirable.

Thanks.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Strong Receivers Thread by owokasib: 7:45am On Aug 11, 2010
Mr 2legit2qt, Consequent upon updating my receiver with the update you sent me, my receiver have stopped booting. This na from frying pan to fire. After all, I was able to manage the discoloration, now there is nothing to see.

Abeg make u helep me ooooo.

I don't really like going to technicians except it is the last resort.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Strong Receivers Thread by owokasib: 12:15am On Aug 09, 2010
My SRT4669X came installed with the MyTv boot up logo which I succeeded in removing from my old SRT box with strong's update. I therefore downloaded the latest update from Strong website and soon realised that it has thesame MyTv theme. I resorted to using the update 'SRT4669ME_7111_ALL_109p_20100702'. It served my purpose but resulted in a discoloration of the receiver's video output. An attempt to revert to the update from the Strong's website 'failed'. By the way, I do not have the RS 232 cable. Please advice.
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Required: Software For Usb Dvb-s Box by owokasib(op): 10:17pm On Aug 06, 2010
Thanks. I had downloaded BlazeDTV along with WatchTvPro. Unfortunately, they do not support my DVB's device driver. The driver loaded for my device in the Device Manager is 'Advanced USB2.0 DVB-S TV Box'. Blaze and WatchTVPro supports other BDA compatible drivers like LME BDA DVBS-LG driver which Lightwave claimed supports my device. Whenever I load the device with this driver, channel scans returns a nil channel found. ProgDVB on the other hand supports the Advanced, driver although the software freezes on normal complete channel scan. So, I usually input Freq, polarity and syb. into the blind scan and it worked fine be4 it expired. If you have a BDA compatible driver you can send me, I will try it out. Regards.
Satellite TV TechnologyRequired: Software For Usb Dvb-s Box by owokasib(op): 10:34am On Aug 06, 2010
I have a USB DVB-S MPEG2 Box (LW-UDVS-S). I was able to receive Multi Tv and Infinity (MPEG 4 broadcast) with it when I installed a trial version of ProgDVB Pro.  The trial is expired now and I am left with the Standard version that came with my box which, of course does not support MPEG4. The website of the 'manufacturer' (LIGHTWAVE) is irresponsive.  I need some advice and help.
